    I jumped on the 4 stroke bandwagon in the 2000’s and then recently bought a 250 2 stroke. I now realize I should have bought a 250 2 stroke many years ago.

      I blow up everything, Xr600r, blew up in 5k miles, tm 125, blew up in 12 hours, kx250f blew up in 30hours, kx250 2t, blew up in 6 hours, yz250 blew up 17hours after rebuild. When you are hard on your bikes, two strokes all the way because they are so much cheaper to fix. The only bike that survived my riding without blowing was a kdx 220

      Finished my 1994 KX250 last year also. Was my desert race bike back in 94-96, then a fun bike until 2001. Then I took it completely apart, powder coated the frame, then had to put it into boxes for a move. Was in boxes until last year. In 94 I had removed all the oem plastics, so when I put it back together it was just like new again with all the purple graphics. Looks as good as Larocco's 94 bike you see in the supercross pits.

    • @motofunk1
      @motofunk1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ronn68 The rebuild I did above was pretty easy to find parts. There are still many OEM parts as many of the parts span 10 years on different vehicles. For example I got an OEM gas cap for the stock tank as the original cracked. The part number was used for jetski's up into the 2010's. If you are going to do one of these projects I would source out the parts ahead of time before committing.

    Only reason I have owned 2 KTM two strokes in the last 5 years is because of that magic button. I had one of these Yz's (a 2013) a while back and quite honestly, the power character is very much "old school" in that it jumps on and off the pipe pretty abruptly. Not necessarily a bad thing, but when you're doing 2+ hours in a Hare Scramble, could get tiring. Not to mention, possibly stalling it or dumping it and having to kick it over after you have already been riding for an hour and a half spikes the heart rate up to say the least. Other than that, the powerplant is super solid.

    • @ddrowdy2

      @@ddrowdy2 I’m sure you’ll do your research, but there’s a channel on here called 3 Seas Recreation who happens to be a Beta Dealer. They post videos of customer bikes at time with some issues. Also, prior to 23’ they have clearance issues with the radiators basically hitting the fork tubes when you turn the bars. Love how they still keep it simple with the Carburetor though. Then, there’s that new Fantic 300 which is essentially and hyper-modified YZ250 (shares the same frame and everything). This thing has throttle body injection, electric start and an electronic power valve and of course the SSS KYB fork. Super impressive but I don’t think it’s out to market yet.

    I went for a Husky 250 2 stroke. Best decision ever. Still carbureted. 450f is too much, its nice because you can ride the whole track on 3rd gear but if you really want to push, the bike will push too damn much. Cant do 5 laps on a 450f... 250f is awesome! Plenty of fun, but... valvues go way too soon, and im not rebuilding another 4stroke in my like. 250 2 smoke is cheap and has just the right amount of power! Im extremely happy with it and im keeping it forever hahahahaha the no engine braking was something to get used to but i now see it as a good thing! front tire is not dipping when ever I stop accelerating which is more predictable if you ask me.

If the SX was stawk, I prolly would rather pay half the price for the YZ. The SX tho, no vibration and felt like a magnet was holding it to the ground. Excellent bite in flat turns with the one spring fork leg. I don't get any arm soreness, like the hit I get from my 200SX with the new STIC Super X carb! The YZ250 really needs nothing, but there is a new simple PV product called Hitliss that I'd install along with the big power adder, the Super X.

    If your a smaller to medium size rider under say 175lbs, and don't feel as comfortable on 450's yet, a 250cc 2 stroke is a great alternative to the slightly heavier and more expensive 4 stroke 250's. Like they said, be prepared to shift more and let the bike roll a little more into corners. With less engine braking they stay planted on the rear tire, which makes it that much quicker you need to be prepared to get back on the gas in a lower gear. I'm sure even vet riders coming off bigger 4 strokes find themselves scrambling to stay ahead of that cycle of movements when they first ride one. Gotta ride them Ronnie Mac style!

      They made brakes for a reason to do braking, 2 strokes are the only dirt bike I will own, have ridden modern 4 strokes give me 15yr old 2 stroke any day. Lighter faster easier to work on not one thing about 4 stroke is better than 2 stroke not one thing. Emissions killed 2 strokes as you need twice the size to run as fast. a good 125 2 stroke from 90s still can ytake a 250 4 stroke on a track in the proper hands. On road racing 500s from 90s faster laps than modern 4 stroke 1000. Problem is most guys today hate 2 stroke cause they have no idea how to ride bike with a power band in a small range. @@mackeymichael

      @@RT22-pb2pp blah blah blah, I've riden and owned and worked on(rebuilt) every size and stroke of single cylinder dirt bike or enduro. Your painting with some bold colors and awfully broad strokes there, don't you think? You say a 125cc 15 year old 2stroke will blow any brand new 250cc 4stroke away with the right rider? AND any 15yr old 250cc 2stroke is far superior to a brand new state of the art 450cc 4stroke huh? Let me guess, you have a shed full of beat down 25 year old dirt bikes with half the parts broken or missing, that just happen to all be 2 stokes? I know, life's hard sometimes. Well, you keep kicking those tired temperamental plug fouling hoopties. I'm gonna push the electric start button, listen to my brand spanking knew, finely tuned, fuel injected and heavily modified YZ450F pur like a kitten! I'll see you later buddy! @@stevesmith756Austrian counterbalanced modern 2Ts don't have the old school "hit" feel. They're also fuel injected, with the button. The new 300 TBI in particular has gobs of instant low torque. These 2Ts are better for more people than almost any 4T when taking into consideration initial price, maintenance, all of it. Easier to work on too, even with the added complexities of EFI and E start.

My chi-com weed trimmer runs balls out three hours every week for multiple months every year for YEARS and never fails ? Are these bikes that delicate ? I mean, cannot these manufacturers build a bike engine that revs like a weed trimmer and actually lasts ?
