This was great, looked like an awesome trip! You guys ate like royalty out there- those were some nice looking meals, especially those steaks and broccoli. Fishing looked great too, especially those brookies. That screen tent is sweet too, bummer that it got ripped by the raccoons. Really liked the Raquette river part, such a cool river to paddle. Thanks for sharing!
Great leisurely trip guys! I love that leanto site on Long Lake as well. It doesn't get any of the NPT traffic and that Pine grove is amazing. Those big wheels for the canoes are awesome! I'm going to be heading into Upper Saranac this next weekend thru Indian Carry. You guys carted along some great food! Thanks for the preview to some future adventures of mine! Jeff
Great to see you two back at it! My nephew and I have been watching your videos to prep for our own trip in September. We can't wait to get up to the ADK!
@@ADKAddicts We'd like to establish a base camp on a lake with great fishing (pike & bass) with the option to do day trips/portages to other lakes from the base camp. Do you have a suggestion on an area or lake for a base camp? We'd like to have the base camp on a harder to access lake - for less crowds - if possible. Thanks!
@@davidbuehler8103if you want to do side trips to other bodies of water I’d base on Follensby Clear Pond or Floodwood pond and paddle and portage into surrounding water. Smallmouth fishing is fantastic on Follensby Clear. Brook trout is good on Horseshoe pond. You can go out to Upper Saranac easily too. Fish creek is a beautiful paddle and little square has pike and bass. Lower Saranac and long lake are good lakes but not too many opportunities to paddle and portage into other lakes and the fishing has been spotty this year. Doing a Raquette River trip is nice too. Put in at the Crusher move up river then back. There are pike, bass and walleye. Another option to s base on Middle Saranac then you it can travel into lower Saranac, Weller Pond and Upper Saranac. Hope this helps and good luck.
Awesome trip! Did a little less fishing and a little more exploring. Funny, I go up and think I'm going to fish and then spend like an hour fishing and the rest of the time exploring haha. Just love the area.
We just went slower. We usually try to hurry through portages and paddle fast when traveling but this trip we just slowed it down and spent more time hanging out at the campsite. Thanks for watching.
I always enjoy your videos and this looked like another great trip. You may have mentioned it before but can you share the maker of the screen tarp that you were using? The deer flies are brutal right now and it would be pretty handy to have. Hope to meet you on the water some day!
Preself Bug Room, available for $89 on Amazon. We bought one of these earlier this years on Logan's recommendation. One of the best pieces of gear I have and well worth the price. We set it up with camp chairs or a hammock.
It’s called the Preself lightweight bug screen on Amazon. Just over 2 lbs and works great. We highly recommend it. Thanks for watching. We will highlight more gear starting this fall.
Another great video. Doing Long Lake to Tupper Lake this fall. Looking forward to it. Any recommendations on lures? Will be doing some trolling and casting. Hoping for some pike.
We have had better luck on Long Lake in the summer than the fall but I would troll deep divers up the lake. Camp at the far end of the lake if you spend a night on Long and focus on the shore line in front of the last lean to on the right side of the lake as you head to the river. I had luck last fall off the point just before that shore line starts coming out of the bay. In the river I would use inline spinners and top water baits. We like whopper ploppers and headbanger lures (spitfire or crankyshad). When you get to the pot on the river where there is a high sand bank on a big bend use a drop shot or slip bobber there with a worm or leach. It’s really deep there and you can get walleye. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Amazing trip guys, been looking forward to a video. Looked like another great time with excellent weather (except the last night) I was going to ask how the tarp bug tent worked out, that looked pretty decent when the knats & skeeters are ruthless. I have two questions about your gear, wondering about the large wheel cart Logan uses if you have the name of the company that makes it? The second question,i'm wondering what you all bring for a cooler on such a long trip? I'm assuming a soft sided bag type to avoid the weight of a hard shell cooler? Looks like Jay has ya sold on purogies...lol. Thanks and keep them videos coming. 👍
Hey Randal. Logan’s wheels he made himself out of a jogging type stroller. I recently purchased a set from a company in Canada called Wike. They are on Amazon and really nice. I will show them on a trip this fall or maybe even late summer. Thanks for watching.
Also forgot to mention that the cooler is a Yeti Hopper 30 soft cooler. Thing is amazing. Holds ice for the whole trip and I even ran on over with my car once and it was fine.
We use Railblaza rod holders double rip tied to our thwarts. Medium light rods, 20 lb power pro braid and flouro carbon leaders with Alberto knots. The lb test depends on the fish. Wabblers and worm or streamer for trout. Our fish finders are Garmin striker 4 plus CV with a Scotty transducer mount. Hope this helps of not hit us back. Thanks for watching and good luck.
Great trip. Hey, question….i most likely would be doing just day trips out and around Long Lake and ponds around the area…Wife won’t let me spend the money on a single person canoe. But there are affordable SOT fishing kayaks. Looks like they could fit my needs, since I would not have the gear you carry. Know of anyone who has one or your thoughts?
Hmmm…I can’t imagine a situation where I’d rather have a kayak than a canoe unless it was strictly for fishing and canoe is just so much more versatile as you can do just about anything with it. That said I do not know of anyone selling anything. Facebook has a bunch of really good canoe and kayak selling pages though. Good luck and I’ll keep my ears open.
@@ADKAddicts not looking if you know of someone who is selling, but if you know of someone in the ADK that uses them. Thanks! Enjoy your feed immensely.
@@fathertomoutdoors6579 oh sorry. Our buddy Greg uses a sit on top kayak and a sit on top paddle board but strictly for fishing. For pond hopping they might be a little heavy.
Good to see you guys out and about again. Wife & I were on Follensby and Hole lakes a couple of weeks ago. We are considering doing Raquette river, but (at our age) we're not strong paddlers. Do you consider it feasible to travel a way on the river and then paddle back upstream?
If you start at the Crusher and paddle up and then back down you will have no problems. The closer you get to the falls and then to Long Lake the faster the water moves. Our video where we paddle from top to bottom of the paddler map we paddle all the up the river against the current and it was tough. The best way to do it is take 2 cars but if that’s not possible the current is totally manageable accessing from the Crusher. We did that for our first Raquette River trip. Have a great time.
@@zeus99es we have talked about it a few times in videos but we use 20lb power pro braid main line and then change out fluorocarbon leaders. For pike and bass we use 15lb, brook trout usually 6 lb and when we are in mixed trout waters with lakers and salmon we generally use 10 lb. Thanks for watching.
Next video a short one and coming soon but then a break for the summer heat. We don’t like camping much then. We’ll be back at it hard starting in September. Thanks for watching.
It’s a 1 piece 2 burner folding stove. Once you extend the stove you can cook with just one of the burners or both. A pot, pot and frying pan or a griddle. However you want.
There are 2 portages. The falls carry an about 70% wheelable. The start is not so we carry to the top of the hill then put the wheels on. There are a few obstacles to lift over but not too bad. The other one from Stoney creek to Rt 3 is really not that’s why we take the road and then it is. Thanks for watching.
The paddlers map is the best. The north one I believe is the best. Has the Saranac chain. Long, Tupper, Cranberry lakes, Raquette and Oswegatchie rivers and a bunch more. Mountain Man in Old Forge carries all the paddlers maps for the Adirondacks though. There are several. Thanks for watching.
