This is exactly what I was looking for! An upgrade to my 1970s can lights that I can do myself. Your instructions are perfect. Clear, easy to understand and just enough information.
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, webera! Yes, leave the tough ones to the experts but this is a good DIY for most! Happy Holidays!
Wow! Thank you for this. I was just looking for the trim needed to finish the can lighting that was installed during a partial remodel and came across your informative video. Now I know I'll be getting these instead! :)
Mahalo for Sharing this video, My bathroom light was out and I went to the store and get one light but i don't know how to Install till I watch your VIDEO and I Install it myself. Again many thanks.
THANK YOU, first video up and you’re explaining everything I need to know AND I can change out myself. Will make Hubby happy, 1 less thing for him todo. We have the retro fit but the light finally died. I thought for sure we were going to have to replace the entire lamp. Been dealing with a dark area for months. Many Blessings to you
Thank you for the help! Is there something that the tension springs are supposed to clip into inside the can? I don't see anything like that in my can lights, and the retrofit ones I bought just slide down and don't stay flush with the ceiling. I did buy a different model than what you have, but it looks like basically the same design. Do they just not have enough tension? I am not sure what to do. If they had some sort of rubber tip/stopper, I think they would have enough friction to stay put. I even thought about using pencil cap erasers on the tips! 😆 I just want to make sure I don't create a fire hazard, so looking for a more "professional" solution.
Thanks for watching and your support, @Joninani! My favorite are the Lutron switches. Here are a few vides I did on them, th-cam.com/play/PL7NJhlJrvooqj9-TF5RttTAapumoVRqfb.html.
Great video! Is it possible that my old 80's halogen potlights are a different voltage than my led lights I bought? The old pot lights have a huge electrical box hooked up to the lights, which resemble a motor almost.
Thank goodness for the comment and your reply. I was so confused trying to fit them into something else until I saw your reply snd saw clips that could bend and found them and boom. Perfect fit. Thanks.
Great video. Do you have a video on how to install these when you don't have recessed lighting already? I only have a ceiling fan in my living room and boob lights in the bedrooms and kitchen.
Thanks for watching and asking, @UncleRit! This is a sealed unit. LED bulbs should last for a long time. 50,000 hours of life accordingly to this manufacture, amzn.to/3RT8oTN.
I am changing out existing led lights for brighter white ones. They are both halo brand- the old ones have a green ground wire- is it necessary to have a ground for these? Thanks
Hi,we have some recessed lights with the 4 pin sockets with halogen bulbs, what to do in that case, because the adapter of these lights won’t fit in that.
Good question, @m3chan1zr! Yup, just pull it far enough and squeeze the clips. Thanks for watching and asking! Are you planning to retrofit yours with these?
@@Tech4Baba I actually have these in from the previous owner and I want to take them out! I find it is much better to get a good LED bulb that just screws into the existing socket inside the can vs. pitting these. And I have much more selection of bulb colors and brightnesses.
I have lytecaster 1176 cans, which don't hold clips. Can I remove the cans and the bulb socket from the cans and use the kind of retrofit lights with tabs (to grab the edge of the holes in the ceiling drywall) and connect the pigtail to the socket? Is it safe to install the light without using any can at all? Does the socket/pigtail gets hot once connected and powered?
I have a dimmer switch on the halogen lights do they have kits for the dimmer switch or do I have to change the whole dimmer switch to a LED. great video gave you a thumbs up.
Thanks for watching and asking, Kevin. You can buy them here: amzn.to/3pQ9qhm. There is also a link to a color-adjustable version in the video description.
Hello, thank you for the video! After installing these lights, I have a "humming" noise when i turn them on to full power. I have 3 cans on 1 dimmer; and when that dimmer it low, no noise, but when full power, humming. I did not have that problem with my 60 watt canned bulbs. Any idea?
Instructions with most retrofit lights always say to turn off the power at breaker box FIRST. I've seen several of these "how-to" videos with amateur DIY installers that never mention turning off the power. Why do you omit this step?. When it comes to showing a tutorial for electrical installation s, isn't safety a priority?
Good point, Melanie! It's always safer to do so. Since this particular LED retrofit is similar to changing a light bulb, many choose to skip that as long as the switch is confirmed off. Thanks for watching and sharing! Stay well.
@@Tech4Baba Melanie, I'm not sure how much experience you have with electrical work but since your comment suggest you watch a lot of DIY videos I suspect its...not very much. No self respecting electrician working in their own home would turn off the breaker to install these simple cam lights. Skimmed through 15 videos. This is the best one, especially in regards to the right size for cans and installation. Thanks

My new kitchen lights were easily installed after viewing your video!! Thank you so much!!
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, Leona! Enjoy your new kitchen lights! Stay well!
Thank you for sharing this video. I was able to change my entire loft. My electrician asked me hundred dollars to do this work.
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, webera! Yes, leave the tough ones to the experts but this is a good DIY for most! Happy Holidays!
Please show these clips that are up in the can where the tension springs connect
Amazing! Thank you for showing how easy this is! Electrician suggested I upgrade to these and I thought. ….can’t I do myself? Know I can!
Yes, you can! Thanks for watching and letting me know, Kim! Enjoy your new lights!
Thank you. the bit about squeezing the torsion clips inside the hook is what I needed!

Just retrofit it with a LED flood bulb! Cheaper too!
That's also a good option. Thanks for watching and sharing, @FirstClass!
I don’t see the clips inside of the housing. What can I do to make the plate stick ? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for watching and asking, Amna. There may be ones you can bend out or you can try these: amzn.to/3xrfJ0Z.

What’s the temperature like with these I notice even with the led flood lamps there is a lot of heat build up in the cans
Can you explain how to install the lamp holder socket? My basement only has the wiring :(
Great video. Do you have a video on how to install these when you don't have recessed lighting already? I only have a ceiling fan in my living room and boob lights in the bedrooms and kitchen.
Thanks for watching and asking, Dubious! No, this one only works if there is an existing recessed light housing.
good video, bro
thanks. great info on how the installation done. thanks for the links to the replacement kits.

Are they dimmable from a switch?
Thanks for watching and asking, @tonyholt5951! Yes, they are.
Hi, is there an advantage to retrofitting the led vs. just using a new LED screw in bulb into the old housing to replace the incandescent bulb?
Great info. Thanks
Thanks for watching, Joe!
Nice video. I need a trim ring that measures at least 7.75" diameter. Can you recommend a 6" retrofit that would work?
Just what I need
How do you remove the LED cans to adjust the color temperature once it has been installed?
When this bulb burns out, how do I replace it? Is this a sealed unit where the whole thing needs to be replaced or can I just replace the bulb?
Thanks for watching and asking, @UncleRit! This is a sealed unit. LED bulbs should last for a long time. 50,000 hours of life accordingly to this manufacture, amzn.to/3RT8oTN.

These are great...I have 4 old ones along side of my outside driveway and are covered from water . Can I use these outside ?
Yes, they are. Thanks for watching and asking, DONATO CONGIALDI! They should work as long as they don't get wet.
Thanks man, great job

I have a few 4.5” cans. What size will work?
Mine don't fit snuggly, suggestions?
I’m wondering the same thing
How can I clip on to the can if they don’t have slots in them?
What are the friction clips for thanks
What brand of lights are used in the video and what’s the diameter of the collar please?
How wide is the trim on this light?
I am changing out existing led lights for brighter white ones. They are both halo brand- the old ones have a green ground wire- is it necessary to have a ground for these? Thanks
Thank you! This is really helpful. I have a few old lights with the GX-23 2 pin base. Is there a recessed light for that?

How to install when the housing does not have clips on the side’s?
Thanks for watching and asking, S.Com. There may be ones you can bend out or you can try these: amzn.to/3xrfJ0Z.
How much can be charge per light? I recently got an estimated for this, just wanted to know if the price for them is right?

I bought these exact same lights. They don't even come close to staying flush in the can. The springs don't work right. What am I missing?
I have a dimmer switch on the halogen lights do they have kits for the dimmer switch or do I have to change the whole dimmer switch to a LED. great video gave you a thumbs up.
Thanks for watching and asking, Yankee mudbug! These particular Retrofit LEDs are dimmable so they will work with your dimmer switch.
Where can i buy?
Thanks for watching and asking, Kevin. You can buy them here: amzn.to/3pQ9qhm. There is also a link to a color-adjustable version in the video description.
My existing cab doesn’t have a spot for clips?!
Are these retrofit lights okay to switch when you have blown in cellulose insulation? Thank you for the video.
Yes, they run much cooler than the halogen recessed lights they replace. Thanks for watching and asking, Mary! Stay well.

You have to have dimmable bulbs
You should replace the dimmer that supports LED bulbs. I had the same issue and replaced with Lutron
I couldn’t get the cables to stay in the pot ugh was suppose to be so easy did r for at all- my can didn’t have the slots yours do :(
Yo baba thanks I gave you a like
Thanks for watching, OMI_Homie13! Did you install one?
@@Tech4Baba I did but it has a gap around it. I will need to buy some caulk or something
Weird, I don’t have anything for the torsion springs to latch on to.
Sucks my can doesn't have a place for the clips
Nice!!
Is it just an esthetics thing? Why not just out an LED bulb in thr can

Man says led light will work 22 years, while several of mine burned out in 2 😐
Shorter intro would be better
Thank only video that talks about the size needed to know what to measure 📏
How do you fit them if your canister has no holes
