in Fairness in Star wars both Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman where bodyguard and queen and was meant to look the same. Just because people have other things on their mind, things they consider important, like surviving and trying to avoid homelessness or raising their kids while working two jobs, is no reason for them to suffer. I get what you’re saying, there are those that just don’t care and do not vote, but that’s no excuse to say they all deserve it. That saying is one without empathy or understanding. No one deserves to live a shitty life just because they have no interest in the candidates, many think their vote won’t matter, exactly because it’s so corrupt. That doesn’t make it okay, and makes it seem like you have given up just as they have. If we all deserve it, what’s the point in trying to make it better? Guess we just live with it and say fuck it.

Vi Veri Vniversum Vivus Vici was not from Faust. That was a misdirect. "I, with Truth, have conquered the Universe while living" was the Master of the Temple motto of Aleister Crowley and the graphic novelist who created V worked with Thelema, Crowley's spiritual path. The Count of Monte Cristo gives a parallel that helps understand this particular story. This motto of five Vs is linked to the Guy Fawkes fifth of November and November is the 11th month with 11 being a basic number of Magick in Crowley's system.
Another message of this story, aside from the power of truth, is that we can only teach in the way that we have learned.

Okay. Here's a point in _this_ movie that makes me misty. Dr. Surridge sees death coming. You could _almost_ say she's literally staring into its _face._ How does she respond?
Is there fear? Does she _prostrate_ herself in an effort to illicit sympathy and plead with him to be _spared?_ No.
Is there indignation, where she presumes to argue that the experiments she was part of were, in some way, _justified?_ No.
She _apologizes._ She expresses _remorse._ She _admits_ what she has done, recognizes that it was _without_ justification and she _apologizes._

    Hi BissCute.
The 5th November references are to the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. The plot was to blow up the Houses of Parliament on the State Opening of Parliament
That's an occasion when not only every member of Parliament is present but the king and most of the royal family is present.
The plot was by a small group of Catholic rebels. At the time Catholics in England were discriminated against. Their idea was to destroy the entire English ruling class in one stroke and then to lead a Catholic uprising and take over England.
However the plot was discovered on November 5th when the one of the plotters called Guy Fawkes was discovered under parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder.
Ever since the foiling of the plot November 5th has been celebrated in Britain with bonfires and fireworks. The night is sometimes called Guy Fawkes Night.
However I should point out that Guy Fawkes wasn't actually the leader of the plot. Tge leader was a man called Robert Catesby.
An interesting fact is that Catesby was an ancestor of the actor Kit Harrington who most people know as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones.
Harrington actually starred in a series called Gunpowder where he played his ancestor

There was a King who had everything a man could strive for. His achievements were many and his failures were few. There were grandiose stories, documenting his many glories. But none as somber as the one I tell you now. His kingdom was vast, reaching from sea to sea. They called him a conqueror, a liberator and even a god to be. He charged into every battle, fearless and ruthless, never fleeing and always victorious. His wife of many years had given him three sons to carry on his name. The people would chant 'long live the king' and may his dynasty forever reign. This King did things no one thought possible, amassing great riches and fame across the nation. No army, no castle, no man stood a chance against him. Until he came across the simple river in the woodlands. This river did not care for his titles, his might or his status. And despite his best efforts, the river opposed him. The King had no reason to cross the river other than pride, but that was enough for him to become crazed in the eye. He braved the fiercest storms and survived the most vicious battles, but this river somehow stopped him. His servants could hear him cry out in the night. Angel, angel what have I done? I've faced the quakes, the wind, the fire. I've conquered country, crown and throne. Why can't I cross this river?. Whispers began to spread of the king, people joked that a mere body of water had bested their mighty ruler. He grew obsessed with that river, driven to cross it at any and all costs. He had his builders build a bridge, but the river took it down. He had his soldiers brave the current, but all were lost and drowned. He had his priests pray for God's assistance, but none was ever given. Each time, they were repelled by the river and with every attempt, the king grew more agitated. He had his learned friends research the history of the river, but they found nothing of note. It was a simple river, nothing more, they urged. The King's sons constantly squabbled over the throne that would one day be theirs and saw the river as an opportunity to win their father's favor. The eldest son was the bravest and he stepped boldly into the current, but his valor could not save his life from the raging water. The middle son was intelligent and built a contraption to get across, but it failed and he was washed away with his creation. The youngest was lazy and had the river filled with boulders, but they gave way as soon as he stepped upon them. The King's three sons perished in that water and it was too much for the queen to bear, so on the night of the final funeral, she threw herself into the river. The King's obsession with the river only worsened as he drained his kingdom of all its resources in an effort to find a way to the other side. His people started to turn against him as his sanity unraveled. Those most loyal assured they'd think no less of him if he were to give up this foolhardy pursuit. But he continued to refuse. A fortnight after his wife had thrown away her life, the kingdom was gathered on the bank as the King proclaimed he would cross it himself, ordering no one to come to his aide. He believed the river to be alive and that it was testing his resolve . And on the morning of that fateful day, he was ready to risk it all. But as he prepared for the dangerous trek, a peasant girl slipped and fell in. She gripped onto a rock as the river fought hard to pull her all the way in. She cried and she screamed, but the King remained still, uncaring for her young life. But then a boy in rags stepped forward, calling out for the girl who he named his sister. He tried jumping in, but was grabbed by a soldier and told he would perish, but the boy kept trying to get to her. 'If I am to die then I will die, but I will not stand idly by,' the boy boldly proclaimed. And so he dove in, that peasant boy with no name. The crowd watched in awe as he arose from the thunderous current, his feet gripping the muck that lie beneath the surface. With all his strength, he pulled himself across and snatched his sister from the slippery wet rocks. When they made it to the other side, the King shouted witchcraft and demanded that the boy must die. His archers looked around, but did not raise their bows. He shouted and shouted, but no one did as they were told. The King was alone, feeling betrayed. And in a fit of rage, he jumped into the river, following that peasant boy with no name. He thrashed around & grunted as he pushed his way across, but just as he reached the other side, he met the young boy's gaze. The boy reached out to give the King a hand, the King who had just demanded his life. The angry King scoffed and pushed him away, grabbing a nearby tree branch to haul himself onto the river bank. The branch, well it snapped and the river sucked him back in. The crowd let out a gasp, but not a single one jumped in. As the water pushed the King beneath its waves and he took his final breath, he dwelled on all that he had lost in the recent past. His crown, his people, his wealth and his lands. His kingdom, his family and his legacy with them. This river had taken his mind and on that fateful day, the river would claim his life. And as he sank below the raging current, he saw one final sight... That peasant boy with no name and his sister by his side. Now they tell stories about that river and the nameless boy who dared to cross it. They sing of a king who was once called great, but the river in the woodlands had stolen all he attained. To this day, only those of pure heart can cross the humbling river, all others will be swept away.

For me it gets 5 stars.. but perhaps I am influenced by having read George Orwell's 1984 that inspired Alan Moore's graphic novel V For Vendetta. The book is a very dystopian future United Kingdom that Orwell predicted in 1948 that had some very prescient ideas about the future. The graphic novel is much more anarchic - Moore relished the downfall of society. This film has the plot of the graphic novel but the tone is closer to the book in many ways. As a whodunit it is predictable, but that isn't what it's about. The subtexts about power, manipulation and control and what can be done about it are what is important - in my humble opinion.

By the way, Larkhill is an English Army Base on Salisbury Plain, near Stonehenge. Home of the Royal Artillery Training (officially). I planted Oak trees around there many years ago. However, there used to be way more security around the place than was necessary for an Army training facility, so there were often rumours about what really went on there. Considering it wasn't that far from another secret base, Porton Down, that was infamous for its experiments in Chemical and biological warfare. I think that may have been part of the reasoning for setting this fictional experimental facility there

This movie is a top 20 non animated movie for me, maybe top 10 as well. Hugo Weaving is exceptional as V. I'm very intrigued by the notion that V might be Valerie, since the experimentation at the facility was apparently hormone therapy.

This movie has some stellar actors: Natalie Portman (Black Swan, Leon, Garden State, Beautiful Girls, Thor), John Hurt (Alien, 1984, Space Balls, Harry Potter, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Hugo Weaving (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Matrix, Captain America), and the incomparable Stephen Fry (A Fish Called Wanda, I.Q., Black Adder, A Bit of Fry & Laurie, host of Qi). -Celluloid is a highly combustible type of film that was used for older movies; in 1937 there was a massive fire in Fox's film vault destroying most movies made before that (that's why it's so rare to see older movies), another in 1965 at MGM's vault but they'd copied a lot of their older movies, so most but not all survived. Over the last 15-20 years theaters have been switching to digital, so celluloid is rare. -Fingers are what they're calling that gov'ts agents... like the fingers of the gov't hand.

There are some details you missed that would help explain some of the parts that confused you. You did catch that V was Evie's captor faster than most people though so kudos for that.
It's worthwhile to watch it again. You can catch stuff you might have missed.
Oh, in the part where V was shot up...note that he is stronger than the average person. That combined with the steel plate makes that scene a bit easier to understand. Also note that movies tend to overplay how much impact a bullet has. Honestly, the portrayal here is probably more accurate than most movies.
Finally, the message at the end, "He was all of us." No revolution occurs because of one person. V was the personification of all the people who made it happen.

V is shown at throughout the movie as being someone who has super human ability - intelligence, strength, reflexes, etc., That's why he could fight through getting shot at. Especially with the help of a bullet proof vest. Besides, it doesn't need to be logical as to how he was able to do what he did. That's sort of the point lol

I realize this video is a month ago, but one thing regarding the scene near the end. He was completely burned, all the nerve endings in his skin are no more, so he didn't feel the impact of the bullets, but as you can see in the scene that follows, it clearly did impact him. Just in the moment it's not a problem to get shot.

The gunpowder plot was over 400 years ago, but we still celebrate its failure on the 5th November by lighting bonfires, setting off fireworks and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes.

All sentient creatures crave freedom. Once a sentient creature sees what freedom looks like, it will fight for freedom. If it doesn't, it will lose any freedom it has. We choose through our actions which future we experience, if we take no action, we will experience no future. This is the idea that V was communicating.

This movie saddens me. As much as I love it, it saddens me. Cos where it should be lighting a fire in the bellies of all the people and waking them up to what is going on (and has been for decades), it is merely being viewed, written off, and forgotten as just one more piece of cinematic entertainment, and the message is being completely lost, or worse, ignored.
