You're saying it is a free template and as soon as I gave my email id, there is a pop up pushing a paid course/service (The Career Advancement Toolkit). The worst part is there is no option to skip. Don't mislead people for the sake of your business. Now you have my email (because even if you don't give people anything, you will have their data and sell it as leads) and I don't have the free sample.
JUST another INFLUENCER monetizing someone else's plight.
same issue here honestly dishonest and misleading@@r-g-s
Had the same thing happen!🙄😡
Just downloaded! Thank you! Also to everyone else, the templates ARE free you just need to look through the website, and she made this great video on YT it's fair she wants to drive some traffic to the site.
My first resume after an update to my resume (using the template and this conversation) resulted in a screening from a live person. Though it was a long shot due to one of the criteria, I actually got through to someone for the first time in three weeks. Thank you for providing this information!
Wow! That's amazing. Thanks for sharing. Continue to watch the content on this channel and you'll be in your ideal job in no time. Feel free to post any questions you have on any of the videos. Good luck my friend!
@@ProfessorHeatherAustin thank you for your efforts. I have a question about the adaptability of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to different market standards, specifically the French market. French CVs are typically detailed and can be up to seven pages long, following a specific order: name, title, education, certifications, skills, languages, and experiences. This format is preferred by talent acquisition professionals in France, but I'm concerned about its compatibility with ATS. Could you elaborate on whether ATS systems have a universal structure they prefer, or can they be adjusted to accommodate different market standards and languages?
Unbelievably stupid that this is what job hunting has turned into .... how does one not feel degraded when stripping naked and jumping through flaming hoops like this? I've seen resumes with more credentials and accolades than that of a prime minister of a european country, but they come in needing to be trained and have no sense of logic or problem solving skills whatsoever. This filtration system, whatever it is, is completely failing both the employer and potential employees of any business that engages in these hiring practices. This is BASICALLY prioritizing erudite bullshitters instead of choosing the best candidate for the job strictly based on their merit....
I have been wondering what the flip side of these would be.
I see where you are coming from, just I think it is a little exaggerated. First off, people lacking critical thinking skills has always been an issue, and it shows up more now as we train for jobs based much more on mental processes than behaviors. Second, formatting a resume to be received well with ATS is just a simple rule of the game. If you were looking to vet for critical thinking, thinking ahead to format your resume properly i.e. problem solving in the context of a job search.. not a bad way to weed out practical applicants. Sure, some will be left behind for jobs they would be qualified for, but also, it's not difficult to understand why companies who receive hundreds of applications a day needs tech to help them at least give each one some sort of look. They put in what they need to the system, and the system looks through them for those requirements. Idk man.. doesn't seem like it's that big of a deal. I mean, you want a merit based system, and these resumes are where you put your merits.
I couldnt agree more
this shit as well as cover letters, are made to evaluate how good a candadite can lie. Period
I put on my resume I had 10+ years of experience. I was told that I was rejected because they specifically said they wanted someone with at least "9 years of experience" . 10 years did not match 9 years so I guess I was not the right fit. The fact that HRs are using ATS also indicates that companies are in no hurry to hire. Which means there are even bigger problems than anyone can do anything about.
That’s actually lacking a lot of sense. “At least” clearly means they are looking over those years expectations. Thanks the universe you weren’t hired by that company, you deserve a better option.
@@SergioRosales-hg2sr What are you talking about? 10+ years of experience is at least 9 years of experience. The ATS and you didn't catch that.
In that case, they probably had someone in mind and tried to make sure the requirements fit exactly to what the person they actually want has in experience.
Thank you for this video. LITERALLY LIFE SAVER.. I've sent almost 2000 applications for the past 4 months after being lay off. and nothing materialized. ATS should be illegal. imagine the millions of applicants like me that got layoff and need a new job ASAP and resume got dumped the moment send my Resume
You’ve applied for 3 jobs a day, every day for 4 months and didn’t get one interview?
Thanks for sharing.
@@TempeSoldier123 only handful of interviews all feedback i received was the automated email reply of rejections
@@ProfessorHeatherAustin Your shared template worked i landed a job and will start in a few days. Thank you for your video and tips🙏
@TempeSoldier123 happening right now to me 🤷♂️ at least 5 a day
This should be illegal. This ATS is why I have not gotten an interview in 9 months of searching for a job!!
For real! This is beyond sad!
You really have to ask yourself, do you want to work for a company that hires this way.? Everyone I have got hired from and was decent job with great pay and benefits, reads the resume old school or old school Interview
Scary isn`t it. You basically have to lie your way in. This is only going to lead to ppl in jobs that they don`t match because they lie their way in. This system is bound to backfire and distcriminate. Why not hire ppl woth potential instead of ppl that are supposedly a 100% match .-."
Yes. People are lying. Yes. Companies are discriminating. Even more now cause its legal on their end. They won't tell you that. But they do.
@@brendaechols5929How are they discriminate?
Man vs ATS. Big problem here is that folks who actually manage to beat the system and get an interview will not be able to execute. I've lost 3 months of searching before realising its not me, its machine. Time to crack the code.
Professor Austin's techniques and advices are exceptional, learn and leverage these lessons and you will see many positive results in interviews requests and job offers. She's one of the best to ever do it.
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! Your encouragement means a lot, and I'm here to keep providing insights that help. Here's to more interview requests and job offers coming your way!
Just a heads up, multiple states now are also running AI search algorithms on your resumes. They immediately discount anyone who's running a straight AI written resume.

That's actually interesting.
How do they know it's AI-written?! 😆 The whole point of AI is to emulate human behavior.
So they wish to be able to use AI to make their job easier, but punish us for doing the same? This is America..

Thank you for providing the GPT prompts, template and guidance. It is unfortunate that these measures are necessary to just get a foot in the door. If culture eats strategy for breakfast and the imposter syndrome has confidence for lunch, then ATS dine on career achievement for dinner...
I love. Hr all functionalities I read each resume don't use tracking system. Including as each resume represents a unique individual who like most people do feels proud of their resume puts lots of thought and care into preparing it I learn so much about a person from their resumes they are stories about the person.. I recommend to employers that they spend money on paying hr to read resumes many do many benefits to employers too. Most people prepare thoughtful resumes
I am surprised to see resumes in your video showing photos of candidates. An HR person told me years ago "a resume with a photo on it opens us up to being sued because of how the candidate looked. A photo on a resume goes straight to the delete folder." Makes sense.
I don't appreciate that you told us that your resources are free but then we couldn't download them without registering for your special course 😢

What about if you’re an expert in all aspects of digital marketing and Omni-channel as it pertains to resume AND LinkedIn? I know we have to tailor each résumé to a job description, but how do we attach a résumé to LinkedIn that doesn’t exclude us when they view our LinkedIn profile and coming across as overqualified, etc. or whatever reason?
In other words, best practice is to attach your résumé to LinkedIn, but the tailored résumé is sent to the employer.
And in that case, which is more important? Optimizing LinkedIn first or which type of résumé or how specific of the résumé should we put down? (think of the chicken or the egg first).
I’ve done the same job in multiple industries and have multiple specializations and certifications, which apply cross industry. which is one of the reasons why I went into digital marketing to begin with I think this is just why I am in paralysis right now
For example and I apologize for the multiple posts, I can be an Email Director, but also Director of Omni channel, traditional and digital marketing as well both of which I’m interested in. But even to get my first job in the industry way back when I had a dumb down my résumé, even to get a phone call back. So I’m not sure where to start. I have experience in nonprofits, was an executive producer for the digital department of multiple broadcast new stations, contractor for a fortune 50 Company under contract for six months before Covid happened and others
So we are supposed to come up with these metrics how does one know they reduced backlog by 20%
I also talked to one of the people who hires, he said when we write the percentage, the recruiter knows it is not true as there is no way to determine that.
Great video, thank you for the tips
Thank you so much.
You're welcome!
Professor Austin,
why do resumes shown in this video include candidate pictures, contrary to your strong advice against this?
Lol! Great question. My video editors live in another country. They do their best to gather b-roll to use in the videos. You're absolutely correct though. No headshots on resumes. Thanks so much for bringing this up! I so appreciate you.
Thank you for sharing these tips. Can you make a video about how to use AI to write section criteria?

being writing resume without follow ats format... and wasted many weekend. ATS is a gate keeper and without passing it your skills and experience never get looked at. We seriously need Artificial general intelligence to replce the ineffective talent teams.

Glad it was helpful!
Hi Heather. Thank you for the video. I have one question, though.
About the free ATS-compatible resume thatbyou have shown around the mark 5:11, are the section headers a 1x1 table or simply typed and underlined text? I ask, cos from what i have heard, tables are not read well by ATSs.
Thank you
To recruiters, know that using ATS might feel like an intelligent move, but it is not. Earlier, when such a system was not being used, lot of people who may not have been a 100% match, however, had great skills and potential could be hired. But now with the ATS, a system with pre-defined criteria is deciding whether to pass a candidate or not. This is stupid and ineffective.
Now a lot of people who may do a great job in a position despite lack of "credentials"/"degrees" are umable to get a job cos there is no competent human at the other end who may have the wisdom to see the potential of that candidate and give them a chance!!

Had someone run my resume through ATS. It identified a degree I don’t possess in an area I am
Not qualified to work in (IT) and have no experience in. ATI said I have no education…. I have a doctrinal level degree…. The only thing it got correct was my damn name …. Seems like ATS is shit
The template is not free! fake advertising!
you the best..
Professor Austin,
why do resumes shown in this video include candidate pictures, contrary to your strong advice against this?
Lol! My video editors live in another country. Since this video, they've stopped adding b-roll with headshots on resumes. Definitely do not include a headshot on your resume unless you live in a country that advises it.
Apparently, to get the "free" resume template, we have to buy some kind of tool from your website. If you are offering something for free, it should be genuinely free without hidden requirements. Why advertise it as free if it actually requires a purchase? This is misleading and disappointing.
Good information
Why does it have to be like this. I literally hate thie.
Hi Sarah! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. So sorry to hear you're not loving the resume writing process and the ATS system. What position are you currently wanting to land?
@ProfessorHeatherAustin Funny enough, I used to be an employment specialist and worked for Beacon Group based in Tucson. That was before 2020, though. Since then, I have struggled greatly to maintain employment myself. Later, I was laid off for a second time due to covid. Then, at another job, I was fired due to reporting a co-worker for abuse and fraud. She was really good friends with the owners of the company and made everyone miserable around her. I have never had an issue like that before in employment, so that has been challenging for me to get over this year. I never thought I would be fired. Despite my knowledge and previous experience, I am currently like a deer in headlights. I have been spending my days deeply depressed and bed rotting. I have been of no use to anyone, and I am "frozen" when it comes to applying to positions / updating my resume. I can't force myself to move forward even though I am in a desperate spot and am living off the charity of others. I need help. I have bad adhd, and that is definitely affecting me with this process. I have management experience and experience working with persons with disabilities, but idk if I want to go back into that field. Tbh, I am just not sure what I want to do. I do think I would like to work from home. I currently live in Glendale, AZ.
I filled the form with my email address to get the template mailed to me but there is no file being sent to my email.
Hi Amber! Thanks for reaching out. If you're not seeing the resume template and example in your inbox, please email me at heather@professoraustin.com and my team will send it straight to you.
I have sets of embedded tables for presetnations reasons. Are these tables causing ATS to reject my resume?
What are your thoughts on formatting a resume by job vs by topic so that you can add for example all of your project management together and all of your qualifications together.
Great video! Thx
Hi! Great question. The format of your resume should align with your career narrative and how you want to present your experience to future employers. Formatting by job (chronologically) is traditional and works well for those with a linear career path. It allows employers to see your progression and development over time within different roles. However, if you have a diverse range of experiences or are looking to highlight specific skills, a functional resume (by topic) can be more effective. Have you tested both methods for yourself?
@@ProfessorHeatherAustin I have tested both. When you have multiple jobs (I'm a teacher) that are essentially the same but in different districts, it's difficult to create a resume that shows the same thing over and over again. (Sometimes the job doesn't change from district to district). For this reason I broke my resume into sections such as Leadership, Project Management, Customer Success, etc..
This is insane
Why do some ATS CV/Resume state to list education before experience? Is there a different template for a CV? I am a nurse educator and just cannot get any response from submitted applications?
Hi Heather. I was wondering what your thoughts are on changing a job title on a resume? I had a job a few years ago in which 33% - 50% of my work was as a social media manager, but my official title was intake specialist. Would it be ok for me to change the title on my resume to Social Media Manager when applying for that type of role?
How would they know? I guess they would know only if they ask you about an other aspect of social media management that you are unaware of and didn't do in that job... just make sure you know 100% of the responsibilities of a SMM and maybe you can be honest and say which part of the job you did/didn;t do as long as you justify it. Or maybe you can change it and use a "/" Intake specialist/Social Media Manager. This is less misleading and you'll feel better about it if you need to justify it.
I did a few weeks in a recruitment company and thought I could stretch it and lie so I could get into another recruitment place, basically I got absolutely GRILLED in the interview when the guy started asking me about other stuff that I didn't do in the couple of weeks + had no idea about. funny enough when it came to money, I had no idea what a proper recruitment specialist was supposed to make. The guy looked like Peter Griffin and was equally as witty. SUPER GRILLED. learned from mistakes.
I have a question. What of you make a resume on Canva? It's simple writing on white background but only has a simple design border background? Is that ok?
Should a resume be always blank and plain, but with one accent color usually?
blank and plain. just easier. looks better. serves the purpose.
yeah the template not free
why would anyone want their pic on their resume (unless it is required)

I have applied to many many jobs with the AI that you spoke about, but still not getting calls. I am getting dear John letters, though. How do I fix this? I was told it may be because I have had too many jobs. 😢
Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about your challenges in the job search. If you've had a number of different jobs, it's important to focus your resume on the skills and experiences most relevant to the positions you're applying for now. Try using a functional or hybrid resume format, which emphasizes skills and achievements over a chronological job history. Also, ensure your cover letter effectively communicates your career narrative and how your diverse experiences make you a unique and valuable candidate. Remember, every application is a learning opportunity. Keep refining your approach, and stay persistent. The right opportunity is out there for you!
I am of the same, I went through a period where I changed jobs every few months. Understand that you may not need to list every single job ever. Also understand who you're dealing with, these are tired HR people SKIMMING through your resume pretty quickly after it's gone through ATS, they won't pay attention to dates, as long as they loosley match up thats good enough.
I don't include all my jobs. depending on what job I am applying for a have a few that I include and a few that I remove, and of the one's i include i simply stretch the starting and finishing dates so that it is all somewhat and loosley cohesive.
FYI your template is exactly what AI uses to generate resumes. So now they all look like fake ai generated spam. All to the bottom of the stack.
Is ChatGPT free?
Don't send in your email to get the template. Her shitty sales funnel set up dumps you on to some page where it perpetually sits at "80% complete", like there is something going on besides just sending a damn template. No template. Shitty AI customer service chat didn't do anything either. Not in my inbox or spam. There are plenty of free templates available from sites that don't play these shitty marketing games.
Hi there! I'm sorry to hear the template didn't make it to your inbox. Did you enter the correct email address.
