Not many people know what the song is really about, not even many Muse fans. Matt has said (on one occasion about 22 years ago) that the song is about admiring how a child can radiate happiness. "Everything about you resonates happiness". Just pure joy and bliss, without having to worry about anything, without any adult responsibilites, without having been exposed to stuff in life yet. And he said that he misses that feeling of being a child and would want to experience it again as an adult.
"Everything about you is so easy to love, they're watching you from above" literally means adults looking down at children and loving them.
"Everything about you is how I'd wanna be, your freedom comes naturally". A child can be completely in the moment, completely free, and be happy. And Matt envies that. "Everything about you pains my envying". He wants that for himself. "Give me all the peace and joy in your mind, I want the peace and joy in your mind". We've all had that when we were kids, but we grew out of it slowly. We can remember things from our childhood, but none of us really remember what it felt like being a child and what that carefree state of mind was like.
"Your soul can't hate anything". A child is incapable of hating anything or anyone the same way adults are. If something hurts a child, they might cry for a minute, but they will forget it in an instant and go on living their blissful, happy existence without growing to hate it.
Another interesting thing is that the background synth track is pretty much stolen from the theme music to a 1992 kids video game called Top Gear for the Super Nintendo (not that anyone ever sued Matt over it). Literally a game for kids.
And a third interesting fact: In the early 2000's, they used to play this song live all the time with those huge balloons unleashed upon the audience about halfway through the song. Those balloons are literally something that kids would go crazy over, not adults, because adults don't care about balloons. Kids would jump up and down out of joy if they had balloons like that. But so did the audience. For a brief moment, the people in the audience got to feel that bliss and joy of being a child, lost in the present moment.
All in all, it's a song about kids! :D

Thank you. I'm a massive Muse fan and have loved this song, pretty much since it was released in 2001 and I never knew that!
It's made me appreciate the song even more!
      And Fantastic review David!

your reactions are addictive to watch David! really glad that you enjoyed this song. it's one of the precious fan favorites. I'm actually starting to watch some of the reactions that I haven't heard the band or the song myself before. it's a cool way of discovering new stuff when you do a very good analysis of the songs.

Love that you gave it a 10! Just donated some money. This song is incredible live, the energy is always awesome. In the early performances of this song in 2001 they used to finish the set with it, and Matt and Chris would have the tendency to jump onto Dom as he was playing the drums and pretty much destroy the entire stage. Their early days were always complete chaos! Matt doesn’t do it as much anymore, but he was notorious in the early days for being incredibly destructive on stage, he even got Muse banned from renting equipment in the EU because he smashed the rental amps to bits!
Muse don’t mess around when it comes to live shows, and young Muse was the epitome of chaotic performances. Matt even holds the record for the most guitars smashed on a single tour (140!)

Bliss is top 3 of my favorite muse songs so I'm not surprised you enjoyed it. As a curious fact, Muse usually dedicates at least one concert per tour to charity and records it. Throwing balloons at the public has always been a tradition in many of his concerts, a scene that I remember a lot is when Dominic, after finishing playing, asked the audience to throw a balloon at him to burst it with both drumsticks

So much of Matt Bellamy's vocal work requires him to be able to pull away from the mic for certain notes to get the effect he wants. So I don't know if he'll ever choose to use a headset.

Maybe I'm crazy, because I'm a guitarist and that's my focus. But I will always say, that the riff is the driver of the song.
The keyboard is important for sure, but I doubt any casual listener will ever remember the keys over the guitar on this one.

I had no idea if you'd like the song. I had a feeling you'd appreciate the stage energy, and the beautiful sounding bass.
Fun fact: Muse basically had balloons like this for nearly every gig for 20 years. They aren't doing it anymore, and it feels so wrong! My statistics are 3 balloon punches, and 1 balloon pop. My friend also got booed for popping one once 😂

Sure, the Live8 version has Matt hitting perhaps his most delicious falsetto ever, but I just can't stand the trippy graphics on the screen throughout that video; and the audio is good but not nearly as well-mixed as this one. Everything about the production of THIS video, and Muse's performance, is flawless for me. It's everything I love about their live show. So I picked it, and stand by my choice :)
I love discussing "best-of" Muse performances though, so please feel free to share your shortlist of favorite Bliss videos.

That's a fair and valid opinion!
I think the album version of Bliss is a damn masterpiece, especially where it is placed in the album. It is perfect as is, and I highly recommend DH give it a listen on his own (not for the channel).
Having said all that, I appreciate their live take just as much. They have evolved it into a heavier, extended version with the guitar solo that isn't on the album.
I can never get enough of Matt manipulating his guitar to add new elements. When he was at the amp from 11:28-11:39, he was actually mimicking the arpeggio synth with his guitar, not just making random noise. I just eat that stuff up 😂

The keyboard is the lead because they don't have a rhythm guitarist. They won many times the award of Live band of the year, the song is from their older repertoire that rocks and has that perfect mix of electrical music and rock, but i honestly have not loved anything they have done since 2006. It became way too electrical, lost that progressive rock feel they had.

@@gmon78 There is a difference between actively smoking that is known to increase the risk of getting lung cancer and getting skin cancer, (that also can be prevented with the correct use of sun block). My mother had breast cancer, and that certainly was not her fault, but you are just being emotional about the fact that you think your mother "deserved it" somehow with David's comment, he never said that, but if you play with a loaded gun, you will get hurt eventually, so dont get your feelings all hurt now.
