They debuted this song live before it was released, which is rare for Muse these days. I saw it at Aftershock... here's a Muse "shocker", it's even better live! (Won't Stand Down doesn't translate as well live, in my opinion)
I agree, won't stand down loses it's energy live. This didn't and is phenomenal. Going to see them in June, can't wait!!

Talking show openers, you really need to see "Take a Bow" live from them. Talking ENERGY and setting the tone, this song live does it like no other. Totally underrated in their catalog imo.

Usually Muse stick to their first song on the album as an opener and from the setlists it looks that way, with Will of the People being the opener.

Can confirm, his voice is just as impressive live. I saw the Will of the People tour when they were playing Oregon. Kill or be Killed blew out the audience, it was great.
I saw them back in October. They opened with We Are Fucking Fucked (Closing track of their new album). Their encore was Kill Or Be Killed followed by Knights of Cydonia. I’ve seen Muse 7 times. They’ve closed with Knights of Cydonia 5 of those times. It’s a regular closer in general and it never disappoints.
Kill Or Be Killed will be a staple of the their lives sets. It sounds amazing. I can’t wait til they add a heavy jam at the end, like their HAARP version of New Born

The major vocals took me off guard at first, it was a nice surprise, definitely unexpected.
Seeing them in June in a giant greenspace in the middle of The Hague, Netherlands. Have seen them live across their career from small clubs in Toronto to arenas and stadiums in Phoenix and LA and are probably my favorite band to see live. So much energy and spectacle from beginning to end. This will be my 8th time seeing Muse and I have no doubt it will be epic with some of the bangers off the new album.
This was the 2nd to last song to Knights of Cydonia which always ends their shows now, at my last live show At Huddersfield, England 20.6. 23
About 70% of their songs are Show Openers!!!

My favorite song from the WOTP album, the Muse from 2005 to 2009 would open with this theme, but the current Muse opens with the first track of the album in turn always

To answer your question, I've seen them live in October during their intimate small venues tour, and they do not play it as an opener. They play it as the song before the last, they always close with Knight of Cydonia.
Maybe it's going to be different during their Stadiums Tour.

They played KOBK as the 2nd song of the encore on Monday which was the last night of their world tour. And yes Matt can hit those high notes live! The show was phenomenal

I got the chance to see them live last October at The Wiltern before their world tour officially started. They opened with We are F*cking F*cked first time played live. But for the encore they played Kill or be Killed and closed out with Knights of Cydonia. For the world tour the opening song seems to be Will of the People.

It sounds huge live, which is why I was a bit surprised that your score wasn't as high as for other Muse songs, but I think it's fair score.

Hey DH great review!!! Yes totally they're playing this live, they just opened their your in here in Mexico in Monterrey, then Guadalajara, and today they're coming to Mexico City! This will be my first time listening to this song live! Unfortunately they're not playing this as an opener it's the first encore right before the last song of the night (Knights of Cydonia) the will be on tour 9n the U.S. in February you should definitely check them out live!!

I just saw them in Atlanta at Shaky Knees Festival. I’ve seen Muse a few times before, so I have a point of reference; Your absolutely right! It’s a crowd banger! Awesome live! It was 4th or 5th in the set. It was a good move! A lot of people know of Muse, but don’t know the music super well. This song transcends the gap and makes you want to get into the music and know a lot more about the band.

This was fun, I've not listened to much of muse lately, but I've enjoyed what I've heard
they've really stuck gold with this one, it also got really popular within the metal community, even got a grammy award as best metal song (which I dont think makes sense, cause why not give that award to a real metal band). I think this video was recorded from the Isle of Wight festival and the video was only released a few weeks after. I saw this live in the summer and they're placing this 2nd last in the set list, it really blows your head off and I think its a new highlight of their live setlist, which has grown a bit dull the last few years, so I see it hanging around after this world tour. EDUT: so no, the setlist opener this time around is the album title track "Will of the People", I think they chose that one mainly cause it sets the stage of their live setup with the moving head in the background

Matt is definitely one of the 2000's guitar gods with the sounds he creates live and just makes his guitars sing.
Man I saw them two weeks ago, this song is played at the end just before knight of Cydonia and it was Epic, The drum knocked on my chest so hard and th Pyrotechnic was so intense than i felt the heat and i was far of the scene. Awesome show

I'm sure based on the comments you know this song is played live, but you can literally see in the video they're playing it live? I think this song would be poor as an opener because we're do you go from that! The next song may be madness or another slow song and I don't think it'd be good to open that hard. I'm glad they've chose to use it as the second to last closing song to end on a high.

The song has been being played live before it's official release hahaha, the music video are performances of the song live, there is live footage from spain (the show I went) and was amazing, almost anyone knew the song and blew up their minds. But was almost he closer, in fact it was the previous one, being the closer knights of cydonia
Actually, the "music video" is a compilation of performances of this song; it isn't a opener but it's the second last song that they play of their setlist, it seems that it'll stay for the whole world tour that they're doing right now
Muse is akin to RUSH...their live performances often outdo their recordings.

Awesome riff! As always, Muse showed a great composition and performance level (8.8 fair enough), but for me most of their music is quite heavy (not from musical point but from perception point), they do have complicated riffs (it is awesome, but exhausting) and a lot of disonances (just his voice is enough). Funny thing I do not watch reactions untill I listened to song myself, but this time I did it and enjoyed the song a lot. Thanks for the reaction/review. Go on!

Always love your review, very deep and sincere. Matthew said the album was heavily influenced on slipknot but from what i hear from this song, looks like influenced from system of a down. Regardless, muse got their own way and sound. I love their new album, but i prefer old MuSe sound. More melancholic. I've been listening to muse since origin of symmetry album. But this album is different in a good way.

They knew this song was a live banger, in fact, before releasing the song, they played it in a live saying to the crowd that it was a new one. I also think that the live version is better because the bass is louder and I think that the recorded version lacks of that tone in some parts.
This song is better live but people on reactions keep asking for the studio version...

I really like this song though i think the chorus is a little too reminiscent of The Killing Moon by Echo and the Bunnymen. That's a great song as well though. Whenever i see that middle solo i'm mightly impressed so maybe i'm just not a guitarist, but I was suprised it didn't get a comment other than to say it wasn't impressive - it's all high up the neck tapping. but the pace of it is incredible and it sounds great - am i missing something?

Il just be repeating what others have said. Its the heaviest new song on the album,just shading past Won't Stand Down (Not Won't Back Down which u kept saying in this video 😆) Still not sure it's the heaviest Muse song ever. 1st time thers been proper growl from matt,and that heavy palm muted riff before the guitar solo is new territory to that degree. Also Dom with the double kick pedal 🤘Uve gotta get to a show amd convince Mrs Heretic she's wrong! 😆😎
