It’s fascinating to see so many comments with reservations around Jacob’s musical addition to the cover song.
I agree not everything sounds “comfortable“, but the constant musical experimentation is what brought him to this level, and is pushing the boundaries of music this very moment.
I would never take the trade-off of not seeing his musical progress by making him play more to the comfort of the mass listeners.

      Maybe a very astute observation...

    • @HyenaFox
      @HyenaFox 4 ปีที่แล้ว +50

@@AndrewPotterton Honestly I didn't notice too many "vocal gymnastics" in this rendition, seemed like he stuck pretty close to the Bill Withers version that he's covering, save for the falsetto part towards the end, which even then was pretty tasteful imo because it was just the final ornament on the song, no different than any other bridge in a pop song would be.
Do you like, only listen to classical singers or something, like having each note as straight and un-modified and stuff as possible?
Compared to what he normally does in his music, this was actually incredibly simple and safe. Imo the only "crazy gymnastics" gimmick of this song was that he changed key like every verse.

Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
    We all have sorrow
    But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow
Lean on me, when you're not strong
    And I'll be your friend
    I'll help you carry on
    For it won't be long
    'Til I'm gonna need
    Somebody to lean on
    Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
    That you won't let show
You just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'll understand
We all need somebody to lean on
Lean on me, when you're not strong

I started with a Casio CGP-700. Treated me well, you want something that sounds good out of the box. You don’t want something like a Nord Stage 3 that’s overwhelming. Your main concern if you’ve never owned one should probably just be learning how to play and what you like about it that way you can make a better, educated decision later once you get tired of your first keyboard.
