CCTV and BBC jointly produced a 6-episode documentary called Wild China. You could watch it, and the scenes of China in this documentary are very beautiful. This kind of beauty is exactly what the west hope China to be, wild, primitive, and backward. In this documentary, it is completely unclear that China is the world's largest industrialized country.

@@robinzzs Otherwise, you think the BBC would be willing to join in? Unless BBC can portrait the place like the wild wild world African safari with yesteryear's nostalgia, it wouldn't be politically correct.

I myself was influenced by western culture since I was a young kid, so I can say that I understand western culture more than western understand us, the Chinese. What a stunning beautiful landscape you are surrounded with! You are so lucky to be able to study Chinese language at young age in such beautiful and relax environment. I wish I can be retired right now and buy a property in this place. Any place with water, mountain/hills, cannot go wrong. I hope they keep this place not too crowded or too commercial. China has definitely changed for the better. Years ago, rural place like this did not look this organized and clean. Now it looks so nice and neat and well maintained. This is so much prettier than what I have seen in other parts of Asia. Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful China that people cannot see from the bias Western media. It is sad, that the Western media is so mean to China and Chinese people and people actually believe what the crap they spread out there. Please keep doing what you are doing in showing us what you see and experience in China that we cannot see outside of China through the Western media.

Hope the world becomes better, work hard together, and feel the beauty of the world.

Just like Toshiba was big in semi-conductor but US forced them to sell and let them keep some key components. And US has so much turmoil internally and they want to make the same mess globally. They used whatever to divide including racism and wars. The NGOs are one of their weapons. They are mostly funded by government and run by ex-government officials.

I've seen White people on the internet literally say Asians are an inferior race. They don't want to see any Asians/Chinese succeed. I've also experienced it multiple times in my 30 years in NYC. They may not say it to your face most of the time but you can tell by their attitude and body language conveying that thought. No it's not EVERY non-Asian people doing that, but there's more than enough of them. That's why there are a lot of self hating Asians in the West. They don't want to face this kind of discrimination constantly and want to become fully assimilated (White) and reject their Asian roots.

That shoe fixer on the sidewalk reminds me of my time in my hometown in southern Philippines when I was younger. We have those people and back then people aren't so into consumerism and so keeping a quality old shoes was common and this trade was really common. You see them fixing shoes here and there and waxing them in the end. But now so many bargain shoes are available you don't see that many people trying to fix their leather shoes

Here in Indonesia, shoe fixer are still exist and I've been seeing them on many occasions. I suppose they may not be as popular as they were back then but in my case, I often seeing one wandering around as they carry their sewing tools while shouting "shoe sole!" on the way, hoping for anyone to use their service. Sometimes I feels bad for them because they're poor and people paid them cheap.

For real 6:09-6:30 I just love how clean and tidy the street is, almost mistaken it as Japan for a moment!😍
Just wow! Is this even a county?😳 It's fascinating how developed and modern this is with "urban" town design, multi-storey housings and offices, modernized public services and facilities to an extent, high standard private school(?), etc.
For example, my hometown which is supposedly a provincial capital city itself, is not even close to a "mere" Chinese county like this! And fyi, a Chinese county is close to a district in Indonesia.. but Yangshuo is just as developed and, if more beautiful than many regencies/cities in our country here😍☺️

I left my hometown since I went to college which is far way from Guilin. And I’m working at the first-tier city in China. It’s really like what you said: Always keeping up with something surrounding you. Living my life with materialistic and spiritual pressure in the metropolis. And I’ve got used to it for ages since I came to the big city. But actually down deep, I’d rather living my life much simpler.

Godamnit, your Putonghua pronunciation is spot on !!!
You’re living the life, man! Feeling like 16 again sounds about right: so much to look forward to; all curiosity, wonder and venturing forth. Wished more foreign friends would come to see China for themselves like you and not shortchange their dreams by listening to biased MSM.

@@BarrettYT You are certainly doing that. I think one day we will all look back and see how your videos (and those of your fellow YTers in China’s) are at the vanguard of this unique movement of “foreigners” (personally I view you guys as Chinese) pioneering an insider’s’ view of China on the ground to a western audience. This space is a vacuum as the MSMs have wilfully relinquished that job. Keep up the good work.

Oil, Very well said! Life is changing, people is changing, nature is changing too……nothing is fixed, people should keep their mind open and growing……you have been growing so much since first time watching your video…….Society is a real university, you learn more priceless and valuable lessons from your own life experience! If your high school classmates still picture you in the old way, it means they are really stuck in the past and you are moving fast forward…….just like when I compare UK with China…..

It’s a great place to visit and live. But people from Guangxi province (where Yangshuo belongs to) have many various strong minority accents. It may make your learning experience much harder. Oli has problem understanding the sewing lady but even for native Chinese speakers, they can barely understand her as well.
If you want to quickly improve your language, you should probably try Beijing or other big cities. But if you want to balance your language study and living and exploring the beauty of China, Yangshuo is definitely a top choice.
