Thanks for doing this review. It's a nice watch, appealing on many levels. One major zonk is the lack of a synch (radio, GPS or BT). At this price, there's no excuse for omitting that. And there are two functional aspects that really puzzle me: the 40 hour chrono and a compass bezel without a compass: what's the point - to help me do the old Boy Scout compass guesstimate hack?
In 2016, I bought a similar Citizen Eco Drive. It has been everything that a good watch should be: affordable, durable, reliable, attractive, and I have not had to wind or charge it, even once! Great value.
Fantastic review! You’ve captured every detail about the Citizen Promaster JV1007-07E perfectly. I love how you explained the new features and provided practical tips on where to find the best deal. Your enthusiasm and thorough analysis make this video incredibly engaging. Thanks for sharing such a comprehensive review-I’m sold on this watch now
I like this one. Thanks for your great reviews! Only problem is you tend to make me want to spend money I don’t have! Lol! This seems like a great all around everyday watch. I will definitely be looking at it again. Thanks again. Best wishes to you and your family. ✌️🇺🇸
That's a QR code. You can scan it with your phone and it should send you to a link. Provided you downloaded a QR reader app. What is your wrist size? I remember you can't wear G-Shock squares. Like me with my 8 inch wrist size. Usually on the last hole, but I have a bunch of 16mm to 22 mm hard plastic adapters. They have drilled lugs so strap changes are easy breezy.
I love the looks and materials and the MIP display but at $695 in the ani-digi watch sector (aka people who aren't buying a smartwatch or an entry-level mechanical like a Hamilton, people who actually want a quality tool watch) - the lack of radio control or Bluetooth sync and the lack of any sensors is crazy. Compare to the casio GWG-1000 for the same price.
Thanks for doing this tabletop - I saw your comment on one of their Japanese announcement promo videos and was hoping you'd be able to get your hands on one for review. *FINALLY* we're seeing ultra-conservative Citizen do something to carve out a niche with newer tech combined with a backbone of mature technologies (Eco-Drive, conventional gear driven analog movement, etc) - I'm super excited to see what Citizen do with this stellar MIP display and this new movement (module) system. I feel like the UX is outstanding for such a tiny display and simple control interface. The QR code integration and display resolution surprised me! Much more capable than I originally anticipated, and apparently they have power draw under control to keep such a high power reserve. Without Multiband 6 and/or GPS or any sensor functionality and no titanium option at this price point I'm likely going to skip these models unless I find an un-refusable deal, but still.
yeah im waiting for a nice sale. it looks terrific but no way in hell is it worth more then my titanium protreks. i kind of wish they released this with a titanium option honestly.
I'd put it on a maybe list, but the lack of radio control on a Citizen at this price is unforgivable. 🤔 The compass bezel is absolutely bizarre in the absence of a compass. 🤔 The MIP is nice though.
Great review. I've been keen on this watch for a couple of months now. Your review has tempered the urge to pull the trigger on one until they get cheaper. There are a couple of international sellers (I'm in Australia) that have pretty good specials on them at the moment. The cheapest I've found is based in Spain. As for the watch itself. I am a little disappointed that the pushers and crown aren't screwdown. I don't like when designers do this kind of thing. I'm disappointed in the backlight too. They really phoned that one in. Compare that pitifiul little pool of drab orange light to the Casio Illuminator on the AW158. That is a perfectly even blue glow across the whole LCD. Blue also would have suited this watch better than the orange. Maybe they thought it would get lost amongst the blue green lume though. The size of the watch is really at the uppermost limit of what I can wear on my wrist. I normally limit myself to a lug-lug of about 46-48mm. From memory, this model is on the smaller side of the usual Promaster lineup that I've looked at, but I think they could have made it a bit smaller to suit a wider market. I still think I'll get one as I like the overall functionality and, on the face of it, the look of the watch is great (just a shame about the non-functional screw-downs) but thanks to your review I'll definitely be holding off until they're a bit cheaper.
Wow that MIP display is awesome. Maybe Casio will get off their ass and start offering it on protreks and other solar watches now. I've had it on a couple gshocks but since they weren't solar they didn't last in my collection....is it a power issue or cost that they don't offer it on anything but their smart featured watches?
Agreed completely - Casio need to get moving on integrating MIP into their high end Master of G ani-digi models. Since the Gulfmaster range has been defunct for some years, it would be great to see a new model with MIP and other cool upgrades - maybe a return to "Rust Resist" titanium caseback and hardware? One can dream.
Citizen punches way above their price point. I'm a Citizen fanboy...love the eco drive. Accurate and comfortable watches. Their promaster diver to me, is the ultimate diver with the adjustable bracelet. Some people like Glocks. I can't stand Glocks. To each his own.
Very nice watch. But in compare to my Casio gwg b1000: no abc sensors, no hands dial backlight, no time sync via Bluetooth or gps, just one motor for both hands. The same stupid limit for timer (99/60 min)(why???).
Hi, today i received my new Citizen watch, but unfortunately it came in the standard citizen black carton box, may i ask you from where you get your nice plastic promaster box, please ?
Thank you for the vid! Could you please do another one showing how the functions work and with a lume shot? Is stopwatch only using hands (chrono style i.e. not usable in real world) or also 'normal' i.e. digi display? What is the max countdown timer - 60 min like newer mudmasters? Do you get any accidental presses with the main crown? (It seems to be sticking out quite a bit) Thanks in advance!
I like the look!! But I will save my money for up coming G Shock Oak! Casio will announce a metal bracelet, Full analog display Royal Oak style G shock in Oct~Nov!!
Very nice looking watch, I like the green version with the cordura band. But considering that there is no atomic time or Bluetooth, or atleast a compass, it's a promaster land after all, it is expensive. So I bought the GWG-B1000-3AER green mudmaster, it was on sale for 550 euros, and is packed with all the sensors and functions, atomic time and Bluetooth. I have an older citizen promaster skyhawk blue angels edition which is better than this, except for the MIP display. Maybe next year will be cheaper.
Thanks for the review. Saw one show up on Reddit post. Does the watch have Atomic time sync and is there a way to move the hands so you can read the LED display?
How does the Compass function work, besides just being able to turn the Compass Bezel around and around? Does it actually work as a Compass, or is it just a gimmick ?
If you want this watch at a more reasonable price than the retail asking price, ebay is your friend, that said it's from overseas sellers which can be dodgy especially for something that costs $500+
Nice MIP display: nice to see you can choose 'European' date format (DD/MM/YYYY) 😎 Too bad the timer is only 99 minutes, that's a bit too little (for cooking a stew for instance)
Nice review. FYI - I received the green one (JV1005-02W) yesterday (ordered on 9/6 received on 9/11). I like it. Currently, Bloomingdale's has it for $562.50. Plus, 15% Off (by typing-in an email address). This brought the total to $478 (plus tax; w/free shipping).
Well it's certainly an improvement over the Skyhawk AT menu structure that forces me to look at a TH-cam video before I change anything. Completely non intuitive interface. I just purchased a cheap $29 dollar watch from Casio, AW80-1AV, due tomorrow with a nice readable day/date readout. If it doesn't work out, I can just toss or give away. I don't see how they can make any watch for that price so I don't expect much. I went this direction because my Skyhawk loses the year and gets the calendar out of sync. So Citizen is on my shit list right now! Crap....I just rest the year again! Although truthfully......I like the Citizen Promaster quite a bit.
The bracelet jdm model looks fantastic. i just wish i knew how heavy it was. I dumped my Sbowbirds edition Skyhawk cause it was just too heavy. So I prefer watches uner 150 grams and I wear a watch 24/7 due to medical reasons...and choice. 😂😂 So I need something I can comfortably wear for a whole week without taking it off if I have too.
JV1006-51L is 195gr, JV1008-63E is 212gr, JV1005-02W is 112gr and JV1007-07E is 114gr. For the exact same reasons, if we speak about 24/7, for me the limit is 100gr
I wouldn't be able to afford this even on sale😂, but at least I can enjoy the watch through your Channel.. Ty😎✌️ PS.. It's A QR code... Scan it with you phone camera... most QR codes are links to certain web pages.
Citizen makes some truly hideous watches, but this one is relatively decent. Roughly 90% of their lineup is truly clunky & downright unsightly, but this & the Promaster Tough seem to be exceptions with cleaner execution. 👍🏻
I’m confused. Never in my life have I needed anything other than my eyes to tell me how light it is. Perhaps only maybe useful for an extremely amateur photographer, but even that’s a stretch.
ok what is it with citizen and their weakass backlights? That looks like the same shity after thought one that came on my Skyhawk. I'm sure that was fine 10-15 years ago but compare it to the white light or black light LEDs on my by far cheaper high end anidig protreks and gshcks it feels like a joke.
Extremely low power draw, and further towards the red spectrum + low brightness maintains your night vision much better than brighter white-light LEDs. It's a design tradeoff, but I've never had an issue reading a Skyhawk display with that LED - the bigger problem is the light being locked out in a key mode like the chronograph.

Impressive!! 👍
Best Looking ana-digi I've seen since the seiko Prospex Arnie. 44mm Dmtr & 50mm lug to lug is probably a bit too big for my skinny wrist. Shame.
I frickin' love that watch! I'm getting myself this one for Christmas.
Sold.. Think I'll pick one up as a holiday treat. Always room for Citizen next to the Seiko watches in my collection.
In 2016, I bought a similar Citizen Eco Drive. It has been everything that a good watch should be: affordable, durable, reliable, attractive, and I have not had to wind or charge it, even once! Great value.
Just got the Limited Edition one. Unbelievable quality. Comes with both stainless steel bracelet and camo strap. Looks and feels like a million bucks!
Totally agree with you ,better than gwg 1000

I would absolutely get this asap if not for the price! Fantastic tool.

Love the knurling on the buttons but to find out its just for show is a complete bummer
wow, a pretty cool watch, wish it was multiband too
Me too!
given the price im a little disappointed they didnt.
Just got mine from Spain, $500😎 blue dial on a bracelet 👍
Price is steep but this is so sweet.
Puts Breitling ana-digi to shame.

Yeah the lack of atomic at this price point blows my mind as well.
you can use any analog watch as a basic compass using the sun an the analog hands. the rotating bezel helps with that.
@@edmonguy Compass bezel is functional in conjunction with the analogue hands, just like a dive watch can be used to get a decent read on position.
Does the stopwatch show 100s, 10s, or only the second like the G-Shock GBD200?
