Well, Oh my God I don't know what to say. I'm 65 years old. I listen to everything from classical to jazz to blues and country. These young women are something else. Just when I thought all the younger people's music was crap - here they are, bringing up shades of the allman bros and many many other great groups of my youth. These girls just flat blow me away. They have restored my faith in the younger generation. Great great - really authentic, really from the soul. That voice - my god girl, you stand in a tradition that goes all the way back to bessie smith, ma rainy, billie holiday and many others - janis joplin - and you belong with them. just pouring out everything you got into every note with a god given talent. You got that edge - blues edge from the depths of the soul. You can't get that, either you got it or you don't - you got it. Wow, keep it up.
The Lovell sisters are great swampuppy, but there are many young people making interesting music these days. Just check out the Audiotree channel on YT. You surely won't like it all (I don't) but there's no shortage of youthful talent and creativity in this timeframe. It's just much more difficult to be original with a century's worth of recorded music already out there.
These two show what can be done with just talent and passion. No glitz, no special effects, no revealing clothes- and they are all the more beautiful for it. Only discovered them recently - big fan now 😊
Talent, passion and no revealing clothes???? Awwww yeah..... that's way their not on TV or played on main stream radio. They don't fit in with the pure shit that you find there.
@@BlueRidgeKat1 I find it really said that people with this sort of talent are overlooked in favour of talentless nobodies who are prepared to sell their souls for their 15 minutes of fame. I am a massive fan of Rush - another group who were overlooked by the majority because they refused to compromise their musical visions. Like Rush , Larkin Poe will have to wait for the world to wake up and catch on to their talent.
Cold night here, in this small, third world country, called Wyoming...as I sit in my living room, with a heating pad on my legs, wintry outside with a minus 25 and ice forming on my window. It burns like whisky but coats my musical taste buds like honey. A slide like....Duane Allman... With shades of Roy Buchanan. Voices like a wounded Stephen Stills and harmonies like the Wilson Sisters...voices like angels! This? This is like real chocolate in cold, fresh milk. Almost perfect! Dear Lord... To end up in such a cold place, you must be a man of the blues. Hope you got a chance to see them perform live since this post. Thank you for expressing what so many of us feel about this extraordinary band. 👍👍👍👍👍
Must agree. There is a unique respect these two sisters and their band-mates have for the blues? Why? They must have A&R parasites all over them wanting more "Pop" tunes. But again, why so committed and passionate about Blues? This is the sauce that makes them so unique...

Absolutely! We should all be spreading the music of these fine sisters like the flu. It's time to turn down the Taylor Swift and turn up the Larkin Poe!
You do realize that this song is decades old, right..? They're playing an old standard, and to be honest, they're bringing very little new things to the table. Virtually any older rendition of this song is better.
I credit their taste in what music to cover. Skip James, Son house, and Robert Johnson for starters. They are obviously steeped in the blues. There is no posing here; only soul, authenticity, and virtuosity. Part of virtuosity is knowing what NOT to play. Megan is always serving the song. She could show off plenty, but she never does. Each note means something, and some raise the hair on my neck!. Of course, Rebecca's lead vocals are epic. She is also a fine multi-instrumentalist. So much talent here put to it's best use. Skip James recorded some of the deepest blues in history. It takes guts just to take it on, much less to make it their own. Much respect and admiration. Nancy and I have been fans since the Lovell Sisters days at MerleFest.
Skip James, who wrote this song , sang in an unusually high, almost falsetto voice and also had insane guitar picking skills. You can find film of a couple of his original performances including this song on TH-cam if you look. There's also a very good, almost spooky instrumental cover of this song by Sonny Landreth and Cindy Cashdollar on You Tube, two of the very best slide guitar players around, recorded at a Skip James tribute conference or simething . Yes, there's some kind of Skip James Society that keeps the music alive ! Sometimes known as Wall Street.... that was a grim joke, but since this song was written about the Great Depression, and since depressions and recessions and economic panics have been with us for over a hundred years, a song like this seems to become a relevant yet again every decade or so.
This track was the highlight of the new album for me. I love that Larkin Poe interprets these classic blues songs in a way that is both respectful to the original while still putting a bit of a contemporary take on the songs. With that 2-beat measure added, and the awesome slide solo section this version sounds fresh while still including hints of Skip James’ original guitar licks. That’s the true genius of a successful cover of a classic tune: both fresh sounding while still maintaining the feel of a direct descendant rather than a distant cousin of the original. Awesome!
Well, here we are. Larkin Poe are killer. Rebecca and Megan rock the world. ...If u like this video, wait until you can see ‘em live. Their rhythm section is Pocket City, and they can start and stop on a dime. Yes, gimme some Larkin Poe.
Overwhelming passion! That is the essence of music.. passion, and these girls own it! Every note doesn’t need to be perfect, BUT, are you all in? LP is all in every second!
The cd came today, "Venom and Faith". I am going to try to do justice to the work that these ladies have done, no doubt I am going to fail, but here goes. There are sounds that one hears from disparate Blues performers that capture your attention and your soul, but often these are fleeting. There is a set of emotions that comes through from them, again these are rare. The collections of works on this cd capture these sounds and emotions from the first track to the last. The production, mixing and layering of what I have over the years called, the Mississippi muddy water, barefoot sound is intense and grabs you. The guitar and steel performances are so honest and basic that they are overwhelming at times. The vocals completely compliment the instrumentals but are good enough to stand on their own and convey total conviction to the music. I honestly can say that this cd is, track to track, the strongest that I have ever heard. Well done Ladies!!! Thank you...
You ladies have souls that are incredibly linked in the same path. Your music moves me along that path as well. It’s an enigma how you can be so young and express the license required to do what you do so well. This reminds me of what BB King said. ‘A guitar can never play the blues until it’s been in a pawn shop.’
About 8-10 years ago I saw a 3 sister act, The Lovell Sisters, in North Georgia. Pretty sure these are two of them. At the time they played bluegrass and were AMAZING, very young at the time, I think under 20. Anyway, the fiddle and dobro playing were perfect and the 3 part harmony likewise. The musicianship of these kids is excellent.
I can't help it, I'm in love with your sister Megan. Every time I see her she capture's my imagination with her slide and harmonies. She uses her lap steal as a voice 🤣 that is unique in the music you both perform. kudos to you Rebecca for all you do... you're a great guitar player and Singer, you can Rock the House Down girl, you go!!!

Love it! They are pulling elements from both the Skip James and Chris Thomas King versions and then adding stuff that is all their own. The intro is King's, and the "hook" is James's.
Going to see Keith Urban at SunFest in Palm Beach and had to look them up as they open for him. Was going to skip the opening act, not NOW, WOW, what amazing music these women perform. Long live the Blues!
Loved when you guys performed this song live in Monterey yesterday. I swear that I must have been the only person in the audience who knew who Skip James was. Had to hear your version again! Thank you again for an excellent show, Rebecca & Megan! I particularly enjoyed Megan's steel guitar on this song and all of the other songs during that live show. This comes from the red pen and blue pen guy you met after the show. 👍🎸😎
Strong performance. Respectfully resting on tradition. I like it. I will go back and play the video of Skip James' live performance in Germany in 1967 as well as the 78.

Such chemistry between two old souls. Such wonderful talents!
The slide guitar together with the fab voices of these sisters and the beat makes the blues music great.
Love Megan's lap steel and Rebecca's vocals. I found my interest in music again.
One of the best Delta blues songs ever. And these gals do it justice. Respect!

corn pone music maybe
I really can't imagine a cover of this song done any better. These girls clearly love their source material.
