I bought my nephew a 1984 Chevy citation for his first car in 2006. I told him he will thank me in 10 years. I said just think of all the child support I just saved you. He looked at me funny..I said no girl will be cought riding in this car let alone having sex in the backseat. I named the car birth control. 😂

Those auction fees are ridiculous. What’s a $49 ‘internet fee’??? $150 car is $500 OTD! They definitely took a lesson from how utilities bill ya. I always say what if you saw a BigMac was $2 on the menu, but after a bun fee, pickle distribution tax, and hot item convenience fee it rang up for $5. Would we accept that?

I remember when i was a freshmen in high school. I remember when these were brand new, i cant believe its been 40 years. Anyway my Science teacher had a dark blue one just like this. I remember thinking it was so modern, the shape, the way the doors closed flush with the roof, etc. It was actually very future looking compared to the boxier designs that everyone else had. It was the beginning of the aerodynamic look for Ford. I regularly see atleast 2 of these still on the road. That baby blue was a color that Ford had on alot of thier vehicles.

You know a car smells bad when you take a sniff and you yell "my eyes, my eyes!"
    Randy: "This car's got power!"
It's got power alright. It's from that powerful smell.
Would you believe that the 1987-1988 Thunderbird/Cougar were completely overhauled except for the roof and front windshield? Seriously. Even the rub strips are different between the 1983 to 1986 cars and the 1987 to 1988 cars (different styles and different heights on the cars). Body panels will physically interchange but the rub strip locations will not. The 1984 to 1992 Mark VII, while based on the same cars, didn't get nearly as revolutionary an external change throughout that car's production run. The interior for the 1987 to 1988 cars remained similar to the 1985 interior overhaul. All three car models were built at Ford's Lorain, Ohio plant.

Get yourself 3 bottle of the Techron high mileage fuel treatment. Fill the tank halfway and use one full can, once the tank reaches close to empty repeat with the other 2 bottles. The Techron should be able to clean the throttle body injector(s) and she'll idle/run better. There are rebuild kits for the Ford/Holley? throttle body injection. High beams would flicker and then it would move to the low beams. Both cars had something getting hot. Nobody had been under the hood of either one. Both had the same 3.8L V6 driveline. Not trying to be one of "Those people", but that was not a square body. The square body Chevy truck ended in like 87. It has rounded edges.... My friend who's very young calls his truck like this a square body.🙄 You and Sleeper Dude are my favorite channels! 😁 Keep up the good work! You are a welcomed entertainer

My first car was an 86 5.0 cougar i bought at a police auction for $110.
It was comon to steao these cars by busting off the ignition lock.
You can replace the steering column with any fox platform, including an 89's mustang.
The trunk relase is in the center console in 83-84, moved to the glove box in 85-88.

I have a 1984 cougar with exactly the same central fuel injection 5.0 engine. This engine is only 140hp. 250 pound feet of torque. There is no trunk release. You gotta use the key. These are a fox chassis. Mine also leaked fuel outta the fuel line. Rear axle is 7.5 size. Alot of mustang hot rod parts fit this car. If you do any modification the first should be subframe connectors. Stiffens the chassis and makes it hold up better in a front or rear end crash.

My oldest borrowed it for homecoming. I told don't wreck my car. He wrecked it. Not his fault but damn. Girl on way to school rear-ended him while she was putting on makeup..
    Miss that car..

This predates the release cables, but Nick might be skinny enough to fit in there. It is easier to have a door key made and that will open the trunk.

I remember when I was Nicks age, I only wanted that nice new vehicle. I had to settle on a 1971 Ford LTD 2 door hardtop with 400 small block and C6 trans. One day I was driving down the road and a guy pulled right out in front of me, the accident caused frame damage and totaled the LTD. I walked away with no cuts or bruises. I would have been severly hurt or maimed if I was in that beautiful new vehicle, especially a fox body Mustang. Nick might hate the car now but he would be devasted if he totaled that fancy fox body Mustang, instead of this Cougar. Nick here is a little secret the girls will like you regardless of what you drive, if they only care about what you drive, then they belong to the streets.

    • @mexicanspec

That's a perfect first car for your son, Nick. From what other commenters are saying, that high idle is due to that vacuum leak. Plug it and see if the idle slows down. Since this car is a fox body platform, Mustang performance parts for 79 through 93 will fit on this car. It'll sound awesome with American Racing shorty headers, Flowmaster H pipe true dual exhaust, and Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers. That's the exhaust set up I have on my 85 Mustang GT
