  • @fullyelectric
    @fullyelectric 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Kyle .. this is awesome 👍 .. my daughter really likes the ID4 we plan to get her the AWD version when it’s available!
    The charging speeds from 0-80% in 40min is very good .. 10-80% in like 36min 👍 truly nice speeds not eTron quick but very good! however 80-100% +26min still a bit slow but should not make any difference when road tripping since you only need to charge up to 60-70% is most cases anyways ..
    As for the Mach E .. when on road trips you also don’t need to charge above 70% in most cases as well, so the very poor speeds above 80% right now would not impact overall trip time, still Ford should improve that just incase getting to the next fast charger you need like 90-95% .. but overall 0-60 or 70% is good speeds for both the ID4 and Mach E..
    the Audi eTron’s are the best to 80-100% even at 150kW Audi eTron is quicker to 80% than my model 3 on v3 SC .. that’s how amazing the eTron charging curve is over everyone else for now!

    • @fullyelectric
      @fullyelectric 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BTW if anyone is wondering the Mach E charging curve .. 0 to 80% in like 50min .. and 10 to 80% in 42min .. slower than the ID4 by 6-10min but not too far off .. however OTA update coming to improve the Mach E curve .. still speeds to 80% is ok ..

    • @TecnamTwin
      @TecnamTwin ปีที่แล้ว

      That's because the battery has huge buffers on each end and the eTron is very inefficient. It also has much less range so that fast charging is still getting less miles per hour of charging than your Tesla. 80% in an eTron is ~150 miles real world vs ~250 miles in a Model 3 LR.

    Hey Kyle, Big fan of the channels since the drift mode videos :) Some really great information, looks like roadtripping on this will be a piece of cake. I just have some questions..
    Does the iD.4 pre-condition whilst plugged in, or is it always on battery power?
    Please can you tell me about the home charging / scheduled charging options?
    I'm keen on getting an iD.3 (assuming it's the same as what you find on the iD.4) and I can leave it on a public 7.2kW charger overnight (the on-street chargers in London allow you to be plugged in for up to 11hrs, but the overnight payment is capped at 4hrs). I'm wondering if there's no mains power pre-conditioning on the iD:
    Can I set the charge to start at 2am, so it should be nice and warm by 7am? (passive heating?)
    Can I change that scheduled time on the app as well as in the car?
    Can I change the max SoC in the app?

      Yup, the costs to cover charging stations is just not cost effective for the owners. It's already not that profitable delivering all that fast power at reasonable prices.
      Gas stations are a different animal. They are combined with shops and when pumping gas you're supposed to stand by the pump therefore needing coverage. Also, the sprinkler system is overhead in case of fire at a gas station. With charging, you either sit in car or go somewhere nearby.

    New to EV- so how much did it cost to fill up from 0-100% at 43c/khw via electrify America?

  • @Marco-ce8kr
    @Marco-ce8kr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello, just learning about EVs. What is preconditioning (sorry if this isn't the correct term) the battery means and how to do it. Thanks

    • @kehlerames218
      @kehlerames218 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The precondition is setting the temperature of the battery or cabin. For example, if a Tesla knows you are on route to a charger it preps the temperature of the battery pack for optimum charge rate.

      I totally see your point - VW USA still pays Electrify America for the contract just as any other Automaker does. But in terms of VW global, it's all from one department to another.

    • @johneric98
      @johneric98 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does cost them. Normally, without the free charging, you would be paying EA for charging the battery. So that is lost revenue.

    Hi Kyle!
    I hope you put more emphasis on electric cars efficiency in reference to its battery size and not to focus so much on time electric car charging speed. This seem a better way determining how electric can go farther per mile in battery size. Charging speed seem like hiding how inefficiencient a electric car is. Every can put a big battery then call it a day. You guys are getting focus so much on EPA rating these days.
    1: Effieciency.
    2: Battery size.

    Kyle, thank you for a very informative video! Volkswagen and others have mentioned that an ID.4 owner should charge the vehicle to only about 80% most of the time (only charge to 100% every once in a while). Let's say I have a 40-amp level 2 charger in my garage that I will use to charge the vehicle overnight when necessary. Before I go to bed, is there a way to instruct either the vehicle or the charger to automatically stop charging once the charge has reached 80%, or will it charge all the way to 100% unless I manually stop it?
