      I had never gotten over Costner's love affair with himself, miscasting himself in films like Robin Hood(seriously?) There was some redemption in this film and he is very fortunate to have shared the screen with Duvall. If Duvall hadnt been in it, I would have never watched Open Range and missed a great movie. Thanks Mr. Duvall for making sure that didnt happen.

    A seriously underrated movie. I love this one and also Appaloosa. When I watch this one or Wyatt Earp or Dances with Wolves I can't help but feel Costner was born to play a cowboy in the same was I think Sam Elliot and Tom Selleck were. I feel like if they had all been born thirty years earlier, they all would have had far more successful Hollywood careers for that reason. I'm profoundly sad that the western genre has been largely abandoned.

      That's cute, but total bull. The Word of God goes ahead and defines murder vs killing for you, pretty as you please, and you can say whatever you like but The Good Book is one book that's just never going off the table. End of story.

    Shotguns do enough real damage. You don't have to pretend like the guy just got hit by a car. This one scene kind of ruined this movie for me.

    A shotgun will not knock someone back 10 feet. I hate when they do that in Hollywood movies. It ruins a great movie.

    During the beginning of the gun fight he shoots the guy in the head then fires several more times, then without reloading he fans his colt to kill one other....9 TIMES with a 6 shooter. DAMN, I WOULD LOVE TO OWN THAT GUN! You would think Hollyword would learn a little about guns!

    • @emperorreign6154
      @emperorreign6154 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn’t it show them using more than the one pistol though? I always just assumed he changed weapons after running out of ammo. A little later in the fight, he’s seen only using his rifle, so he must’ve discarded his smaller weapons when he ran out of ammo for them. But before that, I’m sure we see Costner using dual pistols in the fight, so maybe he alternated here or there when he knew he was running out of ammo for one but still had enough in the other.

      That scene was poor editing. He had two pistols. And he relods on the move multiple times in other scenes.
      Just watch the scene closely. They should've shown he picked up a revolver from one the guys he shot before. Its in the commentary on one of the DVD releases.

    No reason at all for that kid to not wait 6 months and then put 4 between his shoulder blades behind some saloon. You don't start a fight you aren't willing to finish, and you damn sure don't tell someone risking their life to protect your business how to handle themselves in a fight.

    • @Mukation

      Yes and no.
      Shooting an unarmed man IS murder, especially someone who's already injured. But he probably wouldn't go after them, he was just a hired gun and his boss was shot and 95% of the crew where killed by these three guys. He'd be an idiot to try to track them down.
