What a faff! I fitted a Cymarc one to my gsa took about 1/2 hr well pleased with it too. No idea how much the R&G one is but with the branding stuck in front of you it should be £50 cheaper imo. As far as getting the TFT stolen I don’t know of anyone whose had one stolen , but just like stolen bikes I don’t know any one whose had one stolen , but 100s go missing every day , just my thoughts
It's just like the saying goes " if you have a hammer, everything around looks like a nail!" With a set of wrenches & power screw driver, nearly every thing of the front of the R1250GS got to be removed as in this video. However, with just a pair curved tip surgical clamps & removing just the wing-shaped cowling , I managed to remove the TFT, & the subsequently reinstall it, , under 10 minutes (in total!). Dinking around with the R&G TFT guard took much longer!!! BTW, I bought the R&G TFT guard from Steve recently!
My son had his TFT stolen from his R1250gs in Central London a couple of month ago - he bought a new TFT from ebay, had it coded at his BMW dealer and fitted a Touratech protector.
I've used R & G for years in the states. If Steve carries it, it's quality. There is no end to this young man's talents.
Nice, shams its got the R and G logo on it, otherwise it looks factory fitted.
A nice video as usual, but I struggle to see the benefit of this case and certainly there’s no need for billet aluminium for a static case. It doesn’t seem to provide any security against a TFT being ripped off, which I believe is the common mode of theft, and I certainly don’t want to be looking at an R&G ( or any other 3rd party logo) right on top of my screen. I have a Cymarc (no logo) security cover for peace of mind whilst touring as you never know where you may need to park-up, that one makes ripping off the screen difficult, not impossible, but it’s a good deterrent at a fair cost.
Looks like a really nicely designed and manufactured item, but it's not going to stop TFTs getting ripped off bikes, unlike the Cymarc anti-theft protector for the GS (which is very easy to install) and to protect the actual screen from scratches I would use a guard from Speedo Angels - a lot cheaper ;)
I did the Off Road Skills Maintenance course in Wales and our instructor told us that 2 bikes had it done previously but they were customers in London, apparently, you can still ride the bike if it's nicked 😳🤷♀
I used those GSA disassemble/assemble videos so many times. Once I stripped it with the iPad next to me for your video for reference while I was putting a ton of goodies from you!
Sorry we interrupted you Steve, you could hear my dull set tone in the background. Loving the product you sold us and loving the videos. Keep them up. From two of Derbyshire’s finest. Thanks mate. 👍🏻
Haha! Hope you could hear the sarcasm. Welcomed interruption
Love the vids bud, and i have to say, having your tank like mine, all gloss black, no decals, looks the mutts nutz too ! Love that r&g screen protector too.... i'm heading to the order page right now ! 😊😊
had an attempted theft of my tft screen last year. having the anty theft device helped. the managed to crack the screen and bend the fixtures but didn't manage to get the screen....1250 rs
I understand that you try to seal, but whho need this? If you are afraid for everything on your bike maybe you should leave your bike at home?
Ive had 2 friends who had theirs stolen and know a friends friend who had his stolen. 2 in London and 1 in Johannesburg
Well, I have to agree that I have never heard of a screen being stolen, but I lead a sheltered life, I suppose. A thief would have to be quite determined to pick on the GS . But the S 1000, looks a bit easier to snatch. I think the three screws that hold the flyscreen on could be replaced with those anti theft fasteners. It certainly won’t stop them, but might slow them down a bit.
I’ve removed the TFT and refitted it without having to strip half the front end down when I fitted the screen protector🤷🏼
Just removed the screen and top panel - then used a couple of different snap-on long nose pliers job done
Shouldn't worry about the logo Ali express etc will be along shortly with one , cheep as chips without the off putting logo, like already been said "what's the point " if it doesn't provide any security for the TFT !
Baseball bat is also a good deterrent for the tea leaves 😡👍
Hi Steve looked really smart when I seen it today. 👍🏍️🏍️
Good evening Steve
Very nice video, like everything he has done...slowly the motorcycle I am interested in is being completed.....
GSA owner here. Never ever heard of a TFT being stolen.
I had a TFT stolen, parked in London. The standard fit is simply too easy for an opportunist to take advantage of.
Steve, pls don’t reveal the secret on how to remove the TFTs to the audience 😢
Awesome video! Looks great as well. This won't fog up, will it? Best!
Oh golly. I hope not
Am I missing something or did you forget to show the filter behind the mirror lens on the ammo guard?
Ur absolutely right…..I did. Sorry.
Hi, do you need to clear any faults after removing electrical parts like we do on car though the OBD ports.
Thanks
No, we haven’t had to do this
Great double act 😂
Product looks great 👍
I know of at least 10+ being stolen. They just rip them off and brake the connector block in the process. £1200 to replace the TFT
Ok, I stand corrected but I still havent met someone personally who has told me this.
@@ABIKETHINGme neither.
You know personally or have read online?
I know personally
@insertyoutubeusername true, but there is so much exaggerated stuff around on the Internet I want to know what the real risk is. There is "forum creep"....Even cars have vulnerabilities such as catalytic converters and steering wheels apparently. Personally I don't want an ugly bit of pressed steel around my tft screen if I can possibly help it!
So when you decide to upgrade your GS you have to do all that again.....nah
what is the bonus of this guard? I’ve never seen anyone with a bike that’s had the dash stolen.
R&G designed this as crash protection on the likes of S1000RR's for track use. It was never intended for the GS although I think it looks great.
how about doing a video on changing the fork oil on a R1250GSA
wrong channel my friend
Where did you get the silver GPS backplate that holds the Peak phone mount? I haven't found it on the website.
That’s something I fabricated myself for my own use. We don’t sell it because it’s not compatible unless you have the short GS rally screen.
mine was stolen in London two days ago GSA 1250
Steve, is the extra bent metal mount behind the Nav6 which takes the Peak Design universal mount available please? It's just what I'm looking for!
this was a make shift solution for my last road trip. Only works with the shorty screen but it's a bent piece of steel with a ram ball screwed through the sat nav cradle.
I'm after that too!
Nice raccoon look
raccoon?
I had my screen stolen off my cx400 scooter, same screen as GS, a real fucking pain as the keyless ride is integrated into screen so things like indicators stop working amongst other things. £1790 to replace
Looks cool I'll admit, but not quite seeing how this will keep it from being stolen, full well understanding that may not be particularly likely... But again, maybe it's not about that really... looks do count... Oh, and what about this "wait til the end" to see some new headlight filter" blah blah blah???
I've never had a house fire or know anyone who's house has caught fire.
Nonetheless, I have building insurance.
I doubt a fireman would come out with this statement. My point is we work on BMW's every day and meet their owners. You would have thought I'd have met someone by now who has had their TFT stolen. Met loads who have had their luggage stolen and even their motorcycles stolen but not a TFT stolen. I think It's an interesting point but I accept people have had them stolen but I just havent heard about it other than on forums where someone has a hearsay comment about it.
I mean, they’re just ripping them off in London… so no need to remove a ton. Happened to a chap in our R1250R group outside his work, and nobody makes theft protectors for that model!
Ok I stand corrected.
I cant see the point of this R&G surround! What us GSA Riders want is a surround with a purpose.so it needs to look good and give shade to the TFT screen and hopefully make it harder for those theiving f*ckers..
It just looks great. As soon as I saw it I wanted it. It's now on my M1000R, R1250GSA and R1300GS. I do however empathise with your needs
Cymarc do a proper protective bracket for 1/3 the price.
This is bling for the sake of it.
Seems like a lot of work for bragging rights...
Steve, I really like you and enjoy your videos and the marketplace you've built. But, did you really throw shade on R&G branding?! Mate, you shouldn't have any opinion on branding since "A Bike Thing" branding looks like a toddler's creation on an etch-a-sketch. Logo per se, yours is the worst among established brands. Anyway to each his own.
Did you really just throw shade on Abikething? My comment about R&G was positive, you heard an honest opinion from an individual who has been a biker for years and today I felt it was deserved for it to come out. I havent been just throwing shade on the brand all these years with the intent to speak badly about them as you have just done. R&G are significantly larger than Abikething and you can now see their new branding coming through. i like the company and the people. That's my honest opinion. When Abikething is larger, I'll be sure to address the etch-a sketch design and it'll all be part of the journey. If you knew who designed the Abikething logo, I think you'd have a different opinion. It's actually a very strong brand but I have no doubt it will still evolve over the years. Anyway, we are all entitled to opinions and shouldn't try and influence control saying that one shouldn't have an opinion regardless of whatever reason.
@@ABIKETHING It was no shade man, I was just holding a mirror in front of you. If yours was a honest opinion about R&G then why can't mine be a honest opinion about your brand. Probably you might evolve your branding when time comes, but that is something in the future and since I can't see the future I can only go with what is present in front of me. I also agree with your point that "A Bike Thing" is a strong and upcoming brand, but the branding(logo) is weak. Again, my opinion won't change if I come to know who designed the current logo since it is you who is personally attached to the origin story and me as a consumer, I'm not. I would've agreed with your comment if your design was exceptional and then I can understand that you are an expert in this. I was just telling you that yours is not. Like you mean no disrespect to R&G, the same is with me, no disrespect. I don't mean any disrespect nor am I trying influence/control anything, it is just a honest opinion and we should leave it at that. I just feel strongly about this because of my domain expertise.Good luck mate.
@@ABIKETHINGagree with you Steve , r&g to me has always looked a little low budget . I always buy evotech ! Top quality goods and excellent branding . I'm not saying there is anything wrong with r&g but the branding could do with a refresh .
Most companies from time to time change their branding/logo . Just my opinion.
