      OK that would be SICK
      Especially because it would allow Roger Allam to take a stab at the ending to Stars, which he didn't get to do in his run (at least as far as I can tell from the cast recording)

    The first time I heard this, I just stood in front of the tv in a trance. Colm and John were perfect, and then Simon kicked it up a notch with his slightly deeper voice. Then when Alfie was allowed to take it to another level, he really delivered! I get goose bumps every time I listen to his first few verses. All of them do outstanding versions when singing the traditional stage version of Bring Him Home, so no need to argue about who's the best... they all earned the right to play the lead role in Les Mis.

    Shall I 'say' something personal? Why not: I'm willing to be vulnerable. When I listen to this I find myself singing along, not very well, but.. and then tears track down my cheeks. The words remind me of my son, who is long gone. By the end of the song, I wipe my tears, and feel blessed that we have music in our lives, and I reflect on all that is good in this world. it's okey to miss loved ones and it's okey to go on, somehow enriched by what the arts give us that gets us in the touch with our humanity. So...thanks you four amazing Tenors.

      My son would be 50 tomorrow (September 3) had he survived an aneurysm in 1995. I have always coped with the loss by sobbing, shamelessly crying like a baby. And to initiate the process after these many years I play a version of "Bring Him Home" which always triggers the release of the grief that will always be a part of me. I am not for a moment surprised that you also have a deeper relationship with this song and all the arts. I suggest there are legions of us. Bless you all.

    • @sharonaldridge3332
      @sharonaldridge3332 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Thank you so much for sharing that John. So many people lost someone that should have lived a long life. Whether it be about love or loss, the arts reach us on deep levels and this is what makes them so important.

The 10th anniversary version is absolutely stunning. Just wow.

    How can anyone dislike this 4 masters of their craft yet it's not good enough shame on you. I have had to make comment on here several times as follows if you can't say something nice then don't. Does this boil down to nothing more than jealousy I for one can't sing a note. Yet it saddens me greatly that others throw stones at artists who give real meaning to the words they sing, as every note comes from the soul. I have come very late in my life to musical appreciation about 50 years too late but at least I'm here. Please make a video and I will be the first to watch your efforts, if you hit the mark I will give you your first yes. Or is it I will say no to this just because I can.

    This is incorrectly lablelled. It wasn't the 10th Anniversary a the Royal Albert Hall. That was in 1995. This clip is from the Dec 2010 Royal Variety Performance at the London Palladium , and it's the 4 Valjeans that appeared in the finale of the Les Mis 25th Anniversary Concert a month or two earlier. John Owen-Jones did not play Valjean until 1998, 3 years after the 10th anniversary. Also, Samantha Barks, seen at the end of this clip, played Eponine in the 25th anniversary concert in 2010 and went on to be in the film with Hugh Jackman. She was born in 1990, so this is definitely NOT the 10th anniversary.

      @@casperwallace9685 Actually, I think the first performance of this arrangement was at the 50th anniversary concert version of "Les Mis" at the 02 (where I heard Alfie Boe for the first time: he, just like Colm, really got 'into' the prayer-like version of the piece and gave a performance that earned a 20-minute standing ovation. It was only during the "encores" that the four-tenor version (with these tenors) was introduced, and Alfie changed the key and brought down the house down; but he stunned me with his beautiful rendition during the performance itself. He said afterwards that he got into his own little "bubble" and it took a while for him to come out of it and he was stunned by the applause that went on and on.

      MICHAEL DUGGAN . As far as I am concerned, each tenor has his uniqueness. I don't think that one tenor is better than another. Of course, each of us rates a tenor according to how each of them affects us emotionally. One tenor might lead us to an emotional high, another is boring, still another makes us wish why that particular singer got the part in the first place.

      When Alfie sings the song as part of the role during the 25th anniversary concert, he puts all the feels into it. Much softer. In this encore, he's totally going for operatic mastery. I'm pretty sure that's what they wanted from him.

      @@jdpatrick1106 Colm was the original Valjean. Somehow I'm unable to copy the Google info here, but please feel free to check for yourself.
      Yes, Bring Him Home is a prayer. That's actually its title, in fact. But each singer has his own interpretation. Alfie believes Valjean goes through a range of emotions, one of which is anger. Where was God when he was unjustly imprisoned and brutally treated all those years? (You can give, You can take!), then he turns to pleading. Who of us keeps our emotions flat? If we're talking directly to God there should be freedom of expression.

    Outface voice is far superior to all of the others. His dinner is natural and not Falsetto. As far as his lower register, that is the one he had to develop, the baritone. Is far as his emotions go, he was crying in one of the scenes. When people see this in performances by Him very literally stop breathing and a building goes completely quiet. There standing ovations from 3 to 4 minutes. Music has to start for other songs in order for people to sit down and stop clapping it is something to behold. For him it's not just a song it is truly a prayer and you can tell that is true. Hes not acting is way through it, He is Praising his way through it and you can tell.

    Let us celebrate the gifts of these four performers. They each bring something unique to this amazing piece of theater. Music is said to be a helpful medium for emotional healing as are the arts in general. There are moments when we all can benefit from listening to, and in terms of theater, this theater, watching. Let's work on letting this magic make us a bit transformed, maybe raise us up a bit as humans.

    4 marvelous individual performances and the first three combined so well. No doubt an unpopular opinion, but I was lulled out of the beautiful, gentle, plaintive prayer-like vulnerability of the song when Alfie Boe came belting in. It felt like being in a room immersed in a wonderful song when suddenly someone comes in, turns on their own chosen tune at a higher volume and drowns yours out.
