Interesting fact the bass guitarist he discovered Jimi Hendrix as an unknown in the States, he brought Jimi to England and the rest is history
That's really interesting!!
I think that "House of the Rising Sun" is a "beat bluesy" adaptation of a centennial folk song.
Yep, apparently this isn't an original but a remake of an old 1933 song (which is crazy old!)
@@DanCanReact Not centennial then.
Garfunkel was notorious difficult to work with, and someone asked Simon once why he put up with him and he answered "have you ever heard an angel sing".
Didn't they argue with each other a lot? But he's right, he has the voice of an angel!!
The live version from their concert in Central Park is great.
Awesome!
Eric Burdon and The Animals are icons. This song is iconic. Love your reaction!
Love your comment! Thanks for watching Anita 🥰
I can't see his face but it's got to be Randy Misner!!! I would know that angelic voice anywhere!!!!!! I hate that they all couldn't get along and Randy left the group. We got a great substitute in Timothy B Schmit! He has a heavenly voice as well .... Love Will Keep Us Alive!
This 1975 song is during their upward streak towards their world-wide fame...they are (as always) giving their 120%, and the couples are sooo in love at this period.
I see! This song is ICONIC, much like the other songs I've listened to thus far. I have yet to find a song that I don't enjoy 😄
I actually cried when I heard there would be another album. I love ABBA. They've always been there for me. To get my kids to go to sleep when they were very little, I would hum Like an Angel Passing Through My Room. Works great. Singing kept them awake, humming...perfect.
That's lovely, glad they mean so much to you. Slowly, they are becoming more and more special to me too!
Eric Burdon was 23 years of age looked 18 and sounded 40. Alan Price on the organ/piano later had his own group and the bass guitarist discovered Jimmi Hendrix and became his Manager.
Wow, he discovered Jimmi Hendrix!! That's really cool 😝
You right his heart and soul was put into this song. He put his career on the line the night he sang this song. Colonel Tom Parker told him not to do this song that he was supposed to do a christmas song as his last song. When you see him look up he's looking at the colonel. The t v network said if he did it they would pull the plug on him. This song was written for Martin Luther king , who had just been assassinated a few weeks before. They say he wanted to go to Martin Luther king's funeral but was not allowed. I guess because of contracts that stop him. One of his backup singers said when he finished the song he fell to the floor and cried. Yes, he put his heart And all his passion into it. They will never be another Elvis he'll always be the king.R.I.P. Elvis Martin Luther King Jr. Gave a public speech. I have a dream. So if you heard that speech then you can understand this song.
Damn, that is such a powerful story. I love how he did it anyway. This is a beautiful song 💕
Breakthrough. Scandal. I Want It All. Love Of My Life (Rio). Kind Of Magic (Wembley). 39(lyric video). Save Me. White Queen (Odeon). Don’t Stop Me Now. Now I’m Here (Wembley Roger cam). Princes Of The Universe (from movie Highlander)
Good recommendations, thanks!!
The Animals were part of the British Invasion. I have had the chance to see Eric Burdon 4 different times, here in Colorado. At 83, he is still touring.
Damn, he's awesome for touring at 83. What a legend 🔥
Thanks for the nice reaction The Animals The members of the British band The Animals in the 1960s were Eric Burdon (vocals), Alan Price (organ), Hilton Valentine (guitar), John Steel (drums) and Bryan 'Chas' Chandler (bass guitar). Historians have not been able to definitively identify The House Of The Rising Sun, but here are the two most popular theories: 1) The song is about a brothel in New Orleans. "The House Of The Rising Sun" was named after its occupant Madame Marianne LeSoleil Levant (which means "Rising Sun" in French) and was open for business from 1862 (occupation by Union troops) until 1874, when it was closed due to complaints by neighbors. It was located at 826-830 St. Louis St. 2) It's about a women's prison in New Orleans called the Orleans Parish women's prison, which had an entrance gate adorned with rising sun artwork. This would explain the "ball and chain" lyrics in the song. The melody is a traditional English ballad, but the song became popular as an African-American folk song. It was recorded by Texas Alexander in the 1920s, then by a number of other artists including Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Josh White and later Nina Simone. It was her version The Animals first heard. No one can claim rights to the song, meaning it can be recorded and sold royalty-free. Many bands covered the song after it became a hit for The Animals.
Awesome, this was a really interesting read! I didn't know it was ALSO about a women's prison, but that "ball and chain" lyric makes sense now. Didn't realize it was royalty free, since my video got copyrighted. I guess because of the video I used, which is an upscaled version of the music video.
I heard they did this in one take
Wouldn't be surprised, since many artists back then were so talented 🙏
this was #1 the week I was born! The Animals are great. Knew you'd love his voice. Check out "It's My Life" but make SURE you check out the lyrics cuz most people miss the verse "There'll be women and their fortunes who just want to mother orphans. Are you gonna cry when I'm squeezin them dry, takin' all I can get, with no regrets? When I....openly lie! And take all their money! Believe me honey, that money....can you believe? I aint no saint! No restraints, holding me down, so stick around! And baby (baby) remember (remember) It's my life and I''ll do what I want...." Pretty heavy stuff for mid sixties airwaves!!!!
Damn, so I assume this song has a special place in your heart! And thanks for the recommendation 🙏
Check out Waterloo
That is an upcoming reaction!
Try The Boxer by S and G
Thanks for the recommendation John!
React to Average White Band.
Randy was the best singer of them all in the best Eagles song ever
He definitely has a lovely voice!
Kaysee here ... wow, that's a blast from the past! Eric Burdon is the lead singer of The Animals and like you said, Dan, he has a very unique and powerful voice. Don't you love that they're all wearing the same outfits hahaha. I think it was something common in English bands of the 60s. It's a great song.
Yeah, they have some awesome style! Glad you enjoyed this reaction Kaysee, appreciate it!!
Check out the psychedelic 70's guitar version by Frijid Pink.
You'll love We Gotta Get Out of This Place also by the Animals
I see! Thanks for the recommendation 😃🙏
Although The Animals made it the epic song that it is. Originally it was recorded by Clarence Tom Ashley and Gwen Foster 1933. it was titled Rising Sun Blues. So yes it's an old song. The Animals are a British band and this was there 2nd single 1964. If you want a current cover of this song check out Erik Gronwalls current masterpiece.
Wow, didn't know it was technically a cover of an old song! 1933 is a long time ago 😯
@ Nina Simone covered the song and its that cover the Animals appreciated wanted to make it there own. Her slow acoustic version is FIRE
Written by Brian for the Queen Soundtrack for the movie Highlander. What a beautiful song.
Agreed! Looking forward to seeing that film 😄
check out new year's day @red rocks
Gotcha!
the voices in total harmony created the total blend of the Bee Gees signature sound that is one in a lifetime and cannot be compared to any group.
Maybe so, but I felt like the technique was something quite similar to ABBA's harmonies, but obviously in a completely different style
This is just a brilliantly constructed pop song (this is in my top 3 ABBA songs)
All of ABBA's songs - so far - have been brilliantly constructed pop songs!!
Are you sure youre not Joe Walsh
A doppelganger.
AHA he may be my secret father 😱
Freddy told the people, if they want to hear the studio version they should buy the LP and listen to the songs in their own living rooms. Live, he always made something special and it work. Live is often better. Greetings from germany.
That was DEFINITELY the case for Freddie and all the members of Queen, however, LIVE being better nowadays is generally not the case...
That angelic voice is Art Garfunkle 's beautiful tones. One of the best male singers of his generation. They are moving and comforting and gently calming. Always loved them, always will.❤
Angelic is totally the right word for his voice ❤
It's fiction but it has influences of the divorce of Björn and Agnetha, who have 2 children together and got married in 1972 but grew apart, Agnetha was unhappy with all the travelling of the group and that Björn was less and less at home and was in the studio until night and she got tantrums when he came home. At some point they could no longer live together but wanted to continue working with abba, which succeeded at first but then became increasingly difficult when Benny and Frida also got divorced and, above all, Björn married their nanny, who looked like Agnetha, very shortly after his divorce from Agnetha.
Gotcha, I really appreciate your breakdown!
The guy playing the double necked guitar, Don Felder, wrote the music for this song and, before he became an Eagle, taught guitar to Tom Petty in Florida.
I see! Such a great song 😍
Imagine writing a break up song & then asking your ex if she will sing it for you!
One of the worse possible things to have to do during such a time... She's a champ for singing this.
Supposedly the bridge is heroine. Both were said to be users. "sSil on silver girl" , hypodermic syringe. " Your time has come to shine, all your dreams on the way." This was a very controversial interpretation but it seems to be plausible.
Wow, that's an interesting interpretation. Thanks for sharing!
RIP FREDDIE MERCURY 1946-1991 DIED 11/24/1991 45 YRS OLD 🎤🎹🎸🥁🎸🎵 WE LOVE AND MISS YOU ❤️ ❤❤❤

Great reaction!
Thanks Jennifer!!
And bear in mind that English was their second language and yet they were able to pen these amazing lyrics with all the nuances of the language as well as write the most amazing tunes. No wonder there are university courses now based around the music of ABBA!
Such a talented group, love their music so much 🥰
Nice to know Randy and Timothy were friends till Randy died. Both very nice bassplayers.
That's nice! May they rest peacefully..
@@DanCanReact Tim's still fine. Randy died in 2023.
Yeah apologies, misread that.
Together they were very harmonieus, but our favorite singer was RANDY Meisner the bassplayer with his amazing voice, the real GOLDEN EAGLE, a very kind and very handsome man too. He got an ovation in Tokyo from 7 minutes!!
They played in Tokyo? AWESOME!
@@DanCanReact This Hotel California tour lasted about 11 months; North America, Europe, and Asia. Hopefully some time off during that but not much. Randy said he was exhausted and quit the band at the end of it.
Enjoyed your Reaction to this incredible man & singer. Such a powerful voice & such passion in each performance. Trying To Get To You - ‘68 Comeback Special is another powerful performance by Elvis, as he made a comeback into live performances after 10 years of no live performances … 2 years in the army in Germany, & then 8 years making movies, as the highest paid actor in Hollywood. He did appear on the Frank Sinatra Show in 1960 for a very high cost to Frank. He did three songs, one of them with the famous Frank Sinatra himself. Lots of screaming during Elvis’ two solo performances. Well worth you checking out. Subbed for your Elvis Reactions.
Thanks so much for watching David, I'm glad you enjoyed!
You want to trying Barcelona a duet he done with montserrat caballé I think you'd enjoy that more Freddie when he done solo career
You must see The live performance of this song , at Central Park yr 1980
I'd love to see that!
This was LIVE.....think of that when you hear the lead singer and the harmonies.....
So impressive, for real!
This is his usual way of dressing especially for his bigger concerts and and this was his biggest .. From Hawaii aloha from Hawaii It was viewed in 40 countries by 1.5 Billion people worldwide. The complete concert is available here on utube.
1.5 billion people world wide is CRAZY! That's an unfathomable amount of people watching that.
P.S. The Doc wrote this in the back of a cab after coming back from seeing "Highlander" rushes. Showoff.
Interesting, thanks for filling me in on that!!
Hello young man. Stopped in for Queen, of course. Been a fan since your grandparents were dating. (You laugh. I'm serious. How does 1974 grab you?) In all the reactions I've enjoyed, your characterisation of this song being fitting of a Disney Prince made me laugh out loud. While it was indeed sung by a British Queen, I can now totally see it via a Disney Prince as well. I liked your reaction very much. Well done!
Wow, so you've been a long time fan! Thanks so much for watching my reaction 🥰
This was one of the greatest bands ever ,they were the full package
I agree!
Check out close to you 1970 official video. You will see her play the drums and sing...amazing. in a interview she refers to herself as a drummer who sings because drums where her first passion
I'd love to see her play the drums in better detail, so that's a great recommendation. Maybe I'll do a reaction video for it! 😛
Cool check out the 1976 tv special drum solo that's the best one out on TH-cam
If you want to see her drum and sing together, "Close to you" 1970 official video. It is live.
And the fact he was dying when they wrote and recorded it
That's tragic, but so impressive 😲
@tanjabredehoeft2857 so you're telling me he didn't know months, maybe a year before he was diagnosed what was happening to him. Think again.
The movie Highlander came out in January of 1986. The soundtrack had to be completed before the release date, obviously. Freddie died towards the end of 1991, so a good 5 to 6 years between the song being written and Freddie's untimely passing. Freddie may have had an idea he was ill at the time of the soundtrack being made but I really don't think Brian had his death in mind when he wrote this one. Sorry, mate.
