Many around the world, whether it's personal belief or corporate interest will try to make you believe that the Chinese government don't care about the rural parts of China... that doesn't at all align with our experiences and here's yet another video to show you exactly what they are doing to better the lives of villagers nationwide.

Such a shame the Population in the rural parts of china is dwindling with the younger family members moving to the cities, rather live there then the high rise block of flats that I have seen, and do hope they renevate them back to there former glory for people to enjoy and keep the historic value for years to come,do like these rural videos 👍

In the rural area, you would find these buildings with a courtyard in the center surrounded by rooms. It was built by one of well off ancestor, might be "The Smiths" or "The Jones". You still see their descendants still lives in that building, yet some descendants who have become successful will contribute back to restore the building to show respect. Some even travel from all around the world. Our family has been doing it and I'm 3rd generation Chinese Migrant. It's very fascinating to meet everyone whom relatives once took shelter in the same building.

Just a thought... one spends time gathering up citizens, moving to a single high-rise, on smaller footprints
      1) ownerships are released back to local governments ... as you have a newer but, different lifestyle.
      2) if ever needed, structure/ controls are in line already on larger numbers... utilities of water, electric, gas, and tv/internet services, easier to maintain 👌.

Welcome to Shanxi, those caves are so-called "Yaodong". If you go to Shanxi 10 years earlier, you could find many people still live inside even on the outskirts of the capital city. Those pure wooden joints are absolutely old. If you have the opportunity to go to Shuozhou in Shanxi, you could find a fully wooden pagoda that has nearly 1000 years of history. It is famous and fascinating. Shanxi is a place full of antiques. :D
I would also like to recommend you Taiyuan, the capital city of Shanxi. You can easily try delicious typical Shanxi food there. Traveling in the countryside is not easy in Shanxi, I suppose Taiyuan would be a good place to relax when you get tired.

Chinese here. I personally think not all of them will get renewed and modernized, especially when they are too remote. In many cases, those old houses if they are empty, are abandoned, because the owners are assigned new houses in the city. I doubt it if anyone will ever renew it. But if there still are people living in them, and likely they are not in those steep mountains (people used to hide from wars), many have been modernized. That’s the case of my grandfather’s house and village.

Good to see you all having fun in Rural China!
Love it whenever we visit the family tree farms... about 75 farms out of 365+ families.
    Life is very good!
Dad's farmhouse was built by his brother during occupation of Japan in 1940. His brother and wife still live there. They're ~100 yo and still grow their food, keep house, and more!
They made the clay bricks for the walls, it has a dirt floor, and an open pilgrim fire cooking/ heating pit area inside... similar to colonial times stateside using wood.
Yes, she can cook a great meal for many to enjoy! Over the 10 ft walls with the bedrooms made from wood/timbers. No centralized heating or ac.
WC is connected on the outside. The well dried up when too many moved around them ... the government installed a waterline into their home. History still at its best while, the original owners remains inside; located in northern mountains of Guangxi.
You gotta love this type of lifestyle on the homestead!
    Have a great day !

Those abandoned courtyards and houses have Spring couplets posted on the front doors, not because people live in them. That is because during the Spring Festival, in addition to pasting Spring couplets outside the door where they currently live, Chinese people will also pasted Spring couplets in the place where they used to live. Even if no one lives there anymore. When I was a child, my father would always take me back to the old house where we used to live, but no one lives now, to post the New Year couplets. This is a traditional habit. But I don't know why

And I think it's fair to the people who have found home and peace at some place to not force them to go away. And if you read Chinese news themselves, you can find instances where people didn't get proper compensation after being forced to move and suddenly struggled with their life.

NOT with the so called western democracy and freedom. For 5000 years, now, under communist rule, the people of china enjoy the most freedom and wealth. The west just want to destroy china.

Hospitality is very common when Chinese see guests, since we have an old saying that anyone who is not living here is a guest. It roots from one of the Confucian principle that people’s nature at birth is kind.

And they was like "what are you talking about? That's what we are preparing for." They showed me all the renovation they did to their house and all the fruit trees they planted everywhere on their land. Guess what, because when the government take their land, they are going to be compensated for not only their land, but their house and even every single tree they planted. When folks moved and left, granted that it will look nowhere polish. I am fascinated by the details of some of these deserted house - the dome shape ceiling, arched pillars, and the details of the wooden door panels, the straw-mud walls (seen such in old Kyoto houses too), etc. If these are restored, it bet it will look like a beautiful piece of heritage.

    你们可以把这种窑洞,理解成中国真实存在的古老霍比特村庄,看上去非常简陋破旧,实际上在里面居住非常的舒适和惬意,这是在北上广那些巨型超级都市无法体会到的

Wow, I admire you guys for going that far in China and sharing this video with the world - I live in Austin/TX now but I spent 4 years in Northwestern China's Xi'an City for 4 years (college). I never been to this place. Thanks for sharing!
