HATEEEEE CASSIAN SO MUCH. RHY LITERALLY forced everyone to be quiet about someones DEATH and cass is shitting on nesta???? wtf Bro she was in the right for sure for calling amaren a hypocrite. so dumb I hate him now tbh.
Rhysand two books ago: Feyre it’s your choice.
Rhysand in this book: Feyre can’t know about the pregnancy that will kill her.
500 years were not enough for him to be mature lol
i can't be the only one who stopped liking Rhysand in ACOSF 😭😭😭
@@Lemonadzz_ me too, also all Feyra`s "friends", like it was a theme that her new friends arent gonna be like Lusien if Rhys does something shitty, blabla etc But they all on his side and betray her. Also she said like two months before that she doesn`t want kids. This pregnancy trope just did everyone dirty , hate it so much
@@svetakirko8427 well she said she want a kid in short book after, but other than that… yeah you are right
@@kristinayushko1960 ah, that`s makes it a bit easier, i didn't read that book, started but couldn't finish. Still i don`t like the trope, she is like what 19 yo, 20 max
"Nesta and her breasts walk in" made me spit take LOL. Thank you cari for these videos
“nesta breasted boobily into the room”
Can you give me a timestamp? I want to hear that.
@@ellaadair2:16:36
@@susansung5082 Thanks:)
🤣
the "Nesta and her breasts walk in" gives major "she breasted boobily down the stairs" vibes though I can't remember the exact quote anymore lol
I’m so glad someone mentioned this, it popped in my mind immediately.
But where is it from? I can not remember!
@@jito7377 It was a comment on Tumblr in response to a section of a book where some male author wrote a woman walking down the stairs with a weird focus on her chest
She titted boobily down the stairs.
I think the full quote (which was satire responding to a male author's weird writing as mentioned in the above comment) was "Cassandra woke up to the rays of the sun streaming through the slats on her blinds, cascading over her naked chest. She stretched, her breasts lifting with her arms as they greeted the sun. She rolled out of bed and put on a shirt, her nipples prominently showing through the thin fabric. She breasted boobily to the stairs, and titted downwards."
It feels like this book is fanfiction of itself. None of the characters behave like themselves.
Omg ikr 😫 the 180 switch and character assassination is ridiculous
It’s Nestas POV mostly so that’s why imo
@@incognito3739agreed!!
because we’re so used to feyres point of view. i miss her brain☹️
When it is first person. It changes the characters depending on who point of view. Nestas point of view could be twisted because of the powers of the cauldron.
So we hate Tamlin cause he locked her up to protect her, thereby taking away her agency.
But when Rhysand doesn’t tell her that she could die giving birth, thereby taking away her agency, it’s just like, “Oh, you!”
Got it.
He made Feyre lock Nesta up too. Like, they both did the same thing.
Exactly! And at least Tamlin did it to protect Feyre. Rhysand did it full well knowing there was HIGH possibility Feyre would die
It was an intervention because she was self destructing and they care about her.... you'd understand of you ever had a family member killing themselves with addiction.. you intervene because you care and are at the end options and hope that they will recover on their own...
I swear Rhys was so OOC in this book. Between that, the pregnancy plot, and the cranked up smut, this really felt more like fanfiction than SJM's own sequel.
Tamlin sided with Hybern and attacked her twice!!! Obviously you’ve never had family or friends actively killing themselves with drugs and alcohol. Tough love is the last resort and Nesta was obviously at that point.
Can we talk about how the stairs plot is completely ridiculous?! It is SO MUCH harder to walk up stairs than down them. How is it possible she goes down to exhaustion and then makes it back up. SJM doesn’t know how stairs work I’m convinced.
no like I'm so confused about that - the first couple of times Cari mentioned it I was sure I'd misheard and she was actually running up the stairs. The fact that she's not is just mind boggling to me - like walking down a few hundred stairs is not hard (long, yes, but probably the equivalent of like, half a mile), if Nesta originally nearly fainted because of that, how was she doing literally anything that involved physical exertion???
I view the stairs plot as a reflection of her mental state, it doesn't have to make sense that it is "easier" to walk up the stairs than down, it is to show how far or close she is from being honest with her self and those around her. I personally love this book because it's a healing book
When I first read the book I wondered why Nesta didn’t just take a flat board or a thick blanket and slide down the stairs? Much quicker and doesn’t require much physical exertion. Agreed SJM has never seen or been on stairs, only ever heard of them.
@@passerby883I mean that’s great and all, but it still violates the basic mechanics of human biology. 😂
@@SparklyMistake I never thought of this but the flat board idea sends me? Can you imagine tobaggon-ong down ten thousand steps? It would be so much fun
Not Danika still being on the board 😭😭 We’ll never be free of her
she's a part of us all now
the whole video i was just waiting for her pop out of the closet, like surprise the baby's actually danika reincarnated
This is lowkey so niche funny
amen, girl
She like Allison from pretty little liars always up in everyone’s shit 😂
Isn't that... Kind of messed up that Rhysand knew the baby would kill Feyre and didn't tell her? Isn't that like, revoking a woman's right to bodily autonomy? I'm sure it wouldn't be great to abort the child but if the alternative is near certain death for the both of them, the implications of him being okay to let the baby possibly kill her are frightening.
Absolutely. And, remember, we're *still* supposed to be mad at her ex for locking a door.
-Not that that wasn't wrong, but the fact that the characters are STILL reaming out Tamrin when Rhys has her in a literal magic bubble is *wild* to me.
“Feyre it’s your choice. Except here. I’m pro life.”
And the worst thing is we're somehow supposed to root for him and their relationship? The only thing I'm rooting for is divorce
@@AnaT0 maybe the real court was the divorce papers we signed along the way
And the book makes it clear that not only it's a very well known fact, Rhysand's backstory itself should've been a clear warning that this plot point was idiotic.
"My mom told me she could have died, but I'm not going to tell my wife that information because I am way too horny right now, and besides what are the odds she gets preggo?"
[Proceeds to climax to the image of his future child]
ACOSF really said we can stuff Cassians entrails back in in the last battle, but a C Section is too far.
RIGHT!
Yeah it’s such a dumb story line.
I love how some characters are represented by fan art and some are just random pictures that suit the vibe
I want an ACOTAR series tv show adaptation, but not like a serious one, one that’s filmed like a telenovela. That seems like the optimal way to convey the absolutely bonkers relationships and plot points
they wouldn't even need a big budget, Sarah writes her characters dressing like college girls on winter break so they'll save a ton on the wardrobe department
Sadly, they won't give us that version😩
Anime would be fun Imo
it’s like the saw series for ya fantasy honestly… you go into the first instalment thinking it’s gonna be a serious attempt at the genre, only to end up halfway through the series in the weirdest and bloody soap opera ever ??
I feel like an adaptation would also work really well as a trashy reality show with those individual interviews
Calling it now that SJM made Gwyn part river nymph just so she and her unusually pliant bones can safely have Azriel’s winged babies.

I legit hate the ACOTAR series, but for some reason I’m willing to watch these hours long videos. I think it’s because Cari’s description of them is super entertaining.
Same. I love the commentary haha
I've never read these books (and I never will), but these videos genuinely make them sound so entertaining. Like not good, but I can see why people would have fun reading them? Or maybe that's just Cari's charisma, as you said lmao😭
Cari is just the funniest, especially explaining the wacky plot.
the only good thing about sjm's entire career are the rant videos about how awful her books are 💀🤌
Yeah true!
Only like halfway through the video (which I love btw) and I cannot get over the fact that Nesta being mad about getting lied to, and then spilling the truth to Feyra is portrayed as a bad thing? Like, wtf is up with this condoning lying to people "for their own good"? I hate everyone in this book.
If I remember correctly, it's portrayed as a bad thing because Nesta didn't say it out of concern for Feyre's safety but to hurt her feelings. And while Feyre deserved to know her pregnancy was high risk, that wasn't why Nesta said it. Feyre tried to de-escalate the argument and Nesta's immediate reaction is to hurt the people around her.
@@symwinter sjm honestly just fumbled that whole thing. we’re meant to like or respect rhysand after That? Absolutely not wtf. At the very least Nesta felt bad after telling her how she did that but man she’s the only one who told her.
Honestly I was surprised that after finding out about the Feyra is probably going to die but don't tell her bit she didn't just march straight to her sister and tell her.
@@10puppyluv I’ve always assumed it’s because the books portray Nesta as never really caring about Feyre. Like Nesta treats Feyre horribly and I can’t remember it ever being explained why.
wanna remember/realize a really depressing thing? Rhys has no consequences. we don’t see Feyre confronting him, apologies, nothing, 0. Feyre cries, Rhys get angry *at Nesta* and she pays for it like she was the one doing the lying. and then Feyre just goes back to rolling her eyes about how Rhysand controls everything 🤡 only for Nesta to lose her powers to fix his mistakes, and for IC to steal the weapons she made, and act like that’s a sign that he should become the king of everything 🤡 I hate these characters
Emerie, Gwyn, and Nesta share one brain cell and it’s always Emerie’s turn to use it

This book has its highs and lows and is pretty much what i expected from a YA fantasy novel but here are the three things i got from it:
- Tamlin deserves better
- The fact that Lucien just stands around for three or four books doing barely anything is criminal and he should be explored more
- Gwen is hardcore as fuck
Seriously! I’m still waiting to see if he gets his mate 😂
i feel like explicit smut books should never be classified as YA (even if they have the writing level of YA)
this dirty nasty sex book is not young adult fiction LMAO

Just throwing this out there cause I'll die mad, Tamlin (who, to make it clear, I care nothing for, I just hate being gaslit) Tamlin sacrificed his reputation and morals to get his partner back from a perceived threat (since *who* would just take a note saying, "I wasn't kidnapped, I chose to live with your worst enemy, don't come looking for me, kthanxby!" at face value??) and he lost everything trying to do what he thought was right to save the love of his life, but Rhys can't even have a conversation with his wife and threatened to murder the one person willing to be honest. That's the end of my TedTalk, I'll stop commenting now. #Justice4Tamlin
THANK YOU, honestly I've only ever watched these analysis and have never and probably will never read the books but his character is done so dirty?? I loved his character in book one and then he just become horrible in the second one with no real resolution nor redemption?? Idk I just felt like it was more of character association than anything and that really really erked me, like he got sidelined for rhys who barely was in book one and only in it for the last bit?? Not excusing or justifying tamlin’s behavior, just wished his character was dealt with better.
SO TRUE ! And people tend to lean into the argument of "Well he was physically abusive !"
He wasn't trying to directly hurt her, his immediate guilt and shock at what he did is proof of that. Was it healthy, no ! But it's a very real thing when it comes to PTSD and SJM decided that no, we won't explore those themes, he's just a bad bad man.
And also what Tamlin did is literally the trope of "I would break the world just to get you back" but in a fucked up way. Feyre wasn't even his mate !! Imagine if he lost his mate like that !!! #Justice4Tamlin
Thank you, much appreciated TED talk❤️
Yeah I’ve never understood how Rhys’s violent thoughts or possessive thoughts/behaviour can be excused as ‘oh but look how much he loves Feyre, it’s all about nuance’ when Tamlin did similar possessive and violent acts, was thrown aside by the plot, and became the ‘look how sad that guy is what a simp’ character. To be clear I don’t like either character, I just agree that the other characters opinions on Tamlin are a little unfair considering how highly they value Rhysand
Tbf, I don’t think exhibiting masculine traits such as possessiveness, anger, and violence are necessarily bad as long as it’s not damaging and disrespectful; it’s part of being a man. That being said, there’s definitely strong bias towards Rhys. What’s also weird is that I found him to be too much of a raging feminist half the time to be an even remotely realistic character. No king/warrior who is that ancient and powerful is a progressive feminist lmao.
17:16 kinda sus that Feyre is tearing down Nesta's house to build low-income housing meanwhile Feyre isn't willing to share any of her 5 houses with the victims of the war
I’m sorry I haven’t read acotar could you explain?
@@salicylicacid9945 Cari has made videos like this for all the acotar books, i reccomend you watch them
@@salicylicacid9945 from the little I remember of the trilogy, there’s like three places I know of. The actual palace, the Velaris townhouse and the one by the mountain(?)
Nesta’s place was a shitty apartment complex in the city, they were rebuilding it because the place was falling apart. They built the river house because the townhouse didn’t have enough rooms for everyone in the inner circle who were constantly crashing.
It makes sense to build housing in the city where people’s jobs are and yeah, the river house is extravagant but also not a good location for long-term refugee housing. The townhouse would be a better location, but again, only like 4 rooms. Not that helpful.
Y'all know that this fictional world doesn't have our politics right? They don't have to sacrifice for people to have nice houses. Nesta was living in a condemned building basically. It's not low income, they're just making sure all their people have places to live
Love how it's always Mor who's described as drop dead gorgeous when with every fanart I've seen of her it becomes more obvious she's SJM's self insert lmao

can someone explain to me, that in all the magic and body horror shit this series has, no one thought to give feyre a magical c section?
I was literally screaming C-SECTION the whole time
Considering it wouldn't even have to be *magical!* Ugandan women were seen having successful cesareans in 1879 by colonists, so they had to have been practiced without modern medicine way before that in the area. So, it's possible. Especially with magic!
In the text it explains that a c section will still kill her I just can’t remember exactly why
@@elliemartz1582 You can't remember why because it wasn't explained. We're told that it's never been successful in the past, so we're just supposed to accept it.
Exactly! I just went off on this rant in another thread, but a C-section is the obv. choice (which they ended up doing). The problem in the book wasn't even the wings - it was a placental abruption or some other cause of massive hemorrhage (that her fae body couldn't heal?). Why couldn't she shape shift just her pelvis? How the heck does her DNA change when she gets wings when she is clearly making them up from looking at the bat boys (Azriel has to have her adjust how she shapes them before teaching her to fly)? And what the heck are those wings made out of that even 2 months early, they can't fold against the body during birth. So many questions...
is it possible for SJM to write a story where she doesn't character assasinate the male lead of the last book?
this is killing me
lmao
is that character assassination or realistic though
Dude, I was so terrified reading the second crescent city because I love Hunt. But, there's another book coming, it's never too late for SJM to assassinate a character!
there was that one book where he (sam?) died before she could...

@@caricanread after watching the whole thing?? I’m more than grateful I heeded to your advice LMAO
The pregnancy plot not only is a character assasination of Rhys, but also MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE
1 - Not telling Feyre is so disgusting, but also she could have decided to turn Illyrian to save herself. Or turn only her pelvis and vagina , she can change parts of her body, I cant see how that could've harmed the baby
2 - I cant see any reason how cc is worse than almost certain death. Also how is cc dangerous for her. Like, she has fae heaing powers, no anasthesia is needed (outside of Rhys switching off her pain receptors) so it wouldn't introduce any foreign chemicals that could be possibly dangerous, they have some magic ultrasound, so they can control what they cut, the baby is fae too, not only that, its a baby of a person with combined powers of all the high lords and the most powerful high lord in the history of Prythian and you're telling me it cant survive a cc? I call bullshit
3 - I will accept the wings thing as a weird magic-epigenetics combination, but tbh weird
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk
100% agree!!!
no fr like... shes been brought back from literal death, im confident she could survive a little surgery with op healing powers
Yes! I was worried it was just me thinking wtf this is a completely solvable problem 😅
Same! Why didn't she just morph that part of her body to be bigger during delivery?? Or schedule a C-section, lol. Honestly, it seemed like she was hemorrhaging from a placental abruption, which had nothing to do with the baby's wings. And if it was born 2 months early (even for humans, totally survivable, often without any NICU care) it would be MUCH smaller, so, again, you'd think the wings would be less of a problem. Idk, this whole PROBLEM didn't work for me. Baby bones are all flexible... What are these wings made out of that they can't tuck in during birth??
I think I remember rhys saying how while pregnant, Feyre can't use her magic which includes shapeshifting and stuff but idk lmao.
Rhysand not telling her that giving birth will kill her feels so on brand for him though 😭 I mean how many times was Feyre like “No secrets, you tell me EVERYTHING” in the other book and he agreed only to immediately keep crucial info from her LIKE
Honestly 😭 he didn't even tell her they were mates
Right and feyre kept forgiving hom because they're mates and this is the first time we have seen rhysand's from a pov other than feyre and how much of what he says is bullshit
@@athenajaxon2397everyone keeps saying Rhys was acting out of character in ACOSF, but it seems pretty obvious to me that he only stopped lying to Feyre in ACOWAR when he ran out of things to keep from her. I mean he literally DIED and all he said to warn her was “I love you.” And this was THE END OF THE BOOK. Feyre begged him multiple times to be honest with her…kind of like she begged Tamlin multiple times to let her out of the house, but of course that doesn’t count because he’s a bad guy, right? 🙄
if i were nesta, I'd leave the night court and never go back. I just love how they make her think shes been in the wrong for telling feyre and seeing that rhys is actually a weirdo. I was so ready for this book being about her escaping the circle which is just toxic for her and conquering hybern
I would've done the same thing and that's why I like Nesta.
She was wrong about that because Nesta told Feyre to win the argument. She told her to cause as much damage as possible to both her and Amren. Feyre is the one who doesn't mind that that's the reason and accepts the truth.
Rhysand is an asshole though and his "I'll fucking kill her" is inexcusable
I don’t think you understand this book
Cari, explaining Gwyn’s backstory: And the person who saved her?
Me: *gasp* Danika!
I really felt all of Nesta's bitterness in this book. How stifled and ostracized she was, esp at the beginning. Rhysands treatment of her really pissed me the hell off
Вона це заслуговує. Що посієш те й пожнеш)
Yes!! Like I understand that he’s pissed about how she treats Feyre but I’m like…maybe take a second to look into *why* she would be behaving that way??
I agree, Rhysand's treatment of Nesta in this book was despicable (also a liitle ooc in my opinion), but I just can't shake off Amren's remark where she insists on keeping the sword Nesta "Made" away from her, because she would kill them all in a TEMPER TANTRUM, like she's freaking FERAL??? This is such disgusting mean girl behaviour.
idk I can understand why someone would despise the person who emotionally abused and neglected their partner for almost a decade
He really portrayed himself as a feminist king and then Nesta not being submissive to him as the others was an enough huge problem to sabotage her and lock her up through Feyre.
Honestly, putting aside all of the obvious awful situations, I feel pretty bad for Lucien. Like his backstory's already Tragic™, and I always got the vibe that Lucien was subject to at least some of the abuse Feyre suffered from Tamlin, especially after Feyre escaped. Then there's all the Under the Mountain stuff, the Ianthe stuff and the Elaine stuff. And then in this book, they're like hey Lucien seems to be having a good time with Vasa, why don't we take him away from that and put him back with Tamlin so he can defuse the baby situation with him? Like poor guy can't even keep the one (1) break he caught.
I love coming to these recaps after I finish the book. Hot take: the sweetest, most endearing relationship throughout the entire series is between Nesta and the house ❤️
That actually made me cry, which hadn’t happened since the war with Hybern 😂
I know we’re all focus on how horrible Rhysand was to Feyre, but can we also point out how messed up his treatment of Nesta was?
“Hey traumatized war victim! I’m going to kick you out of your home, destroyed said home before you can even take out your belongings and I’m sending you to military training. If you can’t beat your depression and alcoholism in a few months I’m sending you to the human realm where you’re absolutely going to get hate crime. You are literally physically unable to refuse because I can control you with magic”
YES! everyone just uses nesta as a punching bag ( I mean this is also coming from someone who isnt into these books ) but good god, they act all high and mighty but they treat a trauma victim also like shit. its so bad its laughable. the way they treat her after she told her OWN sister something her husband should have told her, but somehow Nesta's the bad guy. YEAH OKAY. its so appalling.
Rhysand and the war took everything from her - her sisters, her only parent left who just told her he loved her since day 1, her freedom.
Well SJM is one of those, "take a walk to cure your depression" idiots, so it tracks.
Yeah, that's really fucked up.
Surely you don’t think that allowing her to continue wasting her life away and spending someone else’s money was a suitable alternative?
JFC this take makes me feel like a boomer because I’ve never wanted to tell someone “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” more.
They gave Nesta the space to sort it out. Nesta didn’t do the work to sort it out. She just numbed herself into oblivion. The inner circle loves her enough to give her tough love. Calling it “abuse” is the quickest way to out oneself as a person who lacks accountability
I’ve just been crying laughing for five minutes straight at Koschei being represented as a massive furby.

The way the thought of Rhysand as High King stressed me out so much. Like no. Do not let that happen
It is _absolutely_ going to happen, and it is _certainly_ going to be framed as a Very Good And Right Thing To Do. 😑
Right 😭 Like maybe three books ago this would have felt like an okay idea
But bro didnt tell his wife she was dying. I do Not want this man in charge of a country
I just realized that the reason Gywn has 'flexible bones' from her nymph grandmother is because SJM needed a reason for her to be able to have babies with Azriel without dying 😵 thanks I hate it
She's also only 28 years old. And in high fae thats young. She's less then a 3rd of the youngest high lords age. Like I know that Sarah is adamant that Gwyn is an adult but it does not make sense given the time scaling thing she does with every other high fae. Even Alis's nephews were older than Gwyn. And she still considered them children.
I hated the objectification. Like even in simple things. Like nests says she hates pants cause it makes her uncomfortable that her shape is visible and then you cut to cassian looking at her and thinking about getting his hands on her
It’s so gross. For all the Girl Boss shit sjm is attempting there’s just so much misogyny
Also, how does a woman who can barely go down some stairs (seriously, she's not climbing them, it's not that hard unless her knees are giving out, but then she wouldn't be able to do any of that fighting training) even have that perfect ass?
It's such an unrealistic detail: she doesn't eat, she doesn't exercise but here she is with a perfect figure somehow? Someone like that is probably looking pale and sickly and someone who cares about them should be concerned, not turned on.
@@alchemy3368 Yeah. Her female protagonists(specifically Aelin and Bryce; I don't know if Feyre does it)also complain about the territorial nature of the males but then the author keeps writing them that way.
I generally enjoy the stories but there is a lot of stuff in them that annoys me.
@@britt6184 it's clear she finds that kind of behavior in her male characters as romantic/attractive and that's fine, whatever. It just makes me bounce off of them from time to time. Like, Rhys is unsalvageable in this book, besides from the fact that he drowns Nesta in gifts as gratitude, so much so that she orders him to stop. That's funny.
@@alchemy3368 SJM took her most powerful female characters(Aelin, Amren, Nesta) powers because they were more powerful than the ML. Idk, something weird happened to girl power in her books after her husband entered the chat; he even has Rhysand and Ruhn as characters based on him.
The fact that this book is in the teens section of my public library is hilarious

You do such an engaging job of describing the plot and characters in these videos that sometimes while watching I kind of want to read the books... but then you'll read out a quote. I think if I had to read 800 pages of "mate" and "male" and "brute" I would burst into flames. Thanks for taking one for the team.

Big same. The sex scenes in particular are a big bleh from me. It's less that their existence bothers me and more that the quotes def make them seem...obvious? Like, just the lowest hanging fruit which for whatever reason makes my eyes roll. If you're gonna spill the ink, make it worth the blush.
i must say throwing in a random 5 pages of the bury your gays troupe and then completely writing out that character is certainly A way to treat queer characters
That’s such a good point that for pointing it out
I couldn't even get through the first 50 pages of this one, and I read the other four very quickly and without issue. I have PTSD and I was so legitimately triggering by how the inner circle talks about, thinks about, and treats Nesta. Everyone else with their big traumatic backstories gets treated with compassion. Feyre and Elain get treated with compassion and patience. But Nesta doesn't, just because her trauma response looks different than Feyre's gastrointestinal distress or Elain's catatonic state. These people, who the reader has grown attached to (especially Feyre) treat her so badly! She needs compassion, she needs gentleness, she needs kindness. She does not need to be locked up. Feyre (!!!) locks her up! After not fixing the two main triggers Nesta deals with (the bathtub and the fireplace) like she promised. All fondness for these characters, gone. Especially Rhys, who now as a happily married man just spouts out sex jokes ad nauseum. /rant
My girlfriend, who loves SJM books, got me to read the ACOTAR series, and I want to share in her hobbies and interests, but this book was so painful, I had to abandon it. So, thanks for the video!
it's giving "yeah I support mental illness!*"
*as long as it's palatable and easy to deal with
like real talk, I think so many people internalized the whole "mental illness? hah! that's not a thing, just suck it up" except now it's moved on to symptoms considered inconvenient/unpleasant/gross/etc. so the reaction is now "eugh why can't you act like this person? they're also traumatized" (going hand in hand with demonizing entire disorders) and they just. Never address where it comes from.
almost no one talks about rhys knowingly & unnecessarily perpetuating his own trauma onto feyre in the very first book (controlling her to do sexy dances against her will when he's treated the same by amarantha - like there wasn't another way to wind tamlin up without doing *that*?) but they blast nesta as oh she's a danger, she can't take care of herself, her personality is awful so she deserves this. the ableism really shows and it's ugly.
Literally same
Omg I agree 10000% with what you said. Nesta is prepositioned as the bad guy and I hate hate hate the way she's been treated in this book. WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY being relied upon so heavily to be brave and save the day when she's literally traumatized and was then trapped in a house to deal with it all???? All of these characters were met with grace and patience in their experiences, and Nesta is always judged upon how she chooses to heal. Most characters lost their charm for me in this book because of their philosophies and treatment.
@@TaylorRae736 I know right? I imagined myself in her shoes, just hurting and needing time and love and support to process my feelings, and then someone coming in forcing me in an uncomfortable situation, trapping me in a house, acting as if they know more about me than even myself, acting as if they're doing it for my betterment, and yet invalidating my emotions and constantly acting like I needed to snap out of whatever I was going through as if it was completely invalid? I'd be so furious, so, so pissed.
When Feyre said Nesta embarrassed her when Rhys read out her itemized bar receipt in front of everyone, I immediately hated them all. I am glad Nesta made her own friends cuz that found family is toxic af

Either Cassian is a very good teacher or the Ilyrians are just very bad warriors. How the heck did 3 woman that only trained for like half a day for five months were able to defeat these "great Ilyrians warriors" that had been training for years for this blood rite AND reach the top of the mountain ??? Like , I thought it was hard???
Illyrians may be able to store up their Killing Power, but apparently can't keep up with girlbosses
They never fought people with ✨Plot Armor✨, the strongest armor in the realms!
I thought they were so bad bc it was mind control?
@@emptyhead242 Well, not all of them were under the mind control. Otherwise Balthasar (or whatever his name was) would be too. And still even if they were, the autumn Court soldiers under mind control were described basically as killing machines. So I don't think that was it. It's just that Nesta and co. have impenetrable plot armour so we could have their little girlboss moment. There's no other explanation that would make sense.
Welll Sarah likes to write her characters as super powerful “because they are the most powerful, never before seen and she was the most powerful and he was the most powerful of the all”
ACOTAR: Beautiful Romance Story.
ACOMAF: Feyre it’s your choice to sleep with the villain of the last book because your fiancé is abusive nao.
ACOWAR: Sex and the City and Wartime.
ACOSF: Porn, for Her. No plot. Seriously. Cassian pumps and everything.

That scene was literally embarrassing
“I’m tired, Sarah.” Girl, me too. I’m so glad books can’t give you literal whiplash.
Edit: I feel like we all just went on a great adventure together, in this story.
I love how Feyre questions whether torturing people under a spell is ethical 😂. Cos torturing people who are in their right minds is perfectly fine!
I don’t understand what happened to Rhys and Feyre’s characters in this book. I feel like they were the worst two characters!
Honestly those 2 have been the WORST since forever, I feel it's only now that we're out of Feyre's pov that everyone else notice it.
I don't hold as much against feyre because, after all, she's only like 20. At the beginning she's just 19. Rhys, Mor, and the bat boys are over 500. Amren is thousands of years old. I don't expect maturity from Feyre. 21 isn't exactly peak decision-making capacity for most people. Remember the petty shift you got up to at 20? The Spring court drama makes a little more sense. Feyre has a chance to grow up, but needs better influences than the IC.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
They started falling flat since ACOWAR(which felt like a money grab book)
Nestas pov I think
Man i enjoyed the first three of these books in a Junkfood Read kinda way, but this book made me SO ANGRY! I will never be over SJM framing Nesta as the bad guy for telling Feyre she and her baby were going to die. Maybe that news shouldn't have been shared that way, but that's only because Feyre should have ALREADY BEEN TOLD. Gotta love how Rhysand and Feyre are all about choice and no secrets, unless Rhys decides Feyre can't handle the news. Then it's fine to keep her in ignorance about her own LITERALLY UNAVOIDABLE DEATH.
and it's so weird to see people falling for it saying stuff like "well nesta says mean things and is making bad decisions >:(" and just not addressing the literal reproductive abuse from rhysand and the inner circle towards feyre (who are supposed to care about her??)
like yes nesta has a sharp, unpleasant personality and is making unhealthy choices due to trauma but idk that's still not worse than knowingly withholding medical information from someone that could mean the difference between life and death
I have never read these books in my life but I WILL in fact put my life on hold to watch these videos. I love them immensely!!🤩
bahahahh im glad!
It’s currently 3 a.m. where I live and I’m trying to stay awake for at least the next 20 min to begin watching this video.
Same!!!!!!😂😂
I've watched this video so many times and there are moments that just make me wonder..."why, Sarah?". Everybody's upset at Rhysand for the whole "let's not tell Feyre about her deadly pregnancy", but I'm more upset by the "if you die I die" bargain they have. But yet, Tamlin's whole thing in ACOMAF was the abusive, toxic relationship...
well feyre was the one who initiated that bargain so ig it’s okay if she does it
Tamlin was actively hurting and suffocating Feyre (even though that was not his intention) and locked her up. Rhys just kept a secret from her. Yes, it’s a big secret and he should have told her, but there’s a reason why Tamlin’s abuse bothers far more fans than Rhys’s big omission.
@shananika Rhys literally puts Feyre in a bubble that prevents her from kissing or even HUGGING her friends and family unless he thinks it's okay for her to. He did more than just keep a "secret" from Feyre, he withholds information about HER own body from her because once again, he doesn't approve of it. He sees Feyre as something he can control.
@@shananika but it's literally a secret that could kill her! i would never defend Tamlin's actions in book two, they were absolutely wrong but I think it's clear that a) they were the consequence of trauma and b) he regrets behaving the way he did. I'm glad Feyre left him but I find it annoying that they all act like Tamlin is the most horrible person in existence, when all of them have done really fucked up shit.

I don't think Nesta went too far, I *do* think that rhys is a scared little baby and what he did was despicable. Feyre should have been way more mad at Rhys, like threaten to turn him into blood mist mad
Agreed. No one should’ve been mad at Nesta for that. She was the only one who acted like a decent human being, and Rhysand was just?? Super abusive. Also if I was feyra I’d NEVER let my spouse treat my sibling like that. Horrible.
The fact that Cassian was so chill when Rhysand told him "he'd k1ll her" still shocks me. Wasn't him crazy over her?
Can I just show appreciation for Cari's pretty earrings? Every episode, she wears such gorgeous danglies.
2:01:02 “…and Azriel is like, ‘you dumb ASS, please stop, PLEASE stop.’” that one sentence sums up Az in the entire acotar series at all times to everyone

SJM could have just shown a healthy, mutual breakup between Feyre and Tamlin. And now reading all the comments on Rhysand in ACOSF, Why does SJM have to repeat the same twisting of characters again and again 😭 I really don't want to hate Rhysand 😭
Gosh I feel the same. Like she's actively destroying the characters we loved to fit into another characters narrative. Like ACOMAF Rhys wouldn't have been this despicable. And I hate the pregnancy tbh. Both Tamlin and Rhys need a redemption arc so bad😢

Honestly I think books like these could be called soap fantasy. They're not high fantasy for high fantasy's sake, and that mismarketing is probably what gives them the bad rap, but they are entertaining purely as relationship drama and wild plot twists. Makes me feel like I'm watching Emmerdale or Dallas u know.
It is also very telenovella. Like all the abuse and explosions?
I completely agree
Lol SOAP Fantasy. Yeah, that sounds about right. SJM probably watched a lot of SOAPs growing up.

I hate her use of the word male. As a noun, and also very randomly as an adjective "his male smile, male forearms, male voice etc..."
She writes Rhys as "drawling" a lot and I always end up imagining a southern drawl 🥲
Everything has a "tang"
My favourite part was when Feyre was like you are blowing out our money. And Nesta was like you mean your mate's money
And let’s not talk about how Mor told Feyre they could buy a bathtub full of rubies every day and not make a dent in their coffers. Feyre cried into her eggs because she was embarrassed of her sister, not worried about the money.
@@eileensnow6153 and I have another thought - what if Nesta didn't go wild that night and they didn't receive huge check but her ordinary check. so no one mentioned the bonus chapters, but one of them contains a new reason to hate Rhysand lol when he straight up forbids Azriel from kissing Elain even though they both want it, and it’s none of his business. in fact, guess what? yet again, the woman in the situation *doesn’t know* he did that. he is awful to Azriel for political expediency, and at that point I had to ask myself - is Rhysand really a good friend to these people?

"her shtick is that she beheads her enemies" is why Nesta is my fave tho
Okay question: if feyre was literally going to DIE, why didn’t she just try shapeshifting into her winged form just to try to save herself?? Like I know she wasn’t supposed to shift for like the health of the baby or something? But like it’s definitely established that it’s possible because she shapeshifted while pregnant, that’s how they got into this whole mess in the first place
Also not to mention Rhys and her have a suicide pact that magically compels them to kill themselves if the other dies and he acts like her dying doesn't mean he's magically compelled to commit seppuku as well. EDIT if the child survived but Feyre didn't he'd have been made an orphan really quick because of Rhys being dumb
the book basically said that the baby and her would die if she tried
Yeah I dont get how she shapeshifted once and didnt try to do it again to save the baby, like??
Also not to mention Thesan's power?? Literally coursing through her?? She should have been able to heal even the catastrophic injuries to herself as she gave birth. Like broken bones would HURT but she should have been able to make it along with the shapeshifting. SJM just needed to write off Nesta's powers I guess and give her a reason to show she loved Feyre now. It's giving poorly written fanfic for sure

Listening to these summaries, is it just me, or did anyone else always like Nesta the most throughout ACOTAR?
She's a "total pill" (haha), but she's the only one who's held accountable for her behavior. She may be one of the more honest characters, too.
I loved Nesta since the beginning. After three books i understood her, lmao. Feyre is not a great person as she think she is for three books straight where she badmouths Nesta, while trashing her friends and putting people in danger to save herself.
Will I ever read this series? Absolutely not. Will I binge listen to Cari describing the plot of every single one of them in a hilarious way? Absolutely yes
The whole pregnancy thing was so weird to me. Like feyre and rhys both agreed to live their life before having kids and then boom she got pregnant? And like Feyre has healing powers so during the birth wouldn’t she have been able to heal herself during it? As well as maybe shapeshifting? I feel like adding the whole pregnancy thing in ACOSF was just so unnecessary because it changed rhys character compared to what he was like in previous books, I kinda wish that they didn’t do all of that and just focused ACOSF purely on cass and nesta
I have ADHD, diagnosed and is getting worse over time. BUT your videos of these breakdowns are phenomenal, perfectly scripted and animated. This! I put this om and just started cleaning my apartment 😂😂
I feel like the editors of these popular authors just slowly stop having any say as the series go on, so we just end up with longer and longer and longer books full of so many unnecessary details, like the pages of Cassian thinking about Mor lol.
apparently sjm doesnt even use an editor :'''')
I think this is probably exactly what happens. The publisher knows books from these big authors will sell well no matter what, so the authors get more leeway to ignore their editors. Probably feels great as an author, but isn't always so great for the readers!
Oh, 1000%. Traditional publishing is really broken, many authors who _wanted_ an editor have reported that big five publishers promised to provide editing (as well as other services like marketing), and then just. Never did it. Tbh I've also always gotten a vibe from Sarah that she doesn't want to be edited, so I'm sure her publisher has made that happen for her.
They’d probably… you know… force her to cut down… just a little… on the ellipses.
Or maybe-now, hear me out- try to get her to change- completely unexpectedly- to em-dashes.
Cari's mini rant at the end about Sarah J. Maas perfectly encapsulates this entire series lol I'm so happy I saved myself the headache and didn't start any of these books. I just want the juicy highlights, Cari's edition. 😆
I'm definitely in the camp of "I'm not willing to read this myself but my friend loves it so I want to talk to her about it" for some reason this video had kinda become my new comfort video. I guess when you take away the writing and just give me a cute story about love and healing I'm willing to forgo all good sense
Danika just haunting the board of another world, her fingers in so many pies at this point we wouldn't be surprised if she waltzed in here

I'm so glad you ended up doing this video! ACOSF is my favorite book in the series (Despite the plot mess. The recovering from trauma narrative just vibed with me) but what I can never get over is how opposed they were to Feyre shapeshifting so solve all their problems. Like, There had to have been a month or so at least before she realized she was pregnant, and she was probably popping back and forth between Bat and Babe in that time because we know that she and Rhys can't go five minutes without banging each other.... and THAT didn't harm the baby.... so why would it do anything now? Make it make sense, Sarah.
Also the options are: stay in high fae form and both Feyre and the baby will absolutely die, or shift and *maybe* hurt the baby… it’s kinda a no brainer but I guess SJM wanted her twilight moment?

iirc the explanation for why her periods were so painful in the Christmas novella was because when she was made a fae, it "enhanced her attributes" which made the periods more extreme. that explanation is so stupid and theoretically breaks so much, so yeah, Sarah just comes up with whatever half-assed explanation she wants, there is no logic
Can I get a yikes for the fact that Rhys apparently "blows off stream" by physically hurting his brother?
YES FINALLY WHO ACKNOWLEDGED IT
It’s so messed up and they just play it off
I don't know how people picture Rhys as a prince charming. He does a LOT of debatable things and that's actually the author's intentions, is pretty clear throug out the book. And I'm not a hater, I love Rhys.
@@RosanaLobsI don’t think SJM sees Rhys as morally grey or at the very least I think she sees him as right at the end of the day. Specifically because the worst thing he pulls is his weird pro life shit in this book, and sjm punishes nesta for telling feyre. She has cassian side with Rhys and she has nesta feel immense guilt for telling her. It’s messed up imo.
right? the way it was described previously made it seem more like exercising with him, but this book makes it way more apparently that he’s just straight up attacking him rather than like sparring????
@@EditorialzeroI’ll never ever shut up about this, but Cassian-the male feminist extraordinaire-takes Nesta to a mountain to hike (knowing she’s basically suicidal), doesn’t _once_ ensure that she’s drinking water, lights fires knowing they trigger her, and has the audacity to frame it to Rhysand as _punishment?_ For _being honest with his dying wife??_ Someone please tell me how to keep rooting for these characters!
The whole pregnancy dram is so twilight omg😂 it's so stupid, why couldn't they just do a c-section?
