In answer to those who have recently asked.... Not including the water well, septic and land, the actual house ready to move in was $17,000. That included all wiring, plumbing, cabinets, flooring and all.
This is the best tiny home I have ever seen. Most of the homes on here are only in my point of view are nothing but childrens playhouses that adults are calling tiny homes. Yours is actually liveable. I can't get into the ones that are primitive with no water, toilets, showers, or compost toilets are the worst!!!! Yours is really nice!!!!
Those have their place i think for people willing to sacrifice comfort for a home and a place they can save on utilitys and such untill they can afford bigger and better things ,this is the ultimate tiny home but its just not the only choice for a tiny home ,i can see why the smaller ones do not fit alot of peoples lifes but im sure its got a place in manys hearts
I went to your website....I am curious.....aren't you required to build on concrete foundations in your area? We are in British Columbia, and I haven't seen a new home built without a foundation.
sharon nelson Well, there is a foundation. The treated posts are sent on concrete in the holes. I am really glad we are still free here. lol....well somewhat anyway.
This is the safest way to ensure you'll live to grow very old. Better than any healthy diets and medicines. A small home, a shower in a size for only to shower, a kitchen back-wall wall to only cooking, a living room / socializing/family room which fills up most of the house, a cozy place for the little ones, lots of land and outside chores, activities, useful things, pets to have to take on exercising walks, a house that requires a bit of paint, cut wood, and plenty of distance to outside facilities which is used on a everyday basis. Clean air and the necessity to go out and breath it and be active, a home which inspires more hearty stews full of roots, potatoes, meat from grassing and moving animals, than chocolate and french fries.
This is the stage of life I'm in as well. I downsized to a 1550 sq ft townhouse, but would love a little cottage on a piece of land without neighbors sharing walls with me. I love the design of your place - laundry, a porch, one level with a loft for the grandkids.....perfect !
This is really a great video. I'm a single mom of a 17 year old girl who will be graduating high school in a few months. I purchased a small, older home (built in 1947) a few years ago and it's only 1230 sq ft. I love it because it's so cozy and it had been totally remodeled but yet still contained some character but yet I've always dreamt of owning something bigger and newer. But as I look at your place it makes me rethink the wanting too move. If there are two of you living in a little over 540 sq ft there's no reason I need to go bigger. Thanks for sharing your space with us.
CoCo Michele In this world were living and the cost of everything constantly rising I see these 'smaller' houses as a way of being able to live freer. I for one am so sick of worrying over everything needing to be replaced, and always big bucks. Smaller makes cent$ in my opinion.
+Maria McLaughlin I feel the same way. When we're finally able to build, I want a small home. One that we can pay for outright, buy a piece of land to put it on, and to not be paying off a mortgage until retirement. I want to work toward that whole "debt free" life. I hear it's great and I'd like to try it out for size.
Update I bought my house!!! It’s 676 ft.² It’s perfect for my son and I. It’s very quiet here too. If I can do it anybody can do it. Just have to put your mind to it. God bless, stay safe. Love you all very much!!! 🙏🏻❤️🏡🐳💕🐾😊
Very inspiring! NOT just the cottage itself but the fact that this vid gives such a wholesome and positive vibe, that this is the first time in eons that I have read comments that were not riddled with snarky, negative remarks. It can be such 'work' to even relax and check out a video on youtube sometimes.... NOT today! Thanks
What a sweet and cozy space. A very informative and well done video. IMHO a small, well laid out cottage such as this makes a lot more sense than some of those "Tiny Houses".. for retirement.
I just wanted to add... about the importance of a bedroom on the ground floor. I've had back surgery, and other health issues and if I had had to climb a loft ladder to get to my bed, ... as in so many of those truly "Tiny" homes ... I would not have been able to come home. Being 'laid up' is not just for oldsters.. I was 16 the first time and early 30's the second. Never take your health for granted.
My hubby and I being baby boomers, would absolutely want a bedroom on the main floor. I notice that many house plans, now do that, I think in preparation for the Baby Boomer Generation, since there is a lot of us!...lol I love this little cottage in the woods. Just my style. I would have to have at least this much square footage, or even up to 850 sq ft. as I have hobbies I like to do.
I have been watching tiny house videos for about an hour now and I have noticed that all of these people seem very happy. Im happpy for you as well. Nice home.
How very lovely! Your interior colors and design are very light and bright. I was going through some other small homes where the unremitting wood put me off; not saying they were bad, just my own perception. It might be small, but I would still consider it a castle on the hill. It is so welcoming! Thank you for sharing it!
I love your home! It is everything that one would need in a home. I would have loved to seen the loft area though. But love that you made space for the grands to come and stay too. Beautiful home!!
You know we are so instilled with fear in our lives that we have to live a certain way with a big house with cars and all the debt that goes with it. But your way is the best way to live cause you may not have a lot but you are so much more free from worry and stress. I think that if we lived more like you people would have a lot more time for each other! Chris From Ireland
I'm not sure that fear is correct. Coveting of things I think is the main engine. People want stuff for themselves and their children. Television or more generally modern society tells us what to value, a nice house, cars, expensive electronics, upscale college education etc. Minimalism as a lifestyle is catching on, though American minimalism still seems to be somewhat stuff oriented.
To me, this is not about living with less, but living with more. I love your cottage here. It's so beautifully decorated and cozy. I dream of living in a smaller home like this. I'm trying to convince my husband that our suburban tract house is nothing but time consuming upkeep and needless expense. He's starting to warm to the idea of a cottage like this. Hopefully one day, we'll be able to live like this. :)
This is one nicely done space. It's elegant. Unlike many posted small homes video here on TH-cam that look hippy-ish. Not that there is anything wrong with that aesthetic. It is refreshing to see the style you have incorporated with your home.
I've watched dozens of Tiny House/cottage tour videos and your home is my very favorite! I wouldn't change a thing. I will be checking out your blog soon. Best wishes!
This is really nice. I think you can live quite comfortably in a house this size and you aren't being deprived. Beautifully, simply, furnished and very inviting.
I just discovered your you tube video and also visited your blog. I'm so impressed!! As a single female getting ready to retire soon, this would be impossible for me to accomplish alone and I would have to rely on the expertise of others. The cost that you've given here for your home is wonderful. That is, of course, because you did all, or most all, of the work yourself. Your home is lovely and I know you and your wife are so pleased with what you've accomplished. I'm inspired and would love to duplicate your example, but I'm having trouble finding resources within my price range. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Thank you for sharing this great process!
This house is only beautiful, it truly is. Easy to heat, easy to keep clean, easy to maintain. We have a small house too, its 920 sq ft, (in around that) recently added a sun room to it 14ft x 16 ft so that would add to the over all size of the house. I have no utility room either....no big deal. We built what we could afford a the time. 3 x bed, 1 bathroom, .....3 kids. It does us fine. We bought over a half acre to build it on, so plenty of room for the kids to go wild. Love the country side! Hi from Ireland!
I love the serenity of the lifestyle you and your wife have chosen. Your home is beautiful and so thoughtfully laid out. Thank you for sharing it with us. It was a pleasure visiting you today!
I have seen so many videos showing tiny houses, and I come back to yours all the time. It's so different to me because it just seems so darn cozy and laid out so well. I could live there easily, all snuggled with my pup!
I too am getting ready to live my new life with my furry kids now that the human kids are done with their schooling and starting their own lives. I was thinking a 1300 sq. ft yurt, but now looking at your cottage I'm getting second thoughts. thanks for sharing your place. It's adorable
I keep coming back to this video again and again...I love the little piece of heaven you've carved out for yourselves. My wife and I built our own house too when we were younger...1120 sq ft ranch that's just the right sized for us. When we first built it we were out in the country, now 20 years later we're surrounded by homes. The old guy at the town dump used to tease us every time a new house would go up by us..."Getting closed in! Time to move!" He's been gone for many years now and is still missed, but he was right of course. The problem is that all of our neighbors are so nice that even though we'd like to be out in the country it's hard to want to move. Enjoy the good life and thanks for sharing.
One of the best I've seen. Love the cream colored walls and the kitchen is extremely nice especially the cut out over the widow. Detail detail detail makes all the difference.
Super nice!!! Do you have plans for a garage?? The house is a nice size for two but if you don't put things in there place right after use it would tend to drive me nuts...thx for sharing!!
We built a garage the following summer after this video. I will be uploading an updated video within days. Check back for the new one with all of the things we have added to our little homestead!
Absolutely beautiful!!! It shows you what you can do with modify and simplifying. But the decor and how you used the space is one of the prettiest I've seen. I hope you enjoy your retirement and can do the things you want to do.
This is the prettiest smaller home I have ever seen...I love it... although I just realized after re-watching your video for the umpteenth time...that I didn't see a table or chairs....where do you eat..?
I love your little cottage! You both are truly blessed to have such a beautiful and comfortable place to call home. Pugs are so sweet and quiet. Love, love it!!!!
Love this video and admire the work you and your wife have done. Thank you also for your generosity is sharing your home. Blessings to you and your family.
Love your cottage. I can tell a lot of thought and planning went into everything. Just curious, are you in WV? Talking about red clay mud and building on a reclaimed strip mine made me wonder.
+deepbeeps I love your house! Your accent sounds like maybe MI, which is where I originally hail from. Looking at a tiny house for myself as I am downsizing now that kids are grown and hubby died in 2000. IF I ever get married again, he'd have to want this lifestyle, eh? LOL ;D
Putting the dog crates in the space under the bed side tables is a fantastic idea. They are not even noticeable. I love the whole lay out of your home.
Danny .. do that. Really, LIVE that dream. I'm finally retired and have the luxury of free time (finally!!), but during my youth and working years, I pretended I was retired on weekends and would go camping by myself out in the middle of nowhere (and I wasn't even 'skairt' ... now that's youth for you). Don't wait for 'someday' to follow that dream ... do it now, even if only temporarily. :)
Linda Casey What a great thought doing that in your youth. I'll be 62 in October and will be semiretired. 10 years ago I pitched a tent in our backyard and slept outside for a season while my husband slept in bed. You're giving me the courage to do it again. Husband no longer around, live in a condo, in good health. Do what your heart tells you to do and stop the cookie cutter life!! Yeah!!
***** Well, I'm a single, 65+ year old, fully retired on a very small pension old hippy who never lost my courage and in fact just returned from a 2 week drive through Norway in a mini-camper. I loved every minute of it. Met some great like-minded folks along the way. I was considering moving to France, but opted for a position of unpaid part-time house/pet sitter instead which allows me a free vacation a couple of times a year. Yes, do pitch a tent in your back yard or go out for a weekend drive and spend the night at a campground for two just to get the feel of adventure in your bones. Nature is the best medicine for any body.
That is the best lay out I have seen in years,it could be easily add on to if a little more room was need. I like the simple cabinets made from flat common stock lumber! That house has the the loft which is nice bonus.
Oh I'm so happy I found this video again! this is my favorite tiny house and what I want to recreate for my own small house. I hope I can find some kind of blueprints.
We absolutely love it here! We were just talking last weekend that we need to do another video. We have added so much to our little homestead. We now have ducks, chickens, rabbits, honeybees, an orchard, raised bed gardens, a solar system that provides over half our electric for the house and shop etc. We hope to do another video in the next couple of weeks, so subscribe and stay tuned! :-)
Your tiny house living video is my favorite. A lot of other videos I see make everyone seem like to live tiny and downsize you have to go w/o water, comfort, style, etc... I love your home it is cozy, warm, uncluttered, etc I LOOOVE IT!
I love this cottage! Last child will be leaving the nest soon and I feel the pull of smaller, simpler living. I can't wait to do something like this. Beautiful home.
This house is absolutely adorable! What got my attention was the space and bedroom being downstairs. Thinking of retiring in a home that size. The price was another factor.
I've been looking at a lot of videos of tiny houses, and I have to say that your cottage is the best. It is so very cozy and your wife has such good taste in decorating it. I hope you two have many happy and relaxed years there!
What a charming wonderful little cottage ! I love it ! It looks like you furnished it with the things you love. It works wonderfully ! You and your wife & the boys have a beautiful home !
In answer to those who have recently asked.... Not including the water well, septic and land, the actual house ready to move in was $17,000. That included all wiring, plumbing, cabinets, flooring and all.
tried to email you but would not go through!are you still using the same email address? love your home! wonderful to see people living there dream!
+IyaEarthseeds Thanks for commenting about people spending lots a money on these tiny homes. Defeats the purpose.
Did you build the house by yourself? Also, where is it located? (state, city)
I need your house plans❤️
Please sell the floor plans on your website or TH-cam channel! This is truly a great design!
This is the best tiny home I have ever seen. Most of the homes on here are only in my point of view are nothing but childrens playhouses that adults are calling tiny homes. This is a small home, not an off-grid home. There is a difference.
I love your little cottage....I don't even know how many times I have watched this!!!!!! Very sweet!

WOW!!! That is so fantastic. Bravo for building something so complete and not cramped looking.
This is absolutely the cutest cottage out there. I could totally see myself living out my days in a place just like this. Very sweet!

i love your homestead! the bedside tables/dog crates are beautiful, not to mention genius! thanks!
I LOVE this house! It's so homey and comfy looking. You did an awesome job! Thanks for sharing this.
A beautiful house! It looks larger than 540 square feet. Great job.

I totally agree! I can't wait until I get mine just as cozy as theirs :)
I stay on Pinterest to get ideas on storage and decorating to make it cozy. Good luck!

Absolutely adorable cottage. Only thing more I would need is that loft to be a higher peak so I could do my crafty stuff up there. Thanks for sharing
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the comment.
I absolutely love this. Very, very nice. Ideal.
I love your home! It is everything that one would need in a home. I would have loved to seen the loft area though. But love that you made space for the grands to come and stay too. Beautiful home!!

Very true.
Chris Coppola I know you said this 3 years ago, but it's even more true today.
This house exemplifies the owner's sense of contentment , and with the Christmas decorations it is filled with joy and peace. Absolutely graceful !
Chris , I like it but I like a home all one floor. To
little for four dissable
adults.
Its small cottage so cute and I love it! It has a homey feel.
Gosh this is a cute house! I wouldn't change a thing if it were mine!
HOLY SMOKES I LOVE THAT COTTAGE I am very jealous that is such a beautiful place to live and injoy life !!
Your home looks like the perfect cozy retreat, just beautiful and so nicely decorated!
+Miss Italics I second that! Very nice decorating! :)
There's something hypnotic about your video with your voice, land, garden beds and the way you show us around the house. Thank you.
Great place !!! You did a beautiful job !!!
Awesome place.... Congrats on your move! I just downsized from a 4800 sq foot house to a 960 sq foot place. Best move Ive ever made!

I love this cottage...my husband and I are very interested in a house this size ...you did a beautiful job!
The way your bathroom is laid out, it wouldn't bother me a bit to have it next to the kitchen. I love what you've done!
This is one nicely done space. It's elegant. Unlike many posted small homes video here on TH-cam that look hippy-ish. Not that there is anything wrong with that aesthetic. It is refreshing to see the style you have incorporated with your home.
You have a beautiful home.I also love pugs.As the saying goes...good things come in small packages.
Aww... Sweet! Very adorable !!! Just perfect! Stay healthy and happy!!!
This is one of the nicest tiny cabins I have seen. The decorating is great. Would love to see an update of the yard! :)
Absolutely, beautiful! Such a darling cottage! Now, "this" I could go for - and live in, forever! Love it!
Beautiful little place..your little fellows are cute..its not too small.
I've watched dozens of Tiny House/cottage tour videos and your home is my very favorite! I wouldn't change a thing. I will be checking out your blog soon. Best wishes!
wow that is perfect. good job I would like to ass an update of all this 2 years on and any changes you made or things you added
This is really nice. I think you can live quite comfortably in a house this size and you aren't being deprived. Beautifully, simply, furnished and very inviting.

What a warm, lovely, functional home. Just goes to show that you CAN have it all for less than $25,000!!!
How has this video got dislikes these people are awesome. This is a nice simple life
totally impressed and inspired. confirmation that we don't need half of what we think we need.
Hello :) I send greetings from Chile :) I love so much your cute small house! Love love love :)
This house has such a homey(not sure if that's a word) feel to it! I love it! I'm especially impressed with the cute little kitchen.

I love your cottage. :)

Very nice! Thanks for posting! Excellent tour!
You've done a wonderful job with your cottage - it's beautiful. May you, your wife and 3 beautiful pugs have many happy, healthy years there!
Dog crate tables...brilliant!!

This is exactly my dream house! Love your wife's decor, shiplap and barn doors! Plenty of storage! It is divine!😊💖💖💖

I adore this home! Thank you for sharing!
This is the prettiest smaller home I have ever seen...I love it... although I just realized after re-watching your video for the umpteenth time...that I didn't see a table or chairs....where do you eat..?
KindaKrafty Watch again. At 9:11 you will see a little white "farmers table" with a drawer and 2 chairs just to the right of the bedroom door.
deepbeeps I LOVED that little cozy 'table for two'!
I love little houses...yours is by far my favorite. It looks so cozy and warm. I've watched this numerous times. I absolutely love your cottage.
I love your cottage! You should have Kirsten Dirksen come out to show case your lovely home.
It is absolutely beautiful, well taught out, they are almost self-sufficient,small is beautiful
Lovely! Well Done!
I love your little cottage! You both are truly blessed to have such a beautiful and comfortable place to call home. Pugs are so sweet and quiet. Love, love it!!!!
LOVE IT!
Love this video and admire the work you and your wife have done. Thank you also for your generosity is sharing your home. Blessings to you and your family.
I LOVE your home...just the right size...where are you located....are you still living there ??
+Paula Gremour Yep! Still here, and still loving it! Thanks for your comments.
Your home is beautiful as are your gardens!!! Your lifestyle is perfect!!! 3 pugs, awesome!! Thank you for sharing!
Love your cottage. I can tell a lot of thought and planning went into everything. Just curious, are you in WV? Talking about red clay mud and building on a reclaimed strip mine made me wonder.
Ron Smith Thanks for your comments. No, we are in N.E. Ohio
I love the whole lay out of your home.
i would rather live in a tent in the mountains then in a palace in the city.. one day i will get to live my dream
Danny ..
Awesome!
Oh I'm so happy I found this video again! this is my favorite tiny house and what I want to recreate for my own small house. I hope I can find some kind of blueprints.
Now that it is 2016 m how do you feel about the house now? How about an update?
We absolutely love it here! We were just talking last weekend that we need to do another video. We have added so much to our little homestead. We now have ducks, chickens, rabbits, honeybees, an orchard, raised bed gardens, a solar system that provides over half our electric for the house and shop etc. We hope to do another video in the next couple of weeks, so subscribe and stay tuned! :-)
I can definitely see why . Stay happy xoxoxo
Please, do an update! Love your vid.
Your tiny house living video is my favorite. A lot of other videos I see make everyone seem like to live tiny and downsize you have to go w/o water, comfort, style, etc... I love your home it is cozy, warm, uncluttered, etc I LOOOVE IT!
I'm in my early 20s and already feel like staying in a simple establishment as yours... It's a well-designed cottage ♡
I love this cottage! Last child will be leaving the nest soon and I feel the pull of smaller, simpler living. I can't wait to do something like this. Beautiful home.
I love your home. I'm ready to downsize and live a more simple life. 😄
This house is absolutely adorable! What got my attention was the space and bedroom being downstairs.
Thinking of retiring in a home that size. The price was another factor.
Adorable, It is a lovely house and so organised. It would be a dream to have something like this.
I loved everything about this video. You, your wife, the house, the dogs, and when you called yourself daddy ❤️
I think your home is perfect! very nice use of space and beautifully appointed to be cozy and welcoming... congratulations!!!! :)
This is the kind of little cottage I could totally live in. A real dream come true. Congratulations!
I've been looking at a lot of videos of tiny houses, and I have to say that your cottage is the best. It is so very cozy and your wife has such good taste in decorating it. I hope you two have many happy and relaxed years there!
