That was fun! Met my wonderful wife of 47 years now when I was working as a bicycle shop mechanic. Her sister and brother-in-law bought her a Miyata for her birthday, when she came back with it for the 2-week tune-up, it was love at first sight, and it still is!
What a great story, I met my wife in my shop🧡
I'm preparing to open my first local bike shop in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I've had this intention for a long time, but your channel has inspired me and helped me be bolder to fulfill this wish. Always follow and support your channel.
from Bike Holic shop, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
That’s really great to hear! We both wish you all the best of luck, let us know how it goes 🧡
You guys must be very proud of yourselves. Thanks to you, people on the other side of the world are being inspired to follow their bicycle dreams. Every one of your videos makes me wanna work on bikes. Thank you, @bikespeeds. Never stop! @@Bikespeeds
This could be your best one yet, absolutely brilliant ! I'm especially impressed by you being able to source contemporary replacement parts, I can't find a Potenza chain ring these days.
A lucky eBay find for us! Thanks as always 🧡⚙️
What I really like about this is that you cleaned and polished/protected the original frame. So much better than respraying and trying to make a classic bike look like new. It looks like what it is ... a lovingly and respectfully restored bike.
Thanks very much! That’s always our philosophy, we have another vintage Raleigh rebuild coming out tonight if you’re interested 🧡⚙️
Gentlemen, it was worth the wait. You have that ability to restore forgotten bikes into museum pieces. Thanks for your miracles.
Thank you Marc! After another hard two weeks we should have a vintage one coming out tonight or tomorrow, it’s uploading as we speak!🧡
There is something about restoring and servicing bikes that fascinates me. It has been my hobby for 35 years.. This bike came up great!!!
We completely agree! Thanks for all the support!🧡
This looks so good, normally gold chains look naff on bikes but given the manufacturers colour scheme it really ties the whole bike together. I don't normally gush over older bikes but I would cherish this if it was mine.
Love these old Raleigh restorations... in the 70s / 80s they were real "parts bin specials", no concept of a "groupset"... my 82 Europa Team TI replica came with Raleigh / SR crankset bars and stem, Campag rear derailleur, SunRace front Derailleur, Shimano shifters, Weinmann brakes, SunTour freewheel block (14-24), and (probably) Maillard hubs with chrome steel rims. I upgraded to a Campag front mech and Campag hubs with Mavic MA40 rims (and new brake blocks for alloy rims) and it's a fabulous ride !
This is exactly what we talked about as we did it, Exactly!🧡
👍 Here we go! Another awesome service! Cheers from Brazil.
Much love Saka🧡🫵🏻⚙️
This might be one of the greatest bike builds/restorations I've ever seen here on youtube! What a pleasure to watch🔥💪
Wow that’s very kind thank you! We really appreciate it🧡
Amazing how well the brake calipers cleaned up. I can just about remember dreaming over pictures of this bike, maybe in the Argos catalogue.
Seems we all did! Thanks for watching🧡
I remember wanting his bike as a kid! Never got it, great to see it again.
We all did lol! Thanks for watching🧡
👍I do enjoy the older bike rebuilds.
Thanks James we’re hopefully releasing one tonight or tomorrow, after 4 weeks of straight vintage we’ll hopefully have some easy videos coming out soon!🧡
I can watch this forever. It looks beautiful at the end!!
Thank you Tom! We too enjoyed this one🧡⚙️
Oh yeah! Super work! Can watch your videos all day. So much to learn!
Thank you! That’s a great compliment🧡
Wow! Now that bike takes me back... got the exact bike for my 13th birthday back in 1986, very fond memories of trips out with mates🙂 great job 👍
Glad you enjoyed this one for that reason! Thanks for watching🧡
Worth waiting an extra week for😊
Thanks Barry! We have another one hopefully worth the wait tonight or tomorrow!🧡
I’m super stoked that you left the original patina on the frame and didn’t repaint it🤙🏽🤘🏽👊🏽💯
That’s our philosophy! Thanks for watching 🧡
WOW! Addicted to watching this fella at work.
Thank you! We really appreciate the support🧡
Just love these old bikes, I just got one this summer and it was so much fun to go through and work on it. Bang up job.
That’s great! We love when we do a video that you guys have the bike for 🧡
Wow, what a fabulous looking bike , old school.
Love watching bike speeds.
Thank you Roy we really appreciate it!🧡
Cracking job getting the beatuty back into riding condition.
Thanks very much!🧡
That’s a bike I would be proud to ride! I like the patina on the tubes showing signs of wear.
As do we! Thanks for watching and commenting 🧡
Great job You too simon love older restoration 😎
Thank you Murphy!🧡
Bikespeeds….The best on TH-cam no question.Awesome work as always.🙏A measure to watch.
Not had A Racer since my Puch free spirit 10speed that both myself and my brother had 1 each brand new when I was about 13yrs old in 1978 with the Gear Shifter handles on the handlebars which was different so this one is good to see.
Then Skateboards took over and god knows what happened to mine and my brothers bikes🤷♂️
Weird as you get older you wish you had kept just about everything you remember fondly growing up.I remember also having a Carlton 10Speed Racer that I put Cow Horn Handlebars on and ruining a good bike just so I could do wheelies and conform to what all my mates did with their bikes.
Regards from Geordieland 🇬🇧
Great to read the story there, we agree it’s funny the things you put meaning too later. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for all the support🧡
another exceptional resoration one of the best videos yet.
We really appreciate it thanks very much🧡
i've watched every restoration video on this channel, there were other old bikes like this before, but this one might be my favorite, maybe it's because of the gold parts.
The bike was just great! We agree with you there, this one and the green triumph🧡
Lovely job. I never miss a post.
Thanks Bob it really means a lot to us 🧡⚙️
These are my favorite kinds of videos that you do. Love seeing the transformation!
Thanks! We have one coming out tonight or tomorrow so it’s a double whammy of vintage!🧡
The yellow Claud Butler was terrific! I love the reverence you have for those old bikes:!
Watching this makes me so relaxed, thank you!
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching🧡
What a pleasure to see this old Raleigh Gold Edition restored so nicely. You’ve done it justice as it turned out beautifully! Well done!
Very kind thank you!🧡
I had one of these for years and years! Loved it!
I wish you'd put rust converter on though. It would've made the rust turn black and blend in better.
My husband had the exact same bike back in 82, sadly his was stolen complete with the bike lock lol. Lovely to see this.
Gutter! Glad you enjoyed this one specifically though 🧡
Thank you Simon.
Much appreciated, from Simon🧡⚙️
NOW that’s a great job buddy 👍🇬🇧
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it🧡
Absolutely , beautiful restoration. Thanks. KB
Thanks Ken! We appreciate it🧡
I love the gold pieces
This is like therapy for me 🧘♂️
Glad you enjoyed it 🧡
The was the funniest statement I heard in a while when you said the saddle was a little bit worse for wear 🤣
It’s seen better days lol!🧡
Love it guys, bravo! I love bikes but have no real interest in vintage/classics - however watching anything tired, old and dirty being restored I can watch all day.
Haha yes we’re with you, we have another one on the way then back to some road bikes for a while🧡
I've just subscribed the other day, and have since been inspired to repack all my loose-ball bearing hubs!
Haha enjoy all your time working on your bikes and thanks very much for joining us 🧡
Beautiful bike , nice job 👍
Thanks very much 🧡
A work of art!!
Absolutely brilliant restoration to keep the bike on the road, and well done Simon for producing another great video.
Thank you Paul!🧡
When will people stop confusing restorations with rebuilds or reconditions? This was not restored. For example; what point is there in putting new bearings in a rusted and pitted headset? Waste of brand new bearings.
Yes, more restorations, please. Love the little touches that turned this into a beauty. Well done Lee and Simon.
We are yet again missing a week and going straight to another one!🧡
Good job Simon!
Thank you very much! from Simon🧡
Erstklassige Arbeit! Wunderschönes Rad!👍👍
Thanks Thomas!🧡
Thoroughly enjoy watching your videos...thank you ole chap ; )
Glad to hear it🧡⚙️
Brilliant. Just brilliant. Bike looks FAB.
Thanks very much!🧡
Absolutely mega job on this one! The patina looks just right after the polish and ceramic spray!
Well done to Simon on a great edit, the quality gets better all the time!
Thank you Patrick from Simon!🧡
Wonderful to see an older Raletgh come back to life. When I was in school in the mid 1970's I worked at a Raleigh shop here in the States for two summers. I owned a Super Course and then an International. The owner of the shop was able to get a MKM (Metcalfe) frame for me and most of the parts from the International went over to it. Great times.
That’s awesome! We love a classic Raleigh story!🧡
My word, that is one unbelievable restoration. That gold really does pop once it was cleaned. Great work both Lee and Simon 😎
Also thanks for sending the brushes out to me, will use them the next time I wash my bike 🇫🇮😎
Thanks Dean it’s been a great interaction, these have been the highlights of the TH-cam journey🧡
Wauw you did amazing the bike looks beautiful
Thanks very much!🧡
I loved watching this one. Thank you for uploading 1️⃣🙏🙏
Thanks David!🧡
I think it would be great if you and Simon filmed a live restoration, I don't mean live on youtube just film it as you go without editing and music, part 1, 2, 3 etc
Absolutely amazing restoration! I'm amazed of how much attention you are putting into details in your work. This project is one of your best ones so far, if not THE BEST. And that groupset is a gem. It goes to show the quality of build of those vintage components. Pleasure to look at it!
We really appreciate all the kind words thank you!🧡
Loving the older restorations guys
Thanks very much for the support Adrian🧡
Thanks for your efforts! These full rebuilds of older bikes are my favorite!
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoy them🧡
Oh boy did this bring memories of my first drop handlebar bike, back in the early eighties. What a beauty and well done on bringing it back to life. Class.
That’s great to hear! Seems we’re all nostalgic over this era!🧡
Amazing work and lovely bike.
Thanks very much for watching 🧡
Wonderful work! I'm so pleased that there are others out there who value the vintage bikes and don't summarily change out components just because they're old. Thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed it! We’re with you there! Thanks very much Adam🧡
Well done guys. Great job.
Nice job there. Love the way you have kept the originality of this model - that is a proper restoration 🙂
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it🧡
Thank you so much Simon for a lovely video, you don't have an Idea how relaxing it is watch this gorgeous Restauration video, big Kudos for both of you, what impressed me was the fact that those brake pads still selling them waoooo, until the next Wednesday
Thanks for all the kind support 🧡
Even made all the cable ends the same length 👌👌 outstanding!!
Thanks for watching Mario we appreciate the support!🧡
Lovely job ,
Can’t help but think of what that bike looked like when the new owner walked in the bike shop and saw those gold parts gleaming against the black gloss paint
He’s yet to pick it up so we’re as eager as you are 🧡
Fabulous job. Love the work you do on the vintage bikes. More please.
After another hard two weeks we should have a vintage one coming out tonight or tomorrow, it’s uploading as we speak!🧡
Very enjoyable video. Like these old restorations the best. I have two early 80s 531ST frame Raleigh Randonneurs. One from new, and one from a Marketplace find that I restored to ‘as new’ but keeping original paint.
That’s the best of both worlds! After another hard two weeks we should have a vintage one coming out tonight or tomorrow, it’s uploading as we speak!🧡
Absolutely glorious. I know these vintage bikes take a load of effort - I promise you it's very much appreciated. Well done gents 👊
Worth it for the support thank you🧡⚙️
You can't beat the mechanical principals of a good old bike from this period. It's really pleasing on the eye and quite therapeutic to watch how you go through the process of cleaning and re-lubricating all the moving parts. It is something I do quite often in my garage too so I can appreciate the work you are showing us on this video today.
Nice one Bike speeds...
Enjoy all your time in your garage and we’ll see you again soon on the channel! Thanks for all the support 🧡
What a beauty. Thank you Simon and Lee.
Thank you Rodney!🧡
0:15 I see the Brooks saddle was nicely broken in!
Lol!🧡
I bought one of these from my mums catalogue, I've been looking for one of these for ages! Well done, good job!
Enjoy it! Thanks for watching🧡
Lovely restoration

One of my favourites, yet! Job well done. Chain set came out nice. Good call on the tyres too.
Thank you Charlie! Glad you enjoyed this one 🧡
Great stuff. I’m working on a 1985, England Manufactured, Grand Prix. A little rough, but fortunately neglected in a dry climate
Best of luck!🧡⚙️
