The Hui (回) 'ethnic minority' are basically 'ethnic Han' Chinese who are Muslim. I said 'ethnic Han' Chinese because not not all Han Chinese who consider themselves Han are actually Han. E.g. the Yue people of the south or the Xianbei people (matriarchal line of Tang dynasty emperors) of the north were sinicized hundreds of years ago. Ethnicity in China is complicated because of its long history.
The Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) are instruments of power and rule - they are logically constructed heresies. A solitary god (YHWH, God, Allah ...) is a fictional figure - a personification of the light energy and with that you can of course say anything and persuade the common people to be a collective superego. "Light energy (God) is everywhere and created everything." But actually it was and is about baiting people, leading people, shaping them and keeping them intellectually small - it's about creating ingroups and using these groups of people. The common people are lured with festivals and this instrument of power and rule is sold to the common people as something good. Let us remember: Millions of people died because of these logically constructed heresies (Judaism, Christianity, Islam ...) ... history has been falsified, knowledge censored ... and so we are currently still living in this induced collective madness and do not realize that it is a perfidious instrument of power and domination.

I’m from Inner Mongolia and living in New Zealand now. Since I was little I remembered it was the government’s rule that all the stores have to have Mongolian language as well as Mandarin as signs. The government wants all people to be able to communicate in one language but still protecting minority’s language and legacy.
Of the millions of Muslims in China that Barret could choose to interview, why would he select Abby given all her political baggage? Afterall Abby's real name is Xinmeng Yang and works for the Chinese state media CGTN. It's right on her Linked-in profile! This means she must abide by the Chinese government narrative as mandated by her employer. Just hearing her American accent (as oppose to a mainland Chinese accent) should be a dead giveaway that she is not your typical Muslim in China. I checked Abby's Facebook page, Instagram, Twitter and Linkedin and found that she lived in the US from 2014~2020 and graduated from Syracuse University in upstate New York and once worked for ABC News! She even did a news report on a Walgreens and CVS in New York during the pandemic! Her pictures shows she travels all over the US and China including celebrating Chinese New years with dumplings (usually made with Pork). Such information really discredits Barrett's interview as she's nowhere close to being a typical practicing Muslim in China. I'm sure there are many other qualified Muslims that Barrett could have selected to interview instead.
My university roommate is a very devout Muslim. She prays in the dormitory and spends Ramadan. We do not disturb each other and live in harmony. Everything is natural because we understand each other. I am from Gansu, China
If compare the Muslim’s situation in the US and UK, Chinese muslims are really well protected and respected by the Chinese government and common people. Thank you Lee for this wonderful interview👍
The trouble of some minority of the muslim community. Here in EUROPE . 1】 They try to halalized others, by demanding, to ban non halal food in the school cantine, or informing non muslim community,≈ the host community, that they should embrace islam as a way of life. 2】 Even during an AE= Accident Emergency cases, they demands, that the examination diagnosis should be carried out by a women doctor, in case of physical cum ckinical examination of their daughters or wife. One of my colleagues is from the Tujia ethnic group. She is also a minority ethnic group. She is very patriotic.I remember one National Day, my boss bought a bunch of national flags and Taobao sellers gave away two stickers of other countries inside. The kind you can stick on your face, and then she threw those two stickers 😂
Just one word : Muslim , foreign or other religions living in China is safest and most happiest in the world. Xinjiang lives matter As an Indian I fully support China Xinjiang too ❤️❤️❤️❤️. @Eric PengFrom your comment alone, l I feel like you don’t know much about the Muslims in China. I would suggest you watch some videos of Chinese Muslim youtubers or vloggers to learn more about them.
To be honest, you really don’t understand China, and I can’t blame you. After all, you have never been to China. You are welcome to travel to China. Going to see it will change your current opinion. I don’t want to refute you. Let’s talk about dumplings. , Chinese dumplings have different fillings, the most common ones are pork filling, shiitake mushroom filling, leek filling, cabbage filling, and there are many other materials you want to mix. You can go to your local Chinese supermarket to inquire about this. knew. So, you really don't understand China. I am also a minority, called the Shui nationality, with my own culture and writing. The country has established an intangible cultural heritage to protect the writing and inheritance of our Shui nationality. An old lady of our Shui nationality was personally interviewed by Mao Zedong. So China is better than any other country in protecting the traditional culture of ethnic minorities. My hometown is Sandu Shui Autonomous County, Guizhou Province. You can check it on Baidu or Google.
In addition, Muslims in big cities in China are very secular, and many Muslims are not different from other ethnic groups except that they do not eat pork, so we can all be friends and there is no barrier. I once even had a Hui girl as a girlfriend!
Barrett, as a Chinese living in Hong Kong we really appreciate all the video you do for China to help more westerns to know the true China is.! Thank you so much and wish you all the best. Thank you 🙏🏻
@Eric Peng why don't you do this interview with these millions of Muslims, instead of repeating the same accusations we've heard on mass media without any substantial and verifiable proof? Doesn't it bother you that you have one finger always pointing at others while four other fingers pointing at you? I think most people like you are only projecting their inner mindset on other people. Prior to visiting China, I also had a wrong impression about China, but after my visit, it became apparent to me that our western governments are merely spreading propaganda. Free your mind and find your humanity once again, it will help you and the entire world to promote peace and co-existance.
@Eric Peng It may not be the perfect choice. But it doesn't legitimize the message in this video. The very fact that she is a Muslim and works for CGTN speaks a lot. It is important that she speaks the truth from the point of view of a Muslim living in China, in respect to what kind of work she does. I guess that Lee chose her because of the convenience of the location (together in a conference) and ease of communication (she is fluent English speaker)
In China, ethnic minorities get much more preferential treatment than Han Chinese, I am from Tianjin, there is a big Hui settlement in Tianjin, and there are very many Halal restaurants, the Halal restaurants in Tianjin are really, really good! I hope you can visit Tianjin!
Hi Barrett, among all your amazing videos, I love this the most. I am also a minority (not Islamic though) in China and grow up in northwestern China. My family and I have all kinds of minority friends, and we just get along with each other. Even more interesting regarding the Mosque, there are many in my hometown. During the pray day, since there are so many believers, the government block a road to take care of the overflow of people. Not only don't we destroy Mosque, but we also think they are landmarks of the city~! People, seriously, if you have not been to China, do not judge us~! If you have to judge us, at least do your duo diligence to visit China so that you can judge us on the right spot~!
I live in Australia and have a Chinese Muslim friend from Qinghai China, I asked her about the treatment of the Muslim in China, she said the Muslim are teated better than the Han people, they get free education, free health and allowed to have more than 1 child.

China prides itself with its ethnic minority policies. When the one-child policy was introduced in 1979, the 55 ethnic minorities in China were exempted from it, and were allowed to have more than one child, while the majority Han under the policy was only allowed one child. The ethnic minorities are allowed a lower score for university intakes than the majority Han. There are 5 self-autonomy provinces, 77 self-autonomy states, and 705 self-autonomy counties in China. In these administrative regions where there are substantial number of minorities, the chief officer has to be one from the local ethnic minorities. Street signs have to be written in both Mandarin and the local languages. In schools, the ethnical languages are taught along with Mandarin. Now, where are the lands of the Pueblos, Navajo, Hopi, and Mojave tribes in North America? And who rule the states of the aborigines in Australia? The world should learn how to protect the ethic minorities like China!
Great in-depth knowledge, thanks Ms Abby for telling the world but the west choose to ignore the real facts of China. They don't want to understand that China one child policy only for the Han Chinese. The other 56 minority enjoys extra privileges. This Western world have a failed so call democratic system. Yet they want to force it on to other countries. They always shout about human rights, they have killed , murdered millions and millions of people including women and children on all the countries they have invaded. They also shout about Xinjiang force labour. China should bring them to ICJ for their Atrocities and Genocide for their " "FORCE DEMOCRACY" on to others. USA , UK, CANADA, AUSTRALIA and those western COLONISERS should be trial for genocides.👺👿👹☠️

The main reason why the USA western media falsely accuses CHINA of mistreating Uyghur Muslims is because they want to prevent the 1.6 Billion Chinese worldwide and 2.0 Billion Muslims from working together. Both these groups have been discriminated by USA and the WEST for decades and are more likely to work together. Chinese & Muslim nations working together will lead to US losing its dominance of the world. Plus this will gain Asia, Russia, Eastern Europe and African support too including the rest of the world such as Latin America.

I grew up in Tianjin as well, thank you for sharing your experiences, very relatable. The city is known for having a huge Hui minority population which has had deep influences on our culture, cuisine, etc. Growing up I always had many Hui classmates and friends, among other ethnic minorities, and everyone was just living their own happy lives. There was never a concept of Han vs. other ethnicities until the West came in and started this anti-China campaign. We are all just Chinese.
So proud of her in hearing she said she's proud to be Muslin Chinese. Whereas in the West and States some of the Chinese are refused to acknowledge their roots, so as the little HK and Taiwan, so sad. BTW, this interview should be broadcasted by major medias like, BBC and CNN, don't you think? Great job about this interview, keep up the great work!

I had Muslim class mates in all schools I attended in China, some of these Muslim classmates I still keep in touch on wechat. They are just having normal life like Han Chinese except I remember as minority they did get some special financial benefits from government as well as extra points when applying for university. They were indeed allowed to have 2 children during the time of one child policy. Since we were in primary school we were told that all ethnic groups in China were sisters and brothers and were equal. Western media are not telling the truth, they are so powerful and successful in telling lies and brainwashing people on the Muslim issues in China, this world is just mad and unbelievable.

Yes, you are quite right. When I was in college, there is an islamic canteen for muslims. The working stuff of that canteen also are muslims. It's allowed nonmusilms to eat inside and totally respect their habits eg. no outside food taken inside and no pork.
Having ethnic minorities in our daily lives is NEVER an issue. It is just a normal thing to have. That idea of distinguishing the “minorities” vs “majority” on daily basis (or even become someone’s most important identity) is so foreign and un-natural. I’ve had Miao 苗, Hui 回, Uighur 维吾尔,Chaoxian 朝鲜, Meng 蒙, Man 满 classmates through out my school years, never had anyone made a fuss about it. We all knew about it, and respect their respective cultures, but this aspect is never a centrepiece (or anywhere near to it) of any of our relationships. It seems to me that Western countries (US especially) love to projecting their own social problems on to China. They have the tendency of splitting ppl into different categories (whether it is the race, the religion, or anything else), so they maybe thought, “oh, China must be also doing this!” It is just absurd.
The west have been known to use divide and conquer technique for centuries on lands that they colonized. They know they will not succeed if the people of the land unite against them. There are so many examples though out the mankind history. And US is using the same method again. They tried to create problems in HK, and Taiwan and Xinjiang. They will not stop for sure.
growing up in China, I had no thoughts about ethics minorities. The "difference" between han and others were not even a topic. The equity mindset is deep in Chinese mind. However, until I traveled and studied aboard I realized there is such thing called "racism" in other country. To me, it's already very ignorant and childish and uncivilized to even make it a topic to discuss.

Love your videos Barrett! Regarding minorities, I would like to share something: because the policy is preferable, quite a lot of Chinese choose to register as a minority instead of Han when they are qualified for both. One example being my best friend from uni, she is 1/4 minority (a group called Man) and she chose to register Man as the race in her ID card. Also her parents, as a Man family, have three children, while Han family like mine only has one. Therefore I was shocked when some western media says China “genocide” the minorities. It is just so insane that I don’t know where to start the correction.
This is a lovely interview Lee, very relaxed. One of my wife's best friends is a Mongolian Muslim from Inner Mongolia, Hohhot, she speaks exactly the same way as Abby and has exactly the same experiences - She's currently back in Hohhot, but next time she's in Zhongshan, I will sit down and put the camera on her for a similar discussion. Like Abby, for her it's more dietary and lifestyle rather than religion but she did confide in me once that she hopes she can marry a Muslim man too. On our travels through Ningxia and Gansu we met Hui Muslims every single day. In fact Ningxia isn't even a province its properly called the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and there are mosques in every little town and village.
@@autumnicleaf Indeed there are many, the Northern border of Ningxia, which is a Hui Autonomous region, and the Southern border of Inner Mongolia is a very fluid area people from both regions mix and mingle. @@jerrygrey5606- If you do ask her, please post your finds. So little is known about Chinese, now Mongolian Muslims to the outside world. Despite being a minority, they played a major part, as far as I know, in critical phases of Chinese history. I believe, at least 3 of 4 Chinese generals who led the Ming army against the Yuan, were Muslims; but their were many Muslims who also fought for the Yuan. Many fought in the Boxer rebellion also, and great admiral Zheng Hu (Chung Ho) was also a Muslim.
In 1980s, I've been to Xian, Beijing....I find lots of Muslim resturants there. It's interesting to me, cause I've never seen one in Hong Kong. Also, I find lots of muslim books in the bookstore, I've brought one which was some teaching and advise to the daily life of Muslims, to maintain ones health, harmony in family and society, and peacefulness in ones mind. It was scientific, kind and mild. My knowledge and respect to Muslims was started in China.
There are at least 3 mosques in HK. Used to be a few thousand Chinese Muslims few decades ago. Seems that the newer generations became more and more assimilated.
I traveled to Gansu 5 years ago and had such a great time eating halal food. The Muslim minority there seemed to be well integrated. I had no worries mingling with them.
Minorities in many countries are “encouraged” / “forced” to give up their culture and practices. In China, minorities are encouraged to continue with their cultures and practices and are well respected by the Han Chinese and the government. That’s how minorities should be allowed to live.
Canada finally admitted to genocide of their native people. In the most recent disclosure, more than 200 children were taken away from their parents and placed in a school where they were abused, raped and died under white colonialists.

China's ethnic policy is the best in the world, not one of them. This policy is not a temporary remedy or bribery, but to promote the understanding and integration of various ethnic groups. This stems from China's long history of national exchanges and integration, and the West is still very barbaric compared to Chinese civilization. It's normal to be unable to understand and face up.

A great video! Hello Abby! Great to see the good policies of my beloved country which shows high respect for the ethic minorities, support and love from Hong Kong, China,
I lived in Beijing. There is a street name is "cattle street" "牛街”. Most residents are "Hui". "Hui" is a general name for Muslim's in Chinese . My familie still go to the street to buy lamb sheets for hot pot. We believe the lamb sold over there is the best. I grew up in a court yard in Beijing and have a neighbour lived at our next-door, they are Hui. We are still friend. I still remember my mom put vegetables on pork top to cover it when she was back from shopping pass their door. I still remember what my mom said when I asked why: " Show respect to their religion. Hui doesn't eat port. Carrying pork in front of them is not right. respect others, others will respect us". That is how Chinese respect each other even they have different belief.
Wow! I'm a Muslim American, and will admit, as much as I distrust the mainstream media, I bought a bit into the 'Chinese Anti-Muslim' narrative. We know ALL groups of people have some bad doing things, so there could be some areas where there is mistreatment, but they are trying to make it seem like it's all of China. I feel much better hearing this woman's story. I think deep down, most of us are able to co-exist with each other, even while disagreeing, because we all want similar things in life! Happiness, good health, wealth, safety, and freedom to worship what we choose. Thanks for sharing this! (I do have to mention that I was questioning why all of a sudden the Western powers were so worried about Muslims with this specific coverage? lol)
Very easy. Xinjiang’s oil fields are of great interest to the US. Follow the oil trail and you will find the answer. Easter Ukraine has oil and when Donbas region voted for independence in 2014, it led to regime change and the bombing of this part by subsequent regimes and esp during Zelensky the comedian’s watch he did not hesitate to systematically bomb out this part. After Russia stepped in, Zelensky immediately signed oil fields away to Exxon Mobil and large swathes of properties to Black Rock. In Xinjiang, US sponsors 4 terrorist organisations to destabilise Xinjiang while using MSM disinformation to malign China. Ever wondered why the great Muslim nations in Middle East including UN have all gone to Xinjiang and found no evidence of ethnic oppression.

In China, Mandarin is national language. It just normal to teach national language. Mother tongue could be a subject specific to the kid interest..
Appreciate your sincerity,. I was in Taiwan for many years and the attitudes their are the same as you describe... Thank you!
they want to split up the identities and create unrest within china due to weakened unity. HK is a prime example.

The reality is it doesn't cost them a dime! You can interview anyone on the street and they would willing to share information with you. All this ccp paid crap is just a sign that they are running out of reason to argue.

Ever wondered why the great Muslim nations in Middle East including UN have all gone to Xinjiang and found no evidence of ethnic oppression.
