    Especialy interesting was about the the lenght of the pedal cranks. I've never tought of it as that important for the effectivenes of the power output. The effect seams to multiply it self within the contained space of the velomobiles shell. Thank you, Uncle Saukki.

      Yeah, I had problems with my shoes touching to the body in Milan I was testing earlier. It had 155 mm cranks. So there seems to be a lot of benefits from shorter cranks.

    Enjoyed this one. Pretty good reviewing details. I think you were objective enough, while giving your your near expert insight on features. That's your performance. Thank you Saukki.
    As far as the Milan...
    It started to remind me of "Sheldon" and dust ruffles.
    It exists because there is dust!
    With the Milan you were quick to mention all the drain holes. Seems like there is a lot of opportunity for moisture to get in. Like air management, and loose fitting parts, I agree this is where improvements can be made.
    You see humps for knees, and this being the internet, I see the valley. Is this detail really that much improvement in aerodynamics? The valley could disappear, becoming more room inside for better...
    And sometimes I lose sight of the everyday velo vs. a racing velo. Maybe you could help us understand how this is shaking out in the industry.

    Very very good comprehensive review. I like the body design considerations (space for feet and knees) and vents and I actually do like the aesthetic. What I don't like is the lack of space and the way the hood works. I think it should have a proper arm to hold it up when you exit the vehicle. Also the beeper is the most annoying thing ever haha. Finally the luggage space is just a little less than I would want for touring with camping gear, which this seems really good for given the efficiency. I would love to see a more practical Milan with these improvements but I think it's more like a really refined road race bike or sports car and for fast rides on sunny days, and it's clearly almost perfect for that use case. I am just trying to set my heart on the perfect velo for when my circumstances allow me to get one and your videos are the best for getting a real understanding of what these vehicles are like day to day. I cannot wait for more speed data and testing, hopefully a lot of good winter videos to enjoy before we can find out what this is capable of.

      You are describing the Milan GT! I have a GT and it offers more space for luggage, has bigger ground clearance and allows for wider tires: more practical than SL, and only a very little bit slower. In fact, a friend of mine rides a SL and at normal cruising speed, we run exact same power numbers. Only when sprinting well over 60, the difference becomes noticeable

    Some info:
    - The hood part of the regular hood does not fit inside (not even in a GT).
    - The cable for keeping the hood up is very annoying: After a while it starts to hit my knee. I know have a little thingy on my water bottle in which I press the cable to hold it down when I'm riding.
    - Concerning drainage: I drilled a few drainage holes below my elbows.
    - After some km's, the seat gets loose when you move inside of the bike or hit a bump at speed. The seat can jump out of the supports. It would be better to somehow fix the seat to the floor.
    - Concerning tires: On an SL 35mm Durano's work quite okay. I run my GT on 38mm tires but that's too much for the SL I think.
    - The SL is really small, but I really consider the GT a practical bike, basically a true GT. Big enough to carry my clothes, laptop, shoes etc., but really fast once you hit open road.
    - How dare you call lady Milans boobs weird?!

    Not putting 200 mm disc brakes on the open wheel well Velos, is nearly criminal. The Ginko SA 90 mm drum brakes are a bit better, than the standard. It must be said that I ride in a lot of mountains and some of the passes are over 3000 (9000+ Ft.) meters above MSL, and living in the GPNW, where it is known to rain occasionally. Contrary to popular belief it does not rain here all of the time. It usually doesn't rain (much) in days ending in August. When transiting from the cold snowy Colombia Plateau, over the pass to the warm and wet West side of the Cascades, drum brakes take more attention, then my disc brakes. So don't be cheap, and pay attention too yer Uncle Saukki, friends don't let friends use 70 mm brakes. ;-)

    • @chrisperceval193
      @chrisperceval193 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to wonder about the disc brake thing. I have 90mm drums on my DF. I did not know what to make of them at first, the feel is very different from the discs on my Cruzbike. However, one day I was going fast round a corner forgetting about the temporary lights just round the bend. I was doing about 50kmph when the back of a white van loomed large in front of me. I braked for dear life while looking for run off options either side. Boy those brakes worked! They sort of 'wind up'. Brought me to a halt in good time, I did not flip onto the nose etc. They are very good. They are also virtually maintenance free. I often needed to fiddle with the disc brakes as some sort of small rubbing would start etc. The pads on the drums last ages too. I suspect that there would be mounting issues for the discs and space would need to be found on the inside of the wheels too. All in all I get the decision to use drums now and am happy with them.

    • @kirkjones9639
      @kirkjones9639 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisperceval193 There are good and bad about both designs. For my environment, disc brakes with singtered pads have worked best, with Ginko SA 90 drums running a close second. If'n I were in someplace like Nebraska, Iowa, Texas etc. I would take drum brakes in a hot second. Not all solutions work everywhere.

    • @JohnR31415
      @JohnR31415 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve had both on naked trikes, and the discs take a lot more maintenance and fettling.
      It might be better with hydraulic discs, I think one manufacturer does a mirrored pair of callipers - not having to deal with stupid cable bends could be an advantage

    • @4nz-nl
      @4nz-nl ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you'd warp discs fairly quickly on the front wheels in hills. When going down hill best just use a parachute or a motor.

    • @kirkjones9639
      @kirkjones9639 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@4nz-nl Of the eight people I know who run around in the mountains out here, and run disc brakes, rotor warping has never been an issue. While I don't change altitude by more than 8000 feet, during the day, it does happen now and then. I use sinctured copper pads, and change my rotors out at five year intervals. While the sinctured pads do wear the rotor more, so far there has been no failures, or fading due to heat, and none of us has yet to warp a rotor. We are all open wheel rides though. I think that Velos with enclosed wheels, like the Quest and Milan, would have serious heat issues.

    Thanks a lot for your videos uncle Saukki ! I got a few questions for you...
    You're going to do some speed tests. How about some urban riding tests ? I live in a big city and its around 10 kms to reach the countryside. Will i be respected and will i take some real risks at the intersections ?
    I hav seen other videos of the lupin lights and turning signals at night on DF. They seem weak as f... I am eye impaired and i would rather like actual motobike lights to see at least 40 m before me... Also, i think turning signals are basically not visible especially in day light. Are you confident enough that they are seen ?
    How about using the hood when its summer and temperature above 25°C ? here we have almost 90 days above that and people say they just can't use the hod at all. Could you compare the speed of BM hood vs full lid like when you did quest with hood vs quattrovelo without ? like that they would figure out what they miss... :)
    Thanks for your really nice content, its always interesting and funny !

      Thanks! Great video ideas 👍
      About the lights:
      The single IQ-X headlight is not powerful enough for night riding. So I do recommend upgrading to the Lupine SL-AX, which should be much more powerful. You can also get Kellerman (motorcycle) tail lights which I think are better than the standard ones. I have a feeling these standard lights I have are not visible enough on road. I feel more comfortable with Quattrovelo standard lights, which are much better. (Well basically it has same lights and leds, but positioned much better. )

    Saukki, the tires look like Shwalbe Pro1 tires they are meant to be run tubeless, if they are tubeless ready you can run at lower pressure have lighter weight and lower rolling resistance.
    Probably you know all this already, I run Conti Contact Speed tires and run them at 55 psi they feel great have low rolling resistance and no punctures as of yet , I'm going tubeless soon .
    Question sir , are you running a 20 inch wheel in back ?

    One question I‘d like to ask you: you look like a strong guy and I‘d like to know your shoulder width (complete from left to right) to get a feeling how narrow the Milan is.
    I‘m a bit „massiv“ so I‘m not sure if the Milan GT is the right joice or if the Quattrovelo could be better.

      On my Quattrovelo the distance from shoulder pad to shoulder pad is about 47 cm. The Milan SL is about the same width, but without any shoulder pads. (I don’t have the Milan here right now so can’t measure it just now).
