Glad to see you getting use out of the dead trees. I was pretty concerned when you tested the soundness of the standing log & didn't immediately look up. I work as an arborist & there are times that the hammering of a wedge into the back cut has caused a branch to let go. I was taught to ALWAYS look up as you work on dead or dying trees. Live trees have their surprises too.
This was a treat. I burst out laughing watching this for the second time. I realized the difference between youth and experience on the "go around the gate." hysterical.
You really do a lot to help the family and saving the wood that can be used for building things from the tree's that you cut down and I think that is so very nice of you doing it all for yourself and the family.......
I forgot, I'd already Id-ed you as good people. A Kubota man is #1!!! I have a 12 yr old B3200. Bought it new. I had a B2710 for 13 yr before that. It had a WR Long 4-N-1 loader bucket. I boosted my lift with bigger cyl and a new connection point on the boom arms, worth every hour. I sold the B2710 to my friend. I traded the loader off the 2710 to the 3200 and modified a Bobcat 4-N-1 for 3200 and the old loader. A great combination. Your L should at least match mine. You can boost your hyd pressure real easy with shims in the pressure control valve. Plenty of how-to's on TH-cam. You get better yield out of your logs than most I've seen. great vids....

I've never cut down many pines but I've cut up a million after they fall across the roads. You do a good job with your cuts and use of wedges. I've done a lot of firewood in my life and have dropped countless oaks and hickories over the year. It's always an adventure and they can get away from you very easily. We have 85 acres over in Alabama with a lit of mature pine and I'd like to get a mill and try this out. Good stuff!

Saw dust spray is coming out narrow and straight 👍. You have your blade and mill dialed in. Accurate mills are fun to run. I run a cooks mill and keeping it dialed in is my favorite part. Happy milling. I'm gone go ahead and subscribe.

I live in Michigan and golf quite a bit, and it really disappoints me when I see lightning damaged or trees that came down in storms just dragged off the courses into the woods to rot, most being hardwoods like oak, and maple, and ash and sometimes walnut. Such a waste. Nice to see you getting something usable out of those trees
My Echo 620p let me down the other day. I had a big dead pine to buck up and haul to my mill and the Oiler quit. Had to get out my old 290 Stihl. My echo has about 3 hours on it.

The cant is the square "log" after the first cuts are taken off the log, it can also be (as in this video) the two 4" chunks of wood before the 2x4s were cut off of it. Wane is when a piece of lumber has one or more edge on it that is not complete...it's caused by making the piece of lumber from the outside of the tree. So, part of the 2x4 is round like the outside of the tree. Hope that makes sense.
Hey there Bubber, do you think the miscalculation may have been the result of not measuring the log and instead guessing what the dimensions were? Could be, eh. Love the video.
Why don't you just saw the logs from the bottom with your chainsaw when you have the tree felled to buck it? I notice you always cut from the top and use your wedge, and it works, but it is so much faster to just saw from the bottom so the saw doesn't pinch and the log automatically falls out of the way.
I'm not much of a mechanic. I tried to do this, but what I managed to actually do was over torque that bugger to the point of having it locked down solid. CLUNK ! ! (First liar doesn't stand a chance ! ! )
LOL the price of diesel is too high for that, he slashed the top of the stumps, nature gave him the trees and he is going to let nature take the stumps back with the rain.
That's a ton of effort. As long as I can get it low enough to avoid with the bush hog and not hang the tractor on I'm fine with it. It'll go away in a few years.
Those trees look like they are pine beetle kill. If they have blue staining when you start milling then definitely beetle kill. FYI you will have more and more trees dying.

Most likely, but my plan is to have them in paddocks. I'll move them around to different areas to help clear land, so no need for ground cover.

Leave 3/4 Foot and get the Tractor chained onto it ... get it rocking, and pull out ...
