शंभर वर्षांपूर्वी मराठी समाजातल्या उच्चभ्रू लोकांचे गांवदेवी परीसरात बंगले होते. जवळपास सव्वाशे वर्षांपूर्वी बांधलेल्या अनेक बंगल्यांपैकी अवघे दोनच बंगले आता शिल्लक असून इतर बंगल्यांच्या जागी आता टॉवर उभे राहिले आहेत. त्यावेळी या बंगल्यांच्या सभोवती नारळीच्या बागा होत्या आणि बंगल्याच्या पहिल्या मजल्यावरील दिवाणखान्यातून समुद्राचं दर्शन होत असे. म्हणजे सी व्ह्यू असे बंगले होते. अजूनही चांगल्या स्थितीत म्हणजे जसाचा तसा सांभाळलेला एक बंगला आहे राऊत कुटुंबियांचा व आजही हा बंगला आपली शान राखून आहे. ज्यावेळी विधवा विवाह होत नव्हते त्यावेळी एका विधवेशी विवाह केला व तिची मुलगीही दत्तक घेतली असा पुरोगामी विचार आचरणातून समाजात रुजवणारे मलबार हिलला राहणारे डॉ सखाराम अर्जुन यांच्या कुटुंबाचाच म्हणजे राऊत फॅमिलीचा हा गांवदेवीतला बंगला...
