This is August 31, 2024 and I am watching the end of this program with tears in my eyes as I marvel how spectacular this show was. My husband and I lived in London from 2004 to 2015 and I have always regretted not attending at least one Prom before we headed home to the US. We went to a broadway play on the West End at least once a year and watched the Proms on TV, but watching this makes me so nostalgic for London and the wonderful plays we were lucky to attend. All the actors, singers, and dancers were fantastic and Maestro Wilson a genius and a darling. Thank you to whomever made this possible.
It’s September 2024 and I’m grateful as always to Mr Wilson. He understands the significance of remembering this great music. Thank you so much for this video. The world needs more of this indeed.
Truly, there isn't an orchestra anywhere on this planet that does this stuff like the John Wilson Orchestra. Absolute authenticity, that old Hollywood colour, unabashaedly big and joyous.
I hum and sing along with the music wonderully played by a great orchestra and sung by a fantastic choir. Easy to listen to. It's someting I've never stopped lovng in my 91 years.
This music makes me alive it makes me feel so wonderful inside I I listen to these people that play and I know how much they sacrifice the play as well as they do and it just wonderful it's so wonderful and I wish that people would teach their children this kind of music because it could live forever and it will thank you George thank you Ira thank you John Wilson wonderful Orchestra people are just terrific and I enjoy it so much I want to share it with everyone God bless all of you
One of the best orchestras around, they bring back some really beautiful music

I offer my post-humous thanks to Papa and Mama Gershwin for producing two of the most talented 20th-century musical artists for the world's enjoyment and having made the USA proud.
Non pensavo che la cosiddetta "musica leggera" potesse raggiungere tali elevatissimi livelli di perfezione:Dire bravo è troppo poco, vorrei sentirli dal vivo ma ho 92 anni ,rimane un sogno!!
Magnificent performance. My father played the violin for the San Francisco Bay Area Philharmonic symphony, in California. I learned to appreciate great music.
I watched this for nth time but i can't get enough. Like i really enjoy the music 💚 I just recently discovered this orchestra once I saw one instagram reel of them performing scott bradley's music for tom and jerry medley and i just fell inlove with their performances.
At 93 I grew up with my head attached to a radio. Gershwin has always been my favorite. I may forget what I did yrsterday, but I remember iras clever lyrics. Thank you! The orchestrations are delicious
I've been listening all afternoon to John Wilson Orchestra tracks from the BBC Proms over the years. What treasures this man and this orchestra are. Thank you for uploading.
IF ONLY This were TOTALLY true, Mister Gershwin probably have written even MORE music on the "level" of Rhapsody!!...... Mister Wilson has SURELY shown the WORLD how Beautiful these Classics can be PLAYED to the TOP !!
@@Marcel_Audubon Marcel, don't be so ready to throw cold water on other people's heartfelt appreciation for John Wilson. You are obviously a young person who may not understand that older generations are effusive with their compliments.
Wow that was nice! Playing Rhapsody in blue without a piano solo saves time. How many people in this world can play that solo? Not too many. Now you take the hardest guitar solo (hell take your pick) and tons of guys can play the licks but this piano solo here in Rhapsody in Blue is out of your damn mind intense. Frank Chacksfields orchestras piano player plays this song perfect. Hearing Frank Chacksfields version makes you very critical of other attempts.
This conductor is extraordinary. I am a musician and I love his way of conducting an orchestra. It is efficient and perfectly mastered the scores of each instrument panel. Great!
PROBABLY BECAUSE HE SCORED EVERY INSTRUMENT, USING THE ORIGINAL ARRANGEMENTS. ALTHOUGH, AS WITH MGM 'S ARCHIVE, IT WAS DESTROYED DELIBERATELY. SO JOHN RE-WROTE EVERY SINGLE NOTE DOWN , BY LISTENING TO THE FILMS. IT TOOK HIM YEARS .
Philip Croft He’s a young gifted maestro and I appreciate his conducting of Gershwin’s music, but you don’t have to capitalize every word in anger! Gershwin’s music was written long ago and was preserved as well. Saying some outlandish in your post makes you a “naughty boy “! Now we’re even.
Beautiful performance. A sound very close to the great Hollywood Orchestra's of the past. The first violinist played his solos magnificently, and in the style of the great players of the past. He is the best concert maestro I have heard in this orchestra. Heifetzien.
It is amazing how well the camera person is able to focus in on all the soloists at the time they are playing. That must take some coordination and planning. Great job. I like seeing the various soloists as they are playing their parts.
John Wilson had a vision and he followed through. Now we are the beneficiaries. To Maestro Wilson: you may be a Brit but you have many American admirers.
This is what they call music. Notes written by very talented people, It's amazing some of the stuff out there today, culture stuff is called music. It don't take any talent to jump around a stage and swear.
This very same place 44 years ago, (July 4 1975) The 200 celebration, New York Phil, conducting and playing the piano Leonard Bernstain. What a memory.
! Wonderful! Listening to this music (for the first time I heard it more than 50 years ago) makes me transport to panoramas of peace and romanticism in the purest style. This music produces peace, produces in the spirit a desire to build in positive, to unite rather than disunite, service, honest work, love of a noble couple, commitment, freedom of spirit. John Wilson achieves a very special musical arrangement combining fast and smooth moments with that mastery of driving and those changes of rhythm so peculiar to his musical genius. I bless this wonderful orchestra!
Super-magnificent! Better is impossible. Conductor and orchestra of an unparalleled quality!!!
Es invalorable lo que agrega a unos seres humanos que no disfruten en la actualidad de esas melodías que llenan el corazón de sentimientos y nuestros recuerdos de otras épocas idas.

It is real Hollywood glamour. Well done, John! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

It's stunning how Wilson puts all pieces together to produce ❤️ beautiful music.
The elegance of immortal music that will never fade....
Happier than ever that I found this orchestra. You just don't get it any bettter. Played with love. Great solos, too.
John Wilson at his best! Such class and the classiest music is an unbeatable combination!
Wow, this orchestra sounds so lush! What phenomenal musicians!
10 minutes and 37 seconds of heaven... Thanks to all the people who made this possible.
Rhapsody in Blue is the greatest piece of music ever written The John Wilson Orchestra are sublime to see them live what a night
It is certainly the most original and the most easily recognized as wholly a product of American Jazz.
The two best orchestras on the planet, the MGM studio orchestra of the late 40s to late 50s and The John Wilson Orchestra.
This music makes me alive it makes me feel so wonderful inside I I listen to these people that play and I know how much they sacrifice the play as well as they do and it just wonderful it's so wonderful and I wish that people would teach their children this kind of music because it could live forever and it will thank you George thank you Ira thank you John Wilson wonderful Orchestra people are just terrific and I enjoy it so much I want to share it with everyone God bless all of you
Gershwin’s music is timeless! Too bad he died so young! But, he left us such beautiful music that is timeless as the stars.

FABULOUS GERSHWIN
WOW wonderful I am in love with this orchestra.
Superb arrangement. You can tell that the musicians immersed themselves in this rich fabric of genius music composition.
This conductor is one of the few that I have seen to wear 100% correctly fitting White Tie. That makes me respect him even more.
Perdoem-me a fraqueza, mas não consigo deixar de chorar, quando ouço essa maravilha, com a apoteótica Rhapsody in blue. Perdoem-me: sou fraco!...
Não, você não é fraco, esta é a música dos Deuses.

To do this requires someone reading the score and also paying attention at rehearsals. A great job done here, for certain.
