  • The Old Timer 162OT Boot Knife is a single edge boot knife with a very traditional style that would be right at home in a John Wayne movie. Let's see if it is balanced.

    Cool knife Bryan! I was happily surprised to see that the 162OT has a flat grind :) I´d love see them put that on more knives. Awesome! If the grind is even close to SCHF55 or 42D it surely is a sweet knife for carving and whittling too. And seems to work great for striking ferro rod. I have never had a boot knife but that one has lots of potential. Does great with the traditional knife stuff too. And seems well balanced :) As always big thumbs up!

    From what I can find, the first materials that we would probably recognize as types of 'plastic' were invented in the 1850s-1860s. The well known early plastic Bakelite (which was at one time used for handgun grips, etc. unless I am mistaken) was apparently invented by a guy named Leo Baekeland in 1909. The mid 1800s to the early 1900s is usually considered to be the time period of the 'Old West' or 'Cowboy Days'. So it is possible that some cowboy might have carried a boot knife with plastic handles. I just thought you might find that interesting.

    That knife is sweet, although I think the sheath could be better for actually fixing it to a boot. Maybe have a custom Kydex sheath made for it with a Velcro band or something like that.

    It seems Amazon thinks all of NY State is actually NYC. In the city they are considered a dagger and illegal even though they are single edge, in the rest of the state they are not, unfortunately its getting more common for companies to assume NYC and its draconian laws are the only ones that matters. I.e. non wristbrace slingshot are legal in most of the state, but because they aren't in the city its getting harder to get them shipped upstate, airguns are perfectly legal upstate but again since they aren't in the city and some companies won't ship, side note to the stupidity Crosman is located in N.Y.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They probably just don;t want to fool with the hassle of sorting all that out. It is a shame that the good citizens of NY are being held hostage by the overwhelming voter numbers in the city.

    I like the looks of this knife, but I would remove the screwed on plastic handle scales and replace them with riveted wood or micarta. Never have liked the hollow plastic they now use, or the little caps they use to cover the screws. I do like flat ground blades, so that's a win for me. The overall effect reminds me of the Kephart knife, neat looking!

    First time viewer. That thing broke because "Schrade" is no longer USA made. Taylor Brand LLC bought the Schrade name after Schrade USA closed its doors in 2004. Taylor moved its production to China and started making cheap knockoffs. Since then many changes have been made sacrificing quality.
    To name just few changes - all "Old Timer" knives no longer have the Delrin handles that were advertised as unbreakable back then. They had real pins (no pop-off covers) and the "Old Timer" logo that flew off along with the cover were attached better too. Personally, I prefer the old Schrade USA forged 1095 high carbon steel as well.

  • @brucemorton13
    @brucemorton13 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    "...flag on the moon", brilliant. ;-) I believe (and don't quote me on this) that the reason that "style" of knife can't be shipped to California, where I was raised and lived for 50 years, is that the blade shape is considered a "dagger", despite it not having a dual edge. I believe (again, not certain) that these regulations were promulgated during the times gangs were using edged weapons rather than fully automatic fire arms ("West Side Story"). A dagger was probably considered a more stealthy weapon. Thus, the regulations were enacted in areas where population centers fostered gang activity. But, I could be full of beans; so I'm open to learning from someone who really knows. And, Bryan, get a friend who is a metal detectorist to come over and recover your missing bits for you.
