That was fun! Met my wonderful wife of 47 years now when I was working as a bicycle shop mechanic. Her sister and brother-in-law bought her a Miyata for her birthday, when she came back with it for the 2-week tune-up, it was love at first sight, and it still is!
I'm preparing to open my first local bike shop in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I've had this intention for a long time, but your channel has inspired me and helped me be bolder to fulfill this wish. Always follow and support your channel. from Bike Holic shop, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
You guys must be very proud of yourselves. Thanks to you, people on the other side of the world are being inspired to follow their bicycle dreams. Every one of your videos makes me wanna work on bikes. Thank you, @bikespeeds. Never stop! @@Bikespeeds
This could be your best one yet, absolutely brilliant ! I'm especially impressed by you being able to source contemporary replacement parts, I can't find a Potenza chain ring these days.
This looks so good, normally gold chains look naff on bikes but given the manufacturers colour scheme it really ties the whole bike together. I don't normally gush over older bikes but I would cherish this if it was mine.
Love these old Raleigh restorations... in the 70s / 80s they were real "parts bin specials", no concept of a "groupset"... my 82 Europa Team TI replica came with Raleigh / SR crankset bars and stem, Campag rear derailleur, SunRace front Derailleur, Shimano shifters, Weinmann brakes, SunTour freewheel block (14-24), and (probably) Maillard hubs with chrome steel rims. I upgraded to a Campag front mech and Campag hubs with Mavic MA40 rims (and new brake blocks for alloy rims) and it's a fabulous ride !
What I really like about this is that you cleaned and polished/protected the original frame. So much better than respraying and trying to make a classic bike look like new. It looks like what it is ... a lovingly and respectfully restored bike.
@@Bikespeeds Hi Simon , like the video , I had one of these in the 80's , so couldn't resist buying a Prototype Raleigh Record 2 , Carbon framed special , was on show at the NEC but missing since 1998 were it was sold to a private collector , I swopped an SL Columbus and £1500 cash for it , amazing bike , stopped the club meet last week in Birmingham everyone was amazed it exists still ! Has Mike Burrows carbon spoked wheelset ( TCR ) 7800 Dura Ace now but think it was 7700 when built .....
Bikespeeds….The best on TH-cam no question.Awesome work as always.🙏A measure to watch. Not had A Racer since my Puch free spirit 10speed that both myself and my brother had 1 each brand new when I was about 13yrs old in 1978 with the Gear Shifter handles on the handlebars which was different so this one is good to see. Then Skateboards took over and god knows what happened to mine and my brothers bikes🤷♂️ Weird as you get older you wish you had kept just about everything you remember fondly growing up.I remember also having a Carlton 10Speed Racer that I put Cow Horn Handlebars on and ruining a good bike just so I could do wheelies and conform to what all my mates did with their bikes. Regards from Geordieland 🇬🇧
Love it guys, bravo! I love bikes but have no real interest in vintage/classics - however watching anything tired, old and dirty being restored I can watch all day.
Thanks James we’re hopefully releasing one tonight or tomorrow, after 4 weeks of straight vintage we’ll hopefully have some easy videos coming out soon!🧡
Oh boy did this bring memories of my first drop handlebar bike, back in the early eighties. What a beauty and well done on bringing it back to life. Class.
When will people stop confusing restorations with rebuilds or reconditions? This was not restored. For example; what point is there in putting new bearings in a rusted and pitted headset? Waste of brand new bearings.
Thank you so much Simon for a lovely video, you don't have an Idea how relaxing it is watch this gorgeous Restauration video, big Kudos for both of you, what impressed me was the fact that those brake pads still selling them waoooo, until the next Wednesday
Absolutely mega job on this one! The patina looks just right after the polish and ceramic spray! Well done to Simon on a great edit, the quality gets better all the time!
Wonderful work! I'm so pleased that there are others out there who value the vintage bikes and don't summarily change out components just because they're old. Thank you so much!
My word, that is one unbelievable restoration. That gold really does pop once it was cleaned. Great work both Lee and Simon 😎 Also thanks for sending the brushes out to me, will use them the next time I wash my bike 🇫🇮😎
i've watched every restoration video on this channel, there were other old bikes like this before, but this one might be my favorite, maybe it's because of the gold parts.
Absolutely amazing restoration! I'm amazed of how much attention you are putting into details in your work. This project is one of your best ones so far, if not THE BEST. And that groupset is a gem. It goes to show the quality of build of those vintage components. Pleasure to look at it!
Wonderful to see an older Raletgh come back to life. When I was in school in the mid 1970's I worked at a Raleigh shop here in the States for two summers. I owned a Super Course and then an International. The owner of the shop was able to get a MKM (Metcalfe) frame for me and most of the parts from the International went over to it. Great times.
I think it would be great if you and Simon filmed a live restoration, I don't mean live on youtube just film it as you go without editing and music, part 1, 2, 3 etc
Beautiful! Really enjoy watching you at your craft, love the attention to detail and your organised style, fantastic results and I LOVE to see an old Raleigh, they are a great ride, thank you for sharing!!
You can't beat the mechanical principals of a good old bike from this period. It's really pleasing on the eye and quite therapeutic to watch how you go through the process of cleaning and re-lubricating all the moving parts. It is something I do quite often in my garage too so I can appreciate the work you are showing us on this video today. Nice one Bike speeds...
Lovely job , Can’t help but think of what that bike looked like when the new owner walked in the bike shop and saw those gold parts gleaming against the black gloss paint
I smiled throughout the entire show. What a lovely bike you brought back from the dead! Well worth the wait 🤩🥳. And yes, those older brakes can be a pain; I remember having to push and pull the outer in order to keep the rear one centered on my first bike. Thanks again for another great video! 🚲
Lovely job. Well done. I picked up some tips like the off cut of cable with end crimps used as a cable measure 👍 I’ll def be buying some grease and detail brushes. Thanks guys 🙌
Very enjoyable video. Like these old restorations the best. I have two early 80s 531ST frame Raleigh Randonneurs. One from new, and one from a Marketplace find that I restored to ‘as new’ but keeping original paint.
Hi Rupert! Would you believe it we have 3 lined up on the way, one hopefully next week but that’s gonna be many 12 hour days to get there so could be the week after! Thanks for the support🧡

Amazing work and lovely bike.
Thanks very much for watching 🧡
Honestly, I find these bikes way more elegant than new ones. Especially the front logo. What a job! Only the pedals I would change.
Gentlemen, it was worth the wait. You have that ability to restore forgotten bikes into museum pieces. Thanks for your miracles.
Thank you Marc! After another hard two weeks we should have a vintage one coming out tonight or tomorrow, it’s uploading as we speak!🧡

There is something about restoring and servicing bikes that fascinates me. It has been my hobby for 35 years.. This bike came up great!!!

I remember wanting his bike as a kid! Never got it, great to see it again.
We all did lol! Thanks for watching🧡
I really wanted one too, had to settle for the Raleigh Equipe and pretending I was on Channel4 riding the Kellogg's City Centre races!
Amazing how well the brake calipers cleaned up. I can just about remember dreaming over pictures of this bike, maybe in the Argos catalogue.
Seems we all did! Thanks for watching🧡
WOW! Addicted to watching this fella at work.
Thank you! We really appreciate the support🧡
Wow! Now that bike takes me back... got the exact bike for my 13th birthday back in 1986, very fond memories of trips out with mates🙂 great job 👍

I’m super stoked that you left the original patina on the frame and didn’t repaint it🤙🏽🤘🏽👊🏽💯

I had one of these for years and years! Loved it!
I wish you'd put rust converter on though. It would've made the rust turn black and blend in better.
