A piece of music so immutable, so timeless, so sublime... here we are 300 years later and this piece still is as relevant and soul wrenching today as it was when it was written! What a master was Bach!
This piece never gets old. So soothing and relaxing. As a retired violinist we played it many times, and the feeling of making such extraordinary music always was overwhelming.
Bach is the greatest ever, a unique combination of mathematics and beauty. with most composers, it's mostly the one or the other. a true musical genius.
It's kind of lame to me how this song is considered almost kitsch by some of the more snobby classical music aficionados. I get the sentiment...but good lord, this piece of music is damn near holy. It's one of those incredibly rare compositions that comes along every so often, from the most creative and intelligent minds of their day, to illuminate an _aesthetic mental environment_ that was never before contemplated. I'd love to travel back in time and watch the very first audience that heard this being performed. I imagine there were many shivers-up-the-spine moments and a few tears. There's just _something_ about this song that hits some primordial region of my subconscious; it feels like my perceptual lens is clearer and less occluded by the inane banality of status-quo existence. If aliens ever discover Earth and us humans, personally I'd want them to hear _this song_ before they experience anything else. I think even an alien species, even if they had no context for what they were hearing, would still sense something ineffably poignant about this song. In this song, I hear one of the fullest and most complete expressions of humanity itself that I've ever heard. The mildly chromatic descending bass-lines, the yearning romantic melodic lines and the implied harmony they sketch out, the drone note suspended in air...falling like a leaf in autumn before blending into the harmony below. It's such a creative and inspired composition....indeed it leads me to write fawning pedantic overly-wordy missives about how this song is the perfect aural embodiment of human existence itself. So...yeah. Think I'll go make some coffee now and stop typing. :P
+avedic It's just one of the risks of fame. Familiarity breeds contempt. My you, there is a very strong, inherent snobbery in classical music to contend with, particularly opera. The assumption is something exquisite could not possibly be perceived by the untrained mind. Pearls before swine. But, as you say, a true work of genius is cognizable by all. At least Pachelbel's Canon attracts more flak for being kitschy!
J.S.BACH....ROMPIENDO LAS BARRERAS DEL TIEMPO..... SU ETERNA MÚSICA.....BELLA... SENSIBLE...DELICADA... LA MELODÍA DEL UNIVERSO ... EN PAZ.... J.S.BACH:SU LEGADO ETERNO 🕊
Orders the beauty and the pain in a balance that allows you to unify the fragments of your existence that finally prove incomprehensible, to feel comprehensible be it just for these moments. To resolve first loves meetings with their final departure and all the rest. Bach I love it.
Thats exactly it. Bach reached an incredible mental state to achieve what he did, and he sustained it over many years. The father of modern music and the greatest composer of all time.
Many thanks to them, for their excellent performance, and for sharing their creativity as public domain, for which I bow low and thank them. Great people of their time, playing great music as great masters!
Speechless.....within 20 seconds I'm already on the verge of a happy waterfall of tears!! Well, that happens for just about 99% of classical music I listen to but this is simply gorgeous
This orchestral transcription of Bach's masterpiece is the epitome of the sublime. Whenever I see the debasement of humanity through so many perverse actions I come back to this for a reset. We are endowed with the ability to get beyond the formulaic entertainment that distracts us from TRUTH. Surely we, guided by this music, can consider it an arrow pointing us in the right direction. There is reason to hope.
I know it has been some time but I wonder where that quote came from. Thank you for your brilliant and civil comment. This cyber wilderness could use more of your sort. Thanks again.
michaelmisanthrope That is...if I’m correct from a certain translation of “Erlkonig” by Goethe, a poem about a sinister wood spirit that lured children to their deaths. haha
موسيقى تنقلنا إلى عالم الخلود و اللانهائي من المعاني و الأماكن و الأكوان 'music that takes us far away from the routine life to eternity and infinity in space and time' 'seule une telle musique est capable de nous transposer vers d'autres horizons; vers l'infini spaciotemporel
After all these years hearing this song, I can play most songs in my mind, but this one, I need to hear a snippet before I remember how it proceeds. I think it's all the simultaneous and recurring tune loops. I'll try and keep at it, maybe one day I might do it without a jumpstart
Well there are. By Bach especially. But the interpretation here is great. Confiteor and Et Expecto from his B minor Mass. But as usual I'm talking about more symphonic interpretations similar with the one in this video. th-cam.com/video/5o-v8eLcqZQ/w-d-xo.html like this one.
At the first stroke I get shivers down my spine and they only leave through my toes when the last note is played. If you like music but you can't apreciate this, then sorry, but you have no taste. You can't argue with taste, but you must argue with no taste at all.
"Air On The G String" is refered to the violin arrangment played on the single G String, and I don't understand, what has that notation with the orchestral version?
Claudia Yes, Erbarme dich from Bach's Matthew passion can compete. Besides Erbarme dich is more than just a musical piece, it's a prayer to Him that some here think is just a fantasy
+Jacob Anderson The conductor organizes the performance of a given piece of music. It might help thinking about the director of a company. Given the same employees, a company might succeed or not depending on its head. The conductor establishes the tempo (speed at which the music is played), dynamics (i. e. volume, where it should be loud, where it should not), whether something should be played legato or not, etc. etc. The musicians know how to play their parts (on good orchestras as this one at least), but since each musician has a different idea about how a piece of music should sound, it would take an awful amount of time for all of them to agree, if ever, on how to play a specific piece.

To me he was the proverbial 'it'.

Danke!
It is literally a timeless classic ❤
This piece never gets old.
So soothing and relaxing.

I love classical music and in my opinion, this is the masterpiece of all masterpieces. So calming.

I revisited now, and I knew how it sounded before playing the song this time. But I was so unsure if it was the right melody. Hooraay.
Just PERFECT!
PERFECTION
Flute and bass cuties
Bravo!
Wonderful! Love Night of the Proms for decades. This is a highlight!
Is there a more beautiful piece than this? (a rethorical question!)

+Hugo Santos yes. Isn't the answer obvious?
Ballade no 1 in g by chopin
maybe Elgar's Enigma Variations ?

This sounds exactly like air in the summer.
2024 anyone ?🤲
Good reording, Someone coughing at 1:42 spoiled the mood.
Yes. The tuberculosis crowd always attends these Concerts.
It’s inevitable.
To think his music got lost for almost a 100 years and rediscovered somewhere in the 19 century.

The conductor is playing air in the air. No strings attached
I love slower tempo here more than other places I've heard it. Is this extra slow or how Bach originally arranged it to be played?
Watching the conductor do his thing is so interesting
3:00 could of been a little higher and longer.
Eternial Bach :-)
I think God has created Air with this Music in His mind!
Well, Bach was Christian….
"Air On The G String" is refered to the violin arrangment played on the single G String, and I don't understand, what has that notation with the orchestral version?
Gyönyörű
Can any body tell the Maestro name.

Yes, Erbarme dich from Bach's Matthew passion can compete. Besides Erbarme dich is more than just a musical piece, it's a prayer to Him that some here think is just a fantasy
He is really real and Jesus (Yeshua) is Hes only begotten Son, Amen.
❤❤❤2024
Evil within brought me here haha
But now you can listen to a very good and wunderful thing. Bach's Air is the very essence of what music will be. May God bless you.

What's the purpose of the conductor? If you say conduct, explain.
+Jacob Anderson The conductor organizes the performance of a given piece of music. It might help thinking about the director of a company. Martin Ferrari little late, but thanks...
+Jacob Anderson He's the one who decides how to play the piece, it's his vision. Different conductor, different versions of the same piece :)
bathesda brought me here
music sorgawi
It's played in C that's why it feels different... should be D
In G.
