    This, by far, is the BEST example I’ve seen of the gel printing process. Beautiful work. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing your work. I’ve never been more inspired to start this style of art. Someone on Instagram said you could make a killing teaching your art; sign me up if you ever decide to teach!

    One question. Do you use special paper for the drawing? Or is it just a printer printout? Thanks! Your work is excellent!

    • @junkykid_art
      @junkykid_art  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use laser print outs for my image transfers. Needs to be a laser print, not inkjet for this process to work. The other trick is to print in color of a very high contrast image.

    Hi! I love your work and was inspired to buy a gel plate. I am having a problem and wonder if you can help? I used an entirely black and white only image printed on a laser printer. I printed it twice, and the image revealed on the gel plate after pressing on the printed image was as is in your video. However, transferring the image from the gel plate onto the surface didn't work. I did as you did and left it under a book for half an hour. The image transferred a bit, but is bare visible. What did I do wrong?

    Where do you get your images from, for the Gelli plate transfer? Are they photos you take yourself?

  • @fishcrow9474
    @fishcrow9474 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How do you get the image to show up on the plate so cleanly. Mine is always a mess

    • @junkykid_art
      @junkykid_art  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It takes some practice, but like anything it's practice and finding what works for you. Paint and the right print out is most important, but timing and pressure is also something to play around with. Golden Fluid paints works really well for me. I'm currently mixing Golden Fluid with Amsterdam and Liquitex heavy body acrylics. Good Luck!

    So when I pull the paper image off the gel a lot of paint stays behind in the white areas. Any tips to stop that from happening?

  • @GarthOwens
    @GarthOwens ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is the Matte medium at the end for sealing?

    • @junkykid_art
      @junkykid_art  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's used reactivate the dried paint on the gel plate and get it to stick to the paper, because of it's clear drying nature it's used instead of pigmented paint. Otherwise you can use a layer of paint, but for this instance and didn't want to cover up the colors I already laid down.

    Awesome stuff, and you elevate the plate to an Art Form. Do you think it makes a difference if you use your print immediately, or if you let the Laser Print sit for a while/days?

    • @junkykid_art
      @junkykid_art  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I usually just wait till it’s dry, so I can add a wet pulling layer of paint or gel medium. It doesn’t need to sit longer, if that makes sense. I just wanted to demonstrate both techniques into one video and mono print. 👍

    DOPE Work as usual! I have a question what kind of paper are you using? Bristol? and would a non laser printed image work or does it work better with laser printed material only?

    • @junkykid_art
      @junkykid_art  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Yup, Bristol paper. It either has to be laser print toner based or most magazines will work too. The basic science behind it is to have have something that resist paint. The reason why the paint is left on the plate is the toner acts like a barrier, so the paint doesn't stick and only sticks to the paper leaving the paint on the gel plate. So waxy crayons on paper will resist paint to stick to it and leaves the paint on the plate. Hope this makes sense.

    Hi! Your videos have inspired me to try the gel plate process, but I'm having some trouble! I printed my art with a laser printer, but It won't transfer onto the plate (all the paint stays on the paper). What type of printer paper are you using for the laser prints? Any other ideas or suggestions?

    • @junkykid_art
      @junkykid_art  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Awesome! Glad to hear it! I’ve been having success with Golden Fluid Acrylic paints and starting with a very high contrast image. I usually convert my images in Photoshop and then print directly out of Photoshop. While in Photoshop I convert my image as a rich black (a mixture of all 4 colors, CMYK). Printing out color black and white prints from a color laser print from my work, it's a Ricoh MP C2004. Some people that have just black laser printers, run their laser prints twice through the laser printers to get it darker. It’s the toner resistance you’re striving for. The fluid paint tends to dry quickly and I tend to not leave it on too long, like 12-15 seconds. Hope this helps.
