A kid at school in the late 70s or early 80s had a Grifter from new. It looked quite revolutionary to the rest of us and I think we were a liitle envious. I had a single speed Raleigh something (Concord?) which was my school transport but I fancied a Grifter. Still, any single speed is fairly cool these days. Weird innit? Good for you mate, nice ‘hugge’ vid, 🤙🏽
nice one ive just finished a 1964 moulton Deluxe looked like it was stored in a land fill for the last 40 yrs but time and elbow grease managed to sort it over lockdown
Awesome video, I would suggest that next time you’re trying to remove corrosion from wheels you try acetic acid in a tub of water and let it sit, works magic if the chrome is still good underneath the rust
Hi Hugo, I'm glad you liked the video. Thanks for that suggestion, I will try that soon. Thanks also for your comment, it makes all the difference getting a response from people, cheers Joe.
Thank you Rick, the more the merrier! We use a wire brush wheel and we have three different polishing wheels too, we use a polishing soap on the polishing wheels. We also do some work by hand and we use the tin foil trick to restore chrome. I hope this helps, cheers Joe.
Great video looking forward to part 3!! I'm about to start a grifter restoration so looking for all the help and guidance to get it looking like new. 👍 Have the silver version to start on! If i shot blasted the frame do you know a spray that will colour match the original silver grifter finish??
Hi Adam, just getting ready to do part 3, Glad you liked one and two. I have a silver one too and I used a volkswagen silver on that which looks great. Cheers Joe.
@@JoesBikesUK volks silver! Thanks mate. Long way from spraying yet. First stage, strip down componets and de-rust! I will try to log it with some pics.
Hi Kev, I like the bronze too but could not get a rattle can match. I saw a blue I liked so went for that, when I sprayed it It was a different colour than I thought it would be!! But I really prefer it, totally by accident, I hope you like what we have done ;-)
Hi Joe that silver grifter I picked up yesterday wasn't bad at all the tyres took air allthough need replacing and I even rode it and both brakes worked but is rusty and tired so the strip down started today. Can you be a bit more specific about the volkwagen silver paint you used?! Looking forward to part 3 and hope your hand is OK? Am just about to subscribe cheers 🥂.
@@JoesBikesUK hi Joe I'm sorry to keep pestering you but when you were getting the frame ready for sandblasting?? You put a sticker over the raleigh badge at the front where do you get them from please? I'm off early Sat morning to pick up a mk1 red grifter in really good condition I've really got the bug now.... Lol 😂 cheers 🥂
@@JoesBikesUK hi Joe yes that would be great!! How do I send you my details? Picked up the red mk1 this morning am over the moon with it ended up paying £80 for it, was out riding it today everything works all it needed was a bit of light cleaning. Cheers 🥂
Hi Rory, yes we could have removed the thimbles but decided to repair them on the fork. If we took them off after that they would be in a poor state and need replacing and we wanted to keep it as original as possible. We could also remove the crest but that's a bit of a faff and wanted to show us sandblasting around it, cheers Joe.
I'm getting to that one in the next couple of weeks. Sorry I'ts taken so long, I've had some surgery on my hand which as slowed things down a little. chees Joe.
Interesting project! Where's part 3?
You are doing a great job on the grifter. I also love your collection of choppers I see I’m the background of the video
Thanks dude, cheers Joe.

@@JoesBikesUK Thank you Joe, yes I'm fine, I also wish you good health and work is going well, especially a lot of work! Be happy!👍🚴♀️🍀

Another mesmeric video! Just asking, could you restore this old grifter as well as the one you are doing....just wondering ;)
That's the plan!
Thought you might have gone for the early bronze colour Joe?
Think the majority where blue or red.

Crinkle up some aluminium foil and clean the rust with that.
