There was a youtube ad of a girl learning Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ on a piano in the middle of that famous ‘to love another person is to see the face of God’ phrase, and I have never been so upset in my entire life, at anything, ever.
Graham Williams so do I but sadly she’s the victim of bad parenting and never had a chance because apart from Marius no one shows her genuine kindness or affection .
I was there, high up in the cheap seats, mostly because I was such a huge fan of Michael Ball at the time and I spent the entire concert just focusing on him. Now so many years later I can appreciate just how fantastic all the cast were and that this was really a once in a lifetime experience.
No matter how many times I see Les Mis I always cry at this scene more than any other. I start crying at I dreamed a dream then when Eponine dies, but its this scene that really sets me going
My parents influenced me into enjoying musicals and les miserables was one of them. My parents got me to watch this production and that made me want to watch the real thing. The finale always made me cry and give me goosebumps
Alfie Boe was too concerned with showing off his voice, rather than allowing his voice to become Valjean. Colm becomes Valjean physically, emotionally and spiritually.
I remember I saw this for the first time in the late 80's in San Francisco. When Fantine first comes out and that bright white light follows her in that gown. I lost it. Then, by the time Eponine comes out, I was a wreak!! I have seen it four times since then and it never fails. It's one of the scenes that made me want to continue theatre stage lighting.
I was disappointed too when I didn't see Eponine in the movie, but then I thought that that version is all about Jean Valjean's life, so logically he would see the people he knows. Eponine's appearance works for the stage, as a call back to the audience, but in a movie it has to be different. Like when Gavroche, rather that talking to the camera (the audience), he introduces himself to two characters in front of him.
In the musical/ concert, there is a need for another angel to accompany Valjean and complement Fantine's song. Eponine's character and voice fits perfectly. However in the movie, those who died in the barricade did not leave the barricade, hence Eponine was there. Also, it gives more importance to the Bishop's character (as well as seeing the original Valjean accompany the movie's Valjean).
Have just had the privilege of seeing Les Mis. in Dublin, truly amazing ! Was so glad it was dark in the theatre as there were a number of occasions , I was nearly in tears 😢 given the emotion in the singing.

Platinum forever.

This cast is by far My Absolute FAVORITE!! The movie cast was exceptional but I grew up with this cast and I just thought everyone did a Stupendous job on their character and their voices are perfection...
Lanaloo216 This is my absolute favorite cast also. My dad had gotten me an anniversary CD set that had a mix from different casts around the world. He thought I would like it better because it was a much more complete version of the show. I begged and begged and he finally got me the CD of this cast that had all the songs, but was missing small things. My dad doesn't like classical or show tunes which are my favorite, but later he sat with me and listened to both versions of a few of my favorite song. He admitted liking my favorite version too, but I didn't try to make him do that again. But for a few hours I had a dad that wasn't just all about sports...
no one could ever, ever dispute that he was more than perfect. which is sad for all those that follow, who are wonderful but no one will ever be our most perfect Colm. much love to him and hope he is safe in these strange times.x
The part where Fantine sings "You raised my child with love" hits me so hard. Cosette wasn't even his child but he loved her endlessly! I just start tearing up
Hi Kahlynn.... im in the same spot. i've been isolated for 5 weeks now, and i spend all my time listening to musicals. i watched jesus christ superstar 4 times last weekend, and phantom of the opera is this weekends release on the YT channel "theshowmustgoon". These musicals are what is keeping me sane in this crazy situation.
The part where Valjean begins harmonizing with Fantine and Eponine is so beautiful it makes me cry every time. And then the ending chord where everyone comes back is the best ending to a musical of all time.
natalie soria I like the end because from this song it goes to do you hear the people sing but with the voices of the deceased students , eponine, enjolras and the rest . After the revolution France did become a free and democratic republic with the motto that is still there - egalite , liberte, fraternite ( equality , liberty , brotherhood )
I love how warm Ruthie's warm and motherly sounds in this song compare to how higher and younger she sounds in "I dreamed a dream". It fits both songs so well.
I don't think when people say they want to believe is that they want proof. God being this formless but always present thing is the point. Faith in that it's actually there is the point in believing. We're searching for the faith. I'm searching for it still
So very true. In loving another we reflect the very nature of God. We become Gods nature manifest on Earth. This was our original purpose. This is what we are supposed to be!
6:22 - 6:40 is and always will be one of my most favorite moments in music period. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to that chord progression over and over and over again. Ruthie and Lea's voices together are angelic and hypnotizing.
I do understand what you're saying. I just always thought they had Eponine sing that part too because (1) the harmony with her & Fantine is always fantastic (2) the line "to love another person is to see the face of God" Fantine loved her daughter, and Eponine was in love with Marius. Valjean loved Cosette and Marius so now the "first" people to love Cosette and Marius show up to lead him to heaven, and them guiding him is a way of saying thank you for looking after the people they loved.
I've always loved how it's only Valjean, Fantine, and Eponine who get to sing "to love another person is to see the face of God." The love that each had for another person in this place to the ends of their lives dying happily at last...
O ja, die drei sind für mich auch absolute Konzentration und Clou dieser wunderbarer Geschichte über lieben können und dürfen.Gottes Liebe verstehen.geben ist seliger als nehmen
i love this musical. everything is so pure, that you can feel their emotion when they sing. Love the story, love musical and even loved the movie. great musical
And the Book and the movie and all the various TV productions of the Drama of Les Miserables....I have lost count of all the times I have listened and watched it Victor Hugo was a Genius and the musicals do him justice.
And 300. And Dumas's original Three Musketeers (+ D'Artagnan), Ten Years After. And the 47 rōnin in the Akō incident (not the movie flop). Hugo knew, even back then, that yanking heartstrings sells. It's universal, across nations and centuries.
Colm is Jean Vajean... the beginning you can just hear the mix of sadness and happiness in his voice. He is letting go of Cosette, but he knows she is happy with Marius ❤
Is it weird that I lost interest in this about three years ago and then for the whole year I can never stop singing it in the shower or during free time
Love the Eponine/Fantine harmony!!!!!!!! Take my hand and lead me to salvation. Take my love, for love is ever-lasting. And remember the truth that once was spoken. To love another person, is to see the face of Gd.
My wife and I have seen this incredible musical at least 4 X's. The emotion never abated.... it truly is magnificent......even to the first timers who swore they would not waste the time, nor the money, to witness the production. After inviting several friends to a performance in Atlanta, and a performance in Birmingham, they sat in silent awe and could barely utter a word afterwards. They even offered to pay us back! The DVD we bought is excellent.
“Take these children my Lord to thy embrace and show them grace” The entire musical points us to the unmerited grace of God, freely made available to all of us through the death of His son, Jesus Christ. In “Who am I” Valjean sings, “Can I condemn this man to slavery? Pretend I do not feel his agony, this innocent who bears my face, who goes to judgment in my place? “ What better picture of what Jesus has done for all of us? The innocent who went to judgment in our place....
"And remember the truth that once was spoken: to love another person is to see the face of God" -Victor Hugo
Cosette Fauchelevant Pontmercy I don’t think I ever read that in the novel though.

I saw Les Miz in London in 1988. Scalped ticket. Paid double. By this point in the show, I was sobbing. Best show I have EVER seen.
There was a youtube ad of a girl learning Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ on a piano in the middle of that famous ‘to love another person is to see the face of God’ phrase, and I have never been so upset in my entire life, at anything, ever.
The part where Fantine and Eponine start to harmonize is so awesome, especially Eponine's part.
+Ryan DeFrees Thats the part I keep coming back to hear
I LOVE les Miserables......I always feel sorry for Eponine.

I agree. When Lea Salonga comes in as Eponine, harmonising with Ruthie Henshall is just sublime
Graham Williams so do I but sadly she’s the victim of bad parenting and never had a chance because apart from Marius no one shows her genuine kindness or affection .
I saw this on Broadway in April with my chorus. We were in the front row. I sobbed like a baby the entire show. So beautiful!!!
Brilliant Cast…..with Colm at his most iconic…..goosebumps every listen!
Timeless perfection with this cast. A brilliant Colm Wilkinson, best Valjean ever.
What an amazing song sung by THE Jean Valjean! Colm, Sir you have the most amazing voice!
I would've payed $5,000 dollars for a seat at this performance, can never listen too many times.

In the musical/ concert, there is a need for another angel to accompany Valjean and complement Fantine's song. Eponine's character and voice fits perfectly. However in the movie, those who died in the barricade did not leave the barricade, hence Eponine was there. Marius: It is you who must forgive me now, monsieur,
I heard you were a murderer and a thief,
And now I lay down my life at your feet
So it is true. Your father is a saint,
Cosette, when they wounded me he saved me,
He took me from the barricade,
And brought me home to live as a man.
Valjean: I no longer depart alone.
I am happy.
I have seen your smile again,
Now I may finally die.
Cosette: You will live,
Papa, you're going to live!
I want you to live,

Valjean: Yes, Cosette,
You forbid me to die,
I will try to obey.
On this page, I write my soul's confession,
And the secrets that you would want to know,
It's the story, of one who loved you so,
That she confided you in me
Before she disappeared.
Fantine: Come with me,
Where chains will never bind you.
Let me guide you
To the supreme happiness.
Lord in heaven, look down on him in mercy,
Valjean: Forgive me all my trespasses
And take me to your kingdom.

I'm biased. I can't accept anyone but Colm as Jean Valjean. Sorry others.
The best of the very best cast of Les Misérables. Nothing and no one can hold a candle to this cast x
I’m here Under quarantine bawling my eyes out because I cannot stop listening to this. It’s just so beautiful 😍 😭
I assume you have watched the whole of this perfect 10th Anniversary performance? Never worth watching another musical.
For some reason on this, the lips are slightly out from the sound. Not like that on the full show TH-cam post.
I am listening constantly in quarantine and crying too non- stop. Sooooo beautiful
Same as you kahlynn
I just love how ruthie and lea’s voice harmonized towards the end. It complemented each other
Oh my gosh this line always gives me the chills, especially “the truth”: 6:41
Ethereal…
The part where Valjean begins harmonizing with Fantine and Eponine is so beautiful it makes me cry every time. And then the ending chord where everyone comes back is the best ending to a musical of all time.
Everyone _but_ Javert
:)
And the Thenardiers they are alive, but still evil
Of all time, you are so right.
natalie soria I like the end because from this song it goes to do you hear the people sing but with the voices of the deceased students , eponine, enjolras and the rest .
Raising our late daughter’s girls, i can relate. That is love.
Wow - that sounds like a sad story. I hope that all is going well for you and the girls. (Trevor - Australia)
Nothing makes me want to believe more than that statement: "To love another person is to see the face of God."
the only one stopping you from believing is you. Look up Haim Shore on you tube, proof of God.
GOD can be each of us .................. I think that is the truth
I don't think when people say they want to believe is that they want proof. God being this formless but always present thing is the point. Faith in that it's actually there is the point in believing. We're searching for the faith. I'm searching for it still
Amen!
The most beautiful 18 seconds ever recorded
The salvation part is my most favorite
Me too , and cry every single time. It’s so amazing it’s ethereal. ❤️
Oh I absolutely love that part also
I am not crying and you cant prove it.
Can we agree on the term, Perfection?
I can’t imagine any other group of people doing this. Greatest cast ever
Shelley Mourer I believe God, Himself, chose them to get His point across !
@@christinahall2587 I’m pretty sure it was Cameron Mackintosh 😂
This cast was Divine intervention
Who’s watching in 2022?? 😊

It's not Broadway.
The first time I saw this I had no idea what would happen. I thought the good guys would win. And they all got killed. I was left sobbing.
And 300. And Dumas's original Three Musketeers (+ D'Artagnan), Ten Years After.
And the 47 rōnin in the Akō incident (not the movie flop).
Hugo knew, even back then, that yanking heartstrings sells. It's universal, across nations and centuries.
Niagara Cliff: "I am stone, no power can break me."
Time Traveller with a smartphone: 6:22
Niagara Cliff: [becomes Niagara Falls]
Simply fantastic, Oh God we need our live theatre’s back! 2020 the year of no lights on our theatres, so very sad!
Colm is Jean Vajean... the beginning you can just hear the mix of sadness and happiness in his voice. He is letting go of Cosette, but he knows she is happy with Marius ❤
This version of les miserables is flat out perfect.
“And you shall be with God” sends chills down my spine. At the end of the day, what more could a person want than to hear those words
Is it weird that I lost interest in this about three years ago and then for the whole year I can never stop singing it in the shower or during free time
I've been in that cycle since I heard it on cassette tape
Love the Eponine/Fantine harmony!!!!!!!!
Take my hand and lead me to salvation. Take my love, for love is ever-lasting. And remember the truth that once was spoken. To love another person, is to see the face of Gd.
This will always be my favorite musical and performance. I always come back to it. The staging and performances are superb.
Wow I love this song and it melts my heart anytime I listen to it. Are you a music lover😍?
“Forgive me all my trespasses and take me to your glory.”
El perdón de Dios a todos tus pecados si realmente te arrepientes.
Seen this so many times.. every performance is so different. Its just the best show u will ever see
"to love another person is to see the face of God" may be my favourite lyric of all time
absolutely
Mine too.....awesome.
The innocent who went to judgment in our place....
oh give it a rest.... Its about a man stepping up and showing compassion in the worst of times.
2:46 the way he says "Home" goes straight into my heart ❤️
are u joking
Mister Colm, magnífico!!!Puro coração na interpretação. Inigualável!!!
