While her somber and heartwarming voice was always so warm and smooth and melted over our ears all along, her untimely passing made these songs even more precious and somewhat sad. I believe this is also one that I had originally requested in the list I sent you. It is also one of my favorites. I was about five years old when this was a hit and although she is singing about the songs 15 to 20 years earlier from the 1950s and 60s with the doo-wops and the “sha-la-la’s”, my generation and I think about about these songs and they are our “Yesterday Once More” songs. It’s so gratifying to see your generation get to know these songs but if you had this feeling just from one listen you can imagine if you had grown up with it and it evoked all those great memories from a time you guys will never know that was so much simpler and easier and just more innocent - and nicer to be honest. Remember this song as a theme of your channel and the whole reason why channels like yours exist and are so popular. Some of this music almost becomes sacred to us even more so the older we get and the more times change. ☺️

The genius of a Richard Carpenter composition and arrangement, along with the gorgeous voice of sister Karen has never been equalled in today's music....not even close!!!!
One of my favorite duos thus far! I'm sure there are a lot of great ones, but I can thank Richard and Karen for single-handedly putting more eyes on my channel (as well as ABBA). Love them!!

It’s no wonder these two groups have so many similarities-great songs, arrangements, vocals and harmonies! ♥️

Dan, you seem to like the harmony BGVs Carpenters employed. The reason for its smoothness and richness is that it's Richard and Karen multitracked. Particularly early in their career, Richard used a lot of that (which had, BTW, been inspired by the pioneering multitrack work by Les Paul and Mary Ford around 1950). In particular the 1970 Carpenters album Close To You is loaded with multitrack BGVs: Crescent Noon, Another Song, Mr Guder, and I'll Never Fall In Love Again, for instance, the latter including a 39-voice chord that is just Richard and Karen. I've listened to the Carpenters since I was 14 years old in 1971. I'm still listening to them today because no group has ever surpassed the beautiful velvety voice of Karen Carpenter. Actually, "A Song For You" was written by Leon Russell as a response of sorts to his own "Superstar" (originally titled "Groupie"). In "Superstar", a woman - who is a "groupie" - speaks about her feelings for the musician with whom she sleeps whenever he is in her city. She expresses her feelings for him - which are apparently one-sided. "A Song for You" is sung from the perspective of the musician, who confesses that he does indeed have feelings for her. Leon Russell wrote a third song that the Carpenters had a hit with: "This Masquerade". An argument COULD be made that this song is about these same two people later on in their relationship...
Hi Dan! Yes this is a top favorite and it was a hit single. It also has a special place as it was the first song on side two of the Now & Then album. Karen drummed ALL the songs on the album, except Jambalaya which was by Hal Blaine and his last Carpenters song for them. This song also served as the introduction to the Rock ‘n Roll Medley on side two. (Vinyl FTW) I’m linking a RESTORED video of their 1974 concert in The Netherlands. It feature Karen at her most beautiful and healthiest. She was on a health and strength regimen and it showed. Her mom said she looked fat and well… 😢 This features Karen live singing and drumming! You are gonna go nuts, I guarantee. Joe th-cam.com/video/Q3mzh4lv6BQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gPT8YvnOAXjpge_- .
So it was her mother that exacerbated the body dysphoria in Karen? That's terrible. Karen was such a beautiful woman, I can't see how she was "fat". Just awful 😟 And thanks for linking that JBS!
Another awesome reaction, Dan!! This is one of my favorites by them... everyone seems to forget this one. It's amazing when you hear an old song, it can transport you back in time to a certain, specific memory. This song reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1973. I was 11 years old, but I remember it on the radio.
Considering all the slop that's on the radio nowadays, I could imagine how lovely it would be for something like this to come on regularly! You guys were eating GOOD back then 🍖 And thanks for the nice comments as usual Ray!

Well, this one is not a love song like most of the songs the Carpenters did. Maybe you're just not a big "love songs" person. In that event, "Sing" is another one you'd probably like.
I think the main reason the others didn't hit me in the heart as much, is because I truly do yearn for the simplicity of my childhood, so Yesterday Once More really targets that nostalgic itch within me!
Why does every reactor feel the need to put a 10 second “preview” at the very beginnig of every view. Whats the point of that? I already clicked on the video and know it’s going to be a carpenters reaction , so why do I need to see a preview of what going to be in the video??
It is the trend. I see a lot of lately in the past several months. Different reactors look at other successful channels for inspiration. I’m on the fence about it because while it does give us a nice preview of how they felt, it also serves as somewhat of a spoiler because it reveals their feeling about this song before we get to start hearing it.
@@SWLinPHX It’s like, oh, I can see in this preview what your general reaction was to the song…I guess I don’t need to watch the actual full reaction now., since you went ahead and showed me the main part already
@@SWLinPHX id say it’s not even inspiration they’re getting from other channels. It’s just straight-up copying what other reactors/channels do. They even copy other reactor’s facial expressions and phrases on their thumbnails.
I'll give you an exact breakdown of my thought process, because it's really interesting! TH-cam is a really big place, and I've been on it since 2009. It's evolved in numerous ways. Once being a place that welcomed RAW unedited videos (which made every video feel authentic and give you a peak into the poster's life), it's now an ocean of content, with both high production AND expertly edited videos. Due to the sheer competition, you NEED to hook people in. Especially if someone is clicking on a video, you want to deliver on their expectations as quickly as possible, or they will likely click off and watch something more interesting. I was always taught in journalism class to start everything off with a hook. The preview you're referring to is exactly that. You may not see it that way, but I get 40-50 percent average view duration thanks to little tricks like this! Hope that gave you some insight on the thought process.
@@evanhughes1510 And as for the part about thumbnails, even the reactors you think are being "copied", are COPYING other channels. The " 😲😯😱" reaction faces have been around since the 2010s, it's a formula that has proven to drive clicks for decades. Why reinvent the wheel? I'm not going to sit here and say that I don't copy things that work, because that would be a lie. I emulate what works because it's likely to work for me. I don't think that's wrong because I bring my own personality to the table, and that's what keeps people watching.
With each Carpenters song I react to, I'm reminded more and more of how much of a tragedy Karen's passing was... She made fantastic music, and I wish she could have made more 😔May she rest in peace 🙏

(Vinyl FTW)
I’m linking a RESTORED video of their 1974 concert in The Netherlands. It feature Karen at her most beautiful and healthiest. She was on a health and strength regimen and it showed. Her mom said she looked fat and well… 😢
This features Karen live singing and drumming! You are gonna go nuts, I guarantee.

.
You guys were eating GOOD back then 🍖
And thanks for the nice comments as usual Ray!
@@DanCanReact Your reactions are one my favorites. I agree that music back then was great. I miss it. Occasionally, I like some of the music released today, too. But it seems to get fewer and farther between. They lyrics seem to suffer today though.
You're also hearing the warmth of analog, NOT digital, music and supremely talented musicians!
That's true, digital and analog are certainly different, I never realized that.
@@DanCanReact As one who recorded a contemporary Christian album on those old, wide reel-to-reel magnetic tapes, I can tell you there's a warmth that is not present in the digital recordings.
Karen had the perfect voice and diction. Listen to her last song 'Now'
Thanks for the recommendation!
While Karen gets so much of the attention for obvious reasons, the arrangements and the song choices and the harmonies are all Richard’s creation.
God, yeah, the arrangement in this song was so good it hit really hard!!
You have great taste in music 🎉🎉🎉
I'm only starting to explore it now, but it's fantastic and I've been having so much fun!
Personally there's so many great songs by Karen Carpenter and that beautiful voice I just can't decide
That's fair! Thanks for watching Jim!
I ❤your reactions. Gone too soon😢
We lost
You're right Patty, she was taken way too soon from us... Thanks for watching ❤
@ I support your Patreon. You rake me bank to my childhood years. Would you or have you done Olivia Newton-John. She and Karen were great friends.
@@sassypatty2666 Did you join as a free member on my Patreon, because I don't think I see you there... I will be posting free videos for members on a monthly basis, so if that interests you, you can join, it's free!
And no I have not, maybe I should look into her for a future reaction!!
Dan, I don’t know how to use Partreon. Gen X geek here.
That's fine! If you have an email, I can maybe help you better there.
@ I joined. My cover has been blown.
Please react to "Indila - Dernière Danse (Clip Officiel)".
J'ai déjà écouté cette chanson, c'est EXTRÊMEMENT populaire! C'est une chanson exceptionelle. Indila est l'une de mes chanteuses préférées! 😁
