Fun Fact: When asked about his role, Orson Welles couldn't remember his character's name, and described his role as "a big toy who attacks a bunch of smaller toys".
Later on with more writing that giant toy would become "literal robot Satan, the concept of evil itself who will continue to exist as long as war, hate, and violence exist". Simultaneously a great final role for a man who changed cinema, but cruely ironic that it was a feature length toy commercial...
@@Baldwin-iv445 Yes and it absolutely broke my heart, I rewatched their commentary dozens of times and then one day it disappeared. I now have the video downloaded just in case something happens to it again 😭
Fun fact, every autobot and decepticon that died during this movie weren't just some generics, these where characters in the original show and toyline, beloved by children. Of course that didn't stop hasbro from killing them because their toys where off the shelves and replaced with the new characters introduced in the movie. Some characters like wheeljack, the autobots resident science man, creator of the dinobots and prominent character didn't even get a death scene, just a corpse shown for a frame and that's it.
@@TheRogueCommand It was actually due to his figure never officially being released, just as a mail offer to promote the movie. At least he didn't suffer the same fate as Skyfire, of never appearing again in the show due to copyright issues (That's why he's later called Jetfire)
@@TheRogueCommand Apparently I was misremembering, he was called Jetfire originally, then on the cartoon for "legal reasons" (which at least the wiki isn't 100% sure about) he was changed to Skyfire. Then his toy model, from a Macross toy, had to be changed as well. Supposedly they were planning on reintroducing him but it never happened in the original cartoon
Alan's reaction may have been the best part about all of this. Him getting to geek out like a little kid again at discovering something he thought was basically a meme
The original Transformers series is goofy 80s campiness at its finest. Most of it is stupid and dumb and a toy commercial but after a while you just can’t help but love it. There’s so much clear love and soul that goes into it that you just don’t see with other advertisement properties, and that continues with Transformers shows even today.
Really dig how the VHS filter you put over the video is not only non-intrusive but also fits well aesthetically for the film. Lets hope it will be able to survive this time.
I am so glad you guys re-uploaded this reaction. It is hands down my favorite of your guys' videos so far & I honestly would hope I can go back & watch this anytime I need it, whether i'm feeling down or just looking to feel that twinge of nostalgia in my heart for years to come... Till all are one!!
I thought i was going nuts cause I could have sworn they already uploaded this but it turned out to be a reupload lol^^ I’m really happy they did that since it’s really good
17:35 the movie takes place directly in between season 2 and 3 of generation one Transformers, and was used as a means to kill off the previous toy line and introduce the new season 3 characters
This RAZZLE reaction is just pure gold. I watched this film for the very first time earlier this year with my bestie and it’s by far one of the coolest things ever. The smooth animation, fantastic soundtrack, exceptional voice acting (Orson Welles included, for his understated yet chilling final performance as Unicron), and the film’s willingness to go into dark places all make it something that gives the live action features a run for their money. I honestly wish we’d get more Transformers films like this, as it shows that an animated film can be both for kids and adults when it straddles the line of light and dark so well. ☺️
Yeah, unfortunately the reason mattel had them kill off/transform a bunch of characters was because they wanted to introduce a new transformers toy line, and the shock actually traumatized a lot of kids a bit, that's why they eventually brought back Optimus himself, and why we've never gotten a kids cartoon series movie spinoff as dark as mature this since. Like imagine an Adventure Time movie where Finn straight up dies and the Ice King becomes a Fire King lol.
This probably my favorite movie of all time my dad had it recorded on a VHS and i watched it all the time when i was younger so much so that i started wearing out the tape.
