Great video showing what most YT videos on LED retro do not address - the fact that many old lighting cans do not have the retention clips in them. Glad to have found this...was getting to the point of having to pull the old cans which would totally suck.
So glad to hear you were able to find our video and that it was helpful 🙂
Thanks man. I was switching mine out and getting angry lol. The instructions said to simply clip it in. Other videos said clip it in. I was stuffing the clips into holes and even trying to clip the loops onto the hooks. Your video gave me a clear visual as to how to use the hooks. I wasn't able to find that info anywhere else.
You're very welcome! Glad to hear our video was helpful 🙂
I have all the tools you have listed. The new punch I have does not even make a dent in the can. I had to order small hex bits to work with my right angle tool. Good video!
Glad to hear you were able to install the c clips / torsion spring brackets into your existing recessed can and our video was able to help 🙂
Replacing my 26 years can face and doesn't have any holes for the wires and now i see what i have to do and the proper tools to get it done! Very well explain and thank you!
So glad to hear our video was helpful in solving your problem. Have a blessed day 🙂
who knew they made torsion spring clips---i need them for my project--thank you!!--my light cans were the swivel type so no clips
Glad to hear our video was helpful in resolving your problem 🙂
Thanks for making this video. The idea of LED recessed lights did not exist about 5 or 6 years ago. Scratching my head trying to figure out how to retrofit my 6 in cans with LED recessed. This video definitely put together the missing pieces, the clips and assemble the finished can light.
You're very welcome 😊 So glad our video could help!
good video . Friend of mine changed out all his down lights w / LEDS . He suggested i do the same and how easy it was to do . But he had clips . Mine didn’t .
Mine doesn't have clips either!
Thank you for the video. I’m going to be using my Milwaukee 3/8 drive battery operated ratchet.
You're very welcome! Glad you found the video helpful and that you already have the tools to make the project a success 🙂
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I can do this now and $ave on an electrician for this project.
So glad to hear you found our video helpful! Have a blessed day 🙂
Excellent teaching for a non experienced
Glad that our video was able to help 🙂
So happy I found this. I have the #20 can, grrrr not spring clips So not only did I find mine you showed how to add the clips. Now I need all the tools for it off to harbor Freight
Glad to hear our video helped you in your project 😃 Have a blessed New Year!
Thank you so much, you saved my day!
So glad to hear our video played the super hero 🙂
ThNk you. Exactly what I needed to know
Glad to hear our video was helpful 🙂
OMG. I have some flat LED lights that use e26 socket that only came with the wire spring tensioner. I always wondered why they don't come with the flat orange ones that have the bulb socket. This is a game-changer. Now I don't have to go into the attic and open up the junction box snd rewire
So glad to hear our video helped! You can find the torsion spring brackets here www.totalrecessedlighting.com/torsion-spring-bracket-clips-for-recessed-housings.html
@@TotallightingsupplyI received this in the mail Friday and installed them in the Half-Moon can today. Total game-changer thank you!
@@sugashack74 So glad to hear our torsion spring brackets worked wonderfully! Have a blessed rest of your week 🙂
Thank you! I am struggling to punch a whole in my cans to install my new retros LEDs
..
ugh. I am going to try your way
Yeah it can be a struggle to get those torsion spring clip brackets installed. Glad our video was helpful in offering an alternative way to install that should make the installation process easier 🙂
Good video. I just drilled pilot holes directly into the can so I wouldn't have to use the L attachment (or whatever it's called). I then used extension on drill bit to drill clips in. I did, however, encounter a big issue, which caused me to give up - for now. The cans in the room I'm attempting to install the retrofit lights are not mounted. They simply float and move around so even though I was able to attach the clips and get the light's springs on, when I attempted to push the light up into the can, the can moved such that I couldn't get the light all the way up into the can and flush against the drop ceiling. Extremely frustrating. Imagine I'll have to forgo the Edison-style screw-in retrofit and start fresh with clips. If any thoughts, I'm all ears!
Thank you and glad it was a helpful video for you. I am sorry to hear that your retrofit project has thrown you a curve ball. Here is a form that we have and if your can is not shown you can send us photos of it and we might be able to find a solution ⬇

Very very helpful. Thanks.
You're very welcome! Glad our video was helpful 🙂
Do I need a special dimmer for these???
These LED trims are very flexible when it comes to dimming. Here is a link to our 4-inch LED trim modules that lists our dimmers. All our product details can be found on our product pages. www.totalrecessedlighting.com/4-inch-led-selectable-cct-recessed-lighting-retrofit-copper-baffle-trim-27k-30k-35k-40k-50k.html
Thank you!
You're very welcome 🙂
How far from the bottom of the van should the c clips be placed
Nvm
@@skylane182s No worries. We have a diagram on our website here for more info on placement if you need www.totalrecessedlighting.com/torsion-spring-bracket-clips-for-recessed-housings.html
Is it possible that you installed the clips upside down? When I am removing the light, my C-clips are bending. If they were installed so that the grippers were below the screw, I don't think I would experience that problem.
If you find it easier that installation and removal works better with the C-Clips reversed there should be an issue in doing that. Just make sure it has secure retention 🙂
Good info; thanks.
Thank you! Glad our video helped 🙂
My socket is connected to a plate with ribits so do
Best thing to do is check out our resource page here to see if your housing works with our LED Trims 👉 www.totalrecessedlighting.com/convert-your-recessed-downlight-to-led.html
Question my can measure 6 1/2 would the six inch work?
Can’t find 6 1/2
Thank you
Best place to start is to see if your recessed can is in our list here www.totalrecessedlighting.com/convert-your-recessed-downlight-to-led.html 🙂
I’m currently trying to update my lights to LED. I took out the previous recessed lighting and measured the J cans, they’re 4 3/4inch. It’s an awkward size and I’m having trouble finding lights that would fit them. I purchased those adapters, but I’m still having trouble finding something that would fit. Any help would help
That size is very difficult to find an LED replacement. Have you tried contact Juno direct for an LED replacement?
I want flush ring no ribbed ring
You can find a variety of LED recessed lighting trims on our website here that may suit your needs ⬇

Why wouldn't you just use LED bulbs?
Not every application is the same. For example, the trim is old and has yellowed, is damaged or disfigured and simply replacing with an LED bulb would not resolve the problem. Another would be the color or finish of the trim does not fit the space due to changes in the space. Hope that helps 🙂
also - old trim is not airtight which bleeds energy
Fuck that install

We agree that's beautifully simple!
All you had to do is put an air tight 6" baffle so the socket can clip into it, then you could have put any type of LED light bulbs in it. Not sure why everybody want so use the retrofit. If that goes out, then you have to replace the whole thing. Isn't it easier just to replace a individual LED bulb? Plus then you can have LIFX or Phillips Hue lights in there and change the color to whatever you want.
Yes, that is a great solution if you are keeping the original trim. Many of our customers reach out to us wanting to replace their old, yellowing existing trim with something a little more modern while also wanting to go LED. So we have a solution you see in our video for that situation 🙂
