Thanks for making this! I had difficulties in the execution itself (got a couple cuts from raw edges, had several hard-to-access fasteners) but the next step was never a question. Excellent video!
Not every dishwasher is the same, but the concept is pretty universal. Bottom of dishwashers are no joke as the manufacturer keeps a lot of the metal down there pretty raw and feel no need to sand any corners or edges. Glad you got it figured out!!! I bet it looks great!
Great Video! I appreciate the fact that you get right to the point without telling me about the weather in your area or showing me your dog or cat;). We’ll Done Sir!

Thank you sooooo much... I am a single mom and me and my kids don't know the first thing about installing appliances... This video was a life saver... But I must admit it was SUPER hard... The old dish washer was outdated and everything was difficult to take off...
Nice job!! Every dishwasher is different but this is the jist of what needs to happen. So glad this helped. Kudos to you doing something that could be intimidating to others!! Woo! You did it!
It is encouraging to see that people have made this happen. My hubby ordered it fast enough but now it's just sitting there. So I need to take a breath and get this done. I'm not particularly mechanically minded but I can follow directions and copy. Here's hoping I can find the tools I need in the hoarder shed. 🎉
@BobbiGail you got this. Take it one step at a time. I know I go fast but pause it, go back, re watch, and next thing you know you'll be done. Maybe 2 to 3 hours, but you got this!!
Got it, easy-peasy. My issue was I didn't know if the new water inlet attachment needed teflon or not. I seen it doesn't, thanks. Wonderful video and great commentary.
Loved the straightforward, easy-to-follow approach. Still trying to figure out why I have power but can't get the dishwasher to start and run. Certain I missed something along the process. Probably going to redo; but it will be much quicker the second time.
So frustrating when the panel description doesn't match up with the actual breakers. Sometimes the panel is put on upside down. If all else fails, you can process of elimination and find out what breaker really is tied to the dishwasher. Be careful! Use the voltage tester
@@ColtonCrumpDIY No, we figured out the panel, found the right breaker, managed to not electrocute myself. But after I finished installing, turned the breaker back on, has power, lights up. Won't start. So, yeah, fiddling again. Seems to be balanced, but I'm double-checking everything again.
Excellent, especially for being concise. Shows every step close-up. I recommend using teflon tape on all water connections. Save a couple hundred bucks by DIY.
I didn't this time as everything looked good and was already pretty tight with no leaks. Would recommend for any threads that you're not able to get as tight as you would have hoped or there is that concern of leaking outside of the threads.
Thank you Colton so much for this video. You covered everything I need to get the job done plus the tools I need to accomplish the installation. Bravo!
Boo ya! Best of luck! If your dishwasher is a plug in instead of hard wired, keep that in mind that it would be a plug into the wall or your protected outlet in the dishwasher area. Thanks for watching and commenting!
1 small tip before you reconnect the old water line. Flush it. Just turn the valve on slightly for a few seconds and put something under to catch the water. This just makes sure nothing nasty gets in the new washer line. If you’re using a new line no need! But great video!
Colton, you forgot the absolute most important step! Always always always test before touch! Verify that the power is off with a voltmeter or test light before de-terminating the power leads!
You are right. I did forget to mention to test with a multimeter, or something similar or as simple as a test light. Test it out and make sure the voltage has stopped from the wires. I usually do pretty well at mentioning this but I forgot to add it in this one. Thanks for the comment!
If you have a dishwasher that was installed with a cord that plugs into an outlet and had a licensed professional install it, likely the outlet is protected and you should be fine to replace your dishwasher by unplugging it then ensuring your new dishwasher has a plug that also plugs into the same outlet
You might of just saved my life! My wife just got a new dishwasher and I turned off the breaker labeled dishwasher. Turns out it was still getting electricity.
It's really up to you. My general rule of thumb is if I'm connecting something that is metal on metal, being connected to a metal pipe or there is for sure a ton of pressure to that line, then yeah. One could argue that all water lines have high pressure, but there are still some lines that have more pressure than others.
That star looking bit is called a torx screw. This should do www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-SHOCKWAVE-Impact-Duty-Alloy-Steel-Torx-Security-Screw-Driver-Bit-Set-10-Piece-48-32-4618/302766777 or there are other sets you can buy with a variety of bits. I put a link of all the tools I used in the description.
Ok so I have this one coming next week and I dont have an old one. Did you say it wipl have a drain hose? At purchase, the inlet hose and all was suggested so i have that cominf but not a hose.
So there is a drain hose but it may not be long enough to get to your disposal. It all depends on how close your dishwasher is to your disposal. You might need to buy more hose and then 2 clamps
Lol! Colton, what an awesome surprise to land on this video! It’s Sharon from the Ostock days 😁😁👍👍 thanks for the DIY tip, I’m remodeling my kitchen in my super Sugar House bungalow.

Great question. I didn't. The dishwasher was upright as normal when I connected the power wires. A lot of time on my side and stomach. I put the dishwasher on its back when I wanted to attach the water line and inspect it to see if it was still good.
Took about 2 hours because I had a lot of water in my line so I thought the water was still on. I mean it had to have been about 2 gallons of water left in the line. I was freaking out a bit trying not to flood my kitchen but all good. Thanks for the tutorial fam
1:08 or you may have a switch on you kitchen wall to turn off power to the dishwasher. This was very helpful but i had other hurdles when I did mine yesterday. The water line was a corroded copper tube going to L joint on DW. I couldn't tell which to losen because of all the corrosion. So I undid from under sink instead. But then knob was not all the way off and I got water under sink. then after I hooked up DW to water under sink the knob joint started leaking so I had to tighten that , i may have to replace that. Then my drain hose clamp i had on old one was too big so now i have to go to store to get another clamp.
I’m trying to muster up the courage to do this today. I misunderstood the delivery option on my new dishwasher and I was left standing there in my kitchen wondering how the heck I am supposed to get this accomplished. Your video has made me feel a little better. Now to decide if I need some lunch before I tackle this! Wish me luck.
Grab some lunch, maybe a snack, if you eat too much you might justify taking a nap or be too full and motivation is gone. Haha. Best of luck. You got this!
A great video! I need to remove my dishwasher and this clearly shows how. thanks. By the way, can I just unplug the electrical cord from the wall socket instead of turning off the breaker?
Yes so if you have a dishwasher that has just the wall plug instead of rewiring you can just unplug it and then make sure your next dishwasher has a plug
@@ColtonCrumpDIY Thank you for the clarification. My breakers do not have clear labels and I did not want the hassle of going through all the circuits.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching and commenting! 😄 and glad I was able to help save you $200 Put that towards something fun for Christmas for yourself :)
Hey Jay! So I personally wouldn't mess with anything in apartment buildings because those are often owned by someone or a company. The maintenance team/ person should be the one to fix it and I would highly recommend working through the landlord before any type of home improvement project like this is started. Now if you own an apartment within a building, I would triple check that you are allowed to make these changes without any backlash. If all of that has been done, then often times yes, these same steps would apply, it would be just a question of your breaker box location to ensure you don't get electrocuted and you have access to shut your water valves
I’m just installing an older, used Hobart D/W in my tiny house. After locating the wires, I’ve decided to install a plug-in cord to the dedicated 20 a receptacle behind the d/w. Also, since the used d/w didn’t come with any hoses, I’m putting in a new water supply hose and a new drain hose. The issues I have are matching sizes of the connection points. I believe that the fill hose is 3/8” with a 1/2” female connector. The drain hose will fit the existing clamp connection but the other end is larger than the sink trap tailpiece. So I’m trying to figure how to remedy that. I won’t have a garbage disposal, but will install and air gap under the sink.
Have you checked your local home hardware store to see if they have an adapter? Or Amazon even. Just the make sure you get some clamps or pvc cleaner/glue. Did you also make sure your D/W is on a Gfci line? By code they need to be.
Im planning to buy a new dishwasher. My apartment has an old GE potscrubber 600, which is pretty old. Do all dishwasher have the same measurement or they all different?
Great video, but always make sure you just turn your hot water valve off to the whole house , cause in most houses and all older houses the shut off valve isn’t just under the sink, in my case I just about flooded the kitchen and sent a significant amount of water to the basement. Cleaning it up as we speak. Just be safe and turn it all off.
You can shorten them but you need them to be as long as you need in order to take the dishwasher out. If you have access to the back of the dishwasher when it's fully installed and can shorten it, then go for it. But anyone else that needs to roll out the dishwasher needs to be long enough to do so.
Seems easy. What if you don't want to install a new washer right now? What can you use to close or seal the water hose until you're ready for a new washer?
Definitely not a difficult job to do. If you already have a dish washer there and don't want to install a new one, I'd just leave the old dishwasher. Use that as your seal. If the space is empty, just make sure the water valve is turned to the off position for the dishwasher and then for the disposal hook up, there are plugs you can get to close that off. It's just 3/4" so get a rubber 3/4" plug. Something like this amzn.to/3hWaSBa
@@ColtonCrumpDIY The old dish washer stopped working ten years ago. When I turn the dial to start a cycle, it just buzzes. No water enters the unit. I wanted to remove it so I could use the extra space, but if you recommend using it as my seal, I'll leave it alone until I'm ready to purchase a new washer. I appreciate your expertise.
Gotcha. I have the mindset of if something isn't broken don't go try fixing it. If you're getting by with the old one there, I'd leave it. If you for sure want to use that space and remove it, then disconnect the wiring (make sure to flip the breaker before and test) then I'd make sure the water supply is turned off (and it is its own line and that off position doesn't impact any other water lines like your sink faucet), then detach the drain hose at the garbage disposal under your sink then purchase a rubber plug and close up that punch out on your disposal. 85% of the time water won't come out of this, but when you're using your disposal or water builds up, then it can be an issue so plugging that and ensuring that plug stays is key. Best of luck! Let me know if you have more questions
Thank you so much. Was having trouble trying to figure out how to do this "hard-wired" thing. This was perfectly right on. Good job explaining it. Thanks. 👍
If the distance is pretty significant, I would level all 4 so it's close and then you can do the front a tiny bit more. You don't want water pooling unnecessarily when trying to drain and dispose of the waste. Just remember that gravity plays a big part in where the water pools and will settle at the low point.

Thank you very much! I appreciate the compliment as this is what I strive for. Straight to the point. Thanks again for watching and commenting
I will be attempting to install my new dishwasher today. I hope all goes well. I wanted to watch first to see how difficult this will be. Seems easy to follow. Thank you!
You are welcome! Not all dishwashers are exactly the same but this demonstration can be followed fairly closely and the principles are generally the same. Best of luck! Let me know how it goes! Thanks for watching and commenting
This was a big help! My regular plumber wasn't available and I was so tired of washing dishes by hand. (Old dishwasher broke)
Glad it helped!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Got it, easy-peasy. My issue was I didn't know if the new water inlet attachment needed teflon or not. I seen it doesn't, thanks. Wonderful video and great commentary.
Thank you thank you! Glad this helped. Thanks for watching and mentioning it helped. 🤙
This video was immensely helpful in replacing my old dishwasher with a new one. Thanks for making!!
Thank you for watching and commenting! Glad you found it helpful :)
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Didn’t need to wait for the install guys anymore.
You are welcome!! Thanks for watching and commenting! Hopefully saved you some money
Thanks for the video. You made it so simple and easy.
Thank you so much!! Appreciate you watching and commenting!!
@Dunadan44 best of luck. Stay safe 🤙
Very clear and concise! Bravo!
Thank you!! Appreciate the watch and compliment 🤙
Excellent, especially for being concise. Shows every step close-up. I recommend using teflon tape on all water connections. Save a couple hundred bucks by DIY.
Good recommendation! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Easy like Sunday morning😂😂 thanks for the video

Absolutely epic video! I’ve never installed a dishwasher before and your video made it sooooo easy! Thank you! Keep the great videos coming!
Thanks James!!! Great work and thanks for watching and commenting!
This was really well done. I suspected it would be super easy to change a dishwasher. Appreciate the tutorial and validation.
You bet!! Best of luck!! Thanks for watching
Thank you no dishwasher no house but I’m sure when I get those things this video will be a great help due to the great teacher
Very kind of you to say! Appreciate it and one day you will have a house with a dishwasher!!!
Great concise video. No thread seal when connecting the water pipe?
I didn't this time as everything looked good and was already pretty tight with no leaks. Would recommend for any threads that you're not able to get as tight as you would have hoped or there is that concern of leaking outside of the threads.
Thank you Colton so much for this video. You covered everything I need to get the job done plus the tools I need to accomplish the installation. Bravo!
Thanks Alan!! So glad this video helped. Thank you for watching and commenting!!
Got my new dishwasher in tonight! Thanks for the video! Helped a lot!
You got it! Best of luck!! Thanks for watching and glad this helped
Getting a new dishwasher in a few days and I'll be using this video every step of the way. Thanks!
Boo ya! Best of luck! If your dishwasher is a plug in instead of hard wired, keep that in mind that it would be a plug into the wall or your protected outlet in the dishwasher area. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you so much! Followed this to the tee and everything went fantastic.
Hey oh! Nice to hear! Thank you for watching and glad it worked for you.
Simply amazing video! I normally don’t comment but I had to let you know that I enjoyed it. Thanks
Thank you!!! I appreciate the watch and comment! 😀
1 small tip before you reconnect the old water line. Flush it. Just turn the valve on slightly for a few seconds and put something under to catch the water. This just makes sure nothing nasty gets in the new washer line. If you’re using a new line no need! But great video!
Ooo Great tip! I'll add that to the steps next time I do this. Thank you so much!!
Excellent, this video makes me feel comfortable changing one out, gonna give it a whirl!
Best of luck! You got this! If there is any hesitation or question on what needs to be done, don't hesitate to ask. Make sure the power is off.
@@ColtonCrumpDIY will do, I’ve already learned that lesson a long time ago, one I won’t forget 😂
My dishwasher plugged into the wall. Should I check the breaker too? I bought a dishwasher and had them install it.
If you have a dishwasher that was installed with a cord that plugs into an outlet and had a licensed professional install it, likely the outlet is protected and you should be fine to replace your dishwasher by unplugging it then ensuring your new dishwasher has a plug that also plugs into the same outlet
An easier way: Very first thing to do is switch off circuit breaker. Then turn on dishwasher. If it doesn't light up, you have cut off the power.
You might of just saved my life! My wife just got a new dishwasher and I turned off the breaker labeled dishwasher. Turns out it was still getting electricity.
Doing my first installation job today, this video was a big help thanks!
Awesome!! Hope it goes well!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Laying it on its back for installation...was a new one for me, thanks! 😄
Thank you man, couldn't have done it without you.
Love that this helped! Thanks for watching
Excellent video. Right to the point and with great humorous comments. We’ll done!
Thank you!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Do you recommend PTFE on the fresh water connection?
It's really up to you. My general rule of thumb is if I'm connecting something that is metal on metal, being connected to a metal pipe or there is for sure a ton of pressure to that line, then yeah. One could argue that all water lines have high pressure, but there are still some lines that have more pressure than others.
Great video! What word am I looking for to order a set of bits that includes the hard to find stars and other shapes?
@ColtonCrumpDIY thank you so much. And you're right I need a hose extender. Have a wonderful day!
You also!!
Lol! Colton, what an awesome surprise to land on this video! It’s Sharon from the Ostock days 😁😁👍👍 thanks for the DIY tip, I’m remodeling my kitchen in my super Sugar House bungalow.
Ha ha hey Shazzy! No problem, thanks for checking out my video! Nice to hear from someone I know in person! Good luck on the remodel! I'll try to keep my DIY videos going for you to reference if there are any other projects :)
Short, sweet, and to the point. Nice work and thanks for the helpful video!
That's what I strive for! Thanks Ryan! Appreciate you watching and commenting.
Thanks Colton! This really helped. Followed every steps and just successfully replaced my dishwasher.
Woo hoo!!! I'd call that a win! I'm so glad Rothmans406!!! Easy right? Congrats on the project completion.
@@ColtonCrumpDIY Totally! The new dishwasher has been sitting in the garage for over a month. I saw your video today and it gave me the confidence I needed. I Thanks to your video, i'm going to attemt to remove my old dishwasher today to prepare for the arrival of our new one. Wish me luck! 👍😊
Good luck Fredda! You got this!!
Colton-Crump DIY I keep you posted! ❤
Did you have the new dishwasher on its side when you connected the power wires? Thanks! video was amazing at explaining everything
Great question. I didn't. The dishwasher was upright as normal when I connected the power wires. A lot of time on my side and stomach. I put the dishwasher on its back when I wanted to attach the water line and inspect it to see if it was still good.
Straight to the point, very detail.. 👍.. thanks..

This is awesome! Best step by step video I've seen. I'll definitely be using this. Thanks so much!
Thank you! Appreciate the compliment and you checking out my video!! :)
Perfect. Sunday morning well spent !!
Nice job!! Woo! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Took about 2 hours because I had a lot of water in my line so I thought the water was still on. I mean it had to have been about 2 gallons of water left in the line. I was freaking out a bit trying not to flood my kitchen but all good. Thanks for the tutorial fam
Whew glad it worked out!
Thank you Colten. Fun and very informative video.
Thanks @ethanfiedler2767! Appreciate the comment and watching!
Also true. Even still I like to go to the breaker box and flip the switch for safety.
Did you get it installed without killing yourself?
@@planetfabulous5833 it's been 3 months. Should we send help? LoL
Very detailed explanation although some parts I had to stop it because he went really fast but overall very helpful, I’ll give it a try 😱

Thank you you just saved me 200$ from the Home Depot installation ❤
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching and commenting! 😄 and glad I was able to help save you $200 Put that towards something fun for Christmas for yourself :)
Great video! Is this method safe for apartment buildings as well?
Thanks, your video was the easiest one to follow!
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!!
Excellent DIY video. I think you just saved me a $200 installation cost.
Woo! Best of luck and thanks for watching and commenting. Thank you!
This is my new project 🎉🎉🎉
You got this!!!
@ColtonCrumpDIY OMG thanks for the encouragement 💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿
Test that the wires are not hot before touching them! it's very easy to turn off the wrong breaker ! Helpful video overall.
It's like roulette, touch it and no shock, you're good! Haha thanks for watching and commenting Riley!
Thanks for the video. Very helpful.

Im planning to buy a new dishwasher. My apartment has an old GE potscrubber 600, which is pretty old. Do all dishwasher have the same measurement or they all different?
They aren't always the same. I'd measure out your space and see what space you're able to play with.
Thanks for doing this video, just took out my dishwasher, thanks to you, and will get my new one tomorrow. Thanks!
Thanks for watching and commenting! Best of luck on the install of your new one!!
Thank you for your time 😎
You're welcome! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great tip! Thanks Ben! Everyone listen to Ben!!! ^^
is it ok to leave the hoses that long? Would they operate better if you shorten them?
You can shorten them but you need them to be as long as you need in order to take the dishwasher out. If you have access to the back of the dishwasher when it's fully installed and can shorten it, then go for it. But anyone else that needs to roll out the dishwasher needs to be long enough to do so.
Nice and simple! If you can’t be handsome be handy. Let’s gooo
That's why I try to lean to be more handy! Lol thank you for watching and commenting 🤙
Nice. Short and sweet. Perfect

They have a kit w/ the hose, wire, nuts, and clamps for a dishwasher
Very nicely put together and very helpful! Thanks my friend!
Thanks David!! Appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching!
Do you have to level all four or just the front if the dishwasher is a long way from the counter?
If the distance is pretty significant, I would level all 4 so it's close and then you can do the front a tiny bit more. You don't want water pooling unnecessarily when trying to drain and dispose of the waste. Just remember that gravity plays a big part in where the water pools and will settle at the low point.
