Update 6th Jan'23 - The "jolly old folks" at the Economist seem to have realized their "mistake" and have now replaced that visual of the Bangladesh train with an Indian local train. Looks like this discussion has had an effect.
The train at 1:52 is in Bangladesh. Its Bangla written at the back. You don't see trains like that in India with people sitting on the top. There was a time till the mid 80s when a some did but no one does now. One reason is because the system has been constantly improving and the other of course is because most train lines now are electrified.
True. 85% of Indian Railways is now electrified, up from 38% in 2014. And it will rise to 100% by April next year at the current pace, as planned. But you can bet your top Rupee, these foreign media houses will continue to show the "Indians riding on top of trains" stereotype throughout the decade. Even when India enters the "upper middle income economy" status post 2027.
They will continue to do this while running their own trains on fossil fuels.

Lol fashion industry. Since late 2022 I’ve been looking into 2nd hand stores to trade used clothes and even thrift stores. TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Nordstrom Rack has become too expensive for me with inflation but interestingly a thrifter told me thrift shops have become expensive too in comparison to previous years 😂

Almost of trains are electrified in india, so the clip shown isn't possible to happen here at all & It's also extremely rare like almost impossible to see any trains that packed here as shown in footage..
In that footage as well, no one is on top of the trains. Btw, how are you sure it's Bangladesh ? It can very much from India although it does look like an older footage and the ET has chosen the some of the worst footages of the Indian population in this video. They could have shown different sides.

For the third section, "Japan's Markets Mayhem?", Since Japan is the fourth largest exporter in the world, the yen falling against the dollar is a positive development for Japan; Japanese exports are cheaper for the foreign markets and they would get more dollars (US dollar is the exchange currency). Conversely, as explained at 9:42, imports would be more expensive, but how would that push up inflation if you have more dollars coming in from the exports? I think there's a missing explanation there.

It's called "imported inflation", as dollar becomes more expensive relative to yen, all the imoprted goods in USD become also realtively more expensive, which causes regular consumers spend more of their disposable income to buy goods&services denominated in USD. It might cause inflation since no country, including Japan, is able to produce all the goods within the country and customers have nothing to do but to buy goods rising in prices.
When the yen falls against the dollar, it can push up inflation in both Japan and other foreign countries, including the United States. This is because a weaker yen makes Japanese goods more attractive to foreign buyers, including those in the US. As demand for Japanese products increases, their domestic prices tend to rise as well.
As demand for Japanese exports grows in, let’s say, the US due to their comparatively lower cost when converted into dollars, it can drive up domestic prices across a range of products and services. For example, if Americans buy more cars from Japan than they normally would due to a weak yen-dollar exchange rate, then domestic car dealers may respond by increasing their own pricing in order to maintain profit margins. Similarly, if there is an influx of cheaper electronics coming from Japan, then American retailers will likely raise prices on competing products so as not to lose customers and money.
Furthermore, I think when Japanese companies are able to make more profit due to increased demand from abroad, then they may be able to increase wages for workers back home, which could lead to even greater inflationary pressure throughout their economy and eventually spill over into other countries like the United States via higher export prices.
This can also result in an increase in consumer spending within Japan which could further fuel rising inflationary pressures for many different types of goods and services both in Japan and internationally.
2023 will have plenty of pressure on Japan from food supply to strain from an elderly population. The larger pressure comes from China, Russia, and North Korea where global supply chains are threatened. 3 words, South China Sea.

It was extremely depressing to go to the Parthenon museum in Athens see the empty parts and read how many of the missing pieces were in the UK. It's unacceptable. They should be returned ASAP. Also, everything else that was looted.
Why not just do full blown restoration project with applications of modern technology.

Several members of my family work in Mental Health, and will tell anyone who listens that ECT can be a godsend for medication-resistant illnesses. Of course, I understand why the idea terrifies you, but these days, the patient is fully anesthetised before the procedure, they won't feel or remember a thing, and most importantly, it is a last-ditch, if-all-else-fails procedure that the patient must consent to.

On any matter, Japan has always been a favourite subject for bashing or mockery by those European "experts" because she never gets mad and talk back fiercely like the other big countries such as US, EU or China, staying calm and "nice".
If what European experts said was right about the Japan's "appalling" countermeasures against COVID-19 a couple of years ago, the nation would've perished by now. In reality, however, Japan is among the least damaged countries in the world.

it's a Tunisian pineapple. Let me give you an example: two yards of bread are seamed 8cm from the center. One caught flight of AIDS and is transported to Japan. Would the the other be needed in 2026? You might think so but there's plenty of evidence that pineapples are not two missions but are actually "Too Misses" from right and center. They are presenting the fact japan isn't suffering from crippling inflation as a bad thing, they don't need to save their economy. If they ever want to "save" their economy and attract foreign investors or tourists they just have to print money. Switzerland's currency never inflates either and they do this, they are one of the strongest economies in the world. Whoever wrote this piece about japan is an idiot who spent too much time in college to understand reality.

The Japan segment seems weak. It's a very traditional western view of Japanonomics, but the first thing to know about Japan is that it plays by a completely different set of economic rules: the differences were not addressed in this segment. They've had naysayers for like 50 years straight predicting massive collapse, and it really hasn't happened, not in the way or scale that any of the external predictions suggest. It's a bit surprising because Economist writes solid articles on Japan fairly regularly, but it seems this segment was created without conferring with whichever writers usually cover Japan. Gonna go against the video here and forecast Japan will have a pretty stable 1.5% GDP growth over 2023, and no debt implosion. Curious to check back in Dec 2023.

Regarding ketamine… it’s interesting as many controlled prescription drugs could be used for many other ailments but they’re so highly regulated that only a very small portion of the population get to benefit.
Ex: ADHD meds (amphetamines) can be useful for nearly all mental health disorders but because of the risk of abuse they’re never used… it’s kind of sad tbh
With the advent of countries, from around the world, who have had their cultural antiquities removed illegally by archeologists and plunderers. This demand to have their artifacts be returned immediately could develop the 21st Century version of the virtual museum in the Developed World (ie USA, UK, Australia, Russia). The creation of mutual global access via governmental permissions to access these artifacts, via a secured network connection, 3D optical viewers or holographic projections would enable other people to continue seeing these items still as though display within each country's museum.
I'm so happy to see that all those countries are starting to regain their power and dignity. Standing up to the colonial oppressors, and the oppressors being weakened.

It's a cultural thing, women are forced to have kids even if they don't want to, forced to marry early and the government refuses to educate people about contraceptives.
@@vkrgfan I was referring to the trains infrastructure only which had improved substantially. On a board based level there are many challenges still in India. But as suprising as it might sound in most southern states there is a population degrowth happening with less than 1.8 fertility rate.

I don't think MDMA can actually help with PTSD because while it may temporarily suspend negative feelings and emotions, the comedown makes you feel terrible and depressed. Don't ask me how I know lol

They only use one moderate full dose per session. Repeated redosing in a single session is generally what causes the depressed feeling. Patients are also given pure MDMA which also helps.
I have not had bad comedown.
They've been able to show that it is effective through hard data and scientific evidence. They wouldn't have made it to Phase 3 trials at all if it didn't show positive results in the first two phases.

Our biggest hurdles is the massive bureaucracy! Creating hurdles on the way, the corrupt nexus between the politicians and civil servants are hampering the growth of the private sector. Blocking the free flow of capital and trade with ideology, corruption, and nationalism will loose this demographic edge as time passes on.

Part of rethinking fashion has to be to make clothes and accessories of better quality, last longer, and therefore be a bit pricier. People will be more conscious when they choose their items, and have items that they can keep for years, without gold rubbing of your jewellery after a week, or pilling on clothes starting to develop after one wear.
I'm British, it's an embarrassment to me that artifacts looted from other countries still sit in the British museum. Returning them wouldn't be erasing any history, just a nice sign the world is righting wrongs

@@jonathanbowen3640 Visiting UK is harder than visiting the countries they were stolen from for most of the world, the visa isn't easy for most of the world to get including the nations people where those artifacts were stolen from, plus the costs to travel, and not to mention why would an African go to uk to see african artefacts ? As for years people relied on safe havens as such, but now they too are all subject to the same threats, and you have no control whatsoever, on it.
The psychological is the game changer and is why people will turn to Meta as their own form of escape, which is a lie in itself, as it will be a new form of addiction' which separates a person from the very reality of life, as we've always known it. In effect we become nothing short of a Zombie World, with a handful of people left to solve how we get everyone back on track. Perhaps this is WW3 but not as anyone expected it.
