The best word to describe music in the 70s is "eclectic". The 70s was definitely the most diverse decade. You could hear so many different styles of music all on the same radio station.
They've already done that one. For some reason they weren't too keen on it compared to the other Sweet songs. It's been uploaded twice but it's gone off the channel again
Amber is so right, there is NO music today, soul less and without any originality or creation or indeed talent. We were born and lived in the best years of music which will never return, but the good news is between early 60's to late 90's there is an infinite amount to listen to.
There is good music out there today. You just have to discover/find it. Most pop/mainstream stuff crammed down people's throats now is meh. This is just my opinion🤷♀️
Saw them open for Journey in the summer of 1979 and they blew the roof off the place! Was lucky enough all these years later to see them again last summer. I'm happy we did.
I saw them on this tour in Portland, ME. I was front and center against the stage barrier and both groups were awesome! I won tickets and and an album from each group from a radio call-in. Remember those?
HEYYYY!!! Y'all got to this one at last! My fav Sweet tune. Thanks! BTW - there is a long version of this one that is worth a listen. This was the version they played at radio stations. Fox on The Run is worth a listen, too.
Sorry but I still think the 60's was the best time for music and informed others groups to follow on what could be accomplished with the equipment of the time! And this comes from a child born in the later 60's therefore my formative musical period was the late 70's 2Tone Ska, 80's Futuristic movement with groups like 'The Human League', 'Duran Duran' and 'Ultravox' really going into the 90's for Brit Pop and the likes of 'Oasis', 'Blur' and the 'Inspiral Carpets'! Yet I still love rock too from groups like 'The Manic Street Preachers', 'The Red Hot Chilli Peppers' and 'Guns'n'Roses'!
@markdermody9698 -To each his own. Not alot about 60s music that I like. Alot of it was so basic and uninspired. It got better in the late 60s when they discovered there were more than 4 cords on a guitar.
I saw Brian at Rock n Roll Heaven in Toronto not that long before he passed. Never thought I was going to see them so when he came I absolutely made sure I took advantage.
i will never forget them! grade school getting on the bus my school bus driver always had little willy set to play when i got on! i had this 8 track! i am old!!!!
We were freshman in high school when this hit the airwaves man! 60 year old here as well. This along with Walter Egan, Andrew Gold, TOTO, etc!! Such great music that year 😎😎😎
Today's music all sonds the Same to me Mr Hawkeye I didn't realize we were going Thru a time when that would Be the greatest music ever. I wanta go back man !!
I've never thought they sounded American but I guess I can see that. Sweet, Slade, Wizzard, Gary Glitter, and David Bowie were ahead of the hair bands with their glam rock outfits.
I don’t know. Rock and roll spread almost instantly and was cross pollinating within a decade. It’s very hard to say something sounds “American” because those American bands were influenced by the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Bowie etc.
@@bradparnell614 Most people don’t have an accent when singing. The process completely distorts any accent. Vowels are stretched, consonants are often substituted with different ones easier to sing. “R”s are dropped or stressed or rolled depending on what fits. Wow! Sweet was huge in the 70's !! Need to check out the album Desolation Boulevard!! All kinds of Great material: The Six Teens, No You Don't, A.C. D.C., I Wanna be Comitted, Into the Night, Solid Gold Brass. I wore that piece of vinyl out, finally had to replace it on CD recently so I could jam to it in my truck! You won't be disappointed with any of these songs!!
Love to see you two react to the music so many of us grew up with and love to this day. What I'd really like to see is you guys re-react to the LONG version of this great song and so many others. Granted you two awesome human beings are popping out these videos 3 times a day for us so I'm sure at times it must be hard to do songs that are long. But trust me when I tell you, we ALL know when a part is cut and that part is what truly makes the song. And we your fans will enjoy seeing your expressions which would echo ours when we first heard the song.
I like your way of seeing the craft of songs Amber. There was so much originality round back in the 70's/80s and artists were not afraid to experiment. This is a banging track and a great comeback for them at the time.
Love Sweet, great reaction to one of my fave songs, the 70's songs were unique for sure, nice to see you two again. Please someone, invent a time machine so I can experience the 70's and 80's again.
Loved this when it came out. Was a fan of Sweet/Slade/T-rex in my early teens in the 70's [I'm 63 in three days] before becoming one of the original punks. We where sort of tribal with our music back then. But when this came out, I still bought it and played it to death! lol
It's amazing how groups from the 60's and early to mid 70's showed all groups that followed how to create their own sound and none more influential than 'The Beatles', however you can go way back to the 1920's and 1930's period and the likes of Leadbelly who's own music inspired Kurt Cobain to get into music! Paul McCartney grew up playing the piano to old Gracie Fields music and the likes when the family would have a sing song around the piano with his parents teaching him to play it! All music grows and deviates yet the 50's and 60's, going into the early 70's was really the best time for real pure music, not changed by wizardry in the studios! ❤️❤️🔥 How about 'Fox On The Run' as your next Sweet song??? Great show as always both!
The difference between most music now and then is in the 70's and 80's stereo was quite new and the played a lot with it and produced some great effects. They don't do that much any more. Sweet are a great band!
This song came out just after I got through Marine Corps boot camp, and it was part of my soundtrack for the next four years. "Baker Street" was another one of those songs, which Amber and Jay did a nice reaction to.
Each member could also sing lead, which they did on various album songs. Very very talented and massively underrated. Also influenced many other bands, who unashamedly admit their respect.
Sweet are an under appreciated Rock n roll influential band. The pioneers of the Glam Rock movement. They should be in the RRHF. So many artists mention Sweet among their personal influences.
One of the most under rated bands of the 70,s so many hits and incredible riffs so well written and played. This song has the easiest vocals to sing even if you can sing or not. I miss the 70,s my school days were full of awesome songs and talent on the radio.
So great you’re both continuing to check out SWEET. Please add ‘Action’ and ‘Teenage Rampage and their biggest UK hit - 5 weeks at number one ‘Blockbuster’ to your list 🙏🙏
This song has soooooo many memories attached to it! I was just out of boarding school in a small town called Ajmer (literally in the middle of nowhere) in India when I first heard this song on short wave radio at the beginning of 1978. I fell in love with it right away and have it on my playlist even now!
That was amazing! Harmonies, drums, guitar, all so good. I'm with you Amber, the creativity in those decades was so great. I feel lucky that we still get to enjoy it all 🙂
Love this reaction guys! Sweet were a proper rock band that charted consistently across the 70s with catchy singles, mainly in UK and Europe. All members could sing, as you rightly alluded to with their harmonies on this one, usually Brian Conolly as lead (super voice), but my favourite Sweet song is with bassist Steve Priest as lead singer: Restless on the Sweet FA album. I was never really into rock music until I flipped their singles and played the B sides. Probably the best juxtaposition of cheesy pop A side v Deep Purple 'esque B side, is Coco and Done Me Wrong Alright.
I absolutely loved the music of the 70's. You should try out Strange Dreams by Frank Marino and the Mohogany Rush. Especially if you like piano in rock music.
Great song! How funny. I was just listening to this song a couple of days ago after not hearing it for 30 years. This takes me right back to jr. high school. A lot of TRUTH in this song! 😃
I really enjoy your channel! Thank you! Your honest reactions are very refreshing and interesting to hear. I love your wide range of musical tastes, as well! My musical interest range of tastes is quite cross-genre as well. I don't simply like all music, but can happily listen to selected classical music, classic R&B, Big Band (1940's), KISS and The Cure. I'm almost 61, so Sweet is definitely in my "house". Def Leppard (also a big fan) were heavily influenced by artists like Sweet and Marc Bolan (T.Rex), considered 70's "Glam Rock". As for Sweet (also referred to as The Sweet), I'd suggest "Fox On the Run" and "Action". My favorite music era is actually the 80's, but as I said, I like many genres and periods. I listen to 80's music nearly daily for some music "medicine".
You should have reacted to the 6-minute 45-second longer album version of Sweet's "Love Is Like Oxygen." There is an instrumental section in the middle that is eerily beautiful and creative, and there's a fun outro too. Check it out on your own when you get a chance.
One of the few 45's that I actually had!! Loved that song and played it over and over back then. Now, I gotta go and relisten to their longer version, too!
You MUST listen to the long version! Sweet were so UNDERRATED!

You beat me to it! I was also going to make that suggestion. Those artists were wonderful.

Jay & Amber, you'll LOVE their "Fox on the Run"!!! I see Jay already did "Ballroom Blitz".
What an iconic guitar riff on Love Is Like Oxygen!

Yes as mentioned, they did Fox On The Run

The first time I heard it I thought it was ELO.

This is another one I thought was covered already but just as well I don't mind watching.
Back in the day I thought it was Queen! Lol

Try going to Japan for some creative metal. Start with BABYMETAL or Band Maid.

3 great songs by them

Mick Tucker was a vastly underrated drummer.

Yup. That drum beat and the drum fills in this song are unbelievable.
The extended version has a nice classical piano break.
When I was a kid and heard this song, I always thought it was a 10CC song- same kind of style.
I was shocked to later learn that it was Sweet.
I think it's the combo of high and low vocals
