With this new analog-digital combination watch, Citizen brings the war to Casio G-Shock. It has sapphire crystal and 200 meters of water resistance. The digital screen is MIP. What's not to love?
Maybe the cost?
Yea, it's retail price puts it in the same realm as G-Shock's Mudmaster, but with fewer features. But maybe that's what you want: basic features.

It is amazing how long you can talk about the watch without actually having it on hand.
Watch out for that price! My Casio PAG240-1CR, Includes altimeter, compass, tides, Moon phase, thermometer, barometer, sunrise/sunset…$175.00 have a nice day!
Si, un orologio di plastica 😅😅😅😅😅😅
I only wear analogue but this is the first ana-digi I have seen in a long time, that looks great.
This is a good looking watch. Competes with the Seiko Arnie as wall. Thanks for the video.
yeah I'mma gonna stick to my Casio Master of G
it is just nice seeing Citizen created this watch. G-shock should consider about their design in the near future, in my opinion.
Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the MAMACOO, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
That Citizen PMLand does not appear to have any shock-resistant properties
This looks so good imo. Totally stopped me in my tracks when I first saw it. I have a few citizen beaters and they've not let me down. When the cost comes down I'll have a serious look.
I do a number of canoe trips to the Canadian north every year and this looks like a great companion. I have a pmd56-2951 that I use hard, chopping wood, pulling in the dock, firing rifles, etc.
I think these promasters are perfect for hard use and look better than a G, IMO.
I’ve 7 Ana-Digi Resin G-Shocks, each costing not more than $80. Not sure if $700 is justified for this Watch !
Yes it is a steep price tag!
Going from gshock resin to steel is a huge bonus though. I feel like a kid wearing a plastic watch, but a steel watch can be worn in more scenarios and feels like a real watch.
@@DeepsGnome well.. I’ve bought a few Edifices recently and I feel the same when I switch from an Edifice to a resin watch 😀
But I don’t feel like wearing Edifices (or any metal/formal/dressy watch) when I’m in casual outfits (which is most of the times) !
It looks a nice watch but I wouldn't purchase it because of the size and cost of it. I am quite happy with my two Casio G-Shock 5610's that I own. They are all I need in a rugged watch having radio control and solar power and 200M water resistance. They fit my small size wrist perfectly.
Video ends at 4:50 yourwelcome
Looks nice
It's killer. I really wonder about the functions if you could release a video about it.
I bought the watch, they sent me the incorrect one, and now I'm waiting for it again.
This gives me to thinking that Casio in the near future will also release an Ana digi watch with an MIP display. I would like to see a Casio lineage with that , and also with an integrated band. I hate pins because they are a point of failure. Let's wait and see....
I don't know man, I recently purchased a Ctizen Navihawk JY8035-04E ana-digi and for all its bells and whistles it didn't have an hourly chime feature. Needless to say I was upset with this, because such a basic feature was missing and its something I need to have since it helps me keep track of time. I don't see that anywhere on the specs for this one either. This alone keeps my new Navihawk inside the middle console of my vehicle, in case I want to swap out my Pro Trek PRW3510Y for any reason.
Citizen will always be higher on price than at a local retailer. But I do love that watch!
I noticed that too!
@@JimKinkade did you also see the same model with a black strap and black dial?
I've got a ton of casio and one Citizen, a radio controlled eco-drive world time with a stainless case and sapphire crystal. It's an amazing watch.
The new Promaster looks great, love the MIP, but at 700 bucks I at least want it to set itself (either radio, Bluetooth or GPS- don't care) and no sensors etc. Love the look and materials but come on, guys, it doesn't do anything. Feel the same about the digital PRX (well, that's also ugly) nice materials but I think high-end quartz should actually do stuff to justify the price. Casio smokes this for half the money.
I fully agree!👍
If it had the radio controlled time synch and a compass it would be killer!
looks like they smashed this one outta the park, love it!!
Love AMZWATCH watch, Such a great looking watch to match with the precisionist movement.
I'm genuinely impressed with how close AMZWATCH were able to replicate every aspect of this very very goofy looking classic watch.
Three things that puzzle me...
1. It has headings on the moveable(?) rehaut, yet it seems to lack compass functionality. What's the point?
2. The left subdial shows 0 - 40, plus a power indicator. Apparently it's a 40 hour chrono. Not 24 or 48: 40. Huh?
3. The lack of a dive or count-down bezel is a bit of a bummer.
1. A lot of watches have a rehaut or a bezel related to a compass and they don't have a compass. But the advertisement for it makes it seems like it might have a compass.
2. The left subdial doesn't seem to be a chronograph dial.
3. This watch isn't a dive watch. Hence why the bezel is absent.
@@traviswalker8933 I guess you're unaware that some people use dive bezels out of the water, or as I mentioned, they have a use count-down bezels. On point 2, read the review on Citizen's site. On point 1, I can't find any evidence for it having a compass, so I guess it's just to help people use the old Boy Scout method of shooting the sun? Again, this watch makes no sense on multiple levels.
@@17cmmittlererminenwerfer81 Some people use dive bezels out of water (me too), but that doesn´t mean, that evry watch must have one, but diver watches.
Th inner compass bezel is useful to use with maps to have a tool for pointing to specific degrees in map and then in the landscape (aligned with north on the map, ie. 35 degrees to a certain hill or big building some miles away).
Finding south/north with this watch indeed requires the good old boyscout method. It works. But a real compass would be better, agreed
Burning questions! I bet $20 that they originally were going to have a compass but scrapped that function somewhere along the line. The citizen Promaster Altichron has compass functionality but no compass rose.
@@17cmmittlererminenwerfer81 not everyone uses dive bezels out of the water. That's why this watch has a countdown timer. I guess you're unaware of that as well.
Great video, I have citizen promaster watches, my favorite is the promaster skyhawk blue angels edition, it's a titanium watch, radio controlled, eco-drive movement, and a rotating slide rule bezel. They also use some anti-shock features. When powerful vibration is detected the movement stops in milliseconds and resume operation after. I was waiting for this citizen, I like the design of the green one with the cordura band. But last week I was looking after and still not available. But unfortunately I saw the GWG-B1000-3AER, the green one, it was on sale for 600 euros and I ordered it and arrived monday this week. So now I have two of them, it is more compact than the older gwg-1000-1a3er. I already updated the software via the app, and the multiband 6 is working fine. If you want functionality, I recommend this one over the citizen, there is even sunrise sunset function, and you can customize the modes, rearrange them or even deactivate the ones you don't need. So in this case bluetooth is useful. But the lume is better on the first generation with the full lumed markers.
@@fuloplehel I remember you saying you were interested in this one. I am too but like you I may opt for the gwgb1000.
@@JimKinkade For me the citizen promaster is not excluded from the list, but it's not available.
Initially I liked the new mudmaster with the red band, but when I saw the green one I changed my mind. But here in the mountains the green one is preferred. Also the legibility is the best on this model even the lcd display having a green tint. And this is the only version right now where the carbon reinforced parts on the bezel matches the color with the green band. It's a great watch.
Nikola Tesla would be proud of the shown Analog numbers on watch face
How dose it do world time if it doesn't get a radio signal?
It looks a lovely watch and the specs are good to.
I've tried loads of outdoor watches and none have ever come close to my Casio PRW-3500 but for looks and spec this Citizen does look extremely tempting.
I do own one of the cheaper Citizen chronograph's (CA0645-15H) and it is a superb watch.
I may wait a while for the offers that will no doubt start after a few months as the price does seem a little steep at the moment.
Great video's as always Jim - keep them coming.
@@mortimerwatt1766 yes! I have a prw3500 too! That’s a great watch.
I like it, I want one. But the real question is are you gonna "accidentally" get diesel and brakleen on it?
That's an accident I guarantee!
I’ve 7 Ana-Digi G-Shocks, each costing not more than $80. Not sure if $700 is justified for this Watch !
It looks beautiful!! It’s on my radar! I wish the bezel was not bland😅 Also, it’s missing a promaster logo on the pusher!
It's hard to see in the photos but I think the bezel has knurling around the edges but it doesn't do anything I don't think.
@@JimKinkade Cool! Also, I found out that there is a logo on the solo pusher!
Oh hell yes.
I'm 6'3" tall, and G-Shock have the watch cases, that look properly sized on me.
This one might work on you too!
At this price point, one could just get a Garmin Instinct (which is way more capable than any Citizen & G-Shock for that matter) & keep the change in pocket.
But the full functionality requires smart phone connection and internet. Watches like this do what they do on their own.
@@JimKinkade You're absolutely right about Instinct requiring phone & mobile connection for it fullest potential. But w/o Bluetooth it can still do what a G-Shock/Citizen can do (e.g. baro, compass, map & navigation etc.) The solar version of it can barely needs connecting to charger if you live in a sunny place.
Having said it, it's all comes down to personal preference. The Promaster Land looks super cool & I'll say it's one of the best if not the best looking ana-digi in the market now. Enjoy it in good health (and thanks for taking your time to reply to my comment).
it is at my local jeweler for 595.00
Crazy how Citizen jacks up their retail price to immediately offer a discount.
On the German Website it says it has radio control time setting for EU JP US and China.
Ok, that's weird! I downloaded the instruction manual from Citizen US website and there's absolutely no mention of "radio control."
How it know world times?
We only know for sure if Citizen says something about it or if someone buys it and reviews it. I'm not planning to do it. I bought recently a Garmin Fenix 7x Pro because of the features it has.The Citizen looks good though.
Ya, they look cool but I would choose Garmin Instinct
Really wished I had a bigger wrist 😂 so I could wear this Promaster Land &/or Aqualand
For the money you don’t get many features. For about $100-$ 150 you can get a g-shock with more functionality. It looks OK, nothing to write home about.
We need to dive into what features are offered here. Because a big problem I've been highlighting is that the newer G-shocks have pathetic timers. So the Promaster may be better in terms of basic watch functions.
@@JimKinkade I don't see a use case for its (apparently) 40 hour timer. Or maybe I'm failing to understand it.
@@17cmmittlererminenwerfer81it's not a timer, it's a solar power reserve indicator
the mip screen looks like an after thought ..
You can’t help looking at the mud master, and smiling a big over built watch, that is 100% out of place practically everywhere you go, vs the land master that .. just looks awesome but predictable, I for 1 is angling slightly towards the mud master , but damn the citizen is a beautiful watch that has me drooling.
Yea, this one looks tough. But is it? We’re gonna find out. I bought it.
@@JimKinkadeWell is it tough?
From my understanding, it has no timer and no back light.
I want it so much. But if it is true, i think i will pass on this one.
Wait for my to try it out. I think the MIP has a backlight and the lume on the hands is good.
Beautiful watch but for this price I prefer a Gshock MTG. Thanks for the video
While Citizen appears to be encroaching on Casio's market, particularly in the rugged G-Shock segment, I believe Casio's real competition today comes from brands like Garmin and Apple. Casio once led the adventure watch space with features such as barometric pressure sensors and compasses, but their advanced G-Shocks and Pro Treks now pale in comparison to the capabilities of modern smartwatches from Garmin, Apple, and Amazfit. Casio needn’t be overly concerned with Citizen; their focus should be on catching up with Garmin's innovative edge.
But if there's a backlash against the always connected smart watch trend Casio could remain undisputed leader in the standalone watch category if it bolstered its basic watch portfolio.
@@JimKinkade
While it's an interesting point, I find it unlikely that Casio could maintain its position as a leader, even if there's a shift away from always-connected smartwatches. Casio doesn’t lead when it comes to key technologies like sensors or GPS, both of which are essential for fitness and adventure watches even without relying on constant connectivity.
Their lag isn't just about connectivity; Casio falls behind in multiple areas, including battery life innovations, accurate health tracking, and robust integrations-key features that brands like Garmin, and Amazfit excel at. Keep in mind you could still have connectivity to a box/computer without internet connectivity, you could be the master of all your own data within your own network.
Relying on the hope that technology might regress or that there will be a significant backlash against smartwatches is not a solid strategy. The market is moving forward, and Casio risks being left behind if they don't innovate in these critical areas.
"yes cap" haha
You can get an all steel ani dig gshock in the Casio G-Shock Full Metal GM-B2100 models. It will be composite inside cushioning the mvmt But its an all steel watch with screw down case back. The GM2100 models are akin to alliexpress part skin metal covers. The al metal versions are almost three times the price though so YIKES,
For the prices the are charging for those watches I think Id rather save up for an all metal MTG like the G-Shock MTG-B3000D-1A. Thats actually my current plan....well that or a Protrek Manaslu. The PROTREK PRX-8001YT-7JF will be mine someday. Even if I got to buy a slightly USD one on ebay. 😂😂🤞🤞
I've seen pics of that PRX-8001 and yes, that's a good looking watch.
I'm not sure why you keep comparing this to a gshock when you should be comparing it the the protrek watch you are wearing
It stemmed from a discussion about the g-Shock mudmaster we had last year.
Its nice but I can get a metal G shock MTG at that price. Or a Mudmaster GWG for less. Its nice but maybe a little too expensive considering I can get a titanium protrek for much less too. Also if its got the bloody citizen quirkiness that makes me hate using most of the complex quartz watches I'm out.
This looks like a non japanese release to because they are still selling the fantastic japanses Promaster Land AT6080-53L which is a simpler titanium watch that looks much nice then this IMO.
Its going on my list though. If I find it on a food sale I'll pick one up. Come on jomashop dady needs a Christmas sale!😂😂
I think we'll be able to find it for less somewhere soon.
At that price it should have the ABC function.
It really should!
FYI I did some digging and found the metal bracelet version comes with a strap too. Model number JV1008-63E. Its on the Canadian website I don't know about the American one.
It just appeared on the US website TODAY!
My GPR B-1000 also have gps time keeping. 🤷 The new GPR-H1000 rangeman sadly dont. But it also is like half price. Of the previous version.
I also just got the new mudmaster GWG B-1000 that has band 6 time keeping.
And none of my G-shocks NEEDS to be connected to a phone 🤷
But.. everything going to hell out the door situation "worst case" i'll grab the GWG B-1000 or the GPR B-1000.
As both will basically keep going for ever. And can keep me on track.
But again. Its what you need.. now I have my G-shocks because I think they are nice watches. And I want a rough watch. If I end up smaching it into a wall.. I wanna feel secure that its that wall that breaks and not my watch.
But the G-shock have a lot more functions.. if you need them. And with that in mind. The 100$ different. Compared makes the citizen more expensive
#1 It is fugly. #2 won't touch G-Shock
I was interested until you've mentioned the price. For that money, I'd rather buy 3 different G-shocks... and a Casio. LOL
I bet it's totally huge, so I'll stick to my square Gs
now that Citizen watch at the beginning is a really ugly watch!
It's actually comfy!
Promasters are way better watches then G shocks..
Citizen AND Casio need to knock it off with the old-timey Buick hubcap case diameters. Otherwise, much as I like Casio, Citizen doesn’t design watches that look like they were dreamed up by grade school boys on a Pixie stick sugar high..
You destroy this watch😂 bought one more 9500
Yes! I want the Mudman with the metal bezel!
Costs 6-7 times as much as Casio watches with better specs. Nice watch but not for $700!
Would you buy it for $450?
ouch price too high no thanks
It's a guy ready stuff from a website... yeah I'll wait for an actual review
Stay tuned!
Just show me the watch......not your thought process in finding the watch on a website.
Ok. Stay tuned.
nice specs but just get a Casio they are way better than this
Excellent video! I cannot explain why but if I have to wear a quartz watch 🤮 it is always a G-Shock. Mudmaster over the Citizen.
Can't compete with cheap 5610 G-shock as they don't have a radio control timekeeper. so it's a NO from me.
It’s a surprise it doesn’t have radio controlled time synch when other citizens do.
@@JimKinkade That's right, I would of considered it if it had radio control. Shame really.
Why would I want to look at you talking into a handheld mic in a poorly lit corner of a hot room? Otherwise I only see promotional material. This is not a hands-on review and apodcast-style format is not conducive to that kind of endeavor. Needs a lot to work because it's a tangled, unattractive mess. I got sleepy after 20 seconds. No insult intended but if you want to compete with other reviewers you haver to do a lot better even if it takes a lot of effort.
Correct, it’s not a hands-on review nor was it advertised as such. I’m not competing against anyone. In fact I mention three other reviewers who are certain to do a tabletop review of this watch. It’s a poorly lit tangled mess because I made the video from an oilfield mancamp after working my shift with barely any pre production. Guys tune in to my channel for the ongoing discussion we have in the comments and to get my real life experience from the watches I do actually own.
@@JimKinkade Fair enough but not my cup of tea. Good luck.
@@chronocommander007 there’s more hands on with watches on my TH-cam shorts. Check them out. You may like them better. This is my attempt at a podcast. It needs more work I know.

looks better than my snj025
Citizen Promaster is taking on Seiko too!
I don't know if I should thank you or not. 🙂 This watch has everything I'd like and none of the stuff I don't care for. ... But, I wasn't looking to buy any more watches.
FYI - Today, I was looking online at prices and decided - "No, I won't buy it. I'll wait". I was proud of myself. ... Well, I just saw an ad from Bloomingdale's with the green one (JV1005-02W) for $562.50 with 15% off (by typing-in an email address), which brought the total to $478.13 (plus tax). I ordered it. We'll see how it looks in person. It is returnable.
(Also, eBay has the green one for $530; and the blue w/steel bracelet for $550.)
@@garageshop6021 That’s a MUCH better price! Good find! Let us know what you think when you get it.
@@JimKinkade Okay, I will.
@@JimKinkadeI received the watch. My comments about the watch are not showing up here for some reason.
Bottom line, I like it.
@@garageshop6021One more try - edited down.
FYI - I received the green JV1005-02W yesterday.
The finish is nice. The lume is good. The size is fine for my 17cm wrist. I like this watch because it has the looks and features I wanted (including not having Bluetooth or radio time setting that I don't need). However, I can see where people could prefer a Casio ProTrek PRG-600 or PRG-650, or something similar; particularly, at a lower price.
There are just two things I don't like:
(1) The backlight on the MIP screen is not the best. I thought/hoped would be like the blue backlight on the G-Shock GBD-200's MIP screen. And,
(2) The strap. Although it's built very sturdy, the color isn't the best match for the dial color. (Fortunately, a green ribbed nylon one-piece band I have matches the dial perfectly. The watch also looks great with a black ribbed nylon, or silicone or rubber, band.)
yuck
💩😬👍
I have a real SUB but I also bought one of these replicas from MAMACOO for piece of mind if I go to another country or if I am doing activities that can damage the watch. I don't see anything wrong with that.
