प्लेगपासून धडा शिकत ब्रिटिशांनी केलं मुंबईचं नियोजन |गोष्ट मुंबईची: भाग १८

प्लेगनं मुंबईची जी वाताहत केली त्यापासून ब्रिटिश सरकारनं धडा घेतला की शहरनियोजनाच्या अभावी साथीचे रोग पसरतात त्यामुळे नियोजनाची गरज आहे. त्यामुळे बाँबे सिटी इम्प्रूवमेंट ट्रस्ट किंवा बीआयटीची १८९८मध्ये स्थापना करण्यात आली. मग रस्ते, मलनि:सारण, रहिवासी वसाहती अशा विविध प्रकारे शहराचं नियोजन करण्यात आलं.
गिरगाव, डोंगरी, मांडवी, पायधुनी हा आधीचा भाग नियोजित नव्हता परंतु बीआयटीमुळे त्यापुढील म्हणजे गावदेवी, चौपाटी, माटुंगा, दादर आदी भागांमध्ये रस्ते, उद्याने आदींचं नियोजन शक्य झालं.
शहरात ताजी हवा यावी यासाठी पूर्व पश्चिम रस्ते बांधण्यात आले. प्रिन्सेस स्ट्रीट, सँडहर्स्ट रोड, ग्रांट रोड ही अशा काही रस्त्यांची उदाहरणं आहेत जे समुद्राकडून ताजी हवा शहरात खेळावी म्हणून पूर्व पश्चिम बांधले गेले.
आठवड्याला दोन हजारांचा बळी घेणाऱ्या प्लेगपासून प्रशासन धडा कसा शिकलं आणि त्यांनी शहर नियोजन कसं केलं सांगतायत... खाकी टूर्सचे भरत गोठोसकर...

Now I am living in Thane city.
Even in Thane there are very old buildings. They have British times wooden doors. There is one photo studio at Jambhli naka .
I asked the owner,about the doors.
He told me, we are born in this place,
(Now they have become old.)
They renovated the house but ,old doors are not removed.
Kindly visit that place.

Teva ghare choti hoti .Ti tevachi garaj hoti ,please understand real meaning of plannning , there was no need of having 2 roads in 90 degrees to each others . As per the existing topography villagers built thier houses .
