The rod locker might be a ticket waiting to happen. Here in Texas nothing should stick out the side more than 6" from the wheel/ body. Check your state regs before mounting it the sides Great build! I had to replace one hub $100+
I have a similar idea but using a 5x8 utility trailer. That way I can keep all my fishing gear on my trailer and keep my car clean. I've got a similar size SUV. I'd love to get a kayak too eventually and I've noticed there's no one doing these types of builds. There the smaller beach carts but nothing on a slightly larger scale for like weekend trips or going kayaking. Be great to have my camping and fishing gear stored and ready to go when I want to go.
I would really love a better close up of how you anchored each unistrut to another unistrut. I can see that the vertical struts are not mounted in line since the trailer tapers in towards the front. So the horizontal strut must be at an angle. Did u cut out an angle or did you bend the horizontal unistrut to be flush with the vertical one?
Yea, you got me thinking now ole son. But you’re out there a little bit on the passenger side. That step would be good access to the rod box up top with a little more rack.
Sir, I am just getting started on my build. I too am on TH-cam trying to build my channel. My trailer is going to be multi-purpose as it is a bigger trailer (dual axle) 6x 12. In watching this video and a few others where the builders are using unistrut, I think that is the best approach for my build, as I need to be able to dismantle in a short amount of time. Did you weld any of the unistrut to the frame or bolt on everything? The brackets you use to connect the unistrut were you able to get those locally or did you have to make them yourself? I have never worked with unistrut myself, so looking for any tips, pointers, etc for bolting my setup together, e.g. using spring nuts vice regular nylon lock nuts, etc. I have an ARB Awning and Room to go on one side, and Yakima rod locker like yours on the other, one maybe two kayaks, all the totes and all that will be in the back of the pickup, so really, just looking to use unistrut to make a way to hang the ARB awning & room, hang the rod locker, load the Yak, and add solar and shore power to it. Great build, looks the nuts! Well done. Thanks for the ideas.
Hey man, I’m trying to start a fishing TH-cam too but having a hard time with the go pro, could you please go into what camera you use and what setting you use and why
Are you still liking the unistrut? That’s an awesome idea and I’m in the middle of building one out of a jet ski trailer and I don’t weld. The unistrut sounds like the way to go. I picked my trailer up for 2 boxes of ammo. Needless to say it definitely needed work. So far new hubs, bearings, wheels and tires, paint, coupler, chains, and lights with wiring. I have wood and the bunk carpet but have not done that part yet. Yours looks awesome.
Awesome! I am getting ready to purchase a small trailer like this, and I have been looking for a setup idea I like for over a year. Question about painting the unistrut... (1) Did you paint it before or after assembly/installation, and (2) What did you use to paint it?
Man that is a nice kayak trailer you have. I really like how you have it setup to your needed. I have been looking at some kayak trailer for about a year now. I'm trying to figure out if I want to buy one already set up or buy a use trailer and set it up to my needed. The cheapest one that i found that will be set up already to my need cost $1,500 dollars & go up to $3,500 dollars for a kayak trailer. Trailers can be very very expensive man. I'm looking for a trailer that can haul 9 Kayaks at once plus some gear. Brother I do have a question though? How do those tires hold up for highway speed? A lot of the tires that I'm finding max out about 60 maybe 65 & I do a lot of Interstate driving so I would like to a least do the speed limit. I like your trailer brother that is really really nice. You take it easy brother and be safe.
How did you get those angle brackets to fit? Im in the process of doing this to my trailer, but can’t see which brackets you used. Can you do an updated video at some point?
My man!! Another REAL man with a Subaru!!
Lol right on!
The rod locker might be a ticket waiting to happen. Here in Texas nothing should stick out the side more than 6" from the wheel/ body.

Great build!

Finally found info on your trailer. Thank you for sharing your setup 🍻🇨🇦
Nice kayak trailer!

Nice build. I’ve been working in a trailer and those are done good ideas. Thanks
Thanks man!
Everything has it’s place and great build! There’s no worries with DOT and the Yakima box out past the wheel well?
Looks good and by doing the build your self you build it the way you want it. 👍
Absolutely!!
Awesome video! Glad you showed us your set up!
thanks!!
Damn, you need to market this..I've never seen anything like it!
Yessir, super easy to build and extremely modifiable.
What is covering the boat guides? Transom guides?
Great job! Nice set up!
Thanks!
Love the trailer!! Sweet set up
Thanks man!!

Badaass set up. I got an idea. Thank you
Great looking trailer Nate.
Thanks brother!!
Sweet setup 👍
What size pipe did you use as guides when you load?
I'm new to all of this. What size bolt and washers did you use? What would you recommend using to bend and/or cut the unistruts?
Very innovative! Good job.
Thank you!!
Looks good bud. I’ve been hunting for a trailer for my current kayak and have it set up for a future kayak
Thanks man!!
Nice job Nate! Thanks for the encouragement to motivate us!
Yessir!!
Perfect. Just what I needed. Thanks for posting
🙌 🙌
Did that have a place you mounted the spare?
what paint did you use to paint the unistrut?
Hi, how long is the trailer from tongue to tail lights
I think some Unistrut is in my future for the next upgrades on my kayak trailer!,
Yessir! I’d love to see the finished project when your done.
thanks so much dude, this was really helpful
Awesome, glad it helps!
Maybe I missed this in the video, but where did you get the trailer?
Sooooo jet ski trailer, plus racks and accessory boxes... Got it
I’ve got a grinder if you want to grind the corners down then just spray paint it again.
10-4!
Did you paint your uni-struts to that black?
Great content, I'll be trying to great a stackable for two yaks.
Love you idea. Thanks
🙌 🙌

Thanks!
I need to find a tandem jetski trailer to carry two Yaks now
Dang good video, keep them coming ✅💥✌️
Thanks brother!!
Hey man, I’m trying to start a fishing TH-cam too but having a hard time with the go pro, could you please go into what camera you use and what setting you use and why
GoPro hero 10- 1080 @ 30fps
What did you you use to connect all the unistrut to make the frame?!
So... probably a stupid question, but how did you attach the UniStrut running parallel to the ground to the vertical UniStrut? It looks nice!
I cut sections out to fit the vertical uni strut.

Yes sir. Love it, no welding needed
@ awesome. Thank you bud.
How wide did you make your runners and what size pipe were they?
12” apart
That rod box is damn near $700.
For those who want something similar, search DIY rod tube. Can be made for roughly $50-75.
Awesome trailer build man!
I cant find 6 or 8 " pvc for less than $400.
If you used a wider trailer would you be able to have the same setup just have 4 kayaks on it?
I think so. I don’t see why you couldn’t.
Sweet. Can do went and did. Good job.
Awesome!!
The unistrut you're using is 1-5/8 in. 12-Gauge correct?
I believe so

I painted after, I just spray painted it. I used rustoleum
@@southernsalt How did you secure the runners to the trailer?
What kind of kayak is that idk if its been said
I would like to know how much you paid for that rod locker and where did you get it.
It’s a Yakima and I think it was $500 about 2 years ago.
Honestly thats pretty damn neat.! Looks like you could make some good money on the side building these. What brand kayak is that .
It’s a Hobie PA. I’ve definitely thought about it lol
What about the trailer itself?
Where can I get that Plano box
I got it from Academy sports and outdoors
Great video! Did you paint the struts black or did you buy the struts already painted black?
I painted it.
Man that is a nice kayak trailer you have. I really like how you have it setup to your needed. I have been looking at some kayak trailer for about a year now. Good job dude, how has it held up over time?
It’s held up great
What’s your kayak called
Hobie PA14 360
What kind of kayak is that?
Hobie PA 14
@@southernsalt Very nice!
Ah ha, shoulda watched this before ordering a malone
Those Malone trailers are pretty sweet though
How did you get those angle brackets to fit? Im in the process of doing this to my trailer, but can’t see which brackets you used. Can you do an updated video at some point?
I’m torquing and twisting to get a bolt started on the angle brackets. The uni strut is easy to manipulate and work with.
Genius
I try lol
Its crazy that big plano box on the front is only $30 when they get the same for a small tackle box.
Lol I know right
Awesome
Thanks!!
$300 trailer build (not counting the trailer) hahah
Damn 290 you have to come build my kayak up. You know you want to 😂😂😂😂 you always here anyways just down the road
It’s too easy lol I’ll help you out for sure!
I know bro just giving you a comment
Well thought out!
I think $600 with boxes is what you told your wife it cost!
That Yakima is $800
Like it🔥
Heck yeah!!
Because I'm trying to see how it all connects lol
It’s uni strut, it’s all bolt on
@@southernsalt yeah but I mean the cross bars that are connected from to the one that's at an angle
"Around $300, not counting the boxes and the trailer itself."
Did I miss anything?
Sooooo not $300. Got it 😂
Great trailer, I really like it. I might have to build one for the back of my atv. That being said why lie about the video title
Not sure where he lied at
