I own four fryers. Two propane two electric. I have one just like this one. Also use a masterbuilt electric smoker. What I've learned in almost 40 years of frying and smoking turkeys is the meat don't care where the heat comes from.
I bought this exact fryer and I will be using it for my first fried turkey for Thanksgiving. I filled it with water yesterday and submerged the bird while still in plastic. That way I know exactly how much oil to use to cook evenly. I'm excited! 🤗
Instead of using cooking spray, Just heat the peanut oil up in the fryer and when its at temp just lower the empty basket in the oil for 10-20 seconds then take the basket out and then sit your turkey in. Now your turkey won't stick.
Been frying turkey for 35 years. A few years ago I was unable to use my regular propane fryer. I bought this exact fryer. Not too bad. It is a good alternative. My only knock is how short the cord is.
Great video. I just bought a fryer like that. You detailed every question I had, and even some tips on things that I haven't thought of. I can only hope that I can get my bird to be as amazing as that one looked.
Thank you for the recipe. I used it last Thanksgiving. I marinated over night, cut it up then smoked it. The best turkey I have ever tasted. Came back for a refresher.
Wow.. Thx for the great vid and info.. I just got an electric fryer today and cooking me first Turkey tomorrow... Thank you for lettin me know how to do it...
Great Job all the way around- Thank you for concise, very detailed & step by step instruction. Especially the caution areas- HAPPY THANKSGIVING, GOD BLESS AND ENJOY YOUR "GBD TURKEY"!
I dry brine my turkey before frying it and it turns out great. Also instead of spraying the basket I dip it into the oil and then place the turkey in the basket and lower it. Nice job on the turkey though.
From JH Coffee Lab to the kitchen of Chef Jerry, I am about to show you how to really deep fry a turkey. Over time new ideas come about or found that were already out there how to prepare or cook food. About 1992 I was introduced to deep fried turkey. A friend that I worked with was telling me about his dad deep frying a turkey. I had never heard of it so I became interested. He said to me, why don’t we do one for Christmas. In my shop at Richland maintenance I had a kitchen setup we used for occasional cooks when the weather was bad or we were working around the shop and I had time to cook for the crew. So he brought the pot and out of the can selling money we bought the turkey and fix-ins. He injected it Italian salad dressing and put it in the oil. That turkey caused me to purchase a large pot for the house and that is when I started deep frying turkey’s. My first pot was way to big and it took way too much oil. Later I bought the right pot for the job and for many years I deep fried turkey’s for my family and friends. Today I don’t really care for it but rather have my turkey in a cooking bag and baked in the oven. Now over time I learned how to really deep fry a turkey that very little people do. First, get rid of the big pot you call your turkey pot. It is not the right way to get the perfect turkey and it can also be very dangerous in the hands of the first time chef trying to impress their friends. You will need a large cast iron dutch oven. One that you can put two thighs and two legs in at the same time The turkey should never be over 14 pounds. If that is not large enough for you, purchase two turkeys. Now just like a chicken cut the turkey into ten pieces. Two thighs, two legs, two wings, and four breast.Cut the turkey between the breast then cut the breast cross ways to have four pieces. Canola or veggies oil is best. Do not purchase peanut oil. That is for restaurants. They use it because of the flash point and being able to use it for several days. A misconception in the turkey frying world. It is also heavy to the taste. Get the oil to 370 degrees as it will drop when you add the turkey. First in goes the thighs one at a time to keep the oil if you can to stay around 350 degrees. Add both thighs and both legs. You can also add the back pieces if you have space. It should take about 20 to fry the thighs. Make sure you have a thermo pin to check the temp inside the meat and when it get to 165 to 170, take out and rest it on some paper towel in a deep pan. In goes the breast and wings. Keep an eye on the color and temp of the breast and wings. The reason this method of frying a turkey is superior to the pot cook, it the ability to control the heat of each piece. So many people using the pot burn up the wings and breast trying to get the thighs done. I have seen so many turkeys pulled from the pot and the cooks just oooooing and ahhhhhhhing over the turkey that is burned to a crisp with two inches of bone showing on the legs and the wings totally destroyed. As for prepping the turkey, if you like rubs, have at it. If you like to inject, have at it. If you want a really crispy skin, salt down the turkey a day before and put it in the refrigerator uncovered. The salt and air will dry out the skin and it will for sure be more crispy. If you cook your turkey until it is dark as Barack Obama, you totally screwed up the meat. Another great recipe by Chef Jerry
Good video, bro! Been using this method for years to fry turkeys, and recently switched to using the Char Broil Big Easy to air-fry the turkey. It comes out very good as well, although the skin is not as crispy as the deep fried method.
Make sure to take it out of the box and test it asap. Bought one from Walmart this year. Broken out of the box. Would not turn on. Likely the completely unneeded safety switch is defective. Spent quite a bit of time and effort trying to troubleshoot it. Everything in the area closed for Thanksgiving so no exchange possible and had to put it in the oven. Thanks Masterbuilt.
Using my fryer for the first time this week. Have always used a pot. Did you fry it at 375? That is what my guide recommends but I have always cooked mine around 350.
I did 375 but i can tell you the electric fryer does not get as hot as th pot so the 375 electric might be really close to 350. I think this week i'm going to try 350 to see if I can tell a difference.
I’m really surprised that it took so long for an electric turkey fryer to come out. That whole thing going outside with the propane burner and the big pot was always scary as hell for me. First time I did it, I nearly set myself on fire.
@@shabatanyissachar7359I got mine mine from Walmart but if u Google butterball electric turkey fryer it will pop up w/ all the places that have it available
after you purchase one of these deep fryers, you will not go back. to the outdoor propane one and You will use it more often don't have to deal with temperature swings and if you Want to go outdoor with find the closest outlet They said do not use extension cord. but I had before. Just a long. You have a heavy duty extension cord Outlet with like a 30 amp breaker Outlet But use your best judgment
I bought min on Amazon a few years back but Walmart and Lowes have them and the price is better. this is the model Masterbuilt MB23012418 Butterball XL Electric Fryer, 10L - Extra Large, Gray
If you dip your basket in the hot oil first prior to putting the bird in. Will keep the bird from sticking. Also don’t know about you or what others think ? But the butterball xxl deep fryer doesn’t get the birds crispy enough. I may have to get a propane vertical fryer for the future. Thoughts ?
I agree the only thing I don't like is the skin not getting super crispy. I'm going to try and cook one this time without closing the lid. I believe the lid causes the un-crispy skin.

When deep frying a turkey, you can use any cooking oil that has a smoke point above 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Corn oil works well also because it doesn't smoke until 440 degrees Fahrenheit Peanut oil is just just the best because of the high heat it can take.
I have the same model and have experienced what you’re talking about. Firstly, any turkey over 14lbs will not remain fully submerged. If that happens, it’s likely not to ever crisp. The smaller the turkey the better the cook. Secondly, I cook my turkeys beyond 165 degrees like he did. The longer it stays in the grease the crispier it gets. I cook to an internal temp of 185.
Bruh, highly 'dry season' , 'CUT, pieces'. Drop in HOT Grease.... The Best EASY ever !!! .....couple days seasoned before frying, makes it even better ....The End
