      Don’t the xl850, it’s faulty and Trane is not admitting the fault.
      I got 04/2020 xvi20 heatpump with xl850. From day one 850 junk, and I requested the cl1050. Trane told me, is my house- Airflow. After 4 weeks and having the installer several times in my house, and cl850 replaced ones with another 850 against my will. Trane finely replaced xl850 with the 1050. After that everything works great. Trane is installing a external wireless temperature sensor with xl850, to hide the fault from the customer. You as customer pay full price for a faulty xl850 thermostat. I reported that criminal behavior from Trane to the attorney general.
      Request rhe xl1050 thermostats. And you will be happy. At the end my installer asked me, to leave the 2 xl850 in my house. For what ??? Collect dust ??

    OK, now that I have had it several months I can comment on the energy savings. Compared to the same period last year the first HALF month was $60 less HOWEVER the next FULL MONTH was $242 LESS than the previous year! So we pay on budget which averages the previous years bills into a set amount you pay each month until the next year is recalculated. My bill was $330 a month however with ONLY 1 1/2 months of installing this Trane 18 SEER system my average(which was due to be recalculated) dropped to $289 a month! I am hoping with a full year of bills, even though the winter does not use the AC(we hope to also save on gas!) the next recalculation will be EVEN LESS THAN THIS ONE! Should have replaced this several years ago but did not think we would save this much per month! I am SO GLAD we went with the 18 SEER system. Don't think it would have been worth going to the 20 seer but think it is better than 16 or 17 SEER would have been. Now just hoping for many years of service!

    Not necessary to install extra box even if you choose to use the nexia webcams. There is a box which is installed at the HVAC furnace site however it is not an extra as it is necessary for the thermostat to work. I love the picture frame which you can put as many pictures as you would like on a SD card and after a period of time(you can set it, we use 30 seconds) it will scroll through your photos like a digital picture frame(which is exactly what it is) and you can set the time each photo stays up(we have it set at 4 or 5 seconds). Everytime we walk down the hall we see various pictures which we love. We have family pictures, travel photos, etc from long time ago photos we have converted to digital to recent photos! As time goes on we have become VERY used to having this and use it ALL THE TIME for seeing the current weather and the forecast as well as alerts( you set it to your location) and even RADAR! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

    My system has been running for a month and so far so good! Very nice installation and equipment is purring. Currently 24 degrees and heat pump appears to be keeping up fine. That stat is pretty cool. I like the graphs showing me how much it's running. I'm monitoring closely now and trying to fine tune the system. I'm glad I went with Trane because I considered the Carrier Infinity but these heat pump seems to heat very well! Extremly pleased. Just thought I'd give you an update.

    Great review. Thanks. We just installed a Trane XV 18 and already saved over $114 in the first eight days of operation over last month's bill. We replaced a 19 year old Trane (top of the line back then) with a 10 seer. It was still working but just about fell apart (air handler) when they removed it. We live in Naples Florida and Advanced Air changed out the complete system in under five hours.

    My experience has been somewhat different, and disappointing. We have a 3 mth old XL18i heat pump w/Comfortlink2 thermostat. We did add heat & air to a 20x20 room that was once a garage turned into family room. We used space heaters & a portable a/c for this room for a few yrs up until now. Even though we did add heat/air to this room I figured the cost would almost equal out with our past method of space heaters & portable A/C since those are so inefficient. Last months bill compared to last years bill was $18 Higher, AND the bill from last month was based on 28 days compared to last years 32. The month before was $67 higher based on 32 days & 28 days last year. It just doesn't make since to me that I am not seeing any savings. Also, when it was hot out the unit was as quiet as a mouse, but once I turned the heat on it's as loud as an 18-wheeler coming down the road!

    • @9mmsteve
      @9mmsteve  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ours is NOT a heat pump. That is probably the difference. Personally I do not care for heat pumps. The compressor runs for AC and Heat where as in a regular system the compressor only runs in summer with AC. You probably should have not got the heat pump model and got the regular gas heat(or even electric heat). Was your old system a heat pump, I bet not cause you are hearing the compressor running.

      Probably bad install, A lot of people do not realise how a bad install negates all the SEER rating. ie: copper lineset not sized at the correct diameter for the AC, mismatched air handler/condenser unit etc..

    Looks pretty, but after 10 years I cannot get my updated with the latest firmware. Called Trane customer service, was referred to their technical dept for thermostats. They all say contact your local dealer. Why can't the firmware be downloaded direct from Trane? They use to have it on line, but not anymore. You must spend money with your local Trane dealer. Called a couple, that have not called back after two days. My previous dealer does not have a technician trained for my XL 950 zone controller. Not very customer friendly. No more Trane/Ingersoll Rand for me.

  • @alowatsakima8950
    @alowatsakima8950 ปีที่แล้ว

    DON'T!. No factory service. You have to Pay your local Trane dealer to update it or if you forget your pin. The zone control unit does not allow a zone to be "off", because the programming allows for a 40% air bypass. Keep up the maintenance, just keep paying the local dealer $, he deserves it, because you have a Trane. My filters are 5" thick and good down to 5 microns. Buy them direct to save money.I've had mine 11 years. So lots of experience, "There is no substitute for experience."

    Not happy with my Comfort Link II (850 thermostat - which is the little brother to the 950) - had it for 4 weeks, 2 story, XV18 heat pump with variable speed blower air handler in basement. Won't push enough A/C cold air to the 2nd floor before the blower slows to a trickle. 1st floor is comfortable but 2nd floor is not. No manual override is available. The manual fan setting is overruled/negated by the "system" (computerized thermostat) when it starts cooling or heating. It then runs for a verrrry long time at low speed (often several hours) during which time the 2nd story gets little air flow and gets hotter in summer. Can't replace my Comfort Link II 850 with a traditional thermostat because the system apparently uses a non standard proprietary connection to the thermostat. Should have kept my old system. It blew cold air (and heat) on my demand when I wanted it. I like having air flow to the farther reaches of my house. Apparently my definition of comfort doesn't match with Trane's. I'm still looking for solutions and am hoping I don't have to spend another $10K+ to resolve it.

    • @davidkirkham6497
      @davidkirkham6497 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      M Your home should be zoned for this to work properly. These variable speed units have trouble moving enough air 3 floors because it will satisfy the controller & as it reaches set point it starts to slow down both blower & compressor. It your controller was o top floor it would then cool or heat to the set point on that floor or zoned like I previously suggested with sensors on each floor. Or the duct work should have been modified to accommodate a variable speed system. Also If you can, you should have the XL 950 controller installed as I believe there are settings for comfort, eco etc which may keep the system from ramping down as quickly.

    Should I be concerned if the date and time drop following a storm? It is August 1, 2016 and it dropped to March 3, 2012 this morning and earlier last week to March 3, 2011. I reset it in settings but is this normal? I got my Trane XV 20i in 2014. I got the whole house auto air filtration system, air scrubber and Aprilaire 800 steam humidifier. I've loved it but am concerned about this setting drop. Also, although the thermostat is usually set at 76 but it will occasionally show as tho it's 80 degrees in here but the Trane is racing and it gets freezing cold. I put in a call for service but would really feel bad if this is not normal and it's going bad!

    I live not far from you and have just ordered an XV20i with an XL1050 being setup next week. Do you have GA Power? If you do, I can hope to see similar savings to yours compared to the 20 year old Goodman I am replacing. I understand that the 1050 is very similar to the 950. Does yours have an Ethernet port? I know the 1050 does and I am trying to determine how to terminate the Cat 6 at the site of the thermostat in preparation for the installation.

    Great info thank you, I am a huge Trane fan, My current Trane Heat Pump is 18 years old and still going strong but its only 10 SEER, so I am replacing it with the XL18i heat pump. I am also getting a 4 Ton unit. Is yours a heat pump? I am just curious how it does in the winter since we use a lot more heat here in Maryland. Do you have the Hyperion Air Handler? and is it as quiet as they say?

    I appreciate the review. I'm getting reay to replace my 18 year old Trane with a XV95 furnace and XR-15 heat pump. I plan to get this control as well. How do you utilize the heat pump and emergency heat mode on this system?

    • @9mmsteve
      @9mmsteve  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My system is not a heat pump, it is a variable gas heater and electric cooling. All I can say is my 20 year old system was working fine until it just stopped HOWEVER my first electric bill was $150 less than last years SAME month AND the second bill was $214 less than the same period of time last year. It was over 1000 kw less power used. Plus last year we were keeping our system at 79 & 80 degrees, sweating every day and night in order to keep our bill lower BUT this year we are keeping our air at 76 & 77 which is not only cooler but feels even COOLER because this new energy efficient system also figures in to account the humidity of the house. Old systems do not. So our humidity level is lower also which makes the house feel MUCH cooler! We are SAVING ENERGY (money) AND staying MUCH COOLER TO! I should have replaced my HVAC several years ago. We pay our bill on a budget that the electric company averages out and with only 2 1/2 months of a new system our average was time to refigure and it went from us paying $330 a month to $289 a month! I am hoping once more months get averaged in that next year it goes down MORE....unless our great leader does what he said he would do, "Electric rates will skyrocket under my administration" BUT even then my bills will be less. This NEW SYSTEM has exceeded my expectations as far as how good it works and how much ENERGY we have saved!

    • @9mmsteve
      @9mmsteve  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Highlt However from my understanding this TRANE thermostat will work with a Heat Pump. Now that I have had it several months I know most of what it will do and it is GREAT! I can control from my phone which is great if you want to raise or lower temperature of house or prepare for coming home, etc. I have it set so pictures scroll through it. Just by sliding in a SD card it will scroll through them after sitting idle for a set time period. I have mine set for 3 minutes. You can also control how long each picture stays on the screen. So instead of a mechanical thing on the wall you now have a Digital Picture Frame. Quality is very acceptable. Maybe not the resolution of an expensive separate digital frame but very acceptable and nice each time we walk by to see various pictures! Love that feature a lot. ALSO this system takes into account the humidity of house. Unlike MOST others on the market which are solely temperature this(like the deluxe attic fans) take into account the humidity of the house which really helps the house feel better and more comfortable.

    Whats the square footage of your house??? I ask this because I just had a trane xv18 with the same thermostat you have (comfort link ll) and don't like the way the system is cooling the other side of my house. I have a 2 zone system with 3025sf and had it for about 4 days now. Thanks for posting this! I am considering the xv80 and the xv20i. I'm curious if you have a 3 ton or 4 ton system and what is the Sq of your home, if you don't mind my asking? I was quoted about 14 for the system. Does that sound about right?

    • @9mmsteve
      @9mmsteve  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is 4 ton however as I mentioned my system is variable speed, even the AC, so most of the time it runs at energy savings 2 1/2 ton. Last month was $150 savings over the previous years Average for that month. PLUS I was keeping it LOW testing it out. I can actually set this system at a higher temp (as I think I mention in the video) and feels colder than my other system at lower setting while at the same time SAVING energy= saving money!! It is because this system is aware of the humidity in the air and works to lower it to preferred range where the older systems did not account for humidity. Lower humidity makes if feel colder!!! My system is the 18i....18 SEER.

  • @krazzykarl27
    @krazzykarl27 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    you are really saving $150 every month?

    • @9mmsteve
      @9mmsteve  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Karl Schranz During the summer sometimes even more. It is amazing. It is probably more my 18 SEER than the thermostat. The 2 stage AC is great and I am also saving in the winter with the variable speed furnace. Amazingly enough my system should even be more efficient due to an installation error which was just caught during my recent maintenance visit. It had been that way for a year(since installation). I wish I had replaced my HVAC years before I did. I would have saved a lot on power bills. I think anything above 18 SEER would have been a waste of money and the maintenance tech said this unit is right in the sweet spot for saving money vs cost of system so I am glad I did my research and went with the 18 SEER system/2 Stage AC, variable speed furnace. The system is 4.5 tons AC and 80,000 BTU furnace!

      I have been installing trane systems for 5 years now with only one regular 14 seer compressor replaced due to leak, low pressure swich killed compressor. TRANE is quality if workmanship is applied as expected by any manufacturer. Even that basic unit failure had none to do with system because it was a loose shredder valve that leaked out.
      Trane's most basic 14 seers comes with both low and high pressure switches. Carrier has a couple of models that comes with no pressure switch at all.
      Trane is quality if done properly.
