Angelic voice with Richard's arrangements is why in 14 years at least 22 gold and platinum records! Can you imagine if she had lived how many hits, they might have given us? If you have not heard NOW by the Carpenters, find it and listen, it stirs the soul like only a select few songs are able too!

"Sha-la-la-la", "Shing-a-ling" and "Woa-woa-woe" are trademarks of 1950s and early 1960s music! For a "crash course" in that music, you need go no further than the group "Sha Na Na". You guys are so right! Hearing a song from my childhood or high school/college years takes me back immediately to those days. I can tell people what year songs came out with a fair amount of accuracy because I remember where I was in my life when I first heard the song. I’m sure many others can do the same. Music is very powerful. My husband (a former MS/HS band director) and I instilled a love of music in our daughter from when she was little. We made sure she knew hits from the 70s and 80s. She, in turn, kept us in the loop on music that was popular while she was growing up. She’s now 21, and I’m grateful we had her or we would have missed out on some great music. Kids will do that to you ~ they keep you young. I still love Karen Carpenter ~ I think she’s my all-time fav female voice. Great reaction ~ love you guys! ☺️💕

Only the best 'sing-along' music of all time! As a male, I always appreciated the key choice for me, as I could(/can) sing along by just dropping an octave and blend right in! :) Wish I still had the 'A Song for You' album... (I wonder what ever happened to it...)

This is exactly how music makes us feel. When I hear an old song, it can definitely take me back in time to a certain memory... so nostalgic and happy and sad at the same time.

I read the comments and feel so happy that i was young in the 70s to appreciate all the amazing bands at the time, loving pink floyd, steely dan, genesis !! The list goes on and on!! And as everyone thinks karen carpenters voice is second to none!! The songs were so beautiful and no female artist before or since in my opinion has came close to matching the unique sound that the carpenter’s produced, she will never ever be forgotten thats for sure!!

karen carpenter has one of the most beautiful pop voices in history
she died very young of anorexia, she was 32 years young,
she could have become one of the greatest of all time

In my humble opinion, she STILL IS the greatest of all time. No other female "pop" vocalist today even comes close to having Karen Carpenter type talent. And she also was the drummer for the band.

There were artists that when we heard them new in the 60's, 70's, 80's we just knew we'd still be listening to decades later. The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Carpenters, Styx, The Bee Gees, and many more. I really wonder if anyone gets that feeling from any of today's artists.

Thanks team, you took me back to when I was a child, watching my mother sing along to this as she played records on the old school built in stereo. I remember her wearing huge cork platforms and denim jeans with bell bottoms so big they covered her platforms like a tent. She passed away late last century but this took me back immediately. Thanks for the memories. I miss her to this day

This track is from the Carpenters' semi-concept album "Now & Then". This track began side 2, which then continues with a side-long medley of cover versions of 50s & 60s songs, so this song is very directly a commentary on the old songs we all know and love, whatever generation we're from...
PS the medley is "interrupted" from time to time by a radio DJ, played by Tony Peluso, who played the amazing fuzz-guitar solo on "Goodbye To Love"...

There are at least a few dozen Carpenters songs that sound like they were or could have been hits. How they charted doesn't matter. It's just great music and sounds worthy of being hits. I'll put on a Carpenters album, let it play, and never skip songs. It just makes my mood better and it's cathartic for my soul. Thank you for a fantastic reaction.

One of my all-time favourite compilations is the double CD of The Carpenters' "Gold 35th Anniversary Edition" (obviously this song is on it) - 40 cracking tracks that showcase Karen's amazing voice, the siblings' harmonies and great arrangements from Richard.

I love listening to the 60s and 70s music because it does take me back to when I was a teenager and then by 1979 a young married woman with four daughters and in the 80s two sons. I'm 70 now. Thanks for playing these songs!

I'm a 62 year old man and I still tear up when I hear Karen. I was about 11 the first time I heard the Carpenters and I loved them and so did the rest of the world. In 1984 I was delivering bread at a grocery store in Stoughton Wisconsin when the news announced her passing. I remember sitting in my bread truck sobbing. I never met her. I didn't know her but I felt a tremendous sense of loss. The world lost a real treasure that day. Thank you for keeping her memory alive. This is the perfect song to do that❤️

Karen is honoring the music that came before especially with the 59 s and 60 s with the sha la las and shing a lings. The words, melodies of yesterday's music that influenced her first as a drummer and then a singer and as a musician who deeply listened to every lyric and song. So when you put in a record from the music that came before it can bring so much back whether joy or heartbreak. You guys should really check out her live drum solo to see what an amazing drummer she truly was. Drumming was her passion vs. Singing but her voice was discovered as lovely and unique as it was and the rest was history. There has never been another Karen. The harmonies and arrangements by her brother Richard just made magic with sis Karen.
