What Anshneer doing is comparing our tax rates to other countries who has low rates or tax heavens like dubai...etcc
What he doesnt realising is our country is still developing and much more complex country than anyother ,with huge population were most us are living in poverty or farmers whose incomes are exempt , so only options left are
      1. Rich people
      2.companies, LLPs , firms
3 poeple earning above 10 laks
The thing is we cant charge same rate for 10 lakh catogory and for rich people ,because people having 10-50 lakh are not lving that type of luxury that RICH does thats why we have slab rates..
Our country has to manage infrastructure, roadways, education
Which is mainly relied on taxpayers income...
Our country has recently manage secure 1st place in longest roadways by beating china , these things simply cannot happen if tax rates falls to 20%..and there is much more complexity that yet we don't understand...
Once we become developed country, we dont need 40% rate, and that not gonna happen for long time..
      I hope this helps

Many philosophers claimed after century western world will start collapsing because of individualism,

    • @hacorn96

@@0pinion99 socialism is a theory that has consistently failed in practical life for over a century - biggest is mao's china, present day is n-korea.
free markets have given all the benefits and privileges you use today, because it incentivises value. example - USA minus the past 2-3 decades. that's where you got the most innovations out of. (don't confuse that with crony capitalism - that's what leads to downfall)
for india - open all services up for the free market, including the govt services. let people decide which road they want to go down on. of course, exceptions of national interest like national defence can't be privatised. exceptions need to be managed via taxpayer's money.
if you don't, power accumulates in the hands of a few. that's still corruption, but insidious. coz it's in the name of "justice" and morons like you fall for it.
in practical life, people are not mostly corrupt. don't project your terrible upbringing on an entire nation. it's technically impossible for any highly corrupt nation to thrive - see South Africa.

Direct tax is progressive in nature. If a flat rate of tax will be imposed then people having lower income who are not paying tax according to current tax regime will end up paying taxes and people having higher income will end up paying less tax. Also the assumption that there will be no tax evasion with lower tax rates is foolish.
The problem with the government is that they are not providing enough infrastructure to the country in education, health sector etc.. They are collecting taxes but are not fulfilling the promises made and the solution is definitely not the flat tax rate as it will make poor more poor and rich more rich. The tax collected should be expensed in more transparent and effective way.

Honestly, Indians 99% of them are already non-taxpaying citizens, what needs to be done is to increase the tax base, simultaneously reducing the tax rates, I think personally any tax above 21% on personal income is foolishness. Now, 21% tax would not only increase the disposable income but also savings, resulting in greater GDP growth, and lower borrowing costs for businesses and govt. And, yea I a support progressive taxation, I don't care about whether we implement flat taxation or not.

Low earners can have exception but everyone else need to have flat tax rate. Tax rate is percentage. If tax rate is not flat rate for everyone, then its exponential tax system which is not really good for tax payers. It is better for everyone if tax rate is a flat. Its easy to say high tax for high earners but high earners will still pay high taxes even if tax rate is flat. Eg: if tax rate is 10 percent, a person earning 100 will pay 10 but a person earning 10000 will pay 1000.

Flat tax rate is ideal. Since India has a very small percentage of people paying direct taxes, the government heavily relies on indirect taxes through gst and other, etc. This heavily affects the middle class people, those who are salaried as they end up paying nearly 50% taxes in direct amd indirect taxes. This leads to a very low savings rate. 30% tax rate above 10 lakhs is brutal, as u can only get that type of salaries in metro cities and the cost of living is quite high there. Taxing everyone at flat 10% will ease the burden and will increase the tax base. Its also high time the government starts taxing the wealth farmers. 28% gst is too high and unheard of in many developed countries.
