House property, salary, PGBP, Capital gain and IFOS. When you add all the 5 components it is called as total income. And then you subtract deductions, TDS etc from this total income. There is a lot of spending the government undertakes in areas such as defence, employee salaries, pensions, education, infrastructure etc. How will all of this be financed? Yes he is saying leaving more money in the hands of individuals and corporates will boost economic activity through increased consumer spending and increased investments but to what extent? Will it be enough to cover the deficit arising from reduction in taxes? These are very pertinent questions. Each of them are obviously earning that much based on their capacity to earn. If the govt taxes the 1cr per year person more then it is conveying that if you earn more we will tax you more. To make a country run in an efficient way we need educated ministers with real degrees. But, to do that the population also has to vote for the right leaders. So in the end it's the peoples fault for choosing the wrong leaders. Tax structures should be lowered and made friendlier, like Singapore. Good companies have left India for singapore and other havens. Ashneer Grovers' recommendations are perfect.

Abolishing indexation benefit on long held property and at the same time reducing the holding period to qualify for LTCG from three year to two year will only favour the trader in real-estate. The 100 crore fraternity can make a quicker buck and pay only 12.5% tax. A person who had bought property as a means of financing a daughter's marriage finds at the end of twenty years that money ,which could have bought gold at 400 rs/gram, has vastly been shriveled by a FM in the name of simplicity. I have another doubt whether the reduction in the holding period is to favour persons wanting to make a quick exit from land holding bought two years before.

Govt says India's tax rates are equivalent to other countries. But basic difference is Europe & USA is having a huge tax base i.e. >45% population pays taxes there. In India , only 1.6% population is paying taxes & this tax contributes to ~19% of total govt. revenue. We can say, 1.6% of population is contributing ~19% of govt revenue which is a huge pressure on the tax payers. Govt should think to relax the taxes & increase the tax base

Uday, thanks for conducting the interview in the most professional way.
As Groverji mentioned correctly the private sector is responsible for creating jobs. Did the country and especially the opposition hear that? Through our the election campaign we heard from opposition the inability of the government to create jobs.
Unfortunately UP where BJP had the biggest loss has been the state where "my baap" of government is deeply rooted.
BJP as a party and right from its inception does not believe in big governments and wants the private industry to take the lead in job creation and so it's emphasis in startups and Mudra loans.
So it is a classic fight between socialism and capitalism.
It is the politics and not the government vision.
Taxes - Because of the "Ravidis" the BJP had to give because the government was called suit aur boot ki sarkar, the government needs the money.
So on one hand we can criticize the government for taxes be it individual or higher corporate taxes we the people of India are responsible for it. Kisan loans, money to build infrastructure, cylinders, bathrooms, free ration, free health care where does it come from?
Remember nothing is free, for someone to have it free someone has to pay for it. And as a country we should understand that.
No point creating class wars or taking capitalistic ideas of survival of the fittest.

Ashneer Grover is bang on target. About personal Income Tax a uniform rate of 20 percent above 10 lakhs would have certainly given a huge impetus to increase purchasing power in the hands of middle class people thereby address the "Demand Side" growth in the economy which was badly needed since a long time . Adressing only the "Supply Side" growth through creation of production capacities is meanigless unless demand side growth is there. Ideal situatio is to totally abolish all " Direct taxes" and introduce "Banking Transaction tax" on a pilot project to begin with. That might be more sensible rather than repeatedly squeezing the Income Tax paying middle class which comprise only around 2 to 3 percent which is the softest target for govt. for resource mobilisation...
