Unlike most content creators you bring quality content and keep it real.......Keep up the good work.

@@sadjaxx It's not necessarily important, unless you happen to be mowing the area (brush hogging) overgrown weeds and happen to rip off your sump on a high stump, or rip off a hydraulic line, or hit it the stump with your tyre and burst it. to me it seems far more responsible to cut them low, and frankly a damn site better than seeing 18"/2 foot stumps everywhere !

Please don't cut wide stock this way against the fence. Use a miter gauge and push the block through without touching the fence.
It might take ten times, a hundred times, or a thousand times, but eventually that stock will bind between the blade and the fence and you'll lose some fingers.

Wes, here’s what makes ME nervous every time 0:50. PLEASE, do not run the narrow end of a 2x4 against the fence like that. If anything made that short block cock between the fence and blade during the cut you will get a violent kickback that could pull your hand into the blade. Use your miter gauge for cuts like that. If you want repetitive cuts to a certain length, clamp a stop block to the the rip fence and position the fence away from the blade to give you the length you want. Or ditch the fence and run the miter gauge to the right of the blade and clamp your stop block to the table. Or ditch the fence and use the miter gauge in either slot and just make a pencil mark on the table for length. It’ll be close enough for that kinda work. 🙏

The weak spot at the base of the pine is a most probably a fusiform rust canker. The rust spores are released in the early spring and infect other pine through the needles. You can see the orange rust spores around cankers in early spring--orange colored. Very common in southern yellow pine.

4:58 Heres a thought. That long edge guide you are using, drill some holes in it every 6 inches, place a seed in each hole then cover, you have the row planed perfectly in about 30 seconds. It will take a while to make the jig, but well worth it.

    • @garybessey2184
      @garybessey2184 ปีที่แล้ว

Wes - If I might add 2¢ or so.... You really drilled that corn into rows mechanistically.. are you going to make those plants march around the homestead ?
Using that short metering stick to space your corn plants ..... the first glance I took, I thought about the average width of a man's hand. It's about 6 inches and I don't think those plants care too much if they're a ¼ inch off on their spacing. That said, I can't fault your planning and execution of the project. To each his own. There's any number of ideas and opinions out there. Just keep on with keeping on !

I think he explained that he was taking that tree off an outside row, where he needs more sunlight. It seems like, on this channel and a couple others, some people get all bent out of shape when we take down a few trees. Believe me, there are plenty of pine trees, and we ain’t going to run short.

I also wouldn't discount the chicken manure, as it will help to add organic matter to improve your soil over time.

If you measure from your thumb to you middle finger tip, or ring finger tip if you have small hands, you'll find that is in the neighborhood of six inches. Makes a convenient tape measure so you dont' have to carry a ruler around when you're planting seeds. Other parts of you hand work as good measures too. Think nuckles, fingers, etc. Just measure them and remember which equals what. For instance, I know my thumb tip to pinky tip is about nine inches.

You're nervous cutting down trees and we're all nervous for ya. It's scary stuff, stay safe!

What do you expect those boards to do as they dry inside your walls?

@23:00 Couldn´t you use the left-overs for building these raised beds for corn, with the "ugly"-sides facing inwards ?

Probably, but the dimensions are kind of wonky and they're a half circle so they wouldn't go together well, and I think the boards look nicer in the yard.

Wes, Great video! What are the dimensions of your shelter? We have 50 acres in need of development and that seems like a good design. Many thanks in advance, Scott

I think it's something like 32x30. Works great!

Hello Wes. You seem to always plan your cuts for felling trees, so I don't see why you are nervous. Do you mill the logs starting from the small end first? Have good days!

Yep, small end first. Makes it easy to see how much you can get out of a log.

Hi. Im wondering if you do have thought about using fresh cut wood for constructions. If you cut it 7,5 x 1,5 something… isn‘t it after drying „much“ smaller and aren‘t you afraid of using it for the house? Im asking because i plan to built an outdoor kitchen and i just have fresh cut spruce for framing. 🤔. Any experiences on that. I have told my wife that she has to wait at least another year until its done. 😂

It shouldn't shrink too much. I wanted to cut it a little wider but messed up a bit. For an outdoor kitchen, you'll have great results with green lumber. Most of the framing of my chicken coop was very green and it turned out fantastic.

It is normal for your brain to hit a track and stick there. Good for your mother to wake you up and nudge you into the sensible course of action.

How many acres do you have there?
