      "Voila! In view humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the “vox populi” now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin, van guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.
      The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.
      Verily this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it’s my very good honour to meet you and you may call me V."

    I love the meaning in the moment V breaks his mask and weeps. All he wanted was evey, but he wanted her to have what she wanted, and what she wanted was to not be afraid. So he took her, and bullied her, and tortured her, until she wasn't afraid. He did it knowing it would driver her away, that she'd hate him, but he did it anyway, because it was what she wanted. He wanted to show her that, unlike the count of Monte Cristo, he cared more about evey than about what he wanted.

    Such a brilliant movie, I absolutely adore it. I say that as a fan of the original Alan Moore graphic novel/comics but I prefer to just treat them as entirely different entities. It takes that original material and crafts it into a very powerful allegory for modern times. I'm scared, but we know what to do, should the time come.

      @@RyanCarrington I don't know how much you're into graphic novels/comic books but Alan Moore is a legendary writer. 'V For Vendetta' is one of his earliest works, originally serialized in the British anthology magazine "Warrior" starting in 1982. I remember reading it in the mid-80's. And then when the movie came out in 2005 I was very curious how they would handle it since it was only a few years after 911 and the protagonist is a terrorist. It's definitely interesting how a comic from the 80's became MORE relevant in the 2000's.

    Hey Ryan. An irony in this film is actor John Hurt playing Chancellor Sutler in his dystopian world. Because Hurt played the opposite role as victim in a much worse dystopian world in the movie "1984" (1984). @ 31:45 I'm with ya. LOL! Been watching VfV yearly since '06 and never tire of it as it's such a WELL MADE movie, on top of everything else about it. Great reaction, man! If you decide to do "1984" and you like Eurythmics then do the version with their soundtrack. This movie is so underrated. The scary thing about it is that it becomes more current and more relevant as the years have gone by.
    Look at the state of democracy today in places such as Poland, Hungary, Brazil, the US. Look at the state of the EU and the UK. Russia, Belarus, and China, Hong Kong. There are powerful and wealthy forces in the world working to destroy truth, science, logic, and our common humanity. This was not the promise of the future. We were supposed to become better, smarter, more egalitarian, and more humane. It looks like books like 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 were closer predictors after all.

      I really dont think V would join Trumps Capitol riot gang nor would he try to overthrow governments (outside of your China's and Russia's). The emphasis to empower the people is a strong message, one that could overshadow the fact that 'the people' themselves could be the ones stopping social progress and contribute to cultural oppression. Right now you don't have a Patreon, and your community is fairly small, so maybe there's an opportunity here to see some movies that other channels haven't done. Nothing against Patreon or big communities, but when the majority rules on votes, the movie choices become homogenized pretty quickly.
    Here's a handful of recommendations that I would love to see on a reactor's channel:
    • Blood Simple
    • Bound
    • The Insider
    • Out of Sight
    • Zero Effect
    Except for Zero Effect, which is definitely a cult movie, all of these are by major filmmakers (and even the director of Zero Effect went on to make Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle). One of these is a multiple Oscar nominee. But I just don't think they're popular enough to win if polling is the system by which you choose.
    I would also recommend, on the truly obscure end of things, the fascinating drama Proof (1991), which also stars Hugo Weaving, playing a blind man who takes photos as a hobby, and enlists Russell Crowe (in one of his first roles) to describe the photos to him.

      @RyanCarrington 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was okayishhhh.
      There were a few occasions where it went weird. I noted one in this video. But there's another bit I refrained from pointing out where she goes a bit northern for a second and sounds like the character Mrs Merton from an old UK show. Other than that though, it was alright 🙂

    • @okeefe757
      @okeefe757 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RyanCarrington Yeah, that is pretty much how it goes for Americans doing British accents from what I understand. You guys seem to do our various accents generally pretty well especially our southern accent. I am from the south(south eastern Virginia), but I have a typically light southern American accent.

      @@okeefe757 I think we have an advantage because so much of what we watch is from America, so we hear the various American accents so much.
      personally, I love the Boston accent (although I visited a couple of years ago and was disappointed that not many people really spoke with it)
      Oh and the Minnesota one. That always gets me 😅

    With the shit going on in 2021. Petrol prices flying past £1.50 per litre (remember when the country kicked off when it first hit £1 per litre?). Domestic Gas and Electricity prices soaring. Universal Credit Covid payments of £20 per week cut AGAINST all organisations/many segments of the Govt themselves saying Rishi shouldn't - but instead a drop in the limit of 63p down to 55p for WORKERS on U.C (they're £23 a week better off). But strangely NOTHING to help those that either can't work, or on disability U.C (£19 a week worse off).. But fair play to Rishi Sunak 3p off a pint.. Nice.. Annnnd Fuel dudty will be frozen again for another year... (Petrol STILL screaming towards the £1.75 per litre mark)... SO TWO taxes on petrol, Supermarkets, petrol companies, it's REALLY getting to be a racketeering job this with all the profit they're raking in hand over fist...
    And yet, still no organisation of why? No petitions for the Govt? No Facebooks/Twitter/Instagram etc groups gaining mass popularity??
    NHS failing, School kids being failed, Care homes/Elderly care failing, crime up, violence up, malicious evil spreading across our nation...
    And then "V".... In this movie... Is making more and more sense...... 😒😒😒🇬🇧

    • @RyanCarrington
      @RyanCarrington 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In the UK this is pretty bang on. Conservative gov has been in power for 11 years and in that time poverty has shot through the roof. Charity Food banks are the norm, the NHS is being dismantled and handed to private companies which charge back at astronomical rates, tax payer money often ends up in the hands of billionaires with kickbacks to politicians who are affiliated.
      Corruption is rife here and it's often not even hidden. It's all a farce. We are basically Russia.

Or perhaps the joke they are trying to make is more important that the film. I think I might be on to something there.
