"Arise Rodimus Prime" never fails to bring tears to my eye. After Optimus' death so early in the movie, it reinforced the idea that he might return, even if its just in spirit form a la Obi-Wan, and we got much more than that in Season 3.
It also is a callback to his final words. "One day, an Autobot shall rise from our ranks and use the power of the Matrix to light our darkest hour. Until that day, till All are One." With 'Till All are One' being Farewell, Prime basically said he would return when the Matrix was used.

20:08 That was a HUGE moment for us kids in the 80's. Big Poppa Prime was like another father for us. Giving us life lessons in how to be a strong person by helping others, especially those weaker than us. To stand up to bullies, and in other ways on how to be good. So it hit hard when they killed him off.
Shia did play Sam "Spike" Witwicky, this is that character. He and his dad Sparkplug were the human sidekicks in the original series, in this it's 20 years later and Spike's a grown man with his own son.
Remember that the main premise behind the G1 Transformers series was to sell toys. The movie is essentially season 2.5 of the series. The reason so many characters were killed off/reformatted was to get rid of the 1984 and 85 characters in order to promote the 1986 toy line. When Hasbro decided to kill off Optimus, there was a MASSIVE backlash from fans. People were walking out of the theaters because kids were so upset by it and there were one kid who actually locked himself in his room for 2 weeks because of it. Back then, characters on cartoon shows didn't die so this was a huge blow. I saw the movie in theaters and I have no memory of it after Prime's death. To this day I still tear up even hearing the music that plays during his death scene.
Orson Welles used his literal dying breaths for this role, and he hated it😂He died a week after finishing recording, and in the hospital told his publicist “You know what I did today, played a toy, then I am destroyed by other toys”
24:02 Technically, not wrong, the reason some of the characters, including Optimus from seasons 1-2 were killed in the 86' movie was to make marketing productions for the new characters that were introduced in the movie.
22:28 Orson Welles was barely able to do the voice. This was his last role, he was on death's door. They had to do some digital manipulation to enhance his voice, you could barely understand him. I remember when I was a kid I could barely understand *anything* Unicron was saying.
This movie was animated by a lot of legends in the Japanese animation and manga industry. The most notable being Masami Obari, who is considered a legend among legend in the super robot genre to this day. His style of drawing mechs is instantly recognizable, which even led to the creation of the "Obari-Pose", a certain way a mecha holds a sword. and Obari is very deply tied to Transformers overall, he was the one who animated Optimus Primes very first transformation in the OG 1984 series, too.
God knows how many times I watched this back in the day. Admittedly the first act is where it hits hardest, but it still can't be stressed enough how huge this film was for the fans.
It cannot be overstated how thoroughly and completely Hasbro failed to understand the level of attachment the kids of the 1980s had to the original set of characters in the show, which is why they insisted on using the movie to kill them all off to make room for their newest lineup of toys. Children were having emotional breakdowns in the theaters, and the show didn’t last past its next season.
1:05:00 For the entire third season of the show, Rodimus was always doubting himself and brooding in Optimus's shadow. Sometimes literally, under a statue. (This movie is a bridge between the second and third season of the cartoon.) Also if you really liked the detailed animation of this movie, with all the detailed crenellation of the mechanical parts that appear for only 1/12 of a second, you can thank Toei, legendary among anime for making so many series including Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Digimon, and One Piece. This is what astounding feats they can produce when given a high budget. The Transformers cartoons though, are an example of what they do with a fraction of that budget. Color mistakes, wrong characters talking, foreground and background layers getting mixed up, the same character randomly standing next to a duplicate of themselves, etc. Good enough for a 20 minute toy commercial for little kids.
I love Ratbat! Don't know why Soundwave didn't deploy Buzzsaw and Laserbeak here but man, Ratbat and Frenzy were new to me when I first saw this and they blew me away (I know Frenzy appeared earlier but I'd not seen him before).
So Spike and Daniel are pretty much the only humans in this film. Spike had a dad in the orginal cartoon named Sparkplug. Know what their family name was? Witwicky. Spike is SAM FROM THE LIVE ACTION MOVIES! His full name is Samuel "Spike" Witwicky!
In the live-action film continuity, Spike and Sam are two different characters. Spike is named Butch “Buster” Witwicky in the live-action film continuity and Spike is only his codename, he was a Navy SEAL and later joined NEST, and he is the cousin of Sam Witwicky. The live-action film continuity version of Spike worked with the autobot Backfire. But you are right about the G1 version of Spike being the counterpart of Sam Witwicky, with both of them befriending Bumblebee as teenagers, but Spike’s real name can vary. Spike’s real name is Steven in the 2005 IDW continuity and that's the only one I know of.
Spike is also Sam Witwicky who they base Shia LeBeouf's character from the live action films off of. Him and his father was in the original Transformers 1980s cartoon series.
CANON: Daniel in the cartoon eventually gets hurt, can no longer walk, and needs constant life support. Arcee agrees to let Daniel live in her head from there, and when Arcee turns into a car, Danial as her head can transform into a robot. With Danile living in her head it made her an even better fighter so other Autobots did the same. The Decepticons now get completely over taken in combat decide to copy the Autobots in order to fight back. This was the birth of the Head Masters. Some of the decepticons didn't like the idea of a humanoid living in their head so offered them the ability to live in their weapons giving rise to the Target Masters.
37:35 those are the Quintessons. Each face represents something. War, Death, Wisdom and justice. They are the creators of the transformers and will later attempt to take over cybertron.
The outcry over the death of optimus prime was so overwhelming that Hasbro brought him back in the cartoon series. The episodes were called the return of optimus prime parts one and two.

Bros! For once, I appreciate a group doing a reaction to one of the Greatest Movies of the 80s!!! And... making it a much longer reaction instead of only 30 min. Thank you for that!!! I'm almost 50 years old and I remember the day I saw this movie at 11 years old on opening weekend! One thing to remember. This was a movie giving us kids a huge follow up to a TV series we were all glued to every week, and we got the toys, the clothes, the bed sheets, lunch boxes, etc. etc... (My first transformer was Starscream). Just bought a Transformers the Movie T for my Fat A$$ to wear now!!! LOL!!!! Now a days, looking back, the cartoon is rough, but us 80s kids, it was imagination GOLD! You want more Prime, watch the TV series! And yes, with Unicron orbiting, the TV series kept going with a new generation of transformers. This movie took 2 years to create as they would advertise that during the TV spots. Fun fact... Blur was voiced by the guy who did the micro-machines toys! He was all over TV because of his voice! You're soo right about the sound track. I was in college and a buddy of mine had the sound track on CD and I recorded it onto casset so I can listen to it during my drawing studios. The full sound track still is Bomb! Up to now, I've probably watched it over 100s of times since it came out still quoting it line for line........just because!!! LOL!!! Thank the Lord! I grew up in the 80s!!! ❤
There is a sequel to this film. It's called "Five Faces of Darkness". It consists of the first five episodes of season 3. It answers a lot of stuff, including the repeated (innocent) call from the movie. There's a reason why the Quintesson judge kept saying, "Innocent."
The thing that first time watchers of this movie who haven't watched the original series miss is the impact of all the character deaths . Nearly all of the gen 1 characters killed off here were reoccurring characters on the main show. Characters like Prowl, Ironhide, Brawn, wheel Jack, and Ratchet. These were all main players in the series.
I was 15 years old when this came out. I watched it with my siblings and we loved it! And we are by no means metal heads, but we loved the soundtrack! To this day, we still go off when we hear, "You've got the touch...!" ❤
sounds like orson welles.....it IS orson welles the last film he did just before he died, theres also spock in this and one of the pythons from monty python
The soundtrack is *the ultimate* sound of the 80s, period! Although it flopped so badly in theaters, the VHS release the following year turned it into a cult classic.

Technically, not wrong, the reason some of the characters, including Optimus from seasons 1-2 were killed in the 86' movie was to make marketing productions for the new characters that were introduced in the movie.
15:07 And the best thing? Transformers: The Movie and Predator BOTH had Peter Cullen voicing a main character.
I still can't believe how gorgeous the animation looks even today.
all hand draw and they even cut out some of the glowing parts to use color film light to make them glow right that.
It's been remastered a decent amount of times already
Starscream: "Who disrupts my CORONATION??!!"
Galvatron: "Coronation, Starscream? This is bad comedy!"
"Megatron, is that you???"
@@JeremiahEcks777 Galvatron: "Here's a hint!"
Robert Stack's distinguished career boiled down to "he was in the Beavis and Butthead movie".
Talk about an Unsolved Mystery....
@@IggyStardust1967The Transformers motivated Stack to narrate Unsolved Mysteries, he also did The Untouchables and Airplane
God knows how many times I watched this back in the day. Admittedly the first act is where it hits hardest, but it still can't be stressed enough how huge this film was for the fans.
i think most fan at the time once it came out on VHS. took there copy and place it behind glass with a R.I.P pic of Prime.
There is a band called Cybertronic Spree. They cover songs from the soundtrack in full transformers costumes and are pretty good.
They did a very good cover of Instruments of Destruction.
1:05:00 For the entire third season of the show, Rodimus was always doubting himself and brooding in Optimus's shadow. Sometimes literally, under a statue.
(This movie is a bridge between the second and third season of the cartoon.)
Also if you really liked the detailed animation of this movie, with all the detailed crenellation of the mechanical parts that appear for only 1/12 of a second, you can thank Toei, legendary among anime for making so many series including Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Digimon, and One Piece.
You mentioned Predator around the 15 minute mark.... Fun fact: Peter Cullen voiced the Predators "purring" and snarls.
“Rumble. Frenzy. Ravage. Ratbat. Eject! Operation: Interference.”
I love Ratbat!
Don't know why Soundwave didn't deploy Buzzsaw and Laserbeak here but man, Ratbat and Frenzy were new to me when I first saw this and they blew me away (I know Frenzy appeared earlier but I'd not seen him before).
If I remember right, Kupp’s name is basically short for pickup, because he’s a Cybertronian pickup truck. Pic(Kup)p
I'm a prime 80's kid. watched all those cartoons. Saw this movie in theaters and cried when Optimus died.
Same here brother
So Spike and Daniel are pretty much the only humans in this film. Spike had a dad in the orginal cartoon named Sparkplug.
Know what their family name was?
Witwicky.
Spike is SAM FROM THE LIVE ACTION MOVIES!
His full name is Samuel "Spike" Witwicky!
Let's not forget Spike's wife Carly
Listens to Peter Cullen as Ironhide, hears Optimus speak right after "I know who that is" lol
So excited to see Andrew and Aaron react to this movie! This movie is pretty cool and a classic! 👍
Robert Stack: "We still have no fucking clue where this guy is"
Scenario One: He’s hanging by his neck in his fucking closet
@@johnnytransam5894 haha!
Clearly he can't deal with that right now.
The outcry over the death of optimus prime was so overwhelming that Hasbro brought him back in the cartoon series. The episodes were called the return of optimus prime parts one and two.

The best Transformers movie you'll ever see. That's coming from an 80s kid.
yep we 80's kids knows what is a real good movie back then. the new movies they are making can not hold a candle to this with out it going out every time.

@@davidthirugnanakumar7888 transformers prime was made to be what happen or so on the side of the LA movies. plus the one that came after prime is a what happen after prime.
Daniel has literally been around the Autobots all his life.
10:50 Shia LeBeuf’s character IS the father in this movie. Spike’s full name is Sam “Spike” Witwicky.
There is a sequel to this film. It's called "Five Faces of Darkness". It consists of the first five episodes of season 3. It answers a lot of stuff, including the repeated (innocent) call from the movie. There's a reason why the Quintesson judge kept saying, "Innocent."
Imagine seeing this as a 10 year old kid. This introduced many of our young minds to the concept of death
‘Get that little kid outa here!” 😂😂
I love this channel thank you guys for always having fun. Give all the energy I appreciate everything you guys do.
The soundtrack in this film are all bangers esp. the song hunger, you want to headbang real hard during that scene.
Man keeps asking why kup isn't a cup i love it if anyone else is wondering hes a Pick up truck

I think he resembles a Tesla Cybertruck- or the other way 'round
I searched for this comment. Now I don’t have to say it…😂👏🏽
The thing that first time watchers of this movie who haven't watched the original series miss is the impact of all the character deaths . Nearly all of the gen 1 characters killed off here were reoccurring characters on the main show. Characters like Prowl, Ironhide, Brawn, wheel Jack, and Ratchet. These were all main players in the series.
Went to see this in the theatre on my 10th birthday... Nothing like childhood trauma.
"He literally disintegrated."
Ironically he'll also be the first one to cone back from the dead too.
(Not counting Magnus though)
Scatman Crothers was the voice of Jazz, he ahd a very distinctive voice and was perfect for the role.
I was 4 in 1986 when my folks took me to see Transformers the Movie, death of Optimus was a dark time. Also Skywarp became Cyclonus
1st movie I ever cried at in my life. As a kid I had no idea I was gonna see Optimus Prime die.
Leave the kid behind? It was the 80’s; we literally thought it was normal.
The subliminal message from this movie was "buy all the toys"...and we did!
And that Holy Shit line was a BIG deal back in the day.
"Hey, kids! All your toys are dead! Buy these new ones!"
As Jobby the Hong described him, "the Death Star with a digestive tract". To Cybertronians, no less than the Devil himself.
I found it hilarious you kept referring to the Junkions as "Australian Transformers" when Wreck Gar, their leader is voiced by Eric Idle, a brit.
I still sneer "Such heroic nonsense..." to this day!
The voice of "Blurr" is the guy from the Micro Machines toy commercials.
The best way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Transformers
I was 15 years old when this came out. I watched it with my siblings and we loved it! And we are by no means metal heads, but we loved the soundtrack! To this day, we still go off when we hear, "You've got the touch...!" ❤
Watching them seeing Optimus die in real time was *chefs kiss*
I needed this so much today. Thank you gentlemen.
Hasbto: We're making a commercial, er, a movie. We have to clear out the season 2 toys to sell the new ones.
Even Prime?
Uh, for a while.
sounds like orson welles.....it IS orson welles the last film he did just before he died, theres also spock in this and one of the pythons from monty python
Also Australian really there not
Optimus Dying was So Sad!
This is the ONLY Transformer movie I recognize.
Oh, Bumblebee is decent.
18:04, Did you not see the gun Megatron was reaching for? It’s at 17:24, either way Optimus was getting shot and dying
Back in the 80s John Mochitta was literally the world's fastest talker & the spokesman for Micro Machines
As an Australian, I absolutely love when Americans can’t distinguish our accents from an obvious British accent
mite need to send more tv to that planet in order to get the right way to talk or have the australian accent.
I would recognize that voice anywhere it’s Eric Idol. They literally posted his name in the intro credits.
15:56 is the part everyone is here for
“One shall stand. One shall fall.”
The soundtrack is *the ultimate* sound of the 80s, period! Although it flopped so badly in theaters, the VHS release the following year turned it into a cult classic.
and it mite be a year or that same year for the CD to come out with the full music.
Ironhide wasn't begging for his life...he still wanted a piece of Megatron.
Oh, and *I STILL BLAME HOT ROD!*
My all time favorite transformers movie and everyone else as well
