    I had a Bryant central air. When it went out my HVAC contractor talked me into an Amana system. He told me it had a lifetime warranty. About 8 years later the compressor when out. He told me no problem and brought me a brand new one, no charge.
    I called Amana which is made by Goodman air conditioner company here in Houston and ask them if they still give lifetime warranty on their units. They said anything with a 16 SEER rating and above.
    They said in the future if it goes out just let the HVAC company know and they will replace the unit FREE !
    You can't beat a deal like that.

      I have an Amana that was installed 5 years and 4 months ago blow a coil. They told me since it wasn’t registered the warranty is only 5 years. I had no idea I needed to register to get 10 year warranty. New construction 16 seer unit and Amana told me to kick rocks. That’s why I’m looking at Trane.

    • @davewil3
      @davewil3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@teflonjim , Trane also requires you register to increase warranty to 10 years.

    • @teflonjim
      @teflonjim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davewil3 was new construction so I wasn’t aware of the requirement. Maybe the builder or installer could have Registered it or let me know about this requirement so I could have done it. Just seems a little crappy to not cover new construction because it wasn’t registered. Anyway lesson learned and I will not buy Goodman or Amana equipment again since they didn’t stand behind the equipment.

    It is a VFD (variable frequency drive) that changes single phase 230v 60 cycle to 3 phase 230 volt 60cycle and manages speed by changing the cycle, not the voltage. Came out right around 2000. So when it slows the compressor down, reducing the amp load when not needed. It has a programmer than can sense outdoor temp and the high side, liquid side of the compressor. They also run 2 compressors on some of their units, large and smaller

    I bought the vx-19 side discharge unit and tam 9 air handler. It will be interesting to find how much I will save on my bill. The only real downside to buying the high efficiency unit is the part cost up to 4 times more for parts and labor than a 1 or 2 operating speed unit.

    First and foremost, great job on delivering the information about your product. Forget about the haters in these comments. Last time I checked AMERICA is the country of "free market" and in my personal opinion and EXPERIENCE you can charge what ever YOU think YOU'RE worth. Therefore, if you believe in yourself and in your crew then I don't see as to why 14-20k is an outrages number. I've seen job that people charged only 5-7k and we were out there 1-2 years later because the company who installed it "was just too busy at the moment" a lot of the time "low price" equals LOW QUALITY because of the HIGH quantity of installs they do without following proper procedures. So people need to consider what they really paying for when they shop for the LOWEST bid. But than again what do I know ????? Cheers

    Get a mini split system (they make air handles too) waaaaay cheaper and more energy efficient. Better yet get spray foam for your attic. Just by doing that my electric bill went down 30%! You can have the best cooling system in the world, but If your attic is 140 degrees will tremendously impact your cooling system. On the hottest day here in south Florida my attic only reaches 80 degrees! Bottom line, if you want to save money, get spray foam in your attic and not a 12k-16k AC system! Just a little FYI my house is 1500Sq I have 16 seer Carrier AC system and my electrical bill is only $120-$130 I keep my house at 71-73 24/7 👍🏻

      Spray foam and 80 attic temp in SFL? Does your attic have an exhaust fan? Where is the foam sprayed? Onto the inside of the roof? I've got at least 2 feet of blown insulation throughout but it doesn't lower attic temp.

    I bought a Trane. Just vailed because a couple of tubes in the coil rubbed against each other until one of the tubes failed and leaked all the Freon out. Can't be fixed, they said just buy another one. On top of all that my XL controller has to be updated by the dealer, but the dealer doesn't know how to do it, and Trane will not help a homeowner. They just tell you to contact another dealer. I've called dealers across the country and none of them update the controllers. (Why would Trane generate new firmware if it wasn't better, but the dealers that claim they are factory trained, but they cannot update the firmware.

    Going into the attic to clean the Cleaneffects air cleaner is a pain. They work ok, but consider where it is mounted and know it takes min 2x per year access. Drag a vacuum up there with you or be prepared for several trips up and down the attic ladder.

  • @bradranks628
    @bradranks628 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I would HIGHLY suggest NOT buying anything by the Trane brand. Here's why:
    I purchased 2 new systems from them thinking I was getting "better equipment", but that could not be further from the truth.
    Keep in mind that I live in Arizona where the temps are 115º plus.
    Now, the first issue is that one of the 2 units went out immediately. It broke when I was out of town forcing the heater to run indefinitely, even though it was set to cool only. As it turns out, they cover all of their wring with peanut oil!?? Well guess what, mice LOVE peanut oil and they were attracted to that lovely taste (probably why we set traps with peanut butter and it works so well). This to me is just simply a bad business decision. Needless to say, everything in our room melted as the temperature was kept above 118 for 3 days straight, while we were gone. Now none of our drawers close correctly, our doors do not shut right and all of the oil in our wood furniture is gone.
    On to #2!
    Oh, Keep in mind, these are less than 1 year old! I am still paying $20,000.00 for these two "lovely" babies!!
    This time the coil went out, causing us to live in the peak AZ heat for almost a week. I was told that this is uncommon for any brand. I guess we are just lucky.
    #3
    This time the control module went out in the air handler!
    I was told this never happens unless it is just a bad unit... Again, I guess I am just lucky.
    #4
    This time the Thermostat broke. This is their proprietary thermostat, so their own technology on that thing. Good luck with these things, they have some convoluted method of resetting and joining the network or adopting to your account that is a real treat.
    #5
    Did I mention that I still have a good year or more to go on my payments for these gems!!!
    Now, the coil went out and leaked out all of the refrigerant. back to 100º in our house!
    They said it would be at least a week before they could get the part to me (which I thought was a bit long for such a well know brand with distribution) so I wrote them a letter on their website asking why Amazon can get me anything I need in 2 hours, but they take a week, even though they are installing hundreds of these daily, in my city. I also asked is this the type of "QUALITY" that I should expect from my purchase decision to go with them?
    Guess what I received back in response to that letter? Well, if you guessed NOTHING, you would be correct.
    Par for the course here with Trane.
    #6
    The vents and 2 stage motor never really seemed to be very productive, so I called my dealer locally and asked them to investigate. They found that this unit was shipped with malformed flashing on the air handler and it was blocking 80% of the air flow. He trimmed it out and got it back to normal. So, again, I write another letter to Trane on their website asking if this is something that should be replaced or if it is common and again asked if this is the "Quality" I should expect from their brand. My Answer?
    Ding Ding Ding, if you guessed NOTHING again!
    #7
    Still waiting on my coil to be delivered after 2 weeks and the installer just called to tell me that Trane sent the wrong coil, so we will need to reorder it from them, AGAIN, and I need to wait.
    So, moral of the story?
    If you want really bad quality, tons of headaches, appointments, ruined furniture and pay at least 4 times as much as other brands, you should absolutely buy Trane.
    Or if you simply want the indoors of your house to be like this, then you should also buy Trane! Otherwise buy ANYTHING ELSE.

  • @balferono4568
    @balferono4568 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fyi, Trane has lost it’s edge. I have an under warranty L20i that the dealers cannot get parts for. It’s been down for 3 weeks and parts will not show up for another 2 weeks. When it works it cools like any ac, when it doesn’t you’re screwed.

    I had the same unit installed this fall with a hyperion air handler and the Comfort Link II, like you mentioned it must be used with this system. Only problem is it only reports history like it's a two stage system, instead of the variable speeds the system works with. You end up not knowing what's really going on with the heat until your bill arrives. Trane needs a better control system that gives you much better feedback. I do know that my house temp is 5 degrees colder than it should be this morning. I also know my 20yr old 2 stage system that the XV20i replaced (both same size tonage so the new one was promised as way better) was able to keep the temp inside as set and I could easily see when it was using the electric coils to do so. Not so on the Comfort Link II - it may be more advanced but I find it useless for what matters most - knowing what the system is doing and well it is performing. As far as changing temps when trying to heat, it is the most inefficient way to run vs just keeping a constant temp, so why, why does Trane keep making a big deal out of something that doesn't save you anything!! I lot of money spent but not getting much in return.

    • @hvacmike1175
      @hvacmike1175 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you need to set the lockouts on your aux heat if its a heat pump. this will keep the electric heat off unless the outdoor temp gets below your lockout setting.

    • @bobsmith3605
      @bobsmith3605 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like a great idea! it's a heat pump for sure so set the lockouts. As a homeowner I have absolute no idea on where the lockouts are set for aux heat. The only thing I can set on this Comfort link is a useless schedule which as I mentioned only makes the heat pump/aux heat work harder trying to heat the house back up after you foolishly let it cool down during a winter night. Early morning when waking is usually the coldest part of the day so makes no sense to me why you would ask for the most heat at a time when there is very little to be had. The Comfort link gives a nice weather forecast, but I can get that on my phone.

  • @toddjames8830
    @toddjames8830 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only reason I ask is no matter what you lose 20% efficiency during heating with a 80% furnace. Now if you put in a Mitisubishi hyper heat heat pump with their air handler that has an eev & full capacity down to 5 degrees the one in our office was doing 130 degrees at 0 outside.

  • @christschool
    @christschool 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There is a lot of misinformation on this video. What he doesn't tell you is that these systems have more sensors, meaning there will be more maintenance, the weatherguard he says is unique to this level is not true, many Trane models have weatherguards. It's a catch 22. Pay more for the efficiency and lower running costs vs. pay less for a 2 stage which require less maintenance costs. from my experience, its a wash.

    I love the new technology but as soon as you mount the furnace in the attic you lose all that you are trying to save. I would guess that you lose 30-60 percent of the efficiency of these high performance units by running everything thru the attic. I don't understand why it takes the government to step in to make it a code to ban attic installed furnaces. These installers are either clueless or just don't want to do things the right way.

    • @PVMoose
      @PVMoose 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are no basements in much of the southern US therefore the government won't be banning attic installations any time soon. As for 30-60 percent efficiency loss.... I'd would love to see some data on that if you have it.

    • @tomdurkins
      @tomdurkins 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +David Lewis True. Most homes in the south are built without basements and I understand the HVAC installers are stuck with what they get from the builders that are trying to build the cheapest way possible. I'm just saying that the builders and the HVAC guys know how inefficient attic systems are but no one is willing to do anything about it. I hate when a company puts on a good front advertising Energy Star or High Efficiency when the builders and mechanical guys know it's all BS. We know how easy it is to put the furnace in a closet somewhere in the house or go a step further and build the ducts into the slab or crawlspace?

    • @tomdurkins
      @tomdurkins 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +David Lewis sorry missed the part about the 30-60 percent loss. What is you estimate on efficiency lost in the attic?

    • @PVMoose
      @PVMoose 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many new homes going to Foam attics. In those homes loss is maybe close to zero? In this case the units were installed on existing home with no alternative locations. They would have a huge jump in efficiency and need way less equipment to cool the house overall if the attic was foamed.

    Doctor: "...this man obviously died from unsanitized air"
    Home owner: "...but doctor David Lewis promised us 100% clean air!"
    David Lewis: " CORRECTION! I said 99.98% 6:04 "
    Home owner: "Fuck! How unlucky the 0.02 % killed him"
    Doctor: "No, no, no, let's not jump to conclusions homey; I'm not an HVAC tech but that 99.98% talk sounds like total bullshit to me"
    Home owner: " you might be right, you know, I'm starting to second guess that "no one can stop a trane" bullshit... It doesn't even spell right"
    David Lewis: "humhum" Clears his throat as he squirms out.
    Doctor: "I know it's not the right time but we just started accepting Paypal"
    Home owner: "huhmphuh" Weeping.

    Next time utilize attic space to do a quality installation. Who wants an open concept attic.

    Best air cleaner my ass. They barley work. A regular 4 inch media filter does a better job. TRANE wants to believe they make the best stuff on the planet but it isn’t anything special. They will screw you on warranties (dealt with hundreds of TRANE warrant claims) and not pay labor when they should. They are not anything special. Heat exchangers crack like crazy, secondaries plug, condenser coils are a pain to clean, AND they charge you an arm and a leg. It’s over priced. It’s nothing special. Literally any other HVAC manufacture has the SAME units available, that actually cover their warranties and don’t charge you the soul of your first born son.

      Um, I live in SFla, have a XL19i, 16yr old trane, the fan in the air handler just now decided to work intermittently.. I am going with the 20...and a Tam9.. All you Techs are reluctant to learn something new.. Lucky for you most people wont spend the extra for the best of the product line, so you can stay ignorant. I couldn't wait for my Trane to act up, to have an excuse to get a new one.. I thought it would never die!
