    I'm not an apiarist (that's a beekeeper I think) but you really know your stuff, and I now have a good introduction on how to deal with the Viroa mites and understand what nasty little bastards they are, and how devastating to a hive they can be. Like everything in life, we only get back what we put into it, and you certainly care about how you keep and look after your bees, your reward must be to have some of the best honey out there!

    Hi Wes. Does the vapor rise in the boxes by itself, or does it only move because of the bees moving their wings? Have good days!

    • @falllineridge

      It would rise naturally I'm sure, but the second a foreign substance enters the hive, the bees go nuts trying to get it out. They do the same with smoke from the smoker. So, I plug up the entrances and they flap their little wings and blow it all around. They're very helpful.

    • @nickd5943

      Dakotataylor I know a method to get rid of small hive beatles and it’s peppermint candy disc. I know it sounds stupid but it works and I have proof.
      First I heard about this thru TH-cam watching beekeeping channels. ( I’m gearing up to restart my apiary this up coming year) I was at a friends house and we where talking and he was having a bad problem with hive beatles. I had seen videos about peppermint and told him about it. So he gave it a try. We put the mints on the hive that day. (I would guess there where 15ish beatles on the top of the frames) the hive was beetle free with in a week. All you do to give the bees the mint is open the top put four to eight mints on top of the frames once every week or two. Weekly to get rid of them, every two weeks to maintain beetle free hive.

    • @falllineridge

      I see what you're saying. I could let the bees go and hope a hive or two is resistant enough to mites to survive, but then I would probably lose most (probably all) of my bees. So, for me it's a matter of not losing my bees. You can also look at it as proper livestock care. Kind of like worming pigs or vaccinating cows.

    Why don’t you use the dribble method to kill the mites?

    • @robertswan9434

      It's a bit late for effective treatment - you want the bees rasing the winter bees (so the fall bees) to be clean and mite free which will result in the healthiest winter bees. Dribble just treats the winter bees directly which is much less effective to have survival, just a lot easier time wise.

    • @falllineridge

      Robert pretty well covered it. I want bees going into the winter to be clean and healthy, the dribble method only treats bees during the winter (because the hive has to be broodless for it to work).

  • @drcdrdoct9864

    You may want to cut out those queen cells. We use a different type of vaporizer AND a pad during the winter. Mites will wipe out a hive and the illusion of a mite immune bee gives false hope and leads to lost hives.
